The food is great, I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast croissant. However the setup of this place is so confusing, especially for a new patron. It has a french cafeteria feel where you move down a line and get served bits and parts of your meal. I only had a few minutes to review the menu and felt rushed to place an order. Went here on a Sunday morning and was confused by the half restaurant half cafeteria style. The service itself seemed super swamped and understaffed for the style of serving and I ended up getting my Parisian eggs 10 mins after my friend got their food. The food itself wasn't cooked to order and the eggs where very over easy to the point where I could see egg whites still sloshing around the dish. They also forgot to make my coffee drink even though I had to ask multiple times and i didn't get it until our empty dishes had been taken away. Probably will not be coming back. read more

Visited this cafe yesterday (Oct 9) to check it out. Has a lovely atmosphere, and the desserts/food seems yummy. I couldn't stay long, so I quickly chose a the cheesecake parfait which is yummy for a parfait, but is more like a cheesecake flavored yogurt parfait. It had layers of graham cracker crust pieces, strawberry slices, and cheesecake filling. The service was okay, but I wasn't there long enough to rate the service. The parfaits were packaged in cute cups and lids and went along with a box and a nice plastic bag. Seemed like a lot of packaging for 2 small desserts. Had lunch with my sweetie at this location. The sweetie ordered the Duet Magnifique. His selections were the tomato basil soup, ceasar salad & half chicken pesto sandwich. My selection was half croque monsieur sandwich minus the ham and a cup of tomato basil soup. Their tomato basil soup is one of my favorites. This location is very disorganized. The staff is very rude and the location is not well kept. There were no pecans for the salad. The mushroom soup and potato gallette were both cold. The pasta in the pasta salad was grossly undercoooked. The facility was also not clean. Witnessed 3 roaches while in the facility. Extremely poor service. Would not recommend this location at all! I was not the only customer with issues. The family in front of us had to be reimbursed for their meal due to issues as well. La Madeleine on Pleasant Hill is a great little French cafe. It's bigger than it appears from the outside. They have a cozy fireplace inside that is fantastic to try to snag a seat near during the Winter months. The staff here are amazing; they will recognize old faces and make new faces feel just as welcomed. My close friend actually loved the cute little chairs they have inside, and a staff member even gave me a number for their corporate office to ask where they get their furniture from so that we could buy two of the chairs for her home! Amazing, right? They were overpriced but definitely worth the effort and money. Most companies would never have even acknowledged a request such as that. We found this place on yelp and wanted to try it for brunch on a Saturday morning. The ambience is great! We ordered cinnamon croissant French toast and a custom crepe with onions, spinach and onions. The French toast came with strawberries, blueberries and oranges with maple syrup! Yummy it was! The crepe was delicious and flavorful! Loved their coffee as well! Free refills! They even offered us free coffee to-go!! They also offer free unlimited fresh baked bread with butter and jam !! After visiting La Madeleine three times to collect my thoughts for writing this review, I can tell you that what I like about this place is their simplistic approach to food. Yes, it's classic French café cuisine. Here, you won't find truffled this, or quinoa that - or any of those other trendy ingredients. You will find tasty sandwiches - like turkey & brie, French dip, chicken & pesto, or the croque monsieur. The soups are equally tasty - like the cream of mushroom, country potato, French onion, or tomato basil. They also offer tasty salads, like the classic caesar, roasted pear and prosciutto, or the balsamic chicken salad. They also have a small bakery counter with various French pastries, cookies, and other assorted baked goods. Yummy goodness. If you're lucky, you'll stop by on a day that they have their homemade potato chips - lightly tossed in (what I believe to be) oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Today, I enjoyed the mini croque trio - a mini croque monsieur, mini chicken pesto croque, and a mini turkey, bacon, and tomato pesto croque with a cranberry & pecan field green salad - all for a little over $8. Very fresh, flavorful and satisfying. If you can, this is certainly an ideal spot for lunch. I would definitely call this an upgrade over their competitors Panera Bread and Newks. I come here way too often probably. But it's okay, I'm not hurting anyone. Their potato soup is the best soup I think I've ever had. Ever. Ask for extra bacon and cheese, and with their unlimited bread, a bowl of that will pick you up for most of the day. All of their cakes are good, but my favorite is the strawberry Napoleon. So fresh and delicious. The pastry crust is very thick and hard to slice, so I suggest not sharing this one. Or ordering two I suppose. Their chicken salad croissant sandwich, strawberries and fresh cream, and salads are all super good. And their (unlimited) French roast coffee is also perfect too. Came pretty quickly..I thought the Bowtie pasta was bit soggy and the cream sauce was a bit soupy..The veggie and the ham was really good..High quality..The bread that came with it was perfection.. I love coming here just because they have the most amazing tomato basil soup! It's actually the only reason I come to La Madeleine. The place is usually very dirty and the last time I was here, the restrooms were out of paper towels and smelled as if people urinate regularly on the walls. The staff is also very inattentive and they really don't seem happy to be there, with the exception of this one lady that usually works the cash register. Hey have great seasonal dishes and the bombshizzle signature dishes. I always get the salad sampler and build my own soup and salad trio. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is nice and cozy. I highly recommend this spot if you like food. First visit at La Madeleine was wonderful. Came with 4 friends for girls night. I went with the Turkey and Brie sandwich but asked the turkey to be replaced with zucchini. Their customer service is wonderful. I loved that the lady actually spoke in French! I got the tomato basil soupe, and the caesar salad to go with it. It was delicious, I really really enjoyed the tomato basil soupe. I got the Orangina drink to drink, which was a sparkling citrus beverage. Very yummy! I tried the mushroom soupe from my mom, it was very good as well. The place has a very lovely, "homey" vibe to it. Definitely a great place to hang out with friends, study, or even have a date night! First of all, Yelp/the business owner of this location needs to update their hours and stick to the hours listed. I tried coming this morning at 6:45 and the lady came to the locked door telling me they don't open until 7:00 (even though I came to this same location last week before 7:00). She refused to open the door and I tried telling her it says they are open at 6:30 on their website. She just shook her head and refused to open the door. I was on my way to work and couldn't wait 15 in a dark parking lot for them to "officially" open. Instead of letting me grab my food and go they lost a customer for life. Terrible. This morning is highly unusual for this location. I ordered the Country French breakfast with eggs scrambled cheddar cheese. First, my breakfast was luke-warm at best. Second, the eggs were not prepared as requested. So, I told the waiter and he said that he would have fresh eggs scrambled with cheese made. I waited 10 min and no eggs. I had to go back up to the counter to remind him that I was still waiting for my eggs. The waiter came to my table and took my plate then returned it with some cheddar cheese shreds in my original eggs and gave the same plate of food back to me. Talk about low standards. My food got cold waiting for hot eggs with cheese. Breakfast here can run at least $12 and I think anyone could agree that they would like their food hot. I had to ask again for fresh cook eggs and a hot plate of food. When I finally got my breakfast, I was given a smaller portion of eggs, a burnt potato galette, and no tomatoes. The waiter gave me a fresh croissant. Thanks for that at least. So the only good thing about my breakfast was hot coffee, a bowl of fresh fruit, and a croissant. I do believe the last three items would cost $12 anywhere. I come here often enough and order the same breakfast because it is my favorite. I welcome a courtesy Country French Breakfast and expect management to contact me in reference to my experience. If not, I will contact the corporate office. Thank you. I like this place more than I like most chains. I started eating at this chain in the DC-Maryland area and fell in love. Everything that I've had has been great, but the strawberry romanoff (sp) is awesome. That creamy glaze is so freakishly good. Whenever I'm in this area, which is not often I make sure to stop here.
