The udon soup is amazing. I've worked in Japanese restaurants before- it's very legit. I hear that a lot of Japanese workers for one of the big auto plants come there. It's a small place. My sister's go-to place for sushi from Cincy, we order takeout and take the drive bringing everything back home. We ordered unagi/eel nigiri, two spicy tuna rolls, and a spider roll. The spicy tuna rolls were the best. It was my first time getting that roll and not having it be mushy, finely chopped tuna with spicy mayo holding it together. This roll was a strip of tuna with spicy mayo squirted down the line of it assembled like a subway sub. Cut into sushi-sized pieces, each bite was proportionate in fish-to-sauce ratio and felt incredibly fresh with the larger chunk instead of the usual paste-like filling. The only complaint I had about our order was the spider roll was incredibly salty. I didnt finish it because it was throwing off all the other goodness. I think it mightve been part of the batter potentially but wouldnt stop me from going back, maybe just not ordering that one. read more

This place is top tier! While it is unusual to have to have a reservation to dine in. After dining in, I totally love that they do that! By doing reservation only they're able to maintain a quiet and calm environment inside and are better able to concentrate on providing amazing service and producing delicious food! The curry was mouth watering! The ramen was so full of flavor! The sushi was so fresh, the cake was so perfect and light! Our server was so nice and dedicated to making our experience pleasant, she even boxed up my left overs for me and was constantly clearing our table off when we finished each course and making sure our cups were always full! Now let's talk about the best thing... the prices! We got miso soup, sushi, curry, ramen, and 2 pieces of cake- altogether it was around 45 dollars! La Hiro is one of the hidden gems in Florence! Authentic Japanese Cuisine, from Sushi and fresh appetizers (which are obvious they are hand made and not frozen) to the Teriyaki, Ramen, Curry even Grilled Salmon Cheek... they have there normal menu but they make a weekly special one with some great suprises, you just have to get it on time before they run out. They also have a great selection of sweets that can be found on there website or facebook and japanese whiskey and sake as well. The only reason it is not a 5 star is because one of the owners/waitress sometimes may come off a little bit rude, but i just think is her way of speaking... not on purpose. La Hiro is located right near the Sakura Japanese Grocery store over in Florence. It's quite a bit of a drive, but we stopped by when I came back to town from my flight into CVG. I assumed that this place specialized in sweets since it's in the name, and so I was determined to try something out. We came in around 2:30 PM and they still had the lunch menu available, so that was a relief since usually dinner is expensive, though I'm not super knowledgeable about their menu or the differences to say the least. Generally, their dishes aren't too terribly expensive. I ordered a Tonkatsu and the SO ordered sashimi. The tonkatsu was about the size of my palm, came with sauce and a mini salad. All of it came with miso and salad. The SO's sashimi came with 3 pieces of each fish and also came with miso and salad. Just the way that my dish was presented, you could tell there was something a little bit different. The owners take a lot of time 'designing' and plating their dishes. You could really see and taste the 'homemade' love with an inkling of elegance. While the portions aren't excessive, and the prices might not be completely on point (speaking specifically to non-main kind of entrees), you are eating a meal made with a lot of heart. This is really the first time I've experienced this. The whole place bleeds of heart and you can tell that it's a restaurant where the owners had dreamed of opening it, where the husband wants to serve fresh fish, and the wife wants to make delicious and beautiful desserts. I was bummed that they didn't have the green tea cake, and even though it was late by bakery standards, they had many cakes and sweets still available. It doesn't seem like all of them are on the menu, so you I'm assuming she's always experimenting with new techniques and flavors. I opted for a raw cheesecake with a jello top with cherry blossoms, or sakura, imbedded. The dessert was so delicate yet rich. It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't heavy at all. I could have eaten the entire slice by myself! Overall, the bill came out to be about 26$ for 2 people, filling me up quite well, though leaving him a bit on the half full side, and with tip bumped that up to $30. It's not any more expensive than other legit Japanese restaurants, though I wish it were closer! I'll definitely be coming back to try some more cakes :) read more

They have limited sit down experience we were given a table and had a few dishes, the food was mediocre for sushi. If anything the calamari was good. But I was very appalled at how many times our family was asked if we are vaccinated. I will not be back to support this business, telling my health history just to come and eat is no ones business. We are headed into some dangerous times if you have to disclose personal information to anyone. How rude would it be for me to ask her if shes been to the gynecologist recently, do you have warts, hepatitis..etc when handling our food? I mean come on now. read more

