I've had this spot on my list for awhile, but it can be hard to gather for brunch when they don't take reservations and have an hour dine in limit. However, we found some time, and here we are. It's not my first time having to wait because a place is busy without reservations, but during the wintry times... they didn't have much of a wait. We were seated pretty quick, but in the "outdoor" area that really needed the heaters to work for it to be comfortable. They do zip up the area to keep the wind out, but the cold still seeps in. When I eventually got my food, it cooled down faster than I could eat it. Now the food was good. I have a soft spot for breakfast/brunch and would honestly eat it for dinner if they offered it, but they do not. Regardless, they did not disappoint! Everything was flavorful and filling, the tostada and market hash being the standout menu items for me. The market hash, in particular, was such an unexpectedly delicious dish because it seemed too healthy to be good, but everything worked well together to not make it so drab. There was a good mix of different vegetation too. If I lived nearby, I would most likely opt to get that more often than not. If there was anything I would change, it would be the potatoes. They are soft and seasoned well, but I would prob be more likely to eat them for dinner than brunch. Perhaps that's more of a personal preference though with how I would imagine potatoes during the day and how I like them.

Hen Mother Cookhouse is such a vibe! If you're into a chill, intimate atmosphere, this is definitely the spot. The decor is so cute, lots of hanging plants and greenery on the tables that make it feel really fresh and cozy. The service was quick, which was a huge plus because the portions are massive. Everything we ordered was delicious, and we definitely didn't leave hungry. Perfect place for a low-key but high-quality meal.

This is one of my go-to spots when I want to brag about the food scene OTP. Hen Mother Cookhouse gives off the energy of a cute traditional farmhouse brunch spot mixed with endless creative culinary choices. It is always rightfully packed, so be prepared to wait a little bit, but it is one of the few places where I will wait in line almost every time. They always keep the menu fresh, offering multiple seasonal dishes every day in addition to their baseline menu. The weekend is the best time to go if you prefer to try more of their specials. My top three dishes here: -Market Hash: This is a dish for the breakfast skillet veggie lovers. This beautiful dish is loaded with seasonal vegetables, eggs, potatoes, deliciously caramelized onions, and the option to add cheese to bring it all together. I get this almost every time I go; this is my dream brunch dish. -Brown Butter Pancakes: These are the fluffiest pancakes I've seen. I feel like you could easily exchange your pillow for these and get the best sleep of your life. -Chicken Club: Not necessarily your traditional club, it's so much better. The beautiful green goddess dressing on the sandwich should be sold on its own; it's absolutely phenomenal. The servers here are all incredible as well. Shoutout to Angel for always making sure we have a great time. If you need convincing to check out Hen Mother, let this be your reason!

"I need a cinnamon roll" I was woken up with this sentence. "Wha- from where?" I responded. "Hen Mother Cookhouse." "...That's an hour away." "I know; put on pants and grab your keys." And it's worth it. HMC is a great and always packed breakfast/lunch spot, especially on weekends when they serve special things like their cinnamon roll pictured wherever the heck the pictures go in context to my review. They also have some of the best fried chicken in the game. Portions are huge in everything, and the prices reasonable for what you get. Staff is always nice, and they have a large parking lot. Digital waiting system so you can give them your number to text you when your seat is ready as well. Great place and 100% worth the wait!

LOVE this place! My only complaint is that the menus are different on the weekends when they add more choices. This menu is an updated WEEKDAY menu with their price increases. June, 2026. It's still one of the best breakfast choices in town and worth every penny!

