My husband is from Cali and is a hard food critic when it comes to mexican food. He loved the al pastor and the chorizo tacos. They also gave us a free slice of cake that was delicious and I could have drank the strawberry agua fresca in one sitting. I gave 4 stars because my chicken quesadilla did not compare to the one we always eat in Cali and the carne asada could have used a better marinade. This is the second La Mexicana store, the other being on Rt. 13 in Bristol, PA. It is smaller than it sister, and without a dining area to enjoy an authentic Mexican meal. Aside from that shortcoming, it has two aisles full of Real Mexico - foods, kitchen supplies and even a few pieces of clothing, all manufactured South of the Border for the local population. This part of Bensalem and southern Bucks has the largest representation of Chicano culture, and if you explore a bit you can find tiendas mas grandes, y excellent restaurants very nearby to fill your cupboard and belly. I stopped in hoping their was a kitchen and dining area here, but finding none I was happy to buy some chorizo for our breakfasts at home. Truly authentic Mexican food in Bristol PA. This place is so easy to miss, as it's in the back of a small Mexican grocery store. As you pass through the store, you can tell it's authentic. Once in back, there are three tables and a deli-type counter. You order by number with maybe 10 choices. My favorite is the chicken tacos that come three to an order with nicely seasoned chicken, cilantro and onion. The salsa verde is a wonderful compliment. The chicken quesadillas are also fantastic with such good queso cheese. Come git you some, just don't tell others. Great little joint that you'll want to keep to yourself. read more

Great gem! I ordered a carne asada platter that comes with rice, beans, salad and hot tortillas and it was amazing. It was so good that it would have been disrespectful to eat with a fork and knife. I moved to Burlington county from Monmouth and I've been having a hard time finding really good food. There's a lot of decent food but not alot of great food. I have had the same problem when it comes to Mexican food out here. Lots of good options but nothing great...until now. This place is amazing. I went simple and had the carnitas tacos and a quesadilla. Even something simple like that was incredible. The place is part of a small market and they carry a lot of authentic Mexican items that you're just not going to find at your local ShopRite which is nice as well. The staff doesn't speak much English but they were all very friendly which was nice as well. Definitely make this place somewhere you stop to eat if you're craving some really good Mexican food. Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of the toppings that are usually included on authentic Mexican tacos. I'm a huge lover of sour cream and although it isn't traditional on a lot of food, I absolutely love the flavor and creaminess that it brings to so many dishes, especially Latino food. The restaurant in the back of this Mexican grocery is one place that I've been wanting to go to for a while. The first time I went several months ago, I was met with closed doors because the hours listed on Google are not accurate. I came far too late. When I finally made it in today, I was astounded by the incredibly wide range of Mexican items they had at the grocery. It's awesome to find a place like this in Bristol. I ordered a set of 3 tacos el pastor and a set of 3 tacos carne asada. I didn't sit in as I knew I'd prefer to eat them in the comfort of my own home. Upon getting home, I added all included toppings to the tacos, but used my own sour cream. I first, however, took a bite before adding my own sour cream. The tacos were quite good, I'd say a solid 3.5/5. I only wished for the meat to be a bit more on the juicier side than the drier side. Adding the sour cream made the tacos a 4/5. The service was prompt and friendly. And of course, my mango Jarritos was a delicious addition to the food. I enjoyed going there and I'd love to go back at some point to really comb through the grocery portion of the place and see what good finds I can discover. I was so thrilled to find this Mexican grocery store! Trying to find certain Mexican products in my area is like trying to nail jelly to a tree! Especially when it comes to making chili and needing the right peppers and adobo sauce. I literally look for certain products I need when traveling, just to stock up and have them on hand, but I don't need to do that anymore! The store is jam packed with rows and rows of anything Mexican you need, fresh peppers galore, huge jalapenos, dried peppers and peppers in you name it, be it jelly or hot sauce. Baked goods, candy, drinks, tortilla chips and corn or flour tortillas. They have a small deli area and I zeroed in on chorizo sausages, along with this I bought fresh peppers, pinto beans, refried beans, corn and flour tortillas, a four pound bag of maseca and lots of cans of chipolte peppers in adobo sauce! I know I'm hot and spicy already, but what's a little extra heat? The front parking lot will look empty, but they have the front door locked with a sign asking you to enter around back where you will find another parking area quite full. Let me start by saying that I am from California and know what amazing Mexican food is. I recently moved to PA and have been on the hunt for authentic Mexican food. I had a hard time finding La Mexicana but I was in a mission so I eventually found it. I used the address 224 Bristol Pike, Bristol PA. Not the address listed. Once I did that I found it just fine. Onto the review: I called ahead to double check that they were still in business and to see if they had a specific product I was looking for. I immediately was hung up on after asking my question. I tried calling 2 more times and they picked the phone up and hung up without saying a word. I decided I would just drive over there and see if I could find what I was looking for because calling was no help. I decided I would try food while I was there since I had been craving tacos for 5 months. I only tried the carne asada tacos this time as I was in a hurry but the were amazing. Definitely authentic which is what I was looking for. As far as food goes I would give them a 5. Their customer service on the phone leaves a lot to be desired. If there had been another Mexican grocery place within 20 miles of me I probably would have gone there instead just because of that. read more