In Kentucky of all places? Turns out Toyota has had a long presence in the area and there's quite a few Japanese ex patriots in the area that have graced Kentucky with their excellent food. Unfortunately they were out of tonkatsu so went with a bento of tempura, sashimi, and seared white fish. Added the cucumber salad and if I closed my eyes, it was if I was back in Yokohama. This is our first time at La Hiro Sushi and Sweets. Some Yelpers revealed that this place is run by the former owners of Aoi and the reviews were rave enough or us to make the 20 minute drive to Florence, KY. It is in a strip mall right next to a UDF store. We got there on a Sunday evening at 745 pm. It is a small restaurant with an unassuming sign. It looks clean and smells clean. They weren't too busy with 3 tables occupied all with Japanese customers. I was thinking this must be a good sign. They have a simple "regular" menu and a sushi menu, although they allowed my son to order an entree that was not on the menu. For starters we had fried tofu, Japanese fried chicken, poke salad and gyoza. The fried tofu which was soft and sweet melted in your mouth, the poke salad had small dices of fresh salmon with sea weed was quite refreshing, and the fried chicken and gyoza were really delicious. In addition, my sons also had their own sushi and sashimi starters which were My wife had the sashimi bowl which she was delighted that it had a generous amount of fish, and more importantly it was really fresh and very good. I had a Bento dish which had crab cake, hamburger and slices of salmon and rice. Overall it was an enjoyable and good entree although I did not care much for the crab cake. After experiencing the gold standard of crab cakes in Cannon Beach, Oregon, with more crab than filling, La Hiro's crab cake was a let down. One of my sons had the Unagi Don, which was not on the menu, and loved his generous slab of unagi on a bowl of rice; and the other had tempura beef, which was gone in no time. We were full by the time we were done however lady owner informed us that all their desserts are made fresh on site and invited us to just check the display. Well we obliged and the rest is history. They looked so exquisite, delicious and irresistible so we ended up bringing a whole bunch of "samplers" to try at home. Slurp! We really had an enjoyable dinner at La Hiro Sushi and Sweets. Their food was fresh, delicious and meticulously prepared. We had a very positive experience thus will continue to support this Mom and Pop restaurant. We will be back for sure! read more

I wanted to rate this five stars due to the excellent service and outstanding sushi. The owners are incredibly friendly and were happy to make a dragon roll and an avocado roll for us, which were not on the menu. Unfortunately, the entrees and dessert left much to be desired. My chicken teriyaki was slightly undercooked and served with frozen French fries that had been reheated (completely unexpected) and some green beans, which were fine. The broth with my husband's ramen tasted like the broth generated by one of those packets that come from grocery store purchased ramen, but much more watered down. We also shared a piece of cake, which tasted slightly of freezer burn. We will return many times for the service and the sushi. read more

As most of the reviews mentioned... the food is good, fresh fish and good flavor. The menu is great... sushi/Japanese and Italian. Good if you like sushi and your other half doesn't. I came here for lunch, and while it was good, there are several other sushi places in Northern Kentucky that are good and much cheaper. I was mostly disappointed that they didn't have any lunch specials or combos like most of their competition. In short, I'm glad I tried it... never seen another place with such a diverse menu, but I can't say I'd be back for a $20 lunch (miso soup, one roll and one order of sashimi). read more

This place is known for the rudest waitress. Foods was okay, but the waitress seems to really hate kids and I heard complaints about her from all of my friends who visited there. Probably won't go there any more. One of my colleagues was regarded as a scammer, and another friend was impolitely treated when asking for a high chair, and she was kind of scolding my son holding a phone in table. I know that it is not a good habit to hold a phone in front of the dining table. But she should not look down us with disrespecting eyes and even should not care what we do. read more

Horrible service!! Rude rude waitress. She seemed super annoyed the minute we walked in with our two kids and our infant. My 6 year old said hello to her in Japanese like 5 times (he's been learning it in school) and she literally was too obsessed with the kids not using chopsticks to notice. Sushi was sub par. The Raman and chicken teriyaki was amazing but that was the only good thing. Nothing about this restaurant made me want to ever go back. New favorite Japanese restaurant in the area! Funny how we drive down to Kentucky to find authentic Japanese food... thank you, Toyota headquarters. SUSHI/ENTREES: First off, fish here is fresh! The salmon sashimi was perfect, almost melt-in-your-mouth perfect, and that's hard to come by when you're land-locked. A cut above your "half-off sushi" places in terms of authenticity and freshness. Some of the cooked entrees seemed more Americanized but looked delicious nonetheless. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his tempura soba (he was sweating a bit after downing it, which can only be taken as a sincere compliment). DESSERT: Boy oh boy did the sweets seal the deal. The surest way to this girl's heart is through matcha, and not only did they have matcha cake, but matcha jello topped with red bean cream, and green tea cookies! It almost felt like I was in Japan again or heaven. Some dessert items weren't on the menu, so it seems they're still experimenting. I was warned that the matcha jello was a bit bitter, but I thought the red bean added just the right amount of sweetness. I licked clean the whole cup, it was so refreshing. The matcha cake was light, reminding me of Asian-style cakes back home. Good, but I can't stop thinking about the jello. Restaurant is a fairly new mom & pop shop. Dining here almost feels like being taken care of in someone's home. What also impressed me was the beautiful and meticulous way they present the food. We asked for the matcha cake on display, and when they brought it to our table it came with a side smattering of chocolate and caramel sauce. The sushi platter was also very thoughtfully presented with sliced cucumbers and an avocado sauce that I almost missed while zeroing in on the sashimi. I drove 30 minutes to get here because I was excited to check out this Japanese bakery. After a trip to Japan last year I am sold for life on the quality of Japanese goods and I knew La Hiro would be no exception. It was a slow night and bakery selection was limited, but I tried the green tea cake (with red bean filling) and it was SUPER! Perfectly fluffy, flavorful, and the beautiful to look at as well. La Hiro appears to be primarily restaurant with a bakery case on the side, so I decided to order something off the menu. The lady (I believe the owner) suggested the tempura udon and it was a great choice. Tasty broth, delicious tempura shrimp, lots of udon noodles, and well packaged for my ride home. I would like to see more traditional Japanese bakery selections: tarts and red bean buns! I wish it was closer to Cincinnati so I could come here more often! read more

