I have been going to La Notte on and off for over a decade simply because it's conveniently located near my home. Known for its cheap pasta takeaways ($12 including tax) and cheap pasta Tuesdays ($8) this is an ok place if you live nearby. I can't say I'd recommend driving more than 5-10 minutes to dine here. The menu is fairly simple and if your'e not a picky eater, you'll definitely be able to find something to satisfy your needs. The pastas are tasty and all meals come with a couple slices of focaccia per person. They don't do refills on the bread here so this could be a consideration if you visit on a Tuesday when the restaurant is packed and you have to wait a long time for your food. On a side note, La Notte does not honor their $8 deal on Tuesdays for takeaway. I'm not sure I understand their logic behind this (seeing as takeaway doesn't require the use of additional seating.wait staff), but thought I should share this with other Yelpers so they don't end up with an unexpected $12 charge (like I did). read more

Funny what the last 2 reviewers said about the restaurant.....that they had walked by the place many times but never thought to venture inside to check it out. That's exactly what my husband and I were saying. We've driven by it for years...we've lived in the Mackenzie area for 8 years and never thought to eat here. Glad we decided to check it out last night! Everything from the warm bread with the olive oil and balsamic to the entrees were delicious. We had a caesar and mixed green salad to start, then shared the linguine al pesto and roman pizza. It was all very, very good! We will definitely make this place our regular eatery. read more

Great place. Went here for my parents anniversary last week and had a great experience! I had the special salad and pesto which was delicious, so flavourful! Rest of our party also enjoyed the food. Very reasonable prices for both food and drinks compared to other Italian eateries in van, good selection too. Was pleased to see they have burrowing owl wines, amazing local wine you can't find anywhere. Can be a little loud at busy times... but overall very happy !! read more

The overall experience was very authentic, the decor and ambiance gave the feeling of being in Italy. Our server( forgot to get his name) was excellent, his service was next to none and made sure everyone was satisfied with their meal. The quality of the food was also top quality, for a table of 9 everyone was satisfied, portion sizes were perfect and full of flavor. My only regret is that I have not been sooner. I love Italian food, and this city has some great restaurants, unfortunately this isn't one of them. Food was less than mediocre. Nothing tasted fresh. The sauce tasted like a mass produced sauce. The pizza dough tasted as though is was made with frozen dough. I make way better pizza at home. The service was good. The decor was archaic. Would not go there again. Love this place. The service can be slow at times, but the servers are awesome and so is the owner. Pasta Tuesdays is all their pastas are $7.99 which is great! Make reservations if you can they can get busy, we go pretty much every Tuesday. Wow! We absolutely loved this place. Had driven by several times since I moved to the area, and finally had the chance to get in for dinner. The service was great, friendly but professional as well as informed, she could easily answer our questions. Turns out she is the daughter of the chef, and they have been in business 25 years! Not hard to tell why. The caesar salad was phenomenal. I honestly don't say that lightly. I make my own dressing from scratch and there are very few restaurants that live up to my personal opinion, this was definitely one of them. I had spicy prawns, they were great, and my favourite pasta puttanesca, which could have had a little more bite to it but still flavourful. Will definitely return! read more

Let me be clear, service: 3, ambiance: 2.5, Pasta:4 I had the cheese ravioli in Alfredo sauce, the portions were an ideal size and it was really tasty and exactly what you would hope for considering the price and location of the restaurant. Went here for Valentine's dinner on the Saturday with my partner and wow! Super cute and cozy inside, great service, amazing food. The restaurant was full, but not too loud that you couldn't have a conversation. Our waitress was funny and personable, which we appreciated - I know some people like more "professional" service but I like when my servers chat with me and are genuine people. We were super happy. We expected it to be more expensive than it was - most dishes being like $15-25, which isn't too bad at all. They had live piano and it really put a nice touch on the evening. Since the new ownership, I have been frequenting this establishment. It has been pleasant for the most part. Along with new management, the environment has recently been renovated. Atmospheric conditions are calm and enjoyable. So far the food has been good, and they have been accommodating in fulfilling taste. Will hopefully eat here for many years to come. read more

