The set up is confusing, why do I have to wait in the buffet line just to order food. The menu is confusing. And the food was disappointing, all pre made stuff. I couldn't decide what to eat for Mother's Day and remembered this restaurant. We drove a half hour to get here. The food was good. I got to my car and realized I forgot my phone at the table. By the time I went back to get it, a worker stole $40 that was tucked between my credit cards in my phone case. The manager offered to give me $40 from the register, but I refused. I pray for the person who stole the money. I would have given it to him if I knew he needed it. But he stole from me. Tonight, I pray for him. read more

The service here at La Madeleine was terrible and borderline discriminatory. Me and my mother chose our seats and set our things down, and approached the counter to order. We then ordered and paid to go back to our table and find that my bag was gone! We ask the staff and they are rude and dismissive. They don't give me a straight answer and I'm left wondering where all of my important items are. After moments of frustration and confusion the manager brings out my things and says with a snarky attitude "She stole it when she brought it to the back room." Haven't stopped to eat at this place in a long time and it was a breathe of fresh air to once again eat something different. The baked potato soup was great. We visited this location for dinner tonight and unfortunately had a concerning experience. While ordering, we watched two employees prepare salads directly in front of us. One employee was handling fresh bread with bare hands. Shortly after, that same employee helped prepare one of our salads -- again with no gloves and without washing her hands between tasks. The second employee preparing food was wearing only one glove at first, and later removed it entirely. We also observed employees moving between handling food and using the computer/register without washing their hands in between. We didn't want to make a scene in the moment, but it felt unsanitary and uncomfortable to watch. A few hours later, one of us became ill. While we cannot say with certainty that it was related, the food handling practices we observed did not inspire confidence. We hope management reviews food safety protocols and reinforces proper hygiene procedures with staff. read more

The food was decent. We got the turkey bistro with the field greens salad. The baguette should have been toasted properly. The mayo sauce was a very thick layer, too much for our taste. The field greens salad was made with pecans and cranberries. While enjoyable, it isn't served that way in other locations we frequent. The person who took the order was not friendly and appeared to have been either having a bad day or upset about something not having to do with us. I was quite surprised - every time had a meal or even a cup of soup or salad here before, it was always very good. But today- not so good! My husband ordered the chicken La madeleine, with broccoli & green beans. It looked good but once he cut into it, not sure if it was real chicken. The broccoli was good & green beans tasted old & all three were just slightly warm - closer to room temperature. I ordered cream of mushroom soup & the quiche florentine. Same situation with the temperature, especially the soup. The quiche must have been sitting under the heat lamp for a while. The soup had a great flavor but wasn't hot enough. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere relaxed (the open fireplace, in the middle of the dining room, gives a country feel), and the food is good... I especially like the complimentary bread and jam. Try dipping your croissant in the French onion soup! read more

