Overall Mike is wonderful!!! He runs the barbershop by himself, and truthfully just knows his way around my hair. Every time I go, he knows exactly what I want when I ask him, exactly how I want when I ask him. He's extremely professional with me, very kind, and overall a talented barber. The one-star reviews are lying to you. If you're in the La Jolla area and need a barber quick, make sure to make an appointment with him!!! One thing I'd say is that it's often either empty-empty, or someone's in there already. It really matters whether you make an appointment or not, so don't be a bad planner and guarantee a spot for yourself. Walk-ins are either told to come back the next day, or are told to come back at a later time. Another important thing to be aware of is that Mike takes one day off a week, so (and I can't emphasize this enough) make an appointment. Overall, absolutely amazing service, experience, and quality. I was fortunate to meet Mr Vuong Do, the nicest, most calm, kindest, coolest person and yes the best barber I have met in a while. Left Wellington Fl on Thursday am and drove 2700 miles to San Diego. Needed a haircut. Found Mr Do's Barber Shop via a Yelp Search. Loved my haircut, loved the experience, loved the interaction- a wise old soul from Vietnam who gave me more than a perfect haircut. He gave a scalp massage and also massaged my neck and traps. It's as if he took my pain and fatigue away. I walked out a new man with not a hint of that 4 day drive from the East Coast. $16 for a great cut in La Jolla Cove is an amazing price. ( $14 for kids). He is open 7 days a week.( Rare and so awesome for a barber shop). The vibe and decor in the shop is old school and so calming and relaxing. Free one hour or two hour parking spots on Fay St. We got talking for a bit and he has 2 sons in Florida( WPB and Tampa) who are fine after Irma. What a beautiful, beautiful human being!! After getting cheap haircuts that I wasn't satisfied with for a while, I came here and found an amazing barber in a small pathway between 2 buildings where there's a lot of other salons. This place still super cheap, around $14-16 or something plus tip. The elderly barber is super considerate and does exactly what you asks him to do! Mr. Do was very nice and gentle which was a very pleasant change from my last barber, who was a bit rough with the clippers. Very inexpensive as well but the only reason I'm taking a star off is because he doesn't take appointments which can be a huge inconvenience. I waited about 40 mins for a haircut because he was halfway through someone's hair when I arrived and there was 1 other person waiting. It's not a huge deal but it's something I'm not used to. Very good experience. Went there on Monday morning and didn't have to wait. Worth every penny of it (and the price is really cheap). Will definitely come back again. Two hints: 1. Cash only; 2. It is the only one without a signboard amongst all the other fancy barbers' at that cute alley.
