Ordered take-out. Was quoted 15minutes for my pescado (fish tacos). Took more like 20minutes but that was okay. Staff were very nice as I just waited in the entrance area. There is a small patio and I overheard that you cannot reserve it (first come first serve) and you can only sit in groups of 2. Restaurant was 70% full Tuesday at 7PM. Tacos were super fresh. Didn't really like the corn tortilla flavor but I like they use 2 wraps per taco. Fish was a good portion but $18 for 2 tacos + tax + tip it becomes quite pricey. Had to choose between beans and rice as a side and chose beans. I really liked them, good texture, great flavor. I was happy they threw in a small hot sauce as well. Well, this was the start of a great date night. Busy so good thing wife made a reservation! We came hungary, and left barely able to breathe! Our server was SUPER nice, and the drinks and food took us back to Mexico times. Even after all the food, we had to make room for CHURROS!! D - LICIOUS!!!!! Holy smokes- I have to say, this is easily the best local Mexican joint in the YEG area. It doesn't look like much from the outside- when I rolled up I kind of wondered if I was in the wrong place. We had a 7:30 reservation- our table wasn't ready, we had to wait about 10 min. I wasn't too flustered though, the fact that they were packed on a Sunday night just reinforced that we were in foe a delicious evening. We started with the flauntas for an appetizer, which was delicious. Highly recommend. I had the chicken tacos. The flavours were soooo good. The tortillas were perfect. I will say the hot sauce is not hot. I like really hot sauces, so this was my only complaint- flavourful nonetheless. We finished off with churros and oh dear lord were they amazing. The only thing I will say is that our waitress, although she checked in on us sufficiently and made sure we had what we needed, I got a very unfriendly vibe from her. That said, I couldn't put my finger on what it was- maybe facial expression or tone... but not blatant enough to affect my score in any way! 5 stars! Maybe even 6! Choose any 3 of their flavours to create your own platter (each order is about $17ish so you're saving a bit of money) They come on double tortillas so you could technically split them up & double your taco count. We've always really enjoyed the food here but felt the chicken was dry and under seasoned this time - our favourite barbacoa was fabulous as always. I also like to add a side of rice. Started with the queso ($23) & housemade chips (because I thought it'd be better value than chips + guac + salsa for $19.) Cheese is also good in tacos! Heard about La Patrona from a coworker of mine. I can't believe I didn't find out about this place sooner because IT'S FREAKING AWESOME. The food is top notch - good portion sizes and it tastes amazing! The horchata? Made in house, and you can totally taste the difference; no chalkiness to it whatsoever. I'd buy it by the jug if I could. They do, however, sell their sauces by the bottle. We were there on a Wednesday, which was tamales night, available in house or you can take some frozen ones home. (tamales got the two thumbs up from my husband) Nice, efficient service. The servers are Spanish speaking, which I feel lends to the authenticity of the restaurant. I was in the Sherwood park area and found this place on google with high reviews. My partner and I were able to get a seat at their community table (a long table where you share with other customers) without any reservations. We tried the Asada Torta with fried egg and the Suadero Taco. Both were delicious!! The meat was juicy and flavourful. The sauces complemented the food. The portions were filling and reasonable for the price. It's definitely ranks high among the Mexican restaurants in the city. The only problem with my experience was the long wait time. We probably waited 30-40 minutes for the food. The server apologized to us for the long wait time and said it isn't usually like this. Food took a while to come out but should be expected around five o'clock on a Saturday so with that in mind, make sure to give a drink or two a go. Our server mentioned the feature cocktail enough to pique the interest of the whole table. If you're driving or simply don't partake settle into good conversation with your dining mates, because it's as cozy as can be. Location is charmingly small but adds quality intimacy, it's a tad dark and so are the menus so don't fear your flashlight if you forgo the QR code menu option. If you look to the right of the bar you can glimpse the inner workings of the kitchen, they do well to hide their secrets despite the view. In short, try it before everyone else does. My first time here. I love the ambiance of this place. Great music and it smells delicious. Ordered a Paloma. It was the best one I've ever had. Next time a spicy margarita. Really enjoy this restaurant. The food is absolutely solid. We didn't realized on Tuesdays that they have a taco platter for $44 which allows you to pick 3 different kinds of tacos. We picked it because we wanted lighter option but it ended up being the heaviest! Not a complaint, just an observation. I've been here twice now and even though the visits were far apart, the food has stayed constantly tasty. Today was a gathering of 3 for Christmas lunch. I called ahead to make a lunch reservation (they recommend it for lunch and I would too if you have more than 2 people) as I recall how busy I was last time I went for supper (we had made a reservation back then then too). It wasn't packed at lunch but the place was definitely busy for the first Saturday of the new year. There's raised booths along the wall and all the other seating is regular table height. This is a smaller restaurant but has tasteful decor, fast service and very tasty food. We started with the totopos (chips, guac & salsa) while we waited for our meals. There's plenty