Hmm...I really wanted to love this local place and add it to our top10 as we really don't have a local Mexican restaurant in Newtown. But pretty sure it is a once and done for me. Apparently new owners and a tweaked menu since July 2025. Only one vague review which wasn't very helpful so we did not know what to expect and excited to try. Eight of us for Friday lunch in a pretty empty restaurant. Nice atmosphere with outside patio seating. Patio faces the patio of PJ Whelihan's which had a big lunch crowd. On to the food...most everyone ordered the tacos. Some choices were a hit (honey shrimp and salmon tacos) and some were not...pulled pork was too dry and a shrimp taco too spicy. I ordered the fiesta bowl with added salmon and cauliflower rice. Glad to have a healthy choice. I "think" it could have been good...however, I kept pulling un-edible stringy scalions out of my mouth which took away from my enjoyment and grossed me out. (I attached a picture). I also was not able to concentrate on our conversation bc I was focused on getting them all out of my bowl and my mouth...there were a lot! I showed it to our server who didn't seem to care. I tried to be helpful and suggested he show it to the chef since it was very disgusting and added nothing to the taste. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to eat those nasty scalions. On a good note, my salmon was good. I can see this being a popular place for a young customer...those who like Taco Bell. After re-reading my own review...I deducted a star. I've been here 10-12 times before, but not in about a year. The food used to be great, and the staff still is -- everyone was very friendly and nice today. That said, the food has definitely gone downhill. I'm not someone who sends food back, but my wife's al pastor taco literally had almost no meat in it. She asked for more, and when it came back it tasted bad enough that she couldn't eat it. I ordered the piggy taco, shrimp taco, and Nashville hot. The shrimp was rock solid, the piggy taco was just bad, and while the Nashville hot was decent, everything was cold except for the rice and beans. We got the chicken nachos which were delicious, we ordered two tacos each our favorite was the salmon as the fried fish tacos didn't have that much flavor and would be better without the mango pieces, the drinks were solid, and the churros were delicious. There were multiple waiters/waitresses who brought our food so it was efficient. I've been to this restaurant once before, and I completely forgot the name of it but I was dreaming about the tacos since then. Today I happened to pass by since we had to go to Pennsylvania. The restaurant atmosphere is nice and open, it's spacious and clean. We had the chips and salsa and cowboy fries to start. You get a choice of the salsa, we chose a mild one--fire roasted tomato salsa. The chips are really good and fresh. I thought it was interesting how they added taro chips as well. The salsa was good, but it wasn't super flavorful. If you want a more flavorful sauce, pick one of the others. The cowboy fries were delicious. They were loaded with pulled pork, fried onions, cheese, scallions, and bbq sauce. They were very delicious, highly recommend trying. Onto the tacos, the best part. My husband tried the street tacos, he tried 3 different meats, chicken, steak, and ground beef. They were all good. I had the blackened salmon and carne asada. The best one out of all was the blackened salmon. The mango salsa and seasoning is amazing and the fish was very crispy (not mushy at all). One thing I will note is that the tacos are big and filling. I found 2 was more than enough, my husband said 2-3 were enough for him, especially if you're having appetizers too. My friend and I decided to stop here because we were coming home from an event and neither of us had been here. It was a Saturday fairly early and there was hardly anyone inside but yet we got seated in the covered patio - the heaters were on, the hostess informed us but still was chilly and I'm not sure why we couldn't sit somewhere in the empty interior. The place did seem to have some funky decor and a cool vibe. Our waitress was nice and helped me choose my meal. Their menu isn't too extensive but definitely unique - it's like a spin on Tex mex with some American options. The street tacos were priced individually by type or you could get plain tacos in a deal. They did have special for drinks and food. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for but most of the things I was looking at had these weird chips I hadn't heard of - malanga chips - including the dip trio which came with two types of chips, salsa, guac and queso. The chips were definitely super oily but all of the dips were good but nothing amazing. I went with the chicken sandwich after the waitress recommendation because I wasn't feeling like mix and match tacos and the chicken and burger both sounded good. The chicken by itself was not good - definitely reminded me of a frozen battered patty but with all of the accoutrements was pretty good! Uninspiring experience! Partly my fault for thinking this was Bar Taco (similar to one at King Of Prussia Mall); not even close. Do not order the tacos, plain and simple--- no flavor, way too wet hence they disintegrate as you try to pick them up to eat. I am not 8 years old and dripping food on my clothes is unacceptable. From the start, spent time trying to get acclimated