First, I do enjoy the food. They no longer have the tomato basil chicken pasta, which was my favorite but that's ok. Unfortunately, recently the service has gone downhill. They used to have very friendly and helpful staff but not anymore. Today, I placed 2 orders, 1 to eat there and a Togo order. When I was paying, the cashier was reviewing my order which I asked her to repeat because it was loud and I couldn't hear. I was trying to make sure the order was correct. The cashier got very rude, and repeated herself but did so with an attitude. She spoke to me like I was a child. Uncalled for. Then I left with my Togo order. When we got home, we discovered they didn't put all the food in the container. Seriously, how hard is it to get an order correct. This is not the first time our order got screwed up. The first time I ever went into a La Madeleine was in Baton Rouge a few years ago, maybe once or twice. I waited a long time before I started going to the Mandeville one after I moved to Covington in 2014. A few days ago, I finally went in and was welcomed by a friendly staff -- Ashley and Mallory were cheerful, bright-faced and eager to please and make recommendations. Ashley said she liked the seasonal Turkey Cranberry Melt while Mallory thought the chicken salade sandwich was better. I ordered both and got the basil pesto pasta salad and the crinkle-cut kettle -brand potato chips as sides to the sandwiches. I think I also bought an "ooey-gooey" vanilla cake as dessert. A few days later I also tried another chicken salade sandwich with pasta side, caesar salad with chicken, a side of mushroom soup, and a "large"-size chocolate torte. The Turkey Cranberry Melt was quite a hefty sandwich with a lot of meat, but the combination wasn't quite as pleasing as the chicken salade sandwich which came across as lighter, better texture, and less clashing of flavors. And I liked the basil pesto pasta better than the crinkle-cut kettle potato chips. I thought the caesar salad was a bit skimpy on the caesar dressing I was given -- they put three little narrow plastic "sauce" containers and filled them with dressing, which I thought was a little ridiculous, because the total amount just wasn't enough, and putting them in little tiny plastic containers made the available dressing even less, because of the cling factor. The mushroom soup was nice and creamy, and had a strong mushroom flavor, densely filled with mushroom bits. The chocolate torte tasted okay. Quite attractive-looking but again, the portion was quite small for the price, I thought. Out of all the things I have tried so far, I like the chicken salade sandwich and the basil pesto salad the best. What I'll say though is that while the presentation is great -- attractive paper boxes for the sandwiches, and octagonal plastic containers for the salads, generally the portions you get are a bit small for the price you pay. But it's a sort of mini-luxury kind of place to go to, to experience something that's higher quality that your usual fast food restaurant, deli or diner. read more

I used to love having breakfast at La Madeline. If fact it became a family birthday tradition. Today is my birthday and like we have done for a decade now we come to La Madeline for my birthday breakfast and I order the cinnamon croissant French toast because it USED to be absolutely amazing. When it came out we were met with something different. They had change what was beautiful and delicious to something that is oily, crispy, and burnt. It wasn't like the French toast we used to get at all. It was disgusting and tasted like I was eating a stale potato chip covered in syrup. First of all, this place used to be my #1. After getting out of school this was one of our stops. I am in love with their tomato basil soup! It is SO good. Problably the best soup I have ever had. I havent been here in a about a year or so...yestersday my mother and I decided to stop here, have a cup of coffee and some dessert....OMG. THERE WAS A LINE AS LONG AS THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. We patiently waited for our turn, to only be stopped by the cashier girl who tells us she cant serve us anymore because there was a funeral party that needed to be attended and that it was going to take a out 30-35 minutes for anyone to attend us....-.- needless to say I flip the f*ck out. I told her we had been waiting for about 20 minutes for just dessert and coffee...its not that hard to cut a slice of cake, pour a cup of coffee...unbelieveable. read more

Although I really like La Madeleine's food, I was very disappointed on my recent experience. I purchased 2 Caesar salads (regular size) and 2 cups of French onion soup. The food is decent and arrives fast but be prepared for dirty utensils and cups. The tomato basil soup is excellent and I was very happy to find a vegetarian sandwich on the menu, but next time I'll skip the soup and just go with the sandwich in order to avoid having to use their dirty spoons and having to wonder what the inside of the cup looked like before they put my food in it... I love La Madeleine. The food is pretty consistent for a chain. I went there Tuesday night with my girlfriends this week. The service was super slow. They seem to be employing many high school kids. And they just weren't all that into it. I waited in line for about 15 minutes before getting my order taken. The lady behind me ordered the same thing. I waited and waited then moved on down and paid. Next thing you know the lady behind me is walking off with her food (my food). It just was disorganized and many simple mistakes were being made. Other customers were annoyed. It took them 20 minutes to make my friend an ice coffee. It wasn't all that busy. No one was rude or anything I just think the manager needs to be more on the ball with their employees. The service kinda sucked. read more

