Found this place while on vacation. My travel buddy, a native Nicaraguan brought us here as she was craving traditional food. This was my first time ever eating Nicaraguan food and I loved every flavor on my plate. The food was super tasty and their assorted sauces were delicious and truly elevated every bite. We had the carne asada; me a Mexican-American must be clear that this carne asada was different than what I am used to, but was very pleased. The tajadas ( slices of fried plantain) were crisp to perfection and the tostones ( fried plantain patties ) amazingly crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. I would recommend this place. And while there, try the Maracuya drink. The only thing I did not like is the service. They were nice but kind of forgot about making rounds to see if we needed anything & the restaurant maybe had 7 patrons & they add the tip amount to our bill. Selva Negra used to be Los Ranchos, and while the new decor is beautiful and modern, the overall experience didn't live up to the look. We were only offered Saratoga bottled water, but noticed other tables getting regular water later on. I asked for ice twice and never received it. Service felt a bit off--one waitress asked if we wanted the check, then told us we'd have to wait because the other girl was busy with a big party. When she finally brought the bill, she said, "Oops, I forgot to charge you for the water--I better go back before the owner gets mad." It just felt unprofessional. The food was underwhelming. The steak was thin, the ensalada de repollo had no flavor, and the tostones were bland and unsalted. I'd honestly prefer to go to Fritanga Monimbó where the food is much more authentic and satisfying. And while I don't mind paying a dollar, being charged $1 for each to-go container without a heads-up just caught me by surprise. The employees at this restaurant are very friendly and helpful. Kwamy and the Manager Freddy were amazingly great in customer service. I would like to give 4 stars but I'll explain what it is 3. We had a family lunch in a busy Sunday afternoon. Table of 7. We ordered several dishes, and 6 pitchers of sangria. The service needs some attention. Our sever was friendly but not attentive. We often couldn't find her so we had to ask 3 other servers walking around for food, water, napkins, etc. the food was almost perfect. All meat was cooked properly and seasoned well. The only issue was the ceviche which lacked acidity and salt. It was bland, tasted like absolutely nothing. I would still recommend Selva Negra for Greta meats and sides, just don't order ceviche. read more

I wanted to place an order of the Nicaraguan platter as I didn't want to cook on December 31st. What a big disappointment it was to place an order from this place. First this platter came with food that typically Nicaraguan platters don't come with. The platter is described as Grilled steak, blood sausage, grilled pork, sausage, green plantains, refried beans with sour cream, chicken tacos, sweet plantains, fried pork with yucca, fried cheese, corn tortilla and cole slaw. Well it came with rice and beans not with refried beans, also it came with chicken wings never have I seen that in any Nicaraguan platter, and I've been to the best here in Miami which is El Madroño, Pinolandia and Guayacan. I place the order here because it was the only place taking orders and now I know why. The worst Nicaraguan Platter. Meat was so hard, nothing had any flavor. Never again ordering from this place. Epic experience at Selva Negra restaurant on Flagler and 107 ave. It's a great fusion between Nicaraguan and Peruvian cuisine with a pleasant ambiance. Our server Alejandro was attentive and friendly. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and as entree a churasco, arroz chaufa, fried shrimp and filet mignon. Everything was fresh and delicious, perfect serving sizes . For dessert we ordered a pio quinto and espresso. The pio quinto was authentic and had the correct balance of cake to custard and not too sweet. The piece was big enough for 4 people to share. We will definitely be visiting again. read more

