I'm not sure if Italian dining can get better than this. Just simply loved everything. The entire night was such a joy! And starting off with the complementary bread, which was cooked to perfection. We ate so many wonderful things here. I don't remember them all but I'll name a few things. Their salmon dinner was absolutely amazing. And usually when you order salmon out it's pretty good but never spectacular. Here it was the best salmon I have ordered to date in my entire life! it came over beans and spinach and an incredible broth that was poured over the salmon. Never had better! The pork chop here is incredible! Also, the past here are to die for. The possible vodka sauce was perfect. But the pasta, Bolognese was something to write home about! My wife and I came here for a date night. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time, but weren't seated for about 10 minutes. Not ideal, but the place was packed so I won't fault them for that. We were seated and quickly greeted by our waitress. She helped us with everything we needed, answered any questions we had, went over the specials (some more than once) and wasn't rushing us at all. After putting in our order, we were provided warm bread with a nice olive oil and garlic mixture to dip into. The wait for our food was a little long, but again, the place was BUSY. None of the appetizers on the menu really piqued our interest, but we did opt for a tuna tartare special. It was good, but the only food they provided to use to pick up the tuna was the thinnest crostini I've ever seen. It was still good by just eating it directly, but would've been nice with some other vehicle to pick it up and enjoy with. Drinks were good, but they better be at that price. I had the roman holiday, which was good but nothing special. Probably not something I'd order again for $18. My wife is a tequila fan, so she picked the bounty on the beach. I'm not much of a tequila lover, but this one was great. Similar to a pina colada, but with a slight tequila taste. Now for the main event, our entrees. My wife picked a delicious tagliatelle bolognese, and I went with the pork chop scarpariello. I was initially hesitant to order the pork chop, as I had one a few nights ago at a different restaurant. But the description was so enticing that I went for it. And let me tell you, I'm glad I did. With all the different components in the pork chop, it made for a great combination of flavors without being too much or overwhelming. I can't comment as much on my wife's bolognese, as I tried a few bites but didn't experience it in its entirety. What I can and will say is that it was tasty and heavy. The portions for both of the meals we picked were generous. We're often the type to at least take a look at the dessert menu. But we were so stuffed already (I'm sure the 2 baskets of bread we shared didn't help!) so we just took the check. The total price wasn't pretty for 2, but I expected that coming in. The food was painfully average at best, but what really stood out (in the worst way) was the quality of the ingredients. The tomato sauce tasted like it came straight from a can, the pasta was overcooked and mushy, and the cheese... I'm not even sure it was real cheese. For a place claiming to serve "authentic" Italian food, nothing tasted fresh or remotely homemade. The salad was limp, the bread was stale, and the Sunday gravy meatballs were extremely dry. Service was fine, but it's hard to enjoy anything when the food is this forgettable. There are too many good Italian spots around to waste time or money here. We came here on a Saturday night. 9 PM booking. The restaurant is large and loud and crowded, but not overly cramped. We were immediately greeted by our server, but unfortunately that was not a harbinger of what the experience would ultimately be. It took 10 minutes for water to arrive, and another 10 for cocktails. Finally she actually took our food order. We ordered the cheese plate, thinking that it would come relatively quickly. 25 minutes later, it arrived with the appetizer we ordered to share. Then 40 minutes after that, our main dishes finally arrived. I think our server came by once in that nearly hour long span. Top Notch experience at La Mondina this past Friday night. Everyone at our table was extremely happy with our entrees, they were all prepared perfectly (see my pics). The Eggplant Fritta appetizer was equally enjoyed, we loved it. Service was stellar -- our waitress, Andrea, was helpful & knowledgeable. It was also my wife's birthday Friday, Andrea made the occasion special by topping our Bombolini dessert with a sparkling party candle. La Mondina is a gem on a quiet stretch in Brielle. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas. There seemed to be a lot of people here to celebrate special occasions, so while we were in regular clothes, plenty of other people were quite dressed up. They have a good sized parking lot, which makes things easy. My wife behaves like she's filming a react video. It's her one mode of being (besides sleeping, when she presumably judges things in her dreams) so it was shocking that her opinion of the food at La Mondina was simply "good, but not Italian." She clarified that it's like...third generation Italian. I pointed out that in NJ everyone is from Naples and Sicily and not the north of Italy, like she is, so it could be a different style of Italian food. That line of reasoning did not interest her. Her great grandmother was a mondina. The name implies food from northern Italy. She stands by her ruling. We showed up on a night that I assumed would be quiet, but they were bustling. Despite our lack of reservations, they found us the last table available and even moved us to a nicer spot when another table opened up before our food arrived. In addition to being very picky, my wife doesn't eat