From the moment we arrived, everything about the experience was exceptional -- the ambiance, service, food, cocktails, and attention to detail were all outstanding. We started with appetizers that were incredible, and every course that followed continued to impress. We tried both versions of the ribeye, including one prepared with Madalena's special house sauce, and both were excellent. The steak was fresh, high quality, and cooked perfectly. The sides were just as impressive -- the mashed potatoes, esquites, and vegetable tray were all full of flavor and paired perfectly with the meal. The dessert experience was another highlight. Not only was it delicious, but it also came with a fun presentation and a show that made it even more memorable. The cocktails were excellent as well. Love the amount of detail that was put into the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. We went on a weekday with no reservation so there was no wait time. I loved my salmon pasta tasted fresh. They bring you two rounds of appetizers first tostadas with salsa when you're waiting for your food and then bread with like a very creamy cheese inside when you receive your food they were absolutely delicious might I say they were my favorite non menu item lol. Found this place on Yelp and it was a must try if you're in GDL. I had made a reservation for 9 pm but we didn't get seated until closer to 9:15 pm, even though I had checked in at 8:40 pm. This was slightly annoying, as I had made a reservation for a reason. To make matters worse, we weren't seated at the side with all the attractive visuals instead we were in the front under the trees. The appetizers were quite enjoyable. I had really high expectations for La Madalena based on recommendations, and while the food and service were good, the overall experience was disappointing. I made a reservation two weeks in advance for a party of 11 and specifically mentioned I was coming from the U.S. and wanted to be seated in the best area. I was told I could choose when I arrived. When I checked in, I asked again where we should sit, and the hostess recommended the area with the ceiling projector for a first-time visit. I agreed, so you can imagine my confusion when we were instead led into a private room that was dark, oversized, and completely separate from the main dining area. This was never communicated ahead of time. When I questioned it, I was told there was no availability in the main dining area and that the large tables were already taken. I reminded them that this was exactly why I had made a reservation two weeks in advance. Being told there was no space at that point was frustrating and honestly not acceptable. The captain then explained that if we moved, seating would be tight so I was left choosing between being isolated or being cramped. Since I came for the dining experience, I chose to move, but as expected, it was uncomfortable. I asked for an additional table to make it more manageable, and the captain declined, saying it was reserved. That table was never used the entire time we were there which really upset me. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was good, but I felt rushed and like there was no real effort to correct the situation or go above and beyond. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected much better planning, communication, and guest experience especially for a large group that reserved well in advance. I'm going to do this review a little differently this time. Our visit here started with a little... incident. Here goes... The waiter knocked the skewer with fruits and veggies off of my cocktail down. He tried to play it off like nothing happened and kept talking to us. I saw him use long tongs to pickup the skewer. I thought he was going to take it away and get me another skewer. Instead he was going to put it on my drink. I kept telling him, "no, no, no!", while waving my hand. He put it on anyways. Ewww! The other person in my party told me that I should tell the waiter not to do that. I said that I did. Someone else at the table explained to the waiter that we wanted another drink. The waiter said that before people are seated, the tables are cleaned with chlorine. Ummm... I don't want to be eating that. Lol. To me it's like it doesn't matter where you go. If something falls on the table or on the floor, you dont eat it period or you get scolded by your mom. Hahhaha. On top of that, if we're saying to stop, why not stop? I would have been fine drinking the drink without the skewer. I don't want chlorine in my drink. I'm not the Little Mermaid. ROTFL. The restaurant is located in the middle of a gorgeous, artistic, masterpiece of a mall. The restaurant itself is also absolutely beautiful. I'm sure the decorations are what bring in new customers. The environment is a nice experience but I'm warning you, the way the restaurant is ran is not for everyone. All the staff are racing around everywhere. You have to constantly be aware in case someone runs into you, etc. This is not a place for older peole. If they collide with someone, the could seriously get hurt if they fall. The food and drinks are quite good. Presentation is very nice as well. In general though, as any foodie knows, the most important thing about dinner isn't just the food, it's also taking pics of the food. Here you have to be very aggressive and take your pics very fast because they immediately start serving the food onto your plates before you can even get a good look at it. Gota be quick if you want those glam food pics. Hee hee. Service is