If the Asians are lining up outside before opening you know it's got to be good. They open at 1 and we got there about 15 min early since we read the reviews about the wait. Right after there were about 20 people behind us waiting. You go in pick your selection of squid, fish, shellfish, lobster, shrimp and other misc seafood. They weigh it and then they ask for the clams if you want to steam or in a tomato sauce. Get the tomato sauce it's really good. They ask if you want salad, bread, and sauce all comes with a charge. Get the bread it's .50 euros you can dip it in the tomato clam sauce. We also got the garlic butter spread it was good with the bread. The fried squid was really crunchy, the razor clams had a slight crunch, the shrimp were slightly grilled and the clams were delicious! I recommend coming early, but if you don't the food comes out fast! Update we went a 2nd time in citgas a little after 2 and they were out of razor clams so we got the water shrimp, squid grilled, and tomato mussels. Yom! read more

When here to try it out. We where hoping from restaurant to restaurant. We ordered some mussels and Rap fish. Mussels where alright in flavor. They where very fresh. There are good restaurants. And then there are phenomenal restaurants. This is one of those. Came here during winter time with friends, and there were maybe two other groups in the restaurant. When you walk in, there's a bunch of super fresh seafood -- ones that are familiar like clams and mussels but also ones you've probably never seen before. It's a bit overwhelming to be honest, and I can't imagine going through this experience in the summer when there are monster lines (according to the worker, this place can get crazy busy in the warmer months). Thankfully, the ladies who work here all seem to speak English very comfortably, and they were patient with our indecisive, excited, and overwhelmed states of being. We pointed to a bunch of items and specified how much we wanted. For some of the items, we were given a few options on how we wanted it cooked, but for most of the items, that wasn't the case. After paying, we were given a number, and our seafood was taken to the kitchen where it was cooked it La Paradeta style. The food came out pretty quickly, and the moment we took bites of our chosen dishes, my friends and I were in gastronomic heaven. I really couldn't believe how everything tasted so good. I wish there were adjectives to describe our experience, but there really aren't any that are adequate. Just trust the chefs and what they do in their kitchen, and you won't be disappointed. If you need seafood and you don't need the fancy table cloth or the white glove waiter service then this is the perfect place for you! But be warned, there is usually a line and an average 10-15 min wait. How it works is like any seafood market, pick what you want when you come in and the price is on the signs. Really reasonable price for fresh seafood, like seriously. I think I saw the lobster was still writing out his will cause it moving on the ice tray. So after you pick out your items then you can request to have it cooked any way you like. If you don't have a preference then they will usually grill it. When determining how much seafood to get keep in mind that you will also get a choice of a side salad, clear soup or lobster bisque with your meal. Once you get your number you will now be processed down the line. When you reach the bar counter you give the waitress you number and tell her what you want to drink. I would recommend the "Damm Lemon", tasted like a Hoegaarden beer. Afterwards you find yourself a seat and wait to be called. This is the hard part, hearing other people's number being called and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. But when your number is finally called you must bring up your receipt with your table number on it. *hint for my non espanol speakers, it's the receipt that says "Mesa" on it* The chef behind the right window slot will cross off your items one by one as they are prepared. So you will have to make multiple trips to get your own food. So you get to play the waiting game multiple times, but the fresh seafood is worth it. Also another helpful hint, bring plenty of napkins because this is a meal better eaten with mother natures utensils. (Especially the shrimps, they gush with head juice. Now if you don't know what head juice is, then we can't be friends.) When you're done, please bus your own dishes at the open window on the left and leave smelling like a fisherman. Definitely a long line so be sure to go early! This is just an open seafood market where you point to what you want and the kitchen makes it. The variations are usually steamed/boiled with some sort of sauce. At first, I felt a little overwhelmed since it was very light flavors, but this place had the best tiger prawns that I've ever had. It made me dreaming of tiger prawns for the rest of the trip and couldn't find a place that was as good. For three of us, we ordered: 1 Crab = reasonably priced, but not too much flavor and really hard to get the meat. The salad inside the shell had too much mayo Tiger prawns = do yourself a favor and get this! Their green parsley/garlic sauce was incredible Octopus = pass, it was really chewy and oily Mussels = they gave SOOO many mussels, definitely a good bang for your buck Lobster soup = pass, couldn't even tell there was any lobster in this - mostly just heavy cream Fish soup = wasn't a huge fan and felt like it was really salty Oysters = can't go wrong with this and a little bit of lemon Note that they have multiple locations, but this one was super close to the Sagrada Familia so it was a nice stop after checking out such a touristy destination. read more