It has been over two years since I said I would never go back, but I somehow hoped that things magically got better. NOT SO! I had lunch there yesterday and I have had many disappointing experiences in the past but yesterday I had the best iced tea I've ever had. Nothing wrong with the food itself, everyone liked what they got, but the service was horrible. I had never been here before and was unsure where to go to start the order, no workers were around or eager to help with my confusion. Finally found someone and it just gets worse. Management is blaming it on employees and has no sense of friendliness during any of the interaction. Food took forever and no one in the restaurant must communicate because when asked about the status of food orders some of the workers seemed confused about the fact that orders hadn't already been taken out. Some people in our party got their food quickly while others had to wait awhile cause apparently they had ordered things that would take a while, but were not told that upon ordering (if something isn't prepped and ready to go and is going to take 30 minutes to prepare vs the five minutes everything else takes you should probably inform someone of that upon ordering). Genuinely considered cutting my losses and leaving before I got my food since everyone else was done and I still hadn't received my food along with one other member of our party. I will be living close to this location for the next few months and don't intend on coming back with so many other options in the area. This was my first and last visit to la Madeleine. We went for lunch and boy, they are so severely understaffed. I got the café sampler with the French onion soup, chicken friand, and tomato basil pesto pasta salad. The soup was pretty good but that was the only redeeming part about this meal. The chicken friand, despite sitting under a heat lamp, wasn't hot. It wasn't even warm. Room temp - at best. The pasta salad had a very strange taste and after giving it a few sniffs I finally put my finger on it - it smelled exactly like nail polish remover. One of my kids got a quiche and it was mediocre and tasted like frozen spinach that had been thawed but not drained. We decided to give dessert a try but the staff at the bakery counter were so worried about packing to-go orders and helping make salads that we would've been standing there forever. I've been to this location many times while visiting the area. The food is good and love the atmosphere is very nice. This morning when I entered there was no one in line and only one table occupied and no employees in sight at the bakery area, in the cooking area nor at the resister to take orders. After about 5 minutes, someone came out to take my order. I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and double cappuccino. I had to ask them to heat the croissant and when they brought my cappuccino to me, it wasn't even lukewarm, I had to bring it back to them. I really like La Madeline and this location is great. It's near many shopping spots in Mandeville so if you're out shopping there it's easy to stop in and grab a bite. I always get the tomato basil soup. It's fantastic and very filling. The Chicken Friand is also very good...puff pastry filled with chicken and mushrooms and a topped with a really yummy mushroom sauce. La Madeline also has a bakery counter with a really nice selection of beautiful desserts...croissants, pastries, muffins, tarts and cookies. read more

I strongly like La Madeleine for the following reasons: super fast, buffet style food (mostly) , healthy options, vegetarian options, desserts are incredible! Now, the caveats: Small portions for $$, frequently change menu items- this can be a great thing or a real bummer . I will always return here regardless of the caveats. Outdoor seating is worth at least 3 stars to me! Was disappointed this morning when we went to breakfast. Service was good until I went to get a couple of slices of bread. Didn't notice until I sat down but two pieces of bread had MOLD. I had chosen the bread from the back of the case since I like ends and there were a couple of them in the back. This tells me they just load the bread from front to back. Yuck. How long does some of the bread sit there? We informed a manager and he did a quick check looking for any more. I know restaurants are having trouble getting help but this is not good quality control and unacceptable. Shame on you, la Madeleine. What other corners are you cutting? read more

I come here mainly for coffee. If I eat here it is usually salad or a piece of pastry. Food has been decent but the place is never clean! Tables are always stacked with dirty dishes and trays. There was nothing "wrong" with my visit like some of the other reviews (although, if I had read those first, I probably would not have come), but there was nothing particularly glowing, either. I ordered a seasonal item and was told they didn't have an element to make it and having my heart set on it I defaulted to the potato soup. The soup was gritty and bland I took two bites and was done. The other thing was all the available tables were dirty and not picked up at all. I received my order of soggy eggs an rancid avocado toast via Doordash in Mandeville. Tried calling to speak with a manager and to no avail....no answer. This is the absolute worst I have ever experienced. After 1 bite of the avocado toast, I became sick to my stomach (literally). According to doordash, I can't be refunded because they can find nothing wrong with the order - I have to assume they didn't comprehend the word RANCID!! Very unorganized the last time I went here. There is a SYSTEM to La Madeleine's and they just weren't using it for some reason. We were a bit confused once we got our food and sat down, but the food was good and I just LOVE the free toast and jelly. Also, the Mango tea is my favorite. Try the eggs Benedict for breakfast.. best I've ever had. La Madeleine had a lot of delicious looking options--I had a difficult time deciding, which is strange for a vegetarian in Louisiana. I ended up getting crepes with strawberries and a cinnamon sour creme sauce. The crepes were good, but I could have done with a little less sauce. My boyfriend had a very good Mediterranean pasta. Additionally, we sampled croissants and donuts for breakfast one morning, and I found all to be enjoyable. The service was quick and unobjectionable.