to the menu. I was surprisingly told NO a handful of times to my questions. No other tequila-based mixed drinks other than the two on the menu and I don't drink margaritas, I prefer a good spicy tequila mixed drink... luckily there was the Jalapeno Paloma. Noticed the specialty taco section and saw the suggested 10 piece pkg, it was just my wife and myself so I asked, can we order 3 each then add 4 more based on the ones we liked.... NO!! Well that shut me down and I opted for the tuna poke bowl with priced cauliflower and it was rather good. However, my wife opted for 3 specialty tacos and while they were plated nicely, lacked flavor, and needed to eat them with a fork because when she tried to pick it up if crumbled in her hands onto her white shorts... to the dry cleaners they go. I tried a taste of each via a moral of the meat-- the Yard Bird, Smoked Piggy and Carne Asada Tacos and I would never order them. Again no flavor, no wow this is really good. I've been to Bombas twice now. The first time I had tacos that were very good, chips and queso. The second time I went in Taco Tuesday and ordered a taco that I can't remember and the Brussels sprouts taco. The Brussels sprouts taco was one of the best I've ever eaten. So unusual with roasted Brussels, red onions, a little sliced jalapeno & sprinkled with peanuts. I can't tell you how delicious that was! This week I got a take out order of two of those delicious vegetable tacos. Even reheated at home they were divine! I hope they stay on the menu forever! read more

I visited Bomba to meet a friend for a weekend dinner. We were sat by the hostess as soon as we came in. The restaurant was very well-staffed to accommodate a busy Saturday evening. Our server did a great job answering any questions we had. We ordered a few appetizers while we were deciding on our tacos. Our Street Corn and Brazilian Cheesy Bread appetizers arrived first. Even though Bomba is more contemporary than authentic, the Street Corn was grilled and seasoned to perfection. It compared very similarly to what I've had at traditional Mexican spots. The Brazilian Cheesy Bread was delicious, but definitely more dense and cheesy compared to what's served at Brazilian restaurants. Our tacos were presented exceptionally when they arrived. I ordered three different tacos. I was surprised that my favorite was the Sweet Potato taco. Both the flavor and texture of the toppings completed the sweet potato perfectly. The Yard Bird taco was much more flavorful than expected. The chicken was seasoned perfectly, and the toppings were fresh. Came to this plaza for another restaurant and ended up trying Bomba because it was less crowded! Glad we did. We sat on the enclosed patio which was great and had great service. It took a bit longer than expected to get a drink and appetizer and there was a mistake with my kids food but nothing that would stop me from coming back. The drink was amazing. As was the appetizer, we ordered queso. I got two tacos, the Baja shrimp and the Baja fish. The fish taco wasn't anything to write home about, the toppings buried the fish and there was no flavor. The shrimp taco made up for it. It was the best shrimp taco I've had in ages. The breading was delicious and crispy, standing up to the wet toppings. I ordered a second. Prices add up quickly here since most of the tacos have individual pricing , but there is a street taco deal and some weekly specials, along with a rather large menu. I would definitely come here again. The spacious patio as well as a generous kids menu make this place very family friendly. The restaurant had some nice decor with good vibes and music playing. My group came in around 2:00 on a Saturday so it was pretty empty at the time, but started filling up as we left. We found it a little hard to flag down a waiter for requests, but they did circle back every once in a while. The food seemed to vary depending on what you ordered. I ordered three different specialty tacos: Yard Bird, Smoked Piggy, and Beachcomber. The Yard Bird was good. I found the Smoked Piggy to be extremely light with barely any meat, but the Beachcomber was loaded with fish. I have eaten at here once before a couple of years ago, and I remember it was a good experience. This Saturday 5/17 around 7:30 I decided to try again. We told the hostesses that we needed a table for two. The two girls began talking about plans for that evening and it was very awkward to be standing there and suddenly ignored. Then another employee (assuming a server) came to tell them the menus he grabbed weren't cleaned. He said something quietly but we heard it and the two girls still again didn't pay much attention to seating us and instead were reacting to each other about the comment. We finally were seated 5 minutes later. No one even looked at us for 10-15 minutes while we were at our table. There were a few open tables around the restaurant and several employees had walked by us at that point. We decided to leave at 7:45 and went next door to Iron Hill. I don't plan to be back to this restaurant after this experience. The table next to us even looked like they were waiting around for a while for someone to come by. I completely understand Saturday nights are busier at restaurants and I expect service may be slower but to not even be offered a drink, and the awkward encounter right when we walked in for several minutes was pretty disappointing when we saw a fair amount of empty tables around us inside and outside. read more