Ok I was here last night for a birthday dinner and it wasn't very busy when we got there initially, but as the evening progressed, the place was busier and busier and packed by the time we left! This nice, quaint Italian restaurant is located at the corner of Dunbar and 16th and is a perfect place for couples and even groups. The decor and atmosphere is very clean and classy. They even hired a pianist to play the baby grand for extra ambiance! I ordered the pesto linguini with chicken, escargot, and beef carpaccio. All were excellent and for dessert I went with the tartufu from Marion's gelato! Pure chocolate awesomeness from Marios gelati! Maybe I should do a separate review of the ice cream from Marios as it seems a lot of local restaurants are using their ice cream for desserts! All in all, if your in the mood for Italian and some piano ambiance, La notte is a solid quaint place to enjoy a meal. I also believe it is a family run business too, and it's always nice to support local family run businesses in my books! read more

Quaint neighborhood restaurant, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The staff were very welcoming and I loved how the owner came and checked in with us, very pleasant experience indeed. Had a very nice dinner with good quality food. It's not gourmet dining, but we weren't looking for that. We very much enjoyed the food quality and had good service. I'm giving La Notte 5 stars because it holds lovely memories for my husband and I and the food is really lovely. It's our local neighbourhood restaurant that feels like home from the moment we walk in the doors. The service is - not service. Rather like visiting dear friends who really enjoy entertaining. The owner is as warm as the day we met him 12 years ago now. The food tastes delicious too, with each dish made with care. I love this place and always will. My husband and I used to come to this friendly neighborhood establishment while our sons were attending university and our sons, who are hearty eaters would always have generously prepared entrees. Since they have graduated and left the nest, we somehow forgot the memories of La Notte's fabulous dinners until tonight, where we returned. Nothing has changed. My wife have gone here for many years and it is normally very good. Went back recently with a gift certificate from a family member. Saturday evening dinner with reservation. Initial service was reasonably good but appetizers never arrived but when I asked for the bill after waiting for almost an hour our dinners arrived(not very well cooked) but appetizers never did arrive. Food was good, service was terrible. I watched 4 staff members watching tv behind the bar and talk amongst themselves. Our server was nice but she wasn't even in view if we needed her. I had to go up to the bar once to ask for water, and the second time for our bill. When I approached the bar, our server asked "if theres was anything else she can get us" as if to pretend she actually was doing her job or interested. It was very insulting. Our wine didn't taste well at all, so we didnt even drink it, Our server didnt even notice that we werent drinking the wine at all, and when we told her about the wine, she said that that year was bad, and that the restauraunt was going to stop carrying it because no one likes it. (I thought to myself "why did we get serverd this awefull wine then" if they already know how bad it is. Our next half litre tasted exaxtly the same as if another bottle of the same wine was opened for us. Which in the end tasted just as bad. We didnt even touch it, and we mentioned it was still unacceptale. We sat at the table for 10-15 minutes not touching our wine, and with our plates cleared. No one came to our table again. I had to go up to the bar and ask for the bill. I paid full price for the wine that I did not touch. We werent asked if we wanted dessert or coffee or anything. We were left to fen for ourselves. I would of appreciated a resolution to the wine and more attention at the table. The food was delicious and it came out fast. I was impressed with the food and had nothing but good things to say. We may of had a better experience if we picked a different caraf of wine, but it was one of the most expensive price point's and we though we were trying something elese the second time. Perhaps a more expensive bottle would of helped the situation, but unfortunately the service aspect which is so important was just shamefull. I am willing to give it another try, but only when the owners are present and the time is closer to dinner time instead of 9PM. That way the staff may be under the gun to provide better service infront of the owners. We may of caught the staff closer to the end of the night and therefore with no supervisor on hand to keep them in check....The whol time I was looking right at the staff behind the bar waiting for service, watching them joke and laugh and not pay any attention to us what soever, not even noticing me looking right at them. It was dissapointing since I was testing the place out for the first time. Overall good food. Terrible experience. Willing to give it another shot. Looking back I could of been more insistant on getting the wine off our bill or said we would like beers or other drink's after second time. But our server brought no resolution to the matter or any sense of caring about us paying full price for wine we didnt touch. That hurts a bit.....I suspect the second time will be more positive, I am willing to chalk this us as a bad night.....You know what they say "when the cat's away the mice will play" and thats what appeared to be going on there.... read more
