We started with the chicken satay and crab Rangoon and shared the chicken with mixed vegetables and chicken lomein. The food came out quickly and everything was fresh and hot with excellent flavor. By far one of our favorite Thai restaurants. Food and service were excellent with great prices. The restaurant was busy take out and eat in during the week. We came to Mai Tai on a Saturday afternoon for lunch because we wanted something light. This is a great family owned business with a nice amount of tables and truly happy people serving the food they always had a smile on their face and seemed like they genuinely enjoy their work. This is just one of the reasons they have been in business for 19 years. I got the crab puffs that have a thinner shell than crab Rangoons and these were a lot of cream cheese I probably wouldn't get it again. However I really enjoyed their California roll and the volcano roll as well as the ginger salad that has a refreshing ginger taste. Had the Yum Woon Sen (glass noodle salad) and won ton soup. That salad is what I order if I've never been to the Thai restaurant before. It's my measurement to compare Thai restaurants from each other. The noodles were prepared well, i just wished there were more of it. Decent amount of other ingredients and the chili sauce was good. I was not impressed by the soup. I just wanted something hot on a cold day but this did not hit the spot at all. The standout thing was that the wrap on the pork wontons were too thick and gooey. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have a sashimi dinner option on their menu, but sashimi is what I wanted so I ordered a la carte. I ended up with six pieces of sashimi... not a huge dinner, but it was fresh, tender and melt-in-my mouth delicious. Yummy sounds were elicited. The miso soup was good. Mark's Basil Fried Rice was good, though I think he had better in Chicago. Getting here is a little bit of a drive, but I'd come back. Everyone was very nice and the food was quite good. read more

** Vegetarian Food Review ** My expectations have not been met. Veg Spring rolls - very average rolls with no flavor. The outer shell was crisp and hot, but that's about it. The sauce served with it was the sweet duck sauce that comes in a jar. Not a sauce made in store. Vegetarian Sushi - Again, very average, no flavor. Felt like I was eating rice rolled in Nori sheet Garlic Eggplant with tofu - This dish was interesting. The sauce was very flavorful and hot. The veggies were well cooked and had the flavor of the sauce. The tofu, however, was cold. It felt like someone forgot to toss the pre-fried tofu with veggies in the sauce. One and only one thing I really liked here was the fried rice that we requested for to be made without the eggs. The fried rice was hot, flavorful and fresh. Loved loved it. All in all, this place probably works for the locals, but I won't be going back. read more

Quick & tasty takeout! We've driven by Mai Thai several times and always wondered whether it was any good. I'm happy to report that we finally ordered dinner from here, and we'd definitely do so again. I placed the order through their website, which was a super easy interface to use. It said it would take 25 minutes to prepare - and sure enough, everything was ready to go when I arrived for pick-up 25 minutes later. The restaurant itself is a cute little hole in the wall - everything was clean, and everyone I spoke with was friendly. I went with the Red Thai Curry at a spice level 3, and I added extra broccoli. This was just the right amount of spice - enough to light up my taste buds, but not too much that the heat overwhelms the flavor. I would definitely order this again, but I probably wouldn't spend the extra $2 to add extra broccoli, since it already seemed to come with plenty of veggies. My fiancé ordered the Spicy Dinner Noodles with the Seafood mix, also at a spice level 3. He finished most of his meal, and said he liked the variety of seafood, but that there were some pieces that were hard to identify. The seafood mix was an extra $6. We also ordered the crab puff appetizer. These were nice and creamy, but the texture of the wrapper was a lot thinner than we're used to, and the sweet and sour sauce wasn't our favorite. For decent Thai takeout, this was a little pricey. We spent $50 including a 10% tip for two people. We'd definitely order from Mai Thai again, but probably as a treat rather than a regular to-go. read more

I always love visiting here! Last year I brought my son here for his first Thai food experience, now he can't have enough. We always enjoy the spring rolls, and crab puffs (which are top notch). The servings are huge, there is so much chicken on the Sesame Chicken we almost always have extra. I could live on the Mai Thai Chicken, so many veggies mixed with that world class chicken, topped with the sweet/spicy sauce. We always get quick friendly service who never forget you are there. I never have to wait on a refill, and generally the food is out in minutes. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy dining here, and I have passed it on to a younger generation to enjoy for years to come. read more

I loved this place. We came in on a Friday night and the place was busy. The space is huge and there are way too many food options within a mile, so seeing this busy was reassuring. Between the three of us, we got 2 vegetarian spring rolls, green curry with tofu, and Thai spicy stir fry with tofu. We were served the appetizers first. The spring rolls were pretty good. They came with a tangy sauce and a hot sauce, and both accompanied the rolls well. The Green curry was really, really good. The tofu and veggies were tender and tasted amazing. The Thai spicy stir fry was delicious as well. I couldn't stop munching it. The quantity is pretty generous and we had to pack both entrees a lil. The service was pretty good. I have passed Mai Thai several times when seeing family in Florence. When my father in law suggested it as an option on Thanksgiving Eve, so that we could eat fast and get to preparing T-giving dinner for the following day, I thought is was a fantastic idea. He picked up the food to bring home, and my pad Thai made it home still hot. I loved the flavor. It wasn't just spicy (though I did get it at a level 1 -- I'm a wimp.) And the dish was plentiful. I was here yesterday for a dinner with colleagues. The food was very flavorful. They offer your choice of heat level. 1star is mild 2 star is medium, 3 star is hot, 4 star is even hotter. I had spicy basil with chicken, 3 star. Honestly it was not very hot. Normally I start to sweat when I eat spicy Thai food. Sometimes I need a role of paper towels. Not this time. It really was not hot at all. It was very good though. The chicken satay was okay. Every place makes it different. This had just enough of the peanut sauce. My order is typically the beef pad see ew with extra sauce and their veggie roll (which has seaweed salad in it...it's awesome). We also love the panang curry and pad Thai, although sometimes the pad Thai can be lacking in sauce so it's hit or miss. I love ordering takeout from here at lunchtime! Easy online ordering process and food is always ready in 15-20 minutes, just long enough for me to make the drive over from work. The dining room always looks busy which is always a good sign! I've only tried the basil stir fry and the basil fried rice (my preference) but both are excellent. I will say I have ordered a spice level of 3 and the actual heat level has varied widely from barely spicy to more spice than I would prefer, so be mindful of the heat level you select when ordering if super spicy food isn't your thing.