This place is the BOMB!!!!!! They served some of the best food that we had while we were in Europe. This place is so good that we went twice during our 5 days in Barcelona. It's been two months since we ate here, but it feels like yesterday. It's right around the corner from Sagrada Familia, which might make you think that it's a tourist trap or something. However, it's the exact opposite. They serve some of the freshest seafood available. I swear that some of the seafood was still moving when they weighed it out for us. For those who have never been, this place is a no frills type of restaurant, which is my wife's and my favorite type of joint. Both times, we showed up right when they opened. There was a line out the door, which is always a good sign. When you get to the front, you pick from a bunch of fresh seafood chilling on ice. They weigh it out for you, and you pay for it by the pound. When applicable, they ask you how you would like it cooked. Some items can be cooked in a tomato sauce, but by default, most of the seafood is stir-fried in olive oil with parsley. Over the course of the two meals, we tried shrimp, prawns, clams, razor clams, mussels, calimari, fish and crab. We may have tried other items, which I've since forgotten about. All of the seafood was very tasty. You can't really go wrong. The razor clams and shrimp were the standouts. The mussels are the most affordable, and possibly the best value. The calimari was tasty, but an entire squid can be a bit too much fried goodness. The giant prawns are badass, but look more impressive than they taste. The crab is served cold, and tastes like a typical steamed crab. The fish was a little undercooked, but was still yummy. After you've picked out your seafood, they ask if you want bread or drinks. I don't give a shit what you order for drinks (we ordered Coke, and it tasted fine). BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET SOME BREAD! It's critical for sopping up the sauces later in the meal. The food is served cafeteria style. Once your food is cooked and ready to eat, they'll call your number for you to go up to the window to pick it up. Make sure you brush up on your Spanish/Catalonian numbers, but they'll also announce in English as well. However, during our meal, we saw many people get confused by this simple concept and go up to the window repeatedly before their food was ready. Come on, people! It's not that hard! In summary, this place is fantastic. Go there if you like seafood. You won't regret it. read more

Loved it so much!!! We ate there twice in two days! It was absolute heaven on a plate and a fun fresh experience that you customize to your liking. After being carb loaded in France for weeks, it was so nice to have fresh protein and veggie options cooked to order. If you don't go here, you are missing a true gem. It has great energy and lines, but it goes fast. Don't let the lines deter you- so worth it. Plus, it gives you time to plan out your feast and don't worry about knowing exact weights, they help you! You walk up to the counter and through the excellent guidance of the staff, you point out your selections and they help you determine quantities. For most options, you have the choice of fried or grilled. Salads and bread are available too. We had a bit of every option. My favorites were the clams and muscles in a light marinara. Everyone in our party loved it (that's rare). I was sad to leave Barcelona knowing I couldn't go back. Please let there be something similar in the U.S.!!!! It's a simple set up with a counter where all seafood displayed and you line up and pick what you'd like and how you want them cooked either a la plancha ie. grilled. Then you get your drink and wait till your number is called and you collected the plates of goodness. The highlight was the razor clams with green sauce that was a huge portion. We had a feast with fried squid, steamed mussels, and raw oysters. The oysters were large salty Mediterranean ones. Excellent sea food. You choose what you want to eat before it's cooked. It's like going to a fish market. Most of the good is by weight or a "package". And try the lemon beer - tastes like a hef with lemon. If you're not a fan of beer, you might like this one. The prices are very reasonable for seafood and everything we has tasted great. I would get there early - people were lined up outside before they opened. But remember they open at 1pm - 4pm for lunch and then close and open again for dinner 8pm - 1130pm. We had a package of muscles, salad, lobster cream (soup was excellent), 1 order of baby octopus and 1 order of pod razor grilled with the butter sauce (excellent), 1 small lemon beer and a can of soda cost less than 40 euros. However it was refreshing to have with all that seafood. The calamari goes well with tobasco and the garlic sauce. The monkfish goes well with the garlic also, but I would probably want to get it fried next time instead of grilled. The shrimp were very good, but unfortunately priced so high :/. The mussels with tomatoe sauce were very good and a definite must; same with the razor clams! The langoustine were AMAZING. Tasted like buttered lobster that melted in your mouth. Obviously it's pricey because it's a rich people food, but I would recommend 1 or 2 just to try it. Beer was decent but super cheap. They sell wine only by the bottle but they're all 9-13 euros. This is a brilliant concept! Restaurants in the U.S. can really learn a lot from La Paradeta. U.S. restaurants spouting farm to table?...how about displaying the freshness of your ingredients. When you first walk into La Paradeta, it looks like a fish market with cafeteria style seating. You pick out the seafood you want and tell them how you want it cooked (fried, grilled, steamed), you pay, then you wait for your number. It's all self-service with the focus on providing the freshest seafood available. Admittedly, it wasn't cheap, but there was no question about the freshness. We ordered razor clams. It was cooked to perfection and had that sweet sea taste you only get from fresh seafood. The sauce they drizzled on top was addicting. We ordered grilled baby octopus. It had a good char that gave it a nice smokey flavor. We ordered the steamed dungeness crab, it was only $8 but a bit messy to eat. We ordered the oysters. Fresh but ok. Barcelona was overall a good eating city, but La Paradeta stood out for having the best concept. I love the idea of being able to see my ingredients and ensure that what was being served to me had not been defrosted in the microwave. read more

Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor. They have a couple of locations. Since we were heading to La Sagrada Familia, I planned lunch nearby. Our appt for the lift up to the passion tower was at 130pm. We headed there afterwards. It was 1 block east past burger king on a small street. What to do? 1. Pick out your seafood. Prices are listed per kilo 2. They will ask you how you want it cooked. Grill or tomatoe sauce. 3. Order drinks, breads, salad, sauce. Everything cost money. 0.50 euros per each small piece of bread. 0.80 euros for dipping sauce. Beer is pretty cheap. 2.70 euros. They have wine too. 4. They give you a number. Grab a table. Your number will be called out when its ready. Pick up your food at window. Seafood was pretty fresh. Had one bad prawn like item. I think its called ciga or cliga. Overall good. I had a better meal the day before at la boqueria near la rambla. Would recommend but I prefer the other place. It's more fresh and tastes better. read more

Once you've taken in Gaudi's Familia Sagrada, I seriously suggest stopping by this fantastic fresh seafood restaurant. They have an incredible selection of seafood delicacies that you can have either fried or grilled. We had the prawns and razor clams grilled, and clams cooked with a tomato sauce. They were cooked to perfection. We also had the salad, which included pickled orange peel which were fantastic. Everything is a la carte, including the bread and butter with garlic, but worth every penny. We spent 48€ in total including a bottle of wine. In retrospect, we wished we had ordered the two lobsters for 39€. They looked so good. Keep in mind that this is not a traditional sit down restaurant. You make your selections at the entrance and they call out your number when it's done. You also bus your own table, but I think all of that just added to the character. read more

Upon entering the restaurant, it might be a bit confusing, but the process is - pick the items you want, there will probably 2 different options on how they cook each item, and wait for them to call your number. My friends and i fell in love with the freshness of the seafood. The prices were also very good for all we ordered. About 70 euros for 4 people with a bottle of wine. For a low low price of $24, I got some razor clams, fried cuttlefish, fried guppies, and 1 kg of mussels. I honestly did not think that my body could take that much seafood (even though I love seafood), but I somehow finished everything because it was just that delicious. The place is simple, the serving style is very casual, and the location is prime. I can't think of anything wrong with this restaurant and the whole experience was incredible. Among our favorite and more memorable meals during a week in Barcelona. Close to La Sagrada Familia, but the customers appeared to be about an mix of 60% tourists and 40% locals during our visit. For 2 men, we ordered 1/2 kg of prawns(excellent), 4 bundles of razor clams(very good), 2 large crabs(excellent and huge), 1 bag of mussels(good), and 4 scallops(tasty). We couldn't finish the prawns, we simply ordered too much. Have them cook the clams and scallops in garlic and oil.
