I came in with a friend on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The decor and vibe of restaurant was great but the food and service left us unimpressed. The server dropped the water at the table and didn't offer to serve it although the restaurant was empty. We requested the signature croquettes that are $9 but were told they did not have any ready at the moment. For $9 they should be making them fresh, I'm not paying bakery prices. All that were available were regular ham croquettes which were much like any other one that you could get in Miami. The mariquitas were either burnt or soggy. The churrasco tostones were very good and big enough to share with three people. For main course we had the churrasco with white rice and an egg on top. The menu said it would be served with spicy ketchup which didn't come on the plate. When I asked for it, the server brought over a regular bottle of Heinz ketchup. Honestly, I expected more from this neighborhood restaurant especially since their dishes are pricier than most Cuban restaurants in the area. If you want a cute spot for social media posts, then this is your spot. But, if you want a good meal that's worth the buck, just stick to Sergio's or Isla Canarias. read more

First time I ever go to brunch and boy was it amazing. Started off with the obvious endless mimosas. Ordered the croqueta crabcake delicious is an understatement. Then got the chicken and waffle amazing. We also tried the bacon wrapped maduros delicious. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is very nice. Our glasses were never empty. I have been reading both good and bad reviews on La Mesa and to be honest, I like to make my own opinion. Let me now say, I am leaning more towards to negative lol. Upon arrival in these "new normal" times, we entered into an empty restaurant. Our waitress, Kimberly, was dry and unfriendly. Her overall demeanor was of someone who did not want to be working. She did not recommend any entrees, though there was but one other party in the restaurant she was not attentive and even beneath a mask there was a scowl on her face. Overall a bad experience with customer service. The gratuity of 20% was already included in our bill and with that being so it usually gives the waiter/waitress the notion that tip is already included so they can give mediocre service. The food was subpar and french fries that accompanied the omelette were given cold. The chicken in the chicken and waffles was overly salty and the salad was sad. The best thing was the price for mimosas and the company I was with. For a party of five, we were all in agreement that La Mesa was not a location we would be revisiting. read more

Was excited about a new place, walked in and loved the decor with a super cute waiting area. Unfortunately, the good experience ended there. I ordered the Arroz con Huevos, which was rice with an egg and a churrasco. The steak was dry and tough even though I had it cooked to medium. I had to ask for chimichurri because it came plain. My cousin ordered the shrimp and chorizo dish, it was a small bowl with a few shrimp and a couple of pieces of chorizo..$27. and he was as hungry when he finished as when we got there, ridiculous serving size. My husband ordered the vaca frita dish and was unhappy with how it looked when it came out. He didn't even touch it and asked if he could change it for another Dosh because it was not what he expected. He was told no by the manager because he wouldn't be able to do anything with his dish. This manager needs a 101 on customer satisfaction! For $15. he lost a table of 5 that will never return. Especially, when you have just opened and should want to show that you are there for customers to be satisfied. Our waitress was great and we assured her it was not her decision, it's not her fault that the manager is not wise. read more

This is a new restaurant in Coral Way and 89th Avenue. I went 3 times and I agree the tamal with pork was AWESOME and the prices were affordable to go multiple times in a week. However, I visited yesterday and they changed the chef, the menu, and raised the prices, and they haven't even inaugurated the restaurant yet! The food wasn't as good and forget about the black bean puree with the mariquitas. Now, the mariquitas are not as well fried and its with a mayo sauce. I gave it 2 stars because the servers are good. read more

Good service. Horrible food. The place was empty when we walked in, which should've been a sign. The server originally told us they were out of croquetas, but then the cook came out screaming they suddenly had some???The ceviche is a joke, six pieces of chewy shrimp. I never leave reviews but I honestly felt like I had it was my duty to inform others on my experience. First we made reservations and paid for the show in advance it was a party of six. Once we arrived we parked in the shopping center and was immediately approached by a man in street clothes saying it was $10 to park when there's a sign saying it's free parking or $10 for vip. I stated we are parked in a regular parking not one of the coned ones and he stated the free parking is in the back. I have never had to put for parking in a shopping center in westchester we went inside and the manager said it was okay and we didn't have to pay to park only the coned off area. The food was your typical Cuban food nothing out of the ordinary but over priced for the area. Tip was already included (about 18%) when the bill came but it was labeled as a service charge and tip is additional. When spoken to management they just kept saying no it's okay don't worry but would not really listen to concerns or take constructive criticism just dismissive. read more

The food is good got to give it to the chef but service is not good. We had a large group but was pre planned and they just didnt have the personnel to serve us. Food is important but service is too. The person in charge of party planning was unapologetic and cant control how many people walk into the restaurant. After a long period of quarantine my partner and I decided to go out for the first time with a couple of friends and they suggested La Mesa since they had been there before and had a wonderful time. Once there the ambience was great and welcoming. All the social distancing measures were being implemented and the live music show really made us enjoy ourselves for the first time out. Amanda was our server and her customer service and attention alone would make me and my partner go back anytime. It is rare to find such good treatment in restaurant now days. horrible service!!!!! worst service ever! i went with some family members to have dinner and they sat us on a table that was reserved, but no one told us it was reserved. after dinner we wanted to stay to have a few more drinks and they said they couldn't give us any more drinks because the table was reserved so they literally kicked us out of the restaurant. they didnt ever asked us if we wanted another table or nothing. 3 different servers came to our table to let us know that the table was reserved and we had to go. the manager doesnt know what he is doing. the worst experience ever read more

