We were all starving and ready to indulge ourselves in delicious Venezuelan food. I had the "arepa de choclo" (corn-cheese-bread) and "platanos fritos." Orders came out within minutes (and at this point it was a one man show). I absolutely love the decor; hacienda type decorations throughout. I just went into La Latina to order breakfast, I woke up craving an Arepa with huevos pericos. When I walked in I could see people working in the back but no one was upfront to attend me. So I said good morning! No response. Again I said buenos días! Still nothing. ..Waited a little longer because there is music playing and I was giving them the benefit of the doubt after 10 min of waiting and no one attending me I said again loudly good morning are you open?!!!! Best tequeños in town. Don't let this little hole in the wall fool you. They have great arepas, the staff is really friendly, and the environment is cozy and inviting. They have amazing tequeños and their beer is pretty cheap. It is a great place to pre-game on food and drinks if you are on a budget but it is also amazing just to go eat there and relax on the regular. The inside has a Spanish style feel to it. It is pretty small, but has a nice amount of tables and chairs where you can enjoy good food and company. read more

As a Venezuelan living in the States, I am always on the lookout for places that make the food that brings me back to my family home. I had already tried two other places in Orlando and Miami that serve arepas and other Venezuelan staples, but I had been left with a feeling of something missing. At La Latina in Miami, FL I finally found the food that I had been craving. The food here reminds me of my mom, tia, and abuelita. The arepas were the perfect size and doneness. The fillings were amazing (from the classics to the new and unusual!) and I only wish that I lived in Miami so I could try them all. I was so impressed with everything I ordered from my empanadas to the arepas and tequeno appetizers. The food took a while to come out but it was worth the wait. If I had one critique about this place, I'd have to say that the guasacaca was a little too spicy for my taste... but my fiance loved it. read more

My family and I went today to check this place out. I had a Caprese arepa, which was really tasty. I love how it was filled with plenty of cheese. The hubs got the pabellon with chicken. The chicken was quite tasty, and he loved the black beans. He usually does not finish the black beans whenever he gets it as a side dish,but he devoured it here, so it must be good. The staff was very nice. My 7 month old baby loved the place too. He liked the colors and the ambiance it provided. Just as the staff was taking out the tequenos, my baby and I went to the counter. The baby was reaching out for the tequenos and I laughed and told the hubs the baby wanted some. Minutes later, we were offered free tequenos for the baby. A staff member said the baby gets whatever he wants because he has beautiful eyes. I said the baby doesn't eat them yet (he has no teeth), but they insisted for me to have them. I did offer a little for the baby to lick, so he did try it. We will always remember La Latina for their great customer service and because it was the first place our baby tried tequenos (which is one of mommy's favorite pastries). Sad but true, an downgrade is in order - not to a one star b/c I still know they have yummy food. I've been a faithful patron of La Latina since moving in close by, as you can tell by my review. And while the service has always been haphazard the fact that they were friendly made up for it. Alas, snooty is not on my list of acceptable when I'm handing a business money in exchange for a service and product. So my yummy arepas and tequenos, I'm moving my business to the food truck across Midtown from you where I don't get an attitude when making an observation. So here's the delio. On my original review I made the observation on the quality of food in that they miss the mark on delivering a consistent product. Sometimes the arepas are filled to bursting, sometimes not. For the last few months, their tequenos have a funky bubbled surface that's not nearly as visually appealing or as tasty as they smooth texture of their originals. Okay, cool, if you changed something, it's your prerogative as a restaurateur however when a comment from a patron elicits a bad attitude from the person behind the counter AND a rolling of the eyes...well, I'd rather take my business elsewhere, b/c you see, Venezuelan food is rather a commodity in Miami and there are plenty of choices here for Venezuelan comfort food. Entonces, hasta luego and good luck - you have a good thing going, don't let it go to the dogs by not maintaining high standards of service and food delivery. Just ate there today! Seriously if you ever ate a good arepa in Caracas it doesn't taste like this. It doesn't cost $38 for 4 arepas each and 2 waters, and you don't have to clean up your table! In Caracas your arepa is really filled not half empty and the queso amarillo is tasty! Seriously this is not a a good arepera! I'm so surprised by the good reviews! read more

