After a long day of being bored in Algodones, the family and I wanted to go for tacos and beers. Being as though we were staying at Hotel California and I saw a grill within walking distance I decided to give it a try. The Al pastor tacos and asada were fantastic! I only ordered two in case they weren't good but they were amazing. I had to order two more and the kids loved them also. My son had the asada on flour tortilla and my daughter had a quesadilla. All of it was fun and fantastic! I'd say this is one of the best places in Algodones. $60 for a family of 5 with beers and sodas and excellent tacos with all the fixins is a steal! read more

After posting in a Baja FB group asking for recommendations for eats in Algodones, La Parilla was the most recommended. So naturally, I had to try it. Normally I'd be put off by the place being mostly empty but I learned that this is pretty much an 8am to 5pm kind of town, I wasn't concerned since it was close to 5pm (Ca time). Jesse, our server, greeted us and assured us that they were not ready to close. We were seated and offered menus and a drink order. As much as I wanted a margarita (I always do), I was driving the company vehicle (parked on the US side) so I had to stick with Coke. The menu is somewhat extensive with traditional items and combo plates. We opted for fresh guac and chips while we decided. I have to say this was probably the best guacamole I've had in Mexico. Perfectly balanced with the right amount of chunkiness, lime, and salt. I decided on the #2 which was a cheese enchilada, beef sope, and taco dorado (fried taco) All were delicious and the rice and beans were also great. I enjoyed my food and Jesse was a great server, attentive without being over your shoulder the whole time. Since we'd never been to town and had to hoof it back to the border crossing, Jesse pointed the way and wished us a great day. This is the fourth place we've tried for lunch in Los Algodones and I have to say-best of the four. They had some parking, too. It was clean. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. NICE bar with a lot of options from draft beer, micheladas, and margaritas. I had an inlets that came with fried potatoes, beans, and fresh tortillas. My husband had a machaca and egg burrito. Los Algodones is only an hour away from where we are staying. We wanted to see what it was like so drove down for the day. The drive was quick and we found the parking lot at the border. We usually cross at Tijuana where it's super busy so this was quite nice. We parked and walked through to Los Algodones without anyone looking at us. Algodones is the dental and optical capital. 75% of the town are dental office, 15% optical and the remaining places are pharmacies, restaurants and other goods. I guess most of their business comes from Yuma and the snowbirds that flock there. We walked around enjoying the town. Friends recommended a place for lunch but hubs saw a small place that looked more our style called La Parilla. They have all the favorites for breakfast and lunch. Hubs had carnitas for $7.95 US and I had Veracruz style fish for $11. They took drink orders-we got a water and one margarita to share since they liked big. They also brought chips and salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa was very tasty with a nice heat. It took a while to get our meal which was a smart plan on their part since we got a second margarita and hubs got a Dos Equis beer. Our meals came and the food was good. The carnitas was just ok flavor but didn't have the browned ends that make it so good. The beans and rice were good. Tortillas were good. The star was the Veracruz style fish. The flavor was perfection. The fish was flaky with lots of flavor and the sauce was amazing! I definitely recommend La Parilla for the fish. Tipically resturaunts give you free tortilla chips and salsa with your drinks. At least everywhere I go here in baja. We recieved nothing, ok, we arent freeloaders, we are willing to pay. I asked waiter for a simple order of chips and salsa... He goes and orders with guacamole (I overheared) and the difference in price is way too much. Plus not something I wanted. Tourist trap prices for this item. I asked him to correct it. He didnt realize we overheard and spoke spanish. He said too late, its already been ordered....He saw we didnt change our minds, he eventually went and corrected our order.... Then we ordered margaritas again, not medium, but large Lemon Margaritas. We recieved same size glass as the medium. When asked, the waiter explained medium and large are same size glasses....huh?. Apparently they diferentiate by flavor, not size. Even though the menu presents prices by size, go figure... We recieved ceviche tostadas which we ordered, but left quickly after. We went here, for margaritas, after a dental appointment. The patio was under construction so, we were hesitant to enter. A waiter ushered us in and we were asked for our order. We ordered the regular, large margaritas and chips and salsa. The chips, salsa and margaritas were very good, my complaint was with the bill. The server charged us $1 more/margaritas (we had 2, each) for top shelf tequila. We did not ask for it, nor do I recall seeing it on the menu--I don't even know if we got top shelf tequila. This is sad. We asked for veggies with rice and beans, basically what we got was raw broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots without any seasoning. Not even salt. Just placed there without any effort. The rice was dry and the beans tasted like it had MSG, which was interesting. The dessert was decent though. read more

After five years of eating here during our annual visit(s) for dental work, today may have been the last time. I was so looking forward to eating here, but left very disappointed. The Margaritas were little more than colored water with very little, if any, Tequila in them. These were probably the worst drinks ever. I ordered Carnitas but our waiter said they didn't have that so I ordered chicken fajitas. The chicken was tender and there was plenty of it with lots of peppers and onions and SALT. The dish was so salty I could hardly eat it. When I told our waiter, he made some joke about talking with the cook and that was it. My wife's Chimi was good as were the rice and beans. Not a total loss but far below what we've got in the past. I think we'll try some place different next year. Sad. read more

This place is just horrible all around. Not good customer service. Rude. Out of menu items. Makes you change your order multiple times. Served everyone food then came back and says have to change that too. He then recommended a plate. I was starving so I took it. But it looks so gross it wasn't ate and went to waste. Biggest mistake! Excellent restaurant!! Very close to the border and right next to where you make line to come back to the U.S. We ordered the chicken Enchiladas with a Coke, some Al pastor tacos and horchata for lunch, and a delicious fried Ice Cream for just $4 usd. Really good size for the price. While we waited for the food they brought warm chips which appeared to be made in house not the store bought kind, many dips to choose from. Before we left we ordered 2 "Chabellas" which are a mix of your favorite beer, Clamato, lemon, and powdered chili. Staff was really friendly and owner came to check on us to make sure we were doing well. Definitely recommend this place to others interested in a relaxed friendly environment with good music, food and better service. read more
