Ever since I was in Mexico, I loved Mexican food.. and I am not talking about Taco Bell ( insert gross emoji ) or Del Taco etc.. I am talking real authentic Mexican food. I was visiting a friend in Leduc and we walked by Habaneros.. the smell was amazing... I asked how long have they been here? Apparently about 4 yrs.. OK well I will give it a shot and see how good it is. As I looked at the menu, the owner came up and gave me a few recommendations.. mahi mahi tacos were highly recommended. I decided to order those. While I waited, I walked around and there was a real Mexican feel to the place.. authentic furnishings, paintings on the wall ( the one on the South wall looks really good ) and Mexican music playing on the speakers. As for the tacos, I got the Mahi Mahi ones and a side of rice and beans. The rice was pretty plain ( not the kind I was expecting ) and there was just a little bit of it ( which was good because there is nothing worst than a BLEEP load of rice ). The tacos were not smothered with all the condiments that would take away the flavor of the protein - which is what I like . Fish was perfectly battered and had a nice crunch to it. Unfortunately we cant sit inside or outside - due to restrictions... I wanted to really just sit there, eat tacos and have a margarita ( or two .. OK 3 .. come on it's nice outside ). But I took it home to eat. Yes I would definitely come back when we can actually eat inside or even on a patio. Now the funnier part. Went here for a birthday dinner with friends. Parking is limited here, but there are free parking spots along the street as well. It's a little dim and rustic inside and a little tight for entry & exit to the restaurant when inside, but there is hand sanitizer at the entrance. There is also a section for group reservation and outdoor seating as well. They've got the Mexican music that helps add to the vibe. Washrooms were clean and they have high chairs available plus kids menus. Kids menu is a pretty good deal, the portions I'd say would suit older kids- my 4 & 8 year old could only eat half. Pop & ice cream are also included with kids meals. If you order a fajita, they ring a bell when order is up and it's delivered to your table sizzling on the skillet. I'd say portion is decent for what you pay for. The horchata had almost a citrus taste to it which was not what I expected, but not too bad, went really well paired with the salsa & chips. There is hard copy menu (slightly outdated) but also QR scan menu. I like how the menu lists the heat level on each of the salsas. My husband had the black Diablo salsa. A few of our friends also tried it, they liked the flavour, but the heat was definitely strong. We also tried the milder green (Guasacaca) & the yellow (apocaliptica). My kids could easily tolerate the green rated salsa and I enjoyed the flavour burst from the apocaliptica- had a heat that I could somewhat surprisingly tolerate well to enjoy both heat & flavour. Our server also refilled the chips at no extra cost. I had the al pastor, although the meat was more moist than other restaurants, the flavour was not as strong, so the salsa (from the chips & salsa) brought it up a notch. Rice & beans were just okay. But overall I'd have to say the flavour profile of all the dishes I tried were excellent with bold flavours tempered with more bland items for a good balance. The non alcoholic beverage selection was great- lime slush was tasty. The size of the choco chango is humongous btw... definitely great for sharing. They also have takeout boxes too for your leftovers. Service here was friendly, steady & quick, I'd almost say it was family run if I didn't know any better. If your party is larger than 8, they automatically add gratuity too. I've been wanting to try this place for years, and we finally made the last-minute decision to drive out for a dinner date! Habaneros did NOT disappoint. We started off with the 2-Salsa Sampler and tried the Sanluqueña and Scorpion Sting...WOWZAS! Great taste and tons of heat! Although we love spicy food, the Scorpion Sting was on the verge of being a touch too spicy but we plan to use it with our cooking! (And we WERE warned that it packed a punch!) I got the Pollo Chicken Tacos and my husband got the Camarones a la Diabla, and both were FANTASTIC. The refried beans were amazing too - one of the best I've tasted in recent years! We were packing our leftovers up and decided we had to try the churros despite being super full, and those also didn't disappoint! You get a lot of food (we have leftovers for at least a couple of meals) and it all tastes authentically delicious! We had a night away in Leduc for a rest and when I asked on Facebook where I should eat, this was highly recommended. I can see why. The place itself is pleasant with enought trinkets to make you feel like you are in a Mexican restuarant, but nothing outstandish. The service was slow, but it was becauase that I simply think there wasn't enough wait staff for the tables. Our servers tagged each other off and did there best but the