I went to try out this place with my wife because it had Good reviews and the pics look good but when I got there. they didn't have most of the main ingredients like sweet plantains, pabellón and select cheese to make the cachapas, arepas and not even pabellón so I ended walking out the door... another think I didn't like is the decoration. Came here yesterday with my boo after hearing great things from a friend/The Miami New Times. I decided to try the beef and cheese arepa and the sweet plantains and cheese empanada. Verdict? The arepas are totally where it's at at La Latina. While my partner in crime's empanada was a gooey cheesy mess, mine was seriously lacking in that department. However, my arepa was busting with beef and cheese and represented all that's right and delicious in the world. Make sure to dab a bit of that white garlic sauce on the arepa, it's to die for! Next time I come, I'm trying the sweet plantains and cheese arepa instead. Oh, and fair warning, if you don't like fried empanadas, then pop off because La Latina isn't for you. I also ordered a cafecito as a post-lunch treat, but will probably skip out on that next time, as it was pretty run-of-the-mill. As for the atmosphere - it was kitschy and homey, just like I like it. The service was a bit slow (since everything is made to order), but the people that work there are wonderful and welcoming. My wife introduced me to this place today for the first time. The reviews on yelp made me worry. However, if my wife says it's good I have to trust her judgement. Keep in mind the cuisine is Venezuelan. The appetizers started with fried plantain cups which lets you choose from meat, chicken or pork. Topped with delicious Spanish cheese and a slice of avocado. Definitely an instant small bite favorite! The tequeños are the Venezuelan version of mozzarella sticks and are not to be taken lightly. Delish! The main meal was an Arepa Reina that was really flavorful; however, after eating the plantain cups, it did not hold up. My wife ate her usual arepa with sweet plantain and cheese. She raves and will not order anything else. The yelpers complained about the wait and prices. The wait wasn't bad at all but it wasn't packed. I'm from Miami and the prices down by the beach and downtown area have always been pricey. My advise use the yelp 10% off. Enjoy! Will be back read more

Tried La Latina today, I had the stuffed plantains with chicken. The concept was decent...shredded chicken in a plantain, with an avocado on top. The plantains were a little too greasy for my liking but the chicken was pretty good. I wish they would have given me a bigger piece of avocado on top... I was hungry! This place is super cute! It is a small, unassuming place on the outside, but very warm, friendly and inviting on the inside! They use gluten free products and meat without any hormones, etc. and they are starting to serve vegan mini cupcakes from Bunnie's. Hubs and I tried a variety of things - Pabellon empanada, cheese & sweet plantains empanada, the Reina Pepeida and the Pelua arepas. My favorite was the Reina Pepeida arepa. It's seriously filled to the brim with a creamy chicken salad (creamy from the avocado - heavenly!) The decor is like you stepped into your Abuela's (grandma!) house and you're plopping down at the kitchen table for an afternoon snack. Tasty, cheap and fun. read more

Giving it a 3 star review because of prices and quality of food. I ordered the 5 mini tequeños and an arepa con queso de mano. The tequeños were great especially dipping them in the cilantro sauce (tasty also) but 5 tequeños for $5.95... And they were MINI. Too expensive. Next, the arepa (my favorite) was super crispy, and the queso de Mano wasn't quite fresh either. The texture and feel of it in my mouth wasn't how queso de Mano usually tastes. But the flavor was good. I rather stick to my usual spot (arepazo) it's expensive but worth the money not like this place.. Nice try though. read more

We went on a Sunday. The day before some friends were raving about this place, so we decided to pay it a visit. We ordered a breakfast with pericos (scrambled eggs with veggies) and an arepa and also a cachapa. Let's start off with the good... the cachapa was delicious! perfectly cooked. Then came the main dish (the scrambled eggs with the arepa) to be quite honest i was a little bit disappointed, the eggs didn't have any salt at all, they were very bland, and the same goes for the arepa. Given the decor, vibe and the awesome cachapa i will definitely give this place a second chance, it's hard to find places with this much charm in Miami. if yelp did half stars i would of given it a 3.5 instead of a 3 star review. read more

It was my first time at this restaurant and i can say that it was OK as a venezuelan cuisine, because i ordered the famous Pabellon and it was not good: first the rice it tasted to much of garlic, second the caraotas(black beans) it was to sweet, besides that the beef was fine as well the fried plantains with the cheese. The 3 times I ate there, the 3 times the guy screws up some ones order and tells you to still pay for it. 1st time, didn't add the plantains and charged for it. 2nd time, asked no beef with the cheese and plantain and he added the beef. 3 time, 1 arepa and 1 empanada and he made 2 arepas.