This is something else after the pandemic. The price increase goes with lower quality meals. Ordered the fillet mignon, parrilla for one, several churrascos (medium but they were all brought awfully well done) and kid food. Everything just... bland. Tres leches tastes old and the flan they somehow managed to make it dusty dry. Sangria is watered down. I usually refer this place as one of the few Nicaraguan places in Miami, to people when they visit town because there's no many Nicaraguan restaurants near Miami Beach area. I go myself once in a while and despite the food not being great I get a very nice experience in service with Nubia as she's a great server and takes good care of me. In fact if she's not there I already know in shouldn't have high expectations about the service. The food and quality for service is not very authentic for a Nicaraguan place. The food takes too long and is not really fresh sometimes I'd much rather tell people about some take out places in which food is being cooked Right there and you don't have to pay extra or a percentage for gratuity for such bad service and inconsistency in the quality of the food that is a little overpriced for what we call fritanga in Nicaragua. I was there last night. We have to go in and ask them if they were still open at 9:30pm because the "OPEN" sign was off and most lights were off. They said they were open, so we proceed to get off the car and grab a table. As usual I have my dog with me and my little baby and couple of friends. Some guy who I never seen before who I supposed was the manager on duty said the people who own the place and people who come to the restaurant might not like dogs. I told him I have brought my dog before while owner was there and explained to him I have the documents for service and he just kept saying he didn't know and he needed to make a call to ask because obviously he doesn't really know if they take pets or not. He Made a quick call and came back to me and said "I'm sorry yes, the owners don't like dogs" So I guess last night when they were trying to shut down the place which is supposed to be open they decided to refuse service because the owners don't like dogs even they have let me in with my dog before. Ok you call it whatever you like but I call it unprofessional and Inconsistent. Way below the standard of service of any establishment. One day you accept a dog and another day you refuse a dog that happen to be a service animal as well because "the owner doesn't like dogs" today and by coincidence you are trying to close because there's not people in the restaurant. I said "No worries" and walked out. I went to next place with good food and enjoyed friendly faces with better attitude who are aware of the law and didn't refuse service because didn't feel like working. I'm in same industry as well and feel bad for the owners who don't take their time to train their employees on service and basic standards to keep their places in business. That explains why they were empty and trying to shut the place around 9pm For bad service and discriminatory treatment I would've stayed in the touristy area in south beach but even they know better and are aware of and train their employees to understand the needs of customers with service animals The only entity allowed to decide if an animal is truly a service dog is a judge in a courtroom. Refusing service and/or being rude to a service Dog and handler is not only unprofessional behavior, but it is illegal at both state and federal levels. Google it people! That's why I definitely like dogs better than most people. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed of this place. I'm not coming back here or referring people to have a bad experience. read more

Not sure where to start... this place was recommend to us by someone at the front desk of our hotel. Described the portions as exaggerated, but that is putting it mildly. The enormous amount of food did not disappoint! From the tostones appetizer to the mixed grill for 2, we were blown away. If only we could have eaten it all, but there was no way! It's a Thursday afternoon and I'm starved at work and feeling bored with my usual delivery options. I come across the restaurant on 24Eats and see they have pretty decent options for nomz time. I ordered a shrimp soup and Ceviche. The pricing is was just right for these items. Not the cheapest but also not the most expensive that I've experienced. Delivery did take about an hour to get here, but the delivery time posted was true to wait time so I can't get too upset at that. Now comes the flavor of my food... Which was just PERFECT. The ceviche brought long mariquitas which were perfectly crunchy and delicious. The ceviche was cut to perfection and the sauce was absolutely delectable. It also brought a bunch of onions which I loooove. The soup had rice and an arepa on the side. So for $10 I was able to share with 3 other people at work. The broth of the soup was sooooo good. Perfect for a cold day and it didn't feel empalagoso. The second time when I ordered everything went a bit down hill. The food I received was not what I expected and there were communication issues that occurred with the online ordering. The restaurant tried to rectify the situation.... But when it comes down to flavor: the taste of what I received was so off I'm a bit discouraged to order from this place again. The chicken I ordered was swimming in grease and had an off seasoning to the grease broth to it... If it didn't look and taste like a sopa de pollo it would have been fine. I think they used a hint of a curry seasoning which tasted ok. The fish was also greasy so I only had a spoonful of it. The fries had no seasoning and no ketchup to help me swallow it down... The only good thing that I had ordered were the mashed potatoes and refried beans. I'm compelled to remove a couple of stars, but as mentioned the restaurant tried to fix the mix up. which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 2.