We know the owners and have been fans of their sushi for quite some time. They are genuinely nice people who put their heart and soul into this new place. Hiromi will greet you with a smile. The sushi is fresh and the desserts are wonderful. They will make custom orders rolls as well. My son loves this place and they do have high chairs if you have little ones. They do not have the typical hours you would anticipate for a sushi restaurant. They are open every days with no mid-day closing time. They don't have a website yet, but are on facebook. Formally AOI on Newport on the Levee. The menu is excellent. It also offers pasta dishes and bakery items perfect for afternoon tea gathering. We ordered the Chirashi at $27. The quality and quantity you get is worth the money. We also sampled one of their specials, Shrimp cream pasta. The spaghetti was cooked Al Dante, unlike many other Italian/pasta restaurants. My wife and I were in the area on vacation and happened to find this sushi shop, and wow was this the best surprise of our trip. We were greeted with very friendly service and had our choice of seating. Started with some very tasty hot green tea, served from a French press. We ordered 2 rolls each, which was more than enough, my wife also enjoyed a bowl of miso soup and said it was the best she had ever had! Our fresh sushi rolls were amazing!! My wife and I stopped by La Hiro for dinner on a recent Sunday after travel out of town. We were tired and wanted a quality dinner with minimal fuss. We found the answer at La Hiro. We started with the Miso soup and split a seaweed salad. Both were excellent. We also each a had an eel nigiri. Again, the eel was tasty and the nigiri well prepared. For dinner, I had the Beef Teriyaki and my wife had the spicy salmon roll. Again, both were very good. While the food is excellent, the atmosphere of the restaurant was also very nice. There was some pleasant jazz music playing in the background and the service was prompt, but not intrusive. I am definitely a fan of this restaurant and recommend it to you if you enjoy Japanese cuisine. read more

I came here with three adults, one with a gluten intolerance, and a child. The waitress was very sweet and accommodating and even brought us tamari. The adults got sushi and we all loved it. I got the vegetarian sushi which had avocado and cucumber, along with some of the best miso soup I've ever had. The child got chicken teriyaki and very much enjoyed it. I must say the presentation was beautiful. The one bad thing was the dessert: I brought my husband home a piece of green tea cake (we both love green tea ice cream) and it was just very weird to us. It had a fishy taste for some reason, as if there was nori on it or something. Neither of us wanted to eat it, which is disappointing. However, I'm still leaving 5 stars because it could very well just be that we don't like this type of cake. The Sashimi Road (Continued): .This was a fantastic find though a little bit odd in that sweets and Italian type food are intermixed with the traditional Japanese cuisine. It is a little hole in the wall located in a group of shops just like a mini strip mall. The waitress and chef were friendly and helpful. It appears that if the item is not fresh then they won't serve it, meaning that not all items may be available. The menu is extensive so with one or two items not available it really isn't a problem unless you have your heart set on a particular one. This can also be a good sign because everything is fresh and freshly prepared. The Sashimi was very good. Their octopus was not overly chewing like you find in a lot of restaurants which indicates they are using a fresh ingredient and a good process in cooking it. The mackerel was very fresh as white tuna (I forgot to inquire whether it was white tuna or escobar to see their response...you know the controversy). Now this was the first time I ever received the Salmon Roe in a small bowl as sashimi and I really enjoyed it. In a number of places when you say I want Salmon Roe sashimi they don't know how to prepare it. I have received the response of "you can't have Salmon Roe as sashimi", "I don't know how to make it, can you tell me", some roe on cucumber or a small portion just plobbed down on the plate. This salmon roe was great. A couple of other noteworthy comments were the sake and little touches. They have an excellent and reasonably priced selection of sake if this is your cup of tea (sake), and you can tell they are about food because they add little things to the items you order. Example is the typical cucumber salad that comes in a little bowl. Most places just give you sauce and cucumbers, but here there is garnish. My sister also commented that these were the best pot stickers she has had because they were not over cooked. Good Food Now the atmosphere is not the best and there isn't a lot of tables, so if you are going to take someone out for this then go elsewhere. But for the type of space it is, they have done a good job. Wow, where to begin? La Hiro is arguably the best sushi spot I've encountered. This small, mom n pop place is quaint and quiet, clean and tasteful. The two staff are a charming husband and wife duo; he architects the rolls while she graciously waits the tables. Their green salad w homemade ginger dressing is over the moon.