top-notch. Like assisted living facility top tier. Everything is served, tossed, dropped, etc for you. The only thing they don't do is put the food in your mouth. I guess some people may find this enjoyable but not for me... or my party for that matter. It's like just let us eat for crying out loud! You're like under a microscope. Can't do anything without intervention. It became our inside joke at our table. If the restaurant just let everyone relax, customers as well as staff, then it would be a much better experience. The waitors wouldn't be running around like ants to micromanage the customers. I didn't want to get up to use the bathroom in case I collided with someone. Someone at our table tried to extend their arm to take a pic of our group and he almost close-lined a waiter who was power walking. Hahaha. Just chill out people. Let's all have a good time and enjoy life. If I come back, with a new group of people because the people I went with refused to come back, then I would be open to changing my review if the experience improved. My first time in Guadalajara! The breathtaking beauty of the city did not disappoint. The beautiful people here did not disappoint. How about the fine dinning here? A couple family members went to university here and took me to this place, their favorite restaurant. I love the decor! We were seated in a half moon section surrounded by books, goes very well with the proud intellectual tradition of this city. The ceiling is an LED that changes throughout the night. The wait staff is extremely well trained and attentive, with a manager constantly walking around checking on the staff and customers. The best service I have had for a long time. The drinks were a highlight for my dinning mates. Beautifully crafted with unique presentations for each. We had the salmon and rock shrimp appetizers, both are really well done, and meticulously presented and served onto our plate by the staff. Now the main course. And the only reason for me to be here, the genuine Japanese A5. Many expensive restaurants serve Wagyu that is not genuine. But this place has the certificate in Japanese at the entrance! And a golden certificate in Spanish at the reservation desk. I had the A5 New York. It is served table side. Delicate thin slices grilled on hot stone by a staff, and placed on your plate as they cook. The meat was soft, juicy, perfectly seasoned, perfectly prepared. A memorable dining experience. It went really well with a surprisingly good Mexican cab. Two of my dining mates ordered their extremely popular ribeye, topped with a tangy Mexican sauce, very nice also. He was rude and aggressive, I wanted to tip cash but he force me to tip on my card saying no we only take card tip and still after I did want he said he made a face because I choose 15% like if that wasn't enough mind you my bill was almost $500 usd. We had a reservation set for 2215 on a Wednesday evening. We arrived 5 minutes early, was told that our table was not ready and we would have to wait 30 minutes to be sat. That has never had happened to me when booking a reservation. Once sat it was difficult hear the server. The ambiance was too loud for my taste. My wife was needing some guidance on selecting a wine. The server stated that he was a sommelier, however he had trouble explaining the wines. My wife was looking for a big bold red and he directed her towards a French Pinot noir. Another thing to note that this restaurant does not offer a small taste of wine to assist with selecting. We decided we would only order a couple small appetizers to see if our experience was going to get better. The first we ordered was queso fundido, our server gave us a warning that it was spicy and checked to see if that was alright with us. Spice is one of our favorite flavors and our pallete is well adapted. The queso fundido did not come to the table piping hot as it should and the tortillas were cold and no spice or flavor whatsoever in the dish. We tried the scallops appetizer next. This one was served as a mini tostada and the accompanying parts went perfectly. We decided to not continue with any more and try another restaurant. We did however have a couple bites of the chocolate volcano cake. It had so much melted molten goo. The proportion of molten inside vs outside cake ratio was off but the flavor was there. Amazing! We made a reservation and were a little late- the Google maps and uber location were both wrong! It's very hard to find. It's in a little mall across from the larger mall. So if you are going to uber or drive, use "The Landmark Guadalajara Mall." It's near Max Mara. The ambiance is beautiful! The service is even better. We almost felt uncomfortable with how good we were treated. Often it felt excessive as if we were famous or royalty. the drinks were okay- presentation was nice but they were pricey and small. The food was amazing! We had the queso fundido with chorizo, salmon balls (OMG you gotta order this!), and some sort of steak tartare that the waiter recommended. All of it was delicious. Our youngest ordered the cheeseburgers- they were some of the best cheeseburgers we've ever had! Our daughter ordered the creamy white pasta and it was really good too. We opted to also order the rib eye and honestly it was just okay. I've had better quality and the steaks tasted bland if I'm honest. Everything else was great though. I highly recommend. Where to begin? We were in town for a work trip for the week & we anticipated coming here. We made a reservation through open table a week before fr a typical weekday (Wednesday).