I've been to both Hen Mother Cookhouse locations and never once have I left disappointed or hungry. My fiancé and I were in town visiting family for Thanksgiving and ended up at the Jones Bridge location twice in one weekend because my fiancé is unhinged-level obsessed with the chicken sandwich (which you can only get on weekends, a tragedy I will address later). Service + Food: 10/10 both visits. Fast, friendly, and our coffee cups were never allowed to dip below half-full. My kind of people. What we ordered: Appetizer: Cinnamon roll Mandatory. Non-negotiable. The frosting tastes like someone whispered "treat yourself" directly into it. Mains: - XXL Cookhouse Chicken Biscuit I don't eat meat, but my fiancé has not stopped talking about this sandwich. He says the pimento cheese "hits hard" and honestly, I believe him. - Breakfast Egg Sandwich (minus bacon) So good, and the roll it comes on deserves its own fan club. - Breakfast Tacos My aunt is feral for these. She orders them every single time and acts personally offended when anyone else even considers ordering something different. The vibe at Hen Mother is warm, homey, and welcoming. It feels like brunch at your cool aunt's house if your aunt also happened to be a professionally trained chef. If I could make one tiny wish: please, I beg of you, let the weekend menu peek its head out during the week. Or at least allow the XXL chicken biscuit to make a midweek cameo. My fiancé would write you a thank-you note. Already counting down the days until our next trip back to Alpharetta!

When your husband craves something and you find a spot you want to try, decisions are made. It's rare he likes breakfast foods, and I'm a big fan of breakfast items. This place caught my eye ever since I walked by their Alpharetta location. We came on a Tuesday morning with no wait. Decided to sit indoors because the pollen isn't so nice for us. Service was just okay, but once the food came, our taste buds were very intrigued for more. I got the chicken and waffles. Basic I know, but I was just want some carbs and protein. My husband got the market hash. Our server did warn us it was a lot of vegetables. Surprisingly the vegetables did have a good amount of seasoning. Would definitely order that again. This was a small restaurant, so I can see it getting busy during the weekends.

Hen Mother Cookhouse is a nice little breakfast spot in Johns Creek. Word of advice, get there early or prepare to wait a bit as this place is ALWAYS full. However, I think that speaks to the restaurant as a whole, and the fact that the community of Johns Creek loves this place. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor seating, allowing for fur babies to join. On my visit, I opted to sit outside in order to get a table quicker. The exterior seating was lovely. Each table was decorated with a cute little flower bouquet. There were smaller tables for parties of two, and larger ones (including community tables) for bigger parties. The staff was very quick intended to all of their patrons accordingly. My husband and I were there over a weekend when this restaurant offers a specialty menu. We each ordered an item off the specialty menu. My husband opted for a breakfast offering, while mine was geared more toward a lunch offering. I really enjoyed my plate. There was so much food that I ultimately had to bring half of it home.

    Breakfast tacos and cocktails!

This is a very cute place in downtown Alpharetta. We ordered the breakfast tacos, pancakes and a few cocktails. The pancakes are amazing and taste like they may have a cornmeal base. The portion on the pancakes is enormous and could easily be split among two people. They warn you they take 20 mins to prepare but ours easily took closer to 40 which is why I'm deducting a star. The breakfast tacos were good but not great and were served room temp when we would have preferred hot. The cocktails were fantastic! This place has the makings of a 5 star A+ restaurant but lacked execution. Food was delivered at different times so my wife and I were done with our meal and cocktails by the time our son got his pancakes.

We got seated pretty quickly for a family of four, which is always a win. Now, seating..Well, let's just say we felt like we were practically eating shoulder-to-shoulder. A little more space would've been nice. Fresh-squeezed OJ: Top-notch. It's like the juice version of a high-five. Can't mess that up. Cinnamon roll: Let's just say it's the size of a small planet. Super sweet and definitely big enough to share... unless you're feeling brave (or a little too hungry). Bacon omelette: This thing packs a punch--big, bold, and full of flavor. It's the superhero of omelettes. Market hash with 2 eggs any style: Loaded with veggies, which is a nice way to feel healthy while still diving into a hearty breakfast. Not bad at all. And despite the chaos of the packed place, our server was a total pro--smooth, on point, and didn't miss a beat.