La Mexicana is one of those half Mexican grocery half restaurant places. I've been here a couple times now and the food has been pretty delicious. So far I've tried the tacos and tostadas. The staff here is also very friendly. They have a pretty varied menu which will definitely give you a tough time deciding what to have if you've never been. The food was amazing it was literally inhaled in less than five minutes that's how amazing it was. I wish I could give more stars honestly. The people there are super friendly too and I love that i can find some of the groceries I can't find anywhere else in there. This is definitely a hole in the wall kind of place! But at last I found this place and after ordering some tacos de asada and a burrito de asada, I must say it was amazing. Just like home. I will be a regular from here on out. Ok, let me start by saying that I have worked in Bristol for over 20 years, thought I knew everyplace to eat within a ten mile radius, how I missed this place I have no idea, it is located in the back of a Mexican Market, very easy to miss, even when you actually walk in the market!! Did a yelp search looking for something different and this place popped up, having lived in Arizona for a bit back in the day, I truly miss those street tacos and little Mom and Pop Bodegas that always seemed to have the best Tacos or Tortas you ever had, found some close on the east coast, some really good, but this place was perfect, thought I was back down by border. I am guessing literally a mom and pop shop, very little English, order off the picture menu, as I wanted one of each, I settled for 2, El Pastore tacos and a Carnitas torta, plan was sample them both and save the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Guess what, nothings left. Housed those suckers down with out breaking a sweat. Actually did sweat, as there sauces are perfect as well, get a verde and some sort of hot rosa sauce, so yeah, I sweated a little. You know this place is good just by the clientele, I was the only gringo in there, I hung around for about 20 minutes checking out the market and all the cool stuff they have, everyone that walked in was Spanish blue collar, stopping in for a quick lunch. That tells you something. I ordered off the lunch menu, which is basically the entree, no sides, and they have a Platter menu that has rice and beans or various other sides, going to try that tomorrow!!! Don't pass it up, and don't judge a book by its cover. If you want real Mexican street food, this is it. Amazes me that the Taco Bell around the corner has any customers, but I am sure that is because the bulk of TB's customers don't know real Mexican food, and the ones that do, don't know this place is here. read more

Great little spot for tacos. It's a little quirky of a location and you have to walk through a convenient store to get to the restaurant area. Ordered the beef and chicken tacos, very good. Everything was fresh, good portion size and prices. The food took a little while to come out, it was a little busy and they only had one person in the kitchen and one at the counter. Overall it's a great spot for lunch or dinner. Service was friendly. The dining area is a little on the small side so takeout might be best. Plenty of parking! read more

I have been coming here for a couple of years now and am a huge fan of this place. The food is always authentic, delicious, and generously portioned. The prices are reasonable as well. I have tried many of their dishes and can heartily recommend the burritos, gorditas, the various tacos, their steaks, and their soups. I try to order something different every time I go and always leave satisfied. However yesterday I tried the chicken enchiladas for the first time and, while the food here is always good and my expectations here always high, those enchiladas still managed to blow my mind. They came covered with a salsa verde, shredded lettuce, crema, and Mexican cheese (cojita I assume) and boy were they tasty. The salsa in particular was delicious and noticeably piquant. I have been thinking of those enchiladas ever since. I am not sure if I will ever be able to order anything else there again. read more

This is a fantastic, low-key taqueria near the intersection of Bath Road and Route 13 (the map above is wrong). In fact, this may be the only place near Levittown PA to get complex and authentic Mexican food. (There is one other place a little further away on Street Road) The cafe part was enlarged in a recent remodel so it looks like a real sit-down place that happens to be next door and connected to a grocery and trinkets shop. My chicken burrito and sides were extremely tasty and the ingredients tasted fresh. The takeout order took a while but that is a good thing in taquerias. The clerk spoke very little English; also a good sign. The shop side carries a line of various Mexican sodas including real Coca-Cola as well as several lines of Mexican candy. If you live or work in the Fairless Hills/Falls/Levittown area, drive a tiny bit further down Route 13 for this place -- it is wayyyy better than the Cancun place near the Oxford Valley Mall. The biggest downside to this place is the sometimes inconvenient location near the Golden Eagle jughandle, which you have to take if you want to head south on 13 from this place. read more

I was craving authentic tamales and went here on the advice of a friend who was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico. I bought some of the tamales de pollo and some tamales de queso and they were as good or better then I remember getting in Mexico! I wanted to get chicken and pork but they were out of the pork. I was a little disappointed when I had to get the cheese but they turned out to be incredible. There were roasted peppers in with the cheese which made for a perfect combination. The chicken was shredded and nicely spiced. They were fresh, filling and tasty and I will be going back to try other dishes. I saw negative reviews that the place is 'sort of shabby' and the employees don't speak English. While this may be true, it that won't stop me from going back for more excellent and authentic Mexican food, and I hope it does not stop you, either! read more

I just got back from Denver, CO and there were a lot of authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants out there... I searched for something similar in the Levittown area and found this place. It's a supermarket AND a restaurant... sweet. The food kicks taco bell's ass and is reasonably priced too. You should go there and buy stuff from them so they stay in business. This way when I want a taco from there, they aren't closed and I can eat my tacos. read more

This place is amazing. In the middle of Bristol Pennsylvania is this legit Mexican food place. Lived in California and I have looked for a authentic tacos and I found them here at La Mexicana. Been ordering here for 2 years now. Found it by accident after searching for months after we moved here. I came here the other night but they were closed I was so sad lol I look like a lost Chinese kid lol. I love everything from their tacos. Sopas and I love the grilled napoles. Add it to a salsa it's so delicious. The staff and crew are so down to earth as well. Highly recommended. They also have a store with lots of goodies. And a quick amazing moment to share. The other night when I walked in and their kitchen was close. I saw all the people who worked their seating in one long table eating like family. Though they were close and I was sad not getting their on time to get my Mexican food fix. I see how simple yet family oriented they were. I highly recommend this place. read more
