La Paloma used to be our go to place for Mexican food when I lived in Safford, and I seem to remember it being better. We had lunch there today, and there was a lot to like (crushed ice for the drinks, low priced lunch specials), but overall it just wasn't as good as it used to be. The salsa needs to be kicked up a notch, because the spicy version wasn't very. My chile relleno was kind of small, and while I didn't notice it, my brother said the beans had a funny taste to them. I liked the enchilada sauce because it wasn't too bitter, but it needed a little more flavor. Overall, I was a bit disappointed, but am willing to give them another try next time I'm in town. read more

The Gila Valley has a well-deserved reputation for excellent Mexican food. La Paloma contributes to the reputation. What sets them apart is their large menu containing items not found elsewhere in the valley. One of my favorites is the tortas, which is basically a big sandwich which includes spiced shredded beef, melted cheese, sauteed onions, green chile, avacado, and a special mayo sauce. In addition to the standard smooth and chunky salsas, they offer a salsa verde. The verde is mild but has a lot of flavor. The downside here is that during busy times the staff has trouble keeping up, and the parking isn't great. The parking lot is dirt, so don't wear nice clothes when it's raining. read more

What a jewel!! Visiting from paradise (Alaska) and met our soon to be son's in-laws at "The Dove". What a great Mexican restaurant!! I had the fajita salad with steak, and their house cilantro/jalapeño vinaigrette. My wife had a tamale dish. Everything was super tasty. Loved the spicy salsa with the chips, also. We arrived 30 min before closing and were greeted and treated like best friends. No one pressured us to leave when the place closed. My only disappointment was knowing we don't have another evening on this trip to try out another dish. Next time I'll trying the same fajita salad with shrimp. Don't miss out eating here. The service could use some fine tuning but...This place is tucked in a neighborhood so it's hard to find but worth the search for sure, I understand they've had some issues lately but I was impressed. The lack of good true Mexican food is hard to find here for some reason and this place gets it as close as I've had in "gringo land". Food is great! But some of the Wait staff is RUDE! Especially if you come in on a busy night. Some of them will 100% take out their frustrations on you. Waiting to be seated on a Friday or Saturday night and watching a waitress be so hateful to patrons was surprising but not unexpected since the last time we ate here our waiter was rude too. In my opinion, by far, the best mexican restaurant in the Safford area. Their food tastes so much more "mexican" than any other place. We used to always go to "Casa Manana", now we switched to "La Paloma" it tastes so much better and has more of a spanish feel to it. We Love It! read more

I no longer live in AZ & was excited to come home to Thatcher last week and eat some local faves. Boy I was wrong. The food was horrible (and wrong, twice) and the wait staff was rude. I never imagined a trip to one of my old favorites would be so rotten. Not sure if this is under new ownership, but if so, they should get their staff in check. I didn't mess up my order, you did! So I get scolded? I know my own food allergies, thank you very much. And "scraping" the unwanted product off still renders the food INEDIBLE to someone with allergies! Seriously, wait & kitchen staff, is this acceptable? I don't think so. I'd NEVER recommend this to anyone. read more

Waitress failed to refill water (at least she could leave a pitcher at our table), we ran out of chips and salsa twice and had to ask. Waited 45 minutes for food after order given. This place is a delicious. It's the best food I've gotten in the county, but even in a big city I would eat here again. The chips and salsa are perfect, the menu has a lot of options and the ones we tried were great. I have to admit I was surprised to find this place in Solomon, especially after sampling a few of the restaurants in Safford and Thatcher and not being particularly impressed. It's only like 5 miles east of Safford, but worth the drive. Also, the building is adorable. read more

Tonight we dined at la Paloma the food was very good and just as we remembered but the service & atmosphere fell short. When we ordered a house margarita and were informed that they ran out of their well tequila we ask for them to provide an upgraded liquor at the well price and the waitress was rude. We also had to put up with the staff doing daily heavy cleaning all around us even though it was well before closing time. read more

La Paloma has got to be one of the best undiscovered restaurants we have ever "found". Located 4 miles east of safford (East on HWY 70 to Bowie Ave, then South on Bowie to Clifton St - then East on Clifton St to La Paloma) La Paloma has a limited menu by commercial Mexican restaurant standards, but what the have on the menu is all done very, very well. La Paloma is on the "Salsa Trail" and well worth the few minutes drive from Safford. The night we dined the waitstaff was short handed so the wait was longer than I would have liked - hence 4 stars rather than 5 stars. Best part of the meal was the salsa - it complemented my meal (three Chimichangas) rather than burned the taste out of my mouth! The commercial Mexican restaurants could take culinary lessons from La Paloma! read more

My husband and I went for the first time last night. From the moment we walked in our experience was sour. After standing at the front desk for 10 minutes the host finally walks up. Within that time another party came in and stood behind us. The host walks up to the desk and ignores us when we were obviously there first. I thought he was talking to me, so I responded. He turns to me, giving me a rude look and sneered, I'll be right with you. After waiting another 20 minutes to be seating, we are taken to our table. We order and wait over 30 minutes til we receive cold food and to top it off the portions are tiny. My husbands burro was about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. It cost $11. My fajitas also had small portions of meat and soggy bell peppers. That was $12. Our waiter was very nice but could have checked on us more. I am very disappointed with our experience and will never return. read more

Every time I've eaten there I've had great service with the exception of one server. If I remember correctly her name was Mariah, she has a very bad attitude and work ethic. Don't waste your money. Used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Gila Valley but they're apparently under new management now. Used to look forward to seeing the combination I'd ordered arrive at our table as the plate used to be covered with red chili sauce, lettuce, sour cream, cheese; a real treat for the eyes and the tummy. We recently went there for the first time in a little over a year thinking it'd be the same to treat our company from Indiana. Remember the sour cream for the taco? Fugetaboutit!! Remember the generous portions of beans and rice? Fugetaboutit! I was so disappointed for our company thinking that I'd never go back to La Paloma again. Used to be good. Now it appears they're cutting corners wherever they can. read more