gluten unless it seems worthwhile, so it was shocking to see her eating more than one piece of the bread and ordering a pasta dish. She was originally going to order risotto, but decided she didn't trust it when she saw someone risotto at another table nearby. She explained how her pasta was done incorrectly after she finished every single bite. Clearly, sometimes the "wrong" way is not necessarily a bad way, eh? This argument doesn't get far with her. I stole a few bites of her dish and agree that it was excellent. We got the charred octopus, the spaghetti nero, and the orecchiette. Everything was excellent. This included the service. Our server was attentive without hovering, humoring my wife's running commentary. We split an appetizer and got two mains, which was more than enough food for the two of us. I would suggest you come hungry or plan on bringing home leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We came because friends who live in Brielle gave us a gift certificate for our wedding. We meant to buy a gift certificate for friends of ours for Christmas on the way out, but got distracted by a cute baby. Luckily, they also sell gift cards online. read more

It's Very unfortunate to have to write this review because this is one of my favorite places . As a frequent visitor to this restaurant I have always enjoyed every bit of its food and atmosphere. Unfortunately this time around was a very different and terrible experience . When we were sat for our reservation time the waitress tried to have us put our entire order in at once and rush us . She stated that we were not allowed to put just appetizers in which there were three that we ordered (This was a table for two mind you ) I had to put my entire order in or I couldn't add to it because "IT'S POLICY ". This "POLICY" has NEVER been bought to my attention or anyone I know who has been here and we have been coming here since they have opened. In the many times I've been here not once by any waitress , waiter , maiterdee, or not even on the website or menu has this "POLICY" ever been seen or mentioned other than this night . The food was good as per usual but the rude and pushy waitress who tried to rush me thru a dinner that I had just sat down for after sitting at the bar for an hour having spent $100 and also on top of having a two hour time limit to eat completely turned us off from coming back to this establishment . In what world where you have to wait weeks for a reservation , spend a minimum of $200 for a meal for two (that being on the very low side) should anyone be told how they need to order and when they can order it? Anytime a restaurant of this supposed caliber is visited the service should be top notch and polite , not money hungry and rushed. They need to fix this so called "POLICY" ASAP. As a former chef of a very busy and prominent restaurant in point pleasant beach this so called "POLICY" is completely the wrong way of doing business . In regards to the date it was this past Saturday at 8pm this was actually part of a Christmas present from my girlfriend because how much I do love the food here . It's very unfortunate to have to feel rushed to order food when I just ordered three separate appetizers not knowing what in the world I would want my main course to be. The pasta was very good however, I did not enjoy the fish as much as I thought I would. It was extremely dry and salty. Vast list of drinks too, a little pricey for the regular menu. Ambience inside was a little louder than expected, specially for a fancy looking place. The only two things that I can point that were disappointing were, even tho is a large menu and Italian food it should be a bit easier to identify the food for general not Italian costumers. Also disappointing was when we were seated it was served a complementary sparking water without even being asked if we wanted it, this would be ok if on the final bill we were not charged the full price for the bottle. Overall, a good experience, but sitting on the patio was a real put off. It was noisy and the background music was too loud. Our request to turn it down got us nowhere. This was another of our "mini Yelp group" dinners and we did enjoy our meals. Appetizers consisted of Meatballs, Raw Bar Plate (6 Shrimp) and Calamari. All appetizers were excellent! I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally went. Big building with a bunch of parking. Surprisingly went early and there were almost no spots but found one. The restaurant itself was beautiful. We were seated earlier than our reservation which was nice. Was intrigued by the cocktail special. Ordered a bottle of wine, but was told they were out of our first choice. We got the focaccia to start which was pretty good. The sauce was sweet, not what we expected. The ricotta was great though. We got the vodka pasta and bolognese which were excellent. It seemed like the food was getting better as we dined, but couldn't help but feel like we were being rushed. About a year ago, my husband and I got married in the beautiful upstairs room, surrounded by friends and family. Our guests loved the food but because we were busy mingling, my husband and I didn't get to really get to taste everything. So on our first anniversary we came back to celebrate and to finally eat! Everything we ordered was phenomenal. I've never heard my husband rave about a meal until this one. The fried calamari was perfect; light and not greasy at all. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese and my husband had the Branzino. He was so floored by his entree that he called it the best fish he's ever had. We finished with some Bombolini with 3 dipping sauces (the caramel was the best) and an espresso martini. I hope this restaurant sticks around because we plan on celebrating all our anniversaries here, where it all started.
