La Islena Market reminds me of the corner stores back home in East San Jose, California. It's not a very big place, but it has everything I need to whip up a nice meal. In addition to their assortment of meat, they also have snacks like bionocos, elote, and more. They save me when Im too lazy to make my own salsa and guacamole, but they also have all the fresh ingredients for when I feel like making it, as well as hard to find herbs. Amazing food freshly made chips beans and rice are wonderful. The best that I love is the ceviche you do have to chop it dice it down because the shrimp is very large and you can't put one on a ship. This is my go to spot for pre marinated carne asada and anything else I need from a Latino market. Their salsas, Mexican rice and beans are great too. They make and bag fresh tortilla chips daily. Just can't go wrong here and look forward to my next bbq. read more

Been going there for about 8 years now. 1st time ever spending 30 bucks for a few pieces of meat. Then I ask what happened with your prices being so high and the lady had the nerve to tell me. You can thank your President for that. First of all she didn't know me or my political views but since I was white in her eyes she thought it was ok to say that to me. Get the carne asada and grill at home, the chicken and beef fajitas plus some extra peppers and onions, chicken adobo legs are enormous (1/3 pound each, easily), fish ceviche is like $2/lb- can't beat that! Might want to take cash to shop here- my card wouldn't swipe at the register, my guy had to pay. Heads up, the Pollo Mobile truck is usually in the parking lot, grab groceries for later but grab dinner hot and ready from them. Came here based on good reviews but I was extremely disappointed , the place is not just small it's extra tiny even the isles are so small only one person can browse at a time and not to mention all the boxes of stuff that wasn't put away . Yes it is like a convenience stuff for emergency items that you might need but everything is so over priced a box of old Mexican candy (small) was $5 dollars and every other candy was so old and still expensive , bought me some candy (tamarind) rolls (serpentinas ) that I haven't had in years and since I found them I got some but when I tasted them you could tell they were expired old candy -nasty!!! The meats like fajitas and everything that has a marinade you can tell is been sitting there for a while more than it should . I guess the most decent stuff was the produce it was some how fresh but expensive as well . ok so let me start with how I began loving tacos. I went to a Superbowl party a few years ago and they had a taco truck vendor outside (was an awesome party btw). I wasn't hungry but after many many cocktails I eventually went outside to get a taco. They hooked me up...all I needed was some sour cream to go with. LORDY!!!! So after that I was on a hunt for good meat already seasoned w Mexican spices. We went to one market and ICK! Our friend told us about this place which happens to be right around the corner from where we live. You walk in....it's totally a run down convenience store, very VERY small aisles but I only go in for the meat selection and some Calidad tortillas. OMG! The pork, taco meat and boneless skinless chicken breasts are amazing and the prices you can not beat. They have a decent selection of meats, even an entire pig head I saw when I went in Saturday. It's not the cleanest, the cashiers aren't always the most outgoing but who cares?!?! Im in there to get my taco fix to take home and inhale! If youre looking for a Whole Foods/Sprouts/Albertsons, go elsewhere. Are there other stores probably better? I'm sure but for the prices of meat, you can't beat it! read more

This place is the best!!! I've been coming here for years and they never let me down when It comes the there perfect/delicious carne asada!! Every time I bbq it people ask me we're I bought it. The chicken the spare ribs and the chorizo all very good. There fresh sour cream and queso fresco all delicious and not to forget there salsas and guacamole that they make. Mom decided she wanted a Korean menu for Christmas dinner. The Mexican meat markets have a much better price for the Kalbi cut of meat (flanken cut ribs) ($5.99/lb vs Greenland's $9.99/lb). The meat service was prompt and somewhat friendly. The cashier was a much different story and I nearly left the meat on the counter and walked out. There were 4 staff members behind the counter - not a single one of them greeted us or took any sort of action to ring us up. It took us 5 times longer just to pay for our ONE item as it did to park, walk in, get the meat and walk to the counter. The best part is, they weren't even busy with other things, they were just talking! Half price or not, I'll find a different market to make my purchases at! read more

I babe mixed emotions on how I should rate this place. Let me start of by saying this place has excellent customer service. The employees are super friendly and the guy behind the counter was patient enough to explain the seasoning on the meats I bout 4 different kids and only are 2 of them. This is where zero stars start. The meat was more color than flavor if that makes any since. At first glance you'd think it would be packing flavor since it had all the seasoning on it but no let me tell you how disappointed I was when I went home and cooked it. No flavor at all on the meats. I ended up adding my own seasonings to it which kind of defeats the purpose of paying a little extra for it. I ended up dumping the other 2 cuts of meat due to no flavor and the meat was not tender at all. This market is cramped and small but on the plus side there's a wide variety of economical meats at their meat counter. The employees are friendly and this is a convenient location for picking up meats for a backyard barbecue. Chicken abadata is fantastic as well as their taco meat which is pretty darn spicy. Fresh tortillas are cheap but made the same day and last a few days in my pantry. They do have a small produce section with peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. I'd steer clear of items like lotions, soaps, etc because this is strictly a meat market and convenience store. Large bottles of Mexican Coke in glass bottles will run you 2 for $3 which is a great price. Oh, and their house made pico is great. read more

Convenient stop for goodies. The Carne Asada or chicken fajita mix is so good. They always have plenty of tortilla chips on hand. Guacamole is great and only available on the weekends. This is a great little Mexican market. They have the best assortment of paletas and all kinds of Mexican antojitos. The staff is very friendly and always very helpful. This store is small but jam packed. You can find just about anything in this tiny store. Even though it is jam packed it is very neat and organized. This is a friend's go to place for pollo and carne asada. I had it a while back and noted how tasty it was. The meats are nicely marinated and tender. More so than those I've had at Mariana's. He grilled up both again for Super Bowl. Seriously, good! I made him give me the location so I can stop in for my own supply. This is by far the best carne asada I have ever had and I have been to many other places, like Mariana Supermarket La Bonita and even Cardenas, none of them have come close to the texture and flavor of the carne asada they sell.