I was skeptical trying this location as I was not impressed by Paladar, their sister restaurant. I came for their Taco Tuesday promotion, and I was pleasantly surprised. We started off with the charred tomatillo salsa and queso dip, I think the queso was the star comparing the two. I did like that in addition to typical tortilla chips they also had taro chips for variety. The margaritas were refreshing and not too strong. For tacos we got the beachcomber and smoked piggy and they were so delicious! Full of flavor and packed with fillings. The tacos alone are a 5/5 but because the service was poor, I am deducting a star. It seemed impossible to flag down someone to order more and multiple workers ignored our table when we raised our hand. When I came to visit my grandmother and aunt in Newtown, I wouldn't have expected to have such an unpleasant experience at a restaurant. The first thing I will address is our waitress. She had an unwelcoming attitude almost like she didn't want to be there. Our food did come very fast, but the prices were insane. Would you pay 17 dollars for two tacos? I wouldn't. During the happy hour, the most basic beef taco was 8 dollars for two. We ordered queso, marinara, and guacamole. None of them had flavor. The marinara tasted dull, the guacamole was bland, and the cheese tasted like melted american cheese. The chips that came with it were overly salted, I'd stay away if I were you. When I had gotten my tacos, they were very small and tasted pleasant, though they were just the beef tacos. I then ordered the BombaChanga with high expectations. It came out steaming hot and looked amazing. The pork on the inside was very good but the rest of the plate was very bland and salty. Though, it was very filling and large. If I would have known how magnificent Bomba tacos were, I'd been here a long time ago. I attempted to visit last weekend with my boyfriend around dinner time, but the wait time was outrageous so we were forced to find an alternative dinner spot. Today, however, we popped in a bit earlier and were seated right away. The one disappointing factor in all of this was that reservations were not able to be secured on OpenTable. We browsed the menu before visiting, and the one thing that caught my eye was the Spicy Peanut Salsa. I'm not into extremely spicy foods, but I can handle a little heat. The salsa did not disappoint - in fact, our server told us it was more of a peanut flavored sauce and she wasn't wrong. It tasted like the dipping sauce that comes with Summer Rolls. Definitely different, but very enjoyable. I loved the variety of tortilla chips, plantains and malanga that came with it. And now, a round of applause for the tacos. I went with The Plant Daddy which had plant based chorizo, mushrooms, pickled onions, pickled shishitos and the best part... a hard AND soft shell! It's pretty rare to come across this type of shell combination unless you do it yourself at home. It excited me, nonetheless. They were delicious and I should have gotten more than two. To share, we ordered Bomba fries. They reminded me of Old Bay fries, except they were seasoned with Adobo. My boyfriend ordered Carne Asada, Baja Shrimp and Smoked Piggy tacos. Of the three, his favorite was Carne Asada. Smoked Piggy came in second. Service was amazing and so was the ambiance. It's no surprise I loved Bomba, as it took me a minute to realize it's linked to Paladar Latin Kitchen, which I've visited and also loved. Food service at the bar was super fast at 5 on a Saturday, so that was a plus. I ordered, hit the bathroom, and came back to my food waiting for me. My pulled pork taco was decent. Not amazing. Not worth $5+ for sure. And the brussel sprouts sounded great but were dried out and not that tasty. So overall, just a so-so meal. Service could have been better. The cost of two tacos (you can no longer buy just one taco) is now $12 compared to $4.90 per taco in 2024, 22% increase in one year. Yikes!! We were seated at a table in the greenhouse looking part of the place, but it was very warm even though it was freezing outside and all glass. FOOD: My wife and I thought the food was overall very good. We got chips with the Chile rojo salsa. Salsa was excellent, chips were mid, just like Moes. She got a ensalada mixta and added chicken; she really enjoyed it. I got 3 tacos (yard bird, blackened salmon, carne asada) and thought they were all excellent. Also for sides we got the French fries, beans/rice, and Chile lime cucumbers; all very good. Drinks: Not the highlight for sure. We each had a maple syrup old fashioned; very small volume and weak alcohol content. Then we each had a Hennessy and Diet; again, weak. We wanted tequila flights but these were not an option here. It should be; all Mex places should have tequila flights : ) Service: The worst part of the experience. Our Andrew/Kevin guy was very soft spoken. We asked for waters when we ordered our bar drinks. We asked random food runner who I guess passed the message along when I specifically said 'we asked our waiter twice and he hasn't brought them". Came back once to check on us, which was fine. Brought us boxes and dropped check, but when collecting payment, did not pre-bus the dirty plates. Big no-no. Overall: Bill was about $100 even but we had plenty of food for day 2 so the value was ok. But for the watered down drinks and subpar service, this will not be a repeat. Visited Bomba bar last night and it was poppin and luckily we got two bar seats upon entering. It is deceivingly large inside, beautiful bar and it was spotless clean. Our bartender John was awesome. Attentive, friendly and an all around good guy. The drinks were fresh and tasty. The tacos were underwhelming. We ordered the ten pack and They took an hour to come out. Pretty long wait but No biggie I know it's very busy. I did have high expectations going in and every taco except the Nashville hot chicken was cold. So that was incredibly disappointing after paying $40 for 10 tacos. I'd like to try them again and give them another chance in the future. It is a great place to have a drink with friends. read more