of chips served with this and let's just say no guac was left behind! We did our very best to finish the salsa by adding it to our lunch options. My friends ordered enchiladas de pollo and tortilla soup. I went with the al pastor tacos (comes with 5 smaller tacos and some beans on the side). The hot sauce on the side was deliciously spicy & sweet. They also had additional hot sauce on the table which for even me that likes spice, was definitely on the hotter side of life. So apply with caution if you decide to raise the spiciness level. My friends kept on commenting on how fresh everything tasted. We were all very happy with our selections and very full. Yet somehow found a little room to share tres leches cake. So glad we did as it was the perfect way to end the meal! Light, fluffy cake that seemed to be soaked in milk and topped with a generous portion of real whipped cream and fruit. After running some errands in Sherwood Park, we decided to grab some takeout to eat at home. La Patrona showed up near that top on Yelp and when I saw they had one of my all-time favourite dishes on the menu, chile relleno, I knew I had to try it. As soon as I got home and put my meal on a plate, I knew it was going to be good. I can only imagine how much better their food looks when you can dine in. First few bites were incredible. The batter covering the poblano melted in your mouth and the sauce was a great compliment. I devoured the whole thing pretty quickly and I regret nothing. Right now they are offering some of their signature margaritas to go along with a variety of house made sauces and salsas. The restaurant is pretty tiny so I'd definitely recommend a reservation when things get back to normal. The food is absolutely worth the drive in from Edmonton but that being said, I'd hate to drive all the way to Sherwood Park only to find out I couldn't get a table. You need this Chorizo Con Queso torta in your life. I got it with a fried egg and habanero relish, resulting in more agony for my long-suffering chittar-hole, but whatever. The standard edition comes with feta, mozzarella, avocado, tomatoes, refried beans, chipotle mayo, and Mexican-style pork sausage. I feel this thing was tailor-made for me because it's rare for a Mexican dish not to rely on cilantro and onions. Without these dreaded ingredients, I can enjoy Mexican cuisine's beauty and don't have to worry about the aftertaste of soap and brown-guy body odour. Unfortunately, my taste receptors are unresponsive to avocado, but the nutrient-rich fruit is good for my bones, vision, and heart. And it reduces my chances of getting cancer and depression. Other than the avocado, I savoured every element of the sandwich. Each bite resulted in these reddish juices, comprised of heavenly grease and salt, trickling down my fingers and wrists. Rather than cleaning my hands with a napkin, I excused myself, taking a trip to my car to lick the sticky fluids off my hirsute hands - it was delicious, and I'm not ashamed of my savagery. I then sanitized my hands before re-entering the restaurant for dessert. You have to try this torta. It's mind-blowingly good. We went here for lunch one weekend. We have been here numerous times. I find that the service is spotty. Either it is really good or really slow. We decided on splitting a few things. The street quesadillas which were the special of the day, the Cubano sandwich, and the fish tacos. I also ordered a Mexican Mule. This time the food came out in a slow manner. Last time not so much. The cocktail was well made and delicous. We really enjoyed the quesidillas. They were properly made, flavourful and good value. The pescoados tacos were good, but certainly not the best I have had. And normally when we go places we get three in an order and not two. I really did enjoy the amount of colourful veggies on the dish. It made it vibrant and engaging to eat. Too bad that the fish was so tiny in the tacos and not a great deal for 16 bucks. The best fish tacos in the area? Go to Spotlight Cabaret. For the same price you get 3 flavourful huge fish tacos. The real disappointnet was the Cubano. Sloppily made and not hot enough. If you look at the photo the cheese wasn't melted. And it lacked flavour. We would have sent it back but we had to pick up our kid from the sitter and was in a rush and we were hungry. And it wasn't bad. It just wasn't good. What irritates me the most is on the website they say, "Where we treat you like family." I think I have have been here 8 times and I never found the service warm. Fast sometimes - warm not. It is also uncomfortable to sit in. I think as the competition goes up with all the new Latino eateries, we will come here less. I think they have gotten comfortable with thier reputation that things have slowly gone downhill. We probably will be back but not anytime soon. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to La Patrona. I went here on a Valentine's date with my boyfriend, he'd never been before but it was just as wonderful as I remember. I ordered the shrimp tacos with a lime margarita. Both were amazing. The shrimp were beer battered on shredded lettuce pickled onion with this Mayo Chipotle drizzle it came with a side of guacamole and rice. So so good! They even had live music that weekend so it was basically like we went to Mexico in Sherwood park! This place has been on my list since long time so finally, i decided to check this off from my list on Friday by planning a dinner date with my husband. Wow! If you want some top notch Mexican you have to go here! What a hidden gem! Amazing amazing food! Our friends treated us here with a gift card- funny enough the gift card didn't have the name of the restaurant on it just their symbol. We had a selection of their tacos and they were all fantastic tasty morsels with great flavours and unique combinations. From the refreshing pineapple cilantro to pickled onion and