Two scoops: fig on the top, pistachio on the bottom
    Masanori D.

This is one of the two gelaterias that our hotel concierge recommended (the other being Gelateria Nico). I had the pistachio, the concierge's favorite, and the fig. The pistachio was really good, but I would not say it was amazing. The fig tasted like real figs. If you like figs, you would probably love it. The pricing was reasonable: 2 Euro for 1 scoop and 3 Euro for 2 scoops. Overall, I am very happy with my experience here, but they did not blow me away. So, I would probably not come back. There are many other gelaterias to try in Venice. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. It was a bit hard to find the first day, on day two... as we were looking we stumbled upon it. It is quite close to the square. My goodness this was delicious ... . so delicious. If we had more than two days we would have gladly gone EACH day. The woman working the shop, talked with us for almost and hour. but luckily we had no wait - (keep in mind it was raining, a lot, like we need to buy rain boots that day) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AS AN ABSOLUTE MUST!

Going one step further than even the best of its competitors by making everything including fresh cream on-site daily, La Mela Verde at Castello 4977 embraces Slow Food ethics with a focus on seasonally inspired fruit choices alongside all the classic flavors found at Geaterias throughout Venice, the space itself almost claustrophobic in its closeness with a tall freezer-case offering the day's 16 varieties served in cubs, bowls, cones and freshly made crepes. Staffed by just one young woman, another similarly aged person barely visible at the back of the shop where many modern machines reside, it was just prior to 17h00 that our group of four entered the artisan shop beneath the sounds of overhead pop music, a few samples of flavors including Peach and the Cinnamon-soaked Byblos showing the base to be perhaps the most creamy in the Floating City with flavors that are quite intense. Eventually opting for another foursome, €1 added to the €4,50 cost by putting it on a housemade cone that was supporting but malleable to the tooth, one would have to think long and hard to recall a more natural Pistachio than the grey-green paline, a fact no less true when considering the toasty taste of Hazelnut while veins of crunchy Chocolate coursed through Fior di Latte in Stracciatella and crumbles freckled the Biscotto's Anise-scented Almond Cookie base.

Excellent!! Different flavors every day. Cheap and good gelato. Went twice in my tree day visit!

I had such a hard time deciding which flavor to choose but ended up with Amareno (cherry). It was soooo good and I loved the cherry pieces in it. Sadly, my gelato was melting so fast, I had to eat it really quick :(

We loved our Gelato from La Mela Verde. I got the pistachio and my husband got pear. You can tell they use fresh ingredients not artificial flavoring in their Gelato. Give it a try!

Location in relation to San Marco. Don't trust Apple Maps.

But came back the next day for some Cicchetti next door (Vino Vero). But this time a lot less visitors, so we decided to try some of their gelato. And what a fantastic gelato place this turned out to be! Lots of wonderful flavors. All the classic and some more adventurous ones. We went for the Tiramisu and the Amarena (sour cherries). The gelato has a perfect texture. Very rich, very creamy. Nice flavors, the Amarena not too sweet and not too sour. The Tiramisu a perfect choice if you feel like some Tiramisu, but also feel like some ice cream. It was nice to sit at the canal enjoying the ice cream. Staff was friendly, prices for the quality really fair.

I made it a point to visit Bacaro del Gelato in the Cannaregio district, and it was easily one of the best food decisions of the journey. Their small-batch menu features incredible artisanal offerings, ranging from a refreshing lemon sorbet to their famous, rich Cremino al Pistacchio. While every flavor my group tried was fantastic, the classic chocolate was my absolute favorite. It was incredibly smooth, deep, and perfectly balanced.

The dark chocolate, oh my god, I could just eat it every day for the rest of my life. My grandchildren had the chocolate chip, the lemon and the coconut and couldn't get enough (as well as the dark chocolate)! I also had the pistachio and it was just as amazing! This is most definitely a five-star establishment, but a certain rude employee brought it down. For the first four times I went there (3 in one day!) the man working allowed me to pay for two of the larger cups (2-2 scoops) instead of four small ones. It saved me almost a Euro which was very nice of him. When I went back the fifth time I was charged individually even after telling the person how I was charged before. He was rude and unhelpful and wouldn't allow me to do that same thing and I didn't go back after that, unfortunately. I hope that you won't let one crappy employee keep you from enjoying this treasure, I just couldn't bring myself to go back after that kind of service.