Have to say, Bomba Taco & Bar is a beautiful space. High industrial ceilings with black utilities, amazing bright pastel colors from top to bottom, more glass bottles around the bar than you can imagine, and eye catching wall murals that capture and hold your attention. Great design. But, what exactly is a "Bomba Taco?" Well, I'll be guessing, yet a little research suggests that Bomba is a Puerto Rican bailar rooted in the island's history of slavery, that has evolved into a cultural expression in music and dance that focuses on women in long flowing white dresses and men in white suits and hats, sashaying to the beat of barrel drums covered with stretched goat skin and string instruments from Spanish heritage. The Bomba is the barrel originally used to transport rum from the island to the rest of the Spanish world and for trade with the English in the 17th-18th Centuries. If you are curious how the tacos fit into this history, you are right to inquire. They don't, except in the creative minds of the developers of this foodie franchise. So, if you accept the premise that tacos and rum (and tequila) are natural partners, it is a small step to combine them into a new cultural affect, regardless of national origin. My two tacos (Carne Asado, The Yard Bird) were quite good, with the smallish tortilla unable to close around the filling and falling out with each bite. The ingredients were fresh with the flavor of the grilled steak, onion, cotija cheese and poblano pepper; and the chipotle marinated roast chicken, guacamole and pickled red onion, clear and distinct. At $4 per, a fair price. But, if you also wanted some special salsa or guac with them, the prices easily doubled. Again fresh and tasty, but no longer a reasonable value proposition. $8-10 for a undersized taco takes some getting used to, even with post Covid supply chain inflation. Throw a delicious fruity margarita into the mix and before you know it, you are spending serious money, especially if like me, you were only there for lunch. Once you adjust to the history, cuisine interplay and the cost structure, you can have a good time at Bomba, although the decibel level may also need a cooler note once the large outside doors open in warmer weather. read more

Had a great weekend which started at Bomba Taco of course! As always, amazing drinks and food!! Started off the night with the margarita pitcher which is always the way to go. Cowboy fries and the nachos for the table. First time trying the nachos with the queso and it did not disappoint. Also ordered the 10 pack of tacos as well. Sampled the Nashville hot chicken taco and the carne asada taco. The carne asada was a bit chewy but had a good flavor. The Nashville chicken was a good try too if you like some heat. Can't even say if there was an once of fish is this dish. The shrimp in the Baja Shrimp taco was tough and rubbery. Both had flavor, not from the main food, but from all the condiment ingredients. I did enjoy the side of Coconut Mango Rice. My friends raved about this place having the best tacos. I guess that was lost on me. The service wasn't the best. The bartender was our server at our table. She spent most of her time socializing with the 1 customer at the bar. They opened Feb 18th I believe & this place is the perfect addition to Newtown. When we arrived I put my name on a list, told me it would be an hour. The one thing I noticed on the website is they had a waitlist coming soon, I hope that is added sooner than later. We just waited in the car, there are seats indoors and outdoors to wait but it was a little busy (as to be expected.) They text you when your table is available and to my surprise it was more like 30 min. Not too bad. The inside is very trendy/modern. Not really what you would think of for a taco joint but nice. The bathrooms are single and gender neutral. They also have a loyalty program that is free along with an app. If you're planning to visit often like me, it makes sense to get it. The kids meals are really great you get 2 sides, a main course, drink, and churros. The tacos are of normal size and delicious. I had gotten the smoked piggy, Carne asada, Nashville hot chicken (be warned this one is very hot!!) My favorite was the smoked piggy, I didn't like the Nashville because it was too spicy for me. I didn't have any alcohol so I cannot comment on that just washed my tacos down with a pineapple Jarritos. We also ordered the build your own guac, as well as the Yucca fries (so good!!) Everything overall was delicious. Our server was awesome too. Very accommodating for our large (yet picky) order. Decent price and be mindful while they may have other locations this is a new location for them.