I visit Covington often since I have family down there, but this was only my second time to have food from here. The first time, I didn't not order, nor did I pick it up. I am not sure what type of lengthy process it was. Well, this time, I called I. The order and was told 15-20 minutes. Upon arrival, I paid for my order, then I waited and waited and waited (that's how they get you - pay first and you're trapped). The man in front of me was given a free gift card for his long wait, but I never did. After almost 45 minutes since my call, my food was finally bagged up. I get home, my soup is cold (because it had been sitting out on the counter (I had no idea) waiting on the rest. This is a long-time favorite of mine in Mandeville; the food is great and the atmosphere is relaxing. Their coffee is some of the best I've had ( French Dark Roast). What made my recent visit so nice is that I had a gift card to use and had been saving the balance for a rainy day. We had great service. Polite but also very kind and accommodating crew. It was near closing time, and we were finishing a light dinner when the Management-on-duty, Elissa in this case, treated the remaining customers to some some leftover unsold loaves of bread. That was so welcomed. She was so refreshingly nice and professional. That kind of kindness just made my night and prompted me to write this review. read more

I am not a fan of fancy pants restaurants, and I was sure that this was one...until my wife made me go and saw that it was pretty casual. The food off of the menu is wonderful, but I like getting food straight off the line. No matter what you get, I recommend trying the Strawberries Romanoff on the side. I have to agree with the other reviewer. I've been going to this La Mad for a few years and more often than not have had bad service and bad food. I was there last week for lunch and with the new and not improved vegetarian sandwich, basically I got a little piece of bread (on the sweet and soft side at that) with a little piece of sweaty cheese and a slice of tomato. It was suppose to have pesto, but it had some kind of mayo instead. I was going to give a Eek! yelp and saw this previous entry. They always over dress the salads. This time around we had several people in our group and in an effort to simplify things the manager ended up confusing everyone especially himself. I also happened to eat at this location a few weeks ago and stuck with the spinach quiche and it wasn't bad. However, often the quiches are burned a bit too much. Overall I think all of the La Madeleines in the Greater New Orleans area have gone down. Too bad. read more

My daughter and I have been going here for years. We like that they are open on Sundays and have great soups and salads. Service seems to be hit or miss, though. The last time we dined there, we had to wait for the 2 employees to finish their conversation before they could take our order. I was interrupted while giving my order to know what sandwich I needed. The person that made the salad, threw it up on the counter and walked away with a 'Have a nice day". The cashier is, usually, the same one every time we dine in. It's pretty costly considering the portions and ingredients. I almost always leave full but it costs $20 per person to do it. Usually their breakfast items made the grade, puff pastry was warm and fresh, clearly a real butter recipe. The croissants can be cool even off the warm line so underwhelming there. But the tea is good and the coffee as well. I didn't have a problem with the cleanliness in-house. That said, we ordered the Holiday Feast this year after moving to the North Shore in a big hurry- had no cooking tools, just plates and a microwave. On two occasions as I was paying the person who helped me at the counter specified that there would be "warming instructions" given when we picked up our "oven-roasted turkey breast" and side dishes. The turkeys instructions were how to finish baking the breast! We had to buy roasting pans to cook the scalloped potatoes,(45 minutes) and the turkey had to cook for two hours in our brand-new oven (not ideal for those who've gotten into new ovens, they off-gas badly for the first 10 cycles or so). We had food-safety issues with all of it. Got sick from the turkey or potatoes or both....So sad for thanksgiving. But seriously, Le Mad, a par-baked turkey is not an oven-roasted turkey. It should be labeled par-baked on the menu selection. Oh, the cranberry orange stuffing was nasty, we couldn't eat that at all. read more

I used to love this restaurant, when they had this vegetarian sandwich that they discontinued. It was a roasted vegetable sandwich. It seems like once they got rid of this sandwich everything went downhill from there. The service is absolutely horrible, particularly at the Mandeville location. I ordered a vegetarian sandwich and ended up getting a ham sandwich. The staff had an attitude problem when they were informed about the mistake. And they messed my order up a second time. I went to La Madeleine around 5:30 pm on 11/23/2015 to see if I could put together a desert platter or get a whole cheesecake. When I walked into the bakery section it looked very disorganized, case was half emptied and girl behind register was talking on the phone. The problem I had was everything looked unsanitary and old. The counters and glass on case were not clean actually fifthly . Floor was disgusting. The deserts did not look fresh nor appetizing. Sloppy looking deserts no pride by whoever made the deserts. I have eaten and bought at the bakery at La Madeleine for many years and loved it but no longer may do so due to disgusting conditions. The girl behind the register never acknowledged me but by this point I decided to shop elsewhere for a cheesecake or desert platter because I would of been ashamed to show up with La Madeleine deserts for the event I was shopping for.