pork. We started with the Totopos, the fresh tortilla chips were a great appetizer to start us off. We also had the Hugo Taco which has delightful flavour and was the groups favourite. We definitely recommend it. There is parking as this place is part of a complex. This place started as a food truck but I'm glad it has a set space. It was a little tight quarters inside the restaurant itself but we still managed to squeeze in with our stroller although I wouldn't recommend it for the next person. We have been looking for good Mexican food in the Edmonton area since we moved back here about 4 years ago. After living in Phoenix for 15 years we enjoyed a lot of great Mexican food. My wife is a bit of a Mexican food junkie. We are glad we found this restaurant. Excellent service. Friendly staff. I had the Tacos Gringa and my wife had the Taco Al Pastor. They were both excellent. Quite tasty. Our only complaint was the miniscule size of the side of refried beans. While the food was excellent, and we'll likely come here again, we do think the prices are probably 10-15% higher than we think would make this a great value. read more

What started out as a popular food truck (Casa12Doce) became an actual restaurant in 2017, helmed by a chef who was born and raised in Mexico City. Sherwood Park's La Patrona is another great example of the vibrant Latin community that the Edmonton area is fortunate enough to boast. Voted #1 Worth the Trip: Sherwood Park 2018 in VUE Weekly, I was really looking forward to making the (short) trip myself. The restaurant is located in a particularly nice and rustic-looking shopping area where a lot of beautiful wood is used on the façade and as beams. The inside is alive with colours while also maintaining a very cool exposed-concrete-and-tin kind of industrial look. There are nods to Mexico everywhere, from the beautiful Día de Muertos skulls to the amazing music playing through the speakers. I loved the hanging string lights and the overall lively atmosphere. The staff was incredibly warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. The vibe of the restaurant demanded a Traditional Margarita (El Jimador, Triple Sec, fresh lime shaken over ice then strained - $9.00)! They have a bunch of great cocktails on the menu and of course plenty of cerveza, but it had to be the margarita for me. They offer it in four different flavours (classic lime being the original) and they also rotate a special flavour of the day. On my visit they were doing a spicy mango one and I had to give that a try. If you ever see a margarita made in one of those slush machines - just know that that isn't the way that a real margarita is made. At first sip this drink was like a punch to the face! It was both boozy and spicy and didn't shy away from being packed full of huge flavours. I loved the spicy rim and the actual pieces of jalapeno floating within the drink. The juicy mango flavour worked really well to create that coveted spicy/sweet combination. Not for the faint of heart, this margarita is the real deal. They also serve horchata, one of my favourite non-alcoholic drinks. I look forward to trying their version in the future. The food menu was full of lots of things that I wanted to eat and I began with the Para Empezar section to get started. They've got a tortilla soup, which I always love (must try next time!), but I had to select the Queso Fundido (Melted cheese in a piping hot skillet served with wheat tortillas for dipping and fresh salsa Mexicana - $21.00) which literally translates to "melted cheese." You know that you want that. It comes in one of those sizzling cast iron skillets that will definitely burn you. But I can think of nothing better than a bubbling pan of hot melty cheese with golden brown crispy edges. I absolutely loved the ultra-fresh tortillas, which are very clearly housemade and have a beautiful light flavour. The molten, oozing cheese was surprisingly herbaceous and I was caught off guard by all of the delicious seasoning that goes into this dish. The bright salsa was a wonderful way to bring in a fresh component. Each bite was a delight. If you're a cheese lover (who isn't?!) this is most certainly the dish of your dreams. La Patrona is well stocked with many types of tacos and tortas to choose from. They've got eleven different tacos and eight different tortas, each one sounding delicious in its own way. Most people probably select from this part of the menu and I'm sure that it's a solid choice every time. However, I was interested in the De Mi Casa section of the menu which seems to be where the true authentic offerings are found, straight from the chef's home and heritage. The chile relleno sounded absolutely incredible and it's what I will be ordering on my next visit. This time I went with the Enchiladas de Pollo (Corn tortillas stuffed with seasoned chicken topped with your choice of Salsa Tomate (mild), Salsa Verde (medium) or Roja (spicy) sauce. Baked with cheese and served with onion, tomato, avocado and cilantro - $24.00) since I loves me an enchilada. A classic Mexican dish, I always enjoy this saucy, cheesy, savoury mixture of hot and fresh flavours. I had mine with the medium salsa verde, which added a beautiful green hue to the entire plate. The corn tortillas had a nice bite to them, enveloping the shredded chicken within. I enjoyed the heat and freshness from the salsa verde very much and made sure to cover each bite with plenty of it. The melty, gooey cheese was one of the best parts and the tomato and avocado did a nice job of balancing out the dish. The portion is large and the flavours feel quite authentic. The dessert menu at La Patrona is awesome because they've got all of the hits! Churros? Yup. Tres leches cake? My favourite! But the most unique item is their Chocolate Jalapeno Cake (House made chocolate cake layered with jalapeno jelly, chocolate ganache and a coffee crumble.
