I got the bacon egg and cheese croissant to test the waters and it knocked my expectations out of the ball park. The croissants here are so flaky and wonderful. My partner got the apple turnover and it was equally tasty Service was great. The man that took our order (and made the food) was so happy and polite it made me even happier to be there. We have been coming here for years, though I wouldn't call us regulars. We loved this place under Olivier and since he sold it, this is only our third visit. The new owners have done it justice. The edits/additions to the menu are all good. The originals are still fantastic. This place is for crepes, French pastries (friends, croissants, tarts), and breads. I've never been for lunch, though that's my daughter's preference for this place. Why aren't we here more often? The coffee. It's fine, but nothing great, and when my wife and I have a Saturday morning to go out, we usually want great coffee. The space is tight, smallish, but clean. GA French Bakery & Cafe had been on my list for a while as I believe it made a Top 100 Yelp Best Bakeries list at some point. Unfortunately this is not the kind of bakery where you can pick up some loaves, baguettes, etc. so I'd consider this more of a cafe. We consumed two half sandwiches (honey maple and roast beef) there, took a couple of croissants and a bread pudding to go. The sandwiches were good, nothing spectacular, but fresh ingredients and well-executed. The croissants were definitely better than average and far better than what you can find most places in the US. Having had croissants in France, I would say this comes pretty close. We didn't have any trouble finding a table or parking right out front, it must have been just past the lunch rush on a Saturday. Note that they are closed Sunday and Monday, and only open until 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday. I would return if I was in the area again. read more

I have tried the croissants at Arsicault in San Francisco, Car Bakery in LA as well as croissants in Paris. The almond croissant has a delicious filling but I would be hard pressed to call it a croissant as there are no layers and the dough is not laminated. The cheese danish was perfectly sweet. This place is a gem in Duluth! My friend and I decided to come try out this bakery. Upon walking in, the owner greeted me and saw that I was still looking around and trying to decide what I wanted. He told me to take my time and that he'd be back shortly to take my order, but provided a suggestion that they serve crepes on Saturdays (and Saturdays only). I decided to get the chicken crepe with a cup of hazelnut coffee. My friend got the almond croissant. The owner offered to warm up the croissant since we were eating in the cafe. While we were checking out, he shared that his wife was also Taiwanese and was excited to learn that we were as well. While we were there, he made sure that we had everything we needed (forks, knives, etc.) and checked in to see how we were enjoying our food. I liked the crepe, as it had a slight sweetness to it, which paired well with the savory fillings. I got to try a bite of the almond croissant and it was very flaky and delicious! My family and I were looking for a unique bakery to grab some treats meanwhile we ran errands and came across this gem! We absolutely love this family-owned and operated business so much. This was my second new cafe stop of the 2024 cafe journey. Although there are a lot of cafes in the area, it's sometimes difficult to find super unique ones. But this one is a one of a kind. Being an authentic French bakery, I was excited to try the treats that they had to offer. It's a quaint spot that could easily get overlooked. Although the shop is small, the decorations and staff make the place welcoming. I ordered a ham, egg, and cheese croissant with one of the speciality teas while my friend ordered a cheese danish. Both tasted INCREDIBLE. The croissant was nice and flaky, there was enough ham on the sandwich, and everything was cooked to perfection. With a little sugar added, the tea was a nice warm start to the morning. After finishing the food, my friend and I took some pictures around the shop and said our goodbyes. It's been a very long time since I've been here. I just don't think about it but this time I did. I was telling my coworkers about this delicious place and should go get their sandwiches. I tried the hot sandwiches - caprese! I wanted the chocolate chip cookies too. Food took a minute to come out but it's okay. It's a small family shop with great people behind it. The food is delicious. My hot sandwich was a little on the sweet side but it balanced out with the salty cheesiness. I was sooo full afterwards. Surprisingly, there was bell peppers melted in my sandwich as well. The Dirty Chips were delicious. I love me some kettle style chips. The baked goods look amazing! I had a chocolate almond croissant and it was the most freshly baked croissant that I have ever eaten in my life. There were a ton of almonds on top with a tasty chocolate drizzle. There was a filling that was moist inside those delicate layers of buttery croissant. I chose wisely! The owner was very nice and named quickly what every item was in the cases. It was a very tough decision so I will be back to try the other items that I really wanted too. Look for "GA Bakery" on top of the store in the strip of stores along the main road. If you want sugary Americanized lattes/cappuccinos with lots of sweetener choices, you're not going to get it. This place is SO good. I fell in love with the almond croissants on yelp, which is what made me want to come here. Sadly, when I arrived around 1pm, they were sold out of croissants. They still had plenty of goodie to choose from. I got the Apple/blueberry pastry (tart looking thing?). After I took a bite, I knew I needed more. I ordered 1/2 the caprese sandwich with French onion soup. The combo comes with a cookie and a drink. They only had oatmeal cookies. While oatmeal cookie is normally not my choice, it was the best oatmeal cookie I've ever eaten..probably ever made. Crispy edges, goey inside. Rich, buttery. The bread on the sandwich was also perfection. Really, everything I ordered here had perfect flavor, was cooked perfectly, included top notch/fresh ingredients. Everything was really just the best. The tart I initially ordered was so good. The base was perfectly dense and chewy and the apples were fresh and perfectly cooked. The granola on top tasted homemade. Everything being delicious made me a little sad that they didn't have those beautiful looking croissants, but what I had was 1000% satisfying.
