We tried La Malquerida for the first time after seeing all the great reviews. The restaurant is clean, has a great ambiance, and the service and drinks were excellent. That said, the pricing was hard to justify. The Trompo al Pastor was $49 (portion is big enough to share, despite being described as per person), and the Barbacoa at $35 was decent but lacked depth of flavor and needed more seasoning. The $16 guacamole was also a surprisingly small portion for the price. We also ordered the Aguachile al Mango for $28, which sounded great but was almost inedible due to the extreme spice level. Overall, a nice atmosphere with strong cocktails, but the value just didn't match the cost for us. read more

We've been here a few times, and have enjoyed each visit. While I've enjoyed every meal, the standout for me is their rack of lamb, and I say this as someone who is generally not a fan of lamb. It's prepared perfectly and almost tastes like steak. First time here for a friend's birthday dinner. Arrived around 7p, a reservation had been made and we were taken immediately. It had a nice atmosphere and the service was great. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Ordered a few appetizers; ceviche, calamari and fish flautas . I only tried the calamari it was crispy and was good. A few drink favorites from the night were La toxica and old fashioned. There were 6 of us and 3 ordered the Fideo de mariscos which was enjoyed and got good reviews for flavor . 2 got the bistec alteno and I ordered the special of the night which el trompo, which was Al pastor served with charro beans , cilantro, onions , and salsa w tortillas. The meat was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Definitely enough to share , I brought home leftovers. Went last week and the plates were extremely unpleasant. The dish I was served was overloaded with pepper and spicy seasoning, I can handle heat. The taste was just unbalanced and the whole dish was basically inedible after a few bites. My girlfriend's seafood platter was very salty and overpowering. Will not return. read more

Honestly I was so excited about trying this restaurant. It had been on my list for a long time, once I finally went it was truly disappointing. The drinks were weak, they looked very cute but lacked flavor. The lamb chops were good, but very small for the price. The guacamole lacked seasoning. The best part were the drinks and the shot on the house we received! They knew how to make us happy. We ordered an old fashioned & peach tequila drink. Both incredible! The Old Fashioned had an orange peel engraved into the ice with smoke coming out of the glass, very creative. Toward the end of the night, they had a mariachi, which bought the energy up even higher! The first impression you get is wow. The place was really cute with the exposed brick and the neon signs and the fake ivy and plants all around. The servers are all wearing nice stripped shirts and the natural light this place has is really great. The silverware was like a rose gold and the cute starter plates contrasted very nicely. The service is great as soon as you walk in from the door. Our waiter was an older gentleman and was very welcoming and helpful. That's where all the good things end.... First of all, the food pricing was very concerning because it gives you very high expectations. You see the menu and you're like maybe this place is one of those pricey but yet life changing establishments. Not the case. Our bill was $122 for 2 main dishes, 1 appetizer, and 1 cocktail. We got the banderillas to start and were not blown away by this. The fries were very basic and not seasoned at all. McDonalds fries would have been better. The steak and shrimp skewers were a pain to eat because the food fused with the screwer. The steak was ok but I would have been nice to see more meat. I had 3 steak pieces and the smallest veggies. There was also only 2 shrimps on the other. For $18 I was expecting quantity or at least quality. Next up, my wife ordered the Mar y Tierra. The mashed potatoes were the star of the plate. The steak was asked to be medium well and we got extra well done. The top of her steak was dried out and hard. It was hard to see a fillet go to waste like that. The wild mushrooms were sautéed in oil and that's about it. The shrimps were tossed in a garlic butter and that's about it. For $50 my wife was not happy. She also ordered the house cocktail and thankfully she said it was good. I got the Barbacoa and regret it. The food was soo bland. The "green" rice was tasteless and kind of left your mouth dry. It was cooked all the way but very reheated vibes were given. The beans were soo sad. I'm Guatemalan and I know black beans and I can say these were the worst by far I've ever had. They were just mashed back beans. No garlic, onion or salt. It was offensive! The Barbacoa was served in a really nice Staub dish. It was garnished with red onion and day old cilantro. That's what it felt and tasted like. Once again the dish was under seasoned and disappointing. My wife and I are former Chicago residents and we wanted to find a spot that can host dinner for 12. The location needed to be ideally located for most and not having to pay for parking was a bonus. I trust my wife's judgement when she proposes restaurants. I go in with very few expectations, while she does her yelp " research". :) The restaurant has a nice low key feel. As you enter, the left side of the restaurant has the bar and the right side is where they can host large parties. The bar area also has tables to accommodate smaller parties. As we trickled in, the host escorted us to our table and the service began immediately at our request. They were gracious to sit us as we waited for the entire party. The food, drinks and service were top notch. The server was attentive and patient as we asked questions about the menu and about the restaurant. The drinks were delicious and complimented the food menu very well. The food was spectacular! While I didn't take photos of all of the dishes, they were as delicious and the presentation. As the night went on, we conversed with the server and turned out she was an owner of the restaurant. She was very genuine and welcoming. She also served us complimentary shots. La Malquerida is a beautiful Latin Fusion Restaurant/Bar located in Berwyn. The decor inside is impeccable. There is a small outdoor patio in the back. Inside has a full colorful bar, dine inside or carry out. We stopped here as a part of the Berwyn's Pub Crawl. There was a special discount menu for this event. We wanted to dine here but they were only serving the special food item. So, we just decide to order a few drinks. Friendly and great hospitality. I fell in love with the decor. Decided to try this place because I kept seeing videos on Instagram about how great the food was and I was not dissapointed. We had the trio sopes app which was amazing. The pork taco and pineapple special which also was amazing. My husband had the filet,shrimp and mash and although he said it was great it looked much smaller than the video we saw online. A must try, I took the family there for Friday night dinner and we all loved it. We tried the Sopecitos, Gucamole, and ceviche de pescado as appetizers. They were all demolished, the guacamole and ceviche were both very tasty and fresh. Dinner we had the Marlin, Bistec Alteño, and the Rib Eye. Everything was cooked perfectly, my wife loved the Marlin and the Bistec was sooooo good. The Rib eye was also delicious. For drinks we had La Tóxica, La Doña, and the Old Fashion. Loved all of them and want to go back to try the rest. The bar is beautiful and the decor is very trendy. Loved the city atmosphere but right in Berwyn. We had 6 adults and 2 kids and it was over $350 and none of us drink. Our waiter was nice but not very attentive to the needs of the table which attributed to the subpar rating of this restaurant. I am glad to see something different in a Mexican food restaurant. Many people of non-Mexican decent assume that Mexican food is only fast food, ie. tacos, tortas, burritos...Mexico is such a large and diverse country with influences from many other countries on its culinary scene. We also ordered the Guac, which is super unique and tasty. For our meals we ordered the Fish Flautas and the Barbacoa.