We were looking a new place to try for my mother in law's birthday. We decided to give this place a try after looking at pics of the menu and the place which looked pretty good. It was just 6 of us so we didn't call ahead to make reservations, plus it was kinda early for dinner so we figured there would be no need. As soon as we got there the hostess asked if we had reservations, no welcome, hello, or anything sort of friendly greeting. I said no, we are a party of 6. She made a face and said well let me ask because we are only taking people with reservations. Let me add that the place was almost completely empty. There were maybe about 1/10 occupied. I guess they are not in need of business because at this point we decided to just leave as we can already see the service here is no good. They really need to find a friendly face to be the one who greets and welcomes paying customers instead of turning them away. Give me a break this is by no means in a super fancy classy area of Miami...why would anyone even think you must have reservations to dine here. read more

Wonderful Experience! We were very skeptical to make our company happy hour of 35 guest due to the reviews on bad service. I personally went one day on my own to see the place and try their food to make sure it would be what we expected. I was very happy with the beautiful interior decoration, the food were big portions and cooked perfectly. The prices were also very affordable. We went ahead and reserved our happy hour. I highly suggest to make reservations in advance and call again a couple of days before to make sure your reservations are confirmed. It is a small venue and they fill up to capacity quickly. We had an AMAZING, FUN, and SUCCESSFUL EVENT. We were assigned a server and bus boy just for our party. I highly recommend Dessarei. She handled our group of 35 with perfection. She was on top of every detail. The food came out timely for such a large group and everyone raved about it! I was very surprised that of a group of 35 there were no mistakes on the orders. Everyone got exactly what they ordered. Their Friday band was Amazing. Our guest definitely danced the night away we even did a conga line around our table! The next day many of our co-workers called me to say how much they enjoyed La Mesa. I highly recommend this venue you will not be disappointed. read more

First time coming here. Right off the bat after parking, there's a shady guy in the shopping plaza demanding $10 dollars for parking. Firstly, there's a huge sign that says, " free parking VIP parking $10". So we ask and tell him we don't want VIP parking, we can park our car ourselves and walk the 200 feet that is from our car to the restaurant. The guy starts rambling that we have to pay $20 to park there and $10 to park past the stop sign somewhere in the back. Super confused, I tell him I am going inside to ask the manager since what the sign says and what I am being told do not add up. The manager gives us the run around, making it seem like parking pass the cones is free and it shouldn't be a problem. We express out concerns and advise that the parking guy was trying to pocket an extra $10 bucks for parking, didn't really care and just said that he will talk to him about it and fire him. Unfortunately one of my friends did pay for parking, and the parking left their keys IN THEIR CAR THE WHOLE TIME. Additionally I paid $10 for the show whom only performed like 20 minutes and it was horrible. Don't waste your time or money in this place. Its tiny, the food is overpriced and sub par. I can get a better meal at FINKA table and tap for half the price. Between the overpriced food, horrible performance, and charging people shady prices for parking, these people will not be getting my business ever again. read more

It was not worth it at all. Save your time and money and go to Tap 42 or Copper Blues for brunch. The service was absolutely horrible. The server was barely at the table and there was a 20% tip included regardless of the size of the group. The bottomless mimosas were $20 per person and were 99% orange juice. The fried eggs in my breakfast bowl were cold and the food itself was very plain for $14. The parking spots in front of the restaurant are blocked off with cones forcing you to pay $5 for valet even though you can park yourself. The woman's restroom was very poorly made. The stalls were so small I couldn't even bend my knees to use the toilet and I'm only 5'1 and the sewage system was broken meaning the whole restroom smelled horrible. The worst part of the experience though was when a server brought a plate out to someone in my table (she had ordered about 2 minutes prior so she asked to confirm it really was her food and the server left it on the table) and then took it away from her and gave it to another table. Not only is that completely unsanitary, it is super unprofessional. The decor and the music were the only nice parts of the whole experience. read more

Sometimes when you hype up a place the disappointment hurts even more. We had a party of about 16 with 6 of them being kids. To me service is key no matter how many IG wall you have and how amazing the food is. It all gets brought down by the horrible horrible service. We got there (I did at 1045 and my first guest at 11) the kids did not get their food til closer to 1230 (pancakes) and one did not get fries and bacon til almost 1 . We had to chase the waiter to bring all the other guests their food and drinks. Everyone ate at different times as the"kitchen was backed up " and the "waitress was doing others jobs and not her own". The entertainment did not start til closer to 130. The manager had to come in and "try " to save the day by gifting us the cake but that was all . I feel that he did not so enough to salvage the day To top off the horrible service we all got charged a service fee. Everyone can open a restaurant but not everyone can guarantee returning guest . la mesa will not have 16 guess returning. read more