On the hunt for the best brunch places, my family and I ended up at Hen Mother Cookhouse. When we arrived, there was a line, which isn't surprising brunch in metro Atlanta is just what you do. My wife put our name on the waiting list while I parked, and she came back saying it would be a 15-minute wait. That was surprising, given the line I saw, but perfect for us. We waited outside for about 15 minutes, but soon 15 turned into 30. My wife went back inside to check what was going on, and they said the kitchen was backed up which made sense. No big deal; they told us to give them another 10 minutes. Eventually, we sat down. The place is cozy, and I thought it was much bigger from the outside. We sat in the corner with the music playing pretty loudly, but the playlist was actually really good. Our server, Tyler, was a cool guy very nice and helpful. The food came out faster than expected. My son ordered the pancakes and chicken sausage. I got French toast and scrambled eggs with cheese, while my wife had the special of the day: chicken Caesar salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. I'd never had baked French toast before it was thick but light and fluffy, just perfect. The scrambled eggs with cheese were perfection. The chicken Caesar salad sandwich was huge so if you're hungry, it's ideal. My wife could only eat half, just FYI. The chicken was seasoned to perfection, and the sandwiches were made with sourdough, which you can't go wrong with. Sourdough is amazing by itself! The pancakes were thick, almost like actual cake, but really good I was genuinely surprised. Usually, when restaurants serve huge portions, it's not great, but that's not the case here. Everything was excellent. We also tried the turmeric drink, because health is wealth, of course another excellent choice. Safe to say, we're fans and will definitely be back! Thanks again to Tyler, our excellent waiter.

Went here with my mom for a late breakfast. She got eggs and a fruit cup. I got chicken and waffles. She loved her food. These chicken and waffles are some of the best I have ever had. The waffle was light and buttery. The chicken was amazing. Crunchy and such good flavors I only needed a bit of maple syrup and that just enhanced everything. Will definitely be going back !

Do you service mimosas on Saturday's?

Yes , they add the lunch menu at 11 but you can order breakfast until closing :)

    Do they have bottomless mimosas?

They have mimosas but not bottomless.

What vegan options do they have?

Our market hash can be made vegan, salads are vegan, energy bowl can be made vegan...

Do they have gluten free options?

No, they do not have meaningful gluten free options. Some fruit and potatoes is hardly filling. And contrary to what the previous answer claims, they put right on the menu that they do not accommodate modifications. They are serious about this --…

Unfortunately, our excitement quickly faded before we were even seated. When I walked into the restaurant, I was completely ignored by a young blonde employee named Claudia who was standing behind the counter in the waiting area. She looked directly at me and continued what she was doing without so much as a greeting or an acknowledgment. A simple, "Good morning, someone will be right with you," would have gone a long way. Since no one else was in the lobby and I noticed a clipboard on the counter, I politely asked if there was a waitlist. Claudia responded with an attitude that she "wasn't the hostess." I calmly asked where the hostess was, and she simply replied that she was clearing tables. There was no offer to help, no explanation of the process, and no attempt to assist me. She continued interacting with other staff members while I stood there feeling like an inconvenience. Thankfully, another employee who appeared to be a waiter noticed me. He immediately picked up the same clipboard that had been sitting on the counter, took my name and phone number with a cheerful attitude, and let me know it would be about a 15-minute wait. His professionalism completely contrasted with the poor customer service I had just experienced. Once seated, our waiter was personable, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was also very good. I ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble with hash browns, and it was delicious. My friend ordered the Catfish and Grits and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The food and our waiter helped redeem the experience, but first impressions matter. Management should ensure that every employee understands that providing basic courtesy and hospitality is everyone's responsibility, not just the hostess's. Even if greeting guests or managing the waitlist wasn't Claudia's primary role, there was no excuse for being dismissive or rude to someone walking through your front door. Alpharetta has no shortage of excellent brunch spots with both great food and outstanding customer service. Sadly, because of the way I was treated before I was even seated, I won't be returning to The Southern Porch. I also won't feel comfortable recommending it to friends or family. It's disappointing because the kitchen and our waiter did their jobs well, but one employee's attitude overshadowed what could have been an otherwise enjoyable brunch.