place was full and for two servers I could see how it would be overwhelming. Since it also seemed that the servers that did the cocktails which is not usual in an establishment. Kuddos to them. Management, you shoudl look at getting them more support during busy hours. That is why a star is deducited here. Nothing to do with the service itself but the management. Our Caesars were amazing. I got the jalapeno ceasar while my husban got the momia caesar. Both were amazing. Go there for this alone. WE started with the salsa sampler and we chose the salsa Verda, funky red salvina, and the sol de maya. We agreed that the sol de maya was perfect. The Savina was stinking hot but it was advertised as such. I took the leftovers home to add a teaspoon to soup stock when needed. The Verde was spoken highly of by the server but it was not much different then the jars that we buy at the Latino market. Sikip this one. For mains I chose the Enchilada a la Diabla. It doesn't look pretty on the photo but it was bang on delicosu for flavours. I judge Latino restaurants on their refried beans which to me is a barometer on how much a restaurant cares about thier food. If they do, it will be a home made, well done dish. If not they will open a can and slop it on. These are the best i have eaten. And thier diabla sauce on the enchiladas was amazing. When we arrived we were met by a very unprofessional hostess. She asked if we had a reservation and I said no because we had just called and asked if we required one and were told no you do not, i kid gou not she rolled her eyes! We should have walked out because this was only the beginning! We asked if we could be seated on the lower sections as I have leg and knee issues and even a few steps can be painful. What did she do? She took us to the top level and put as as far towards the windows as possible. The server arrived and asked if she could take our drink order we said yes. Some ordered alcohol some did not. My grandson asked for white milk. She came back and said I'm sorry we are out of white milk. He then said may I have choclate milk? She came back and said we dont have any chocolate milk. He said may I have juice? She said no, but you can have pop. He asked for root beer. No root beer. Oh we have ginger ale. He accepted ginger ale. This is a rare kid that does not like pop! We proceeded to order. There was 1 kids meal. He asked for Ceasars salad. He got regular salad. (Probably didn't have Cesar salad like the milk), my husband an I ordered the double steak fajitas to split. Literally, we counted. 7 pieces of steak and the table beside us had a helping pile of steak on theirs. That's why we ordered it. Asked the server and we got oh I'm new I don't know why. My husband asked for a 2 oz portion of the hottest salsa they had to accompany the fajitas. We received this after asking 3 times and it came just as we finished dinner. My sons refried beans on his meal were cold. My daughter asked for a burrito with sour cream. She had to ask for the sour cream twice. We were never asked if eveeything was OK but we did flag her down for the few things that i mentioned and we just gave up. Drinks wern't replenished. Water nwver came. The bill arrived alright of course and we waiting 15 minutes for the server to come with the machine after asking for it. We were so disappointed with this restaurant. It's been a couple of years since I've been to Habaneros (mostly because I was out of the country for a while). But a friend was coming in from out of town and wanted Mexican food, and well in Leduc it's this or Taco Bell (and Habaneros is much better). I know the service and waiting times have a been a bit off and on here in the past. We were here for lunch and it was not very busy, a few tables, but not crazy. Our waitress was quite friendly, and it didn't take too long for our drinks and food to come out. Every table gets a small basket of chips and salsa. And chips and salsa is always good. I ordered the torta ahogada, which is a giant hot sandwich (on like a bun). It's got meat, refried beans, and cheese in the filling (like all tortas), but the ahogada part means it's covered red enchilada sauce. Google transalte tells me ahogada means drowned apparently. It was delicious. My meal came with a side of rice and refried beans. The meal was very filling. We ate about 1pm, and I wasn't hungry again until 10pm. It was really too cold to sit o the patio, but we did not have a choice so we decided to brave the chill. We had came here because the website said they make their own salsa, so we started with a salsa sampler. All seemed good here. Out honest we went was the scorpion version and it was hot. I don't know if I would eant hotter. Other two were good too, but I can't remember the names. I had a steak fajitas very good. The steak was a but tough, but not too bad. And everything else as expected. Tony had a chimichanga. At first he said it did not have much meat. But then he got to the meat side and was happy. And it was very big. We would like to try as we saw there are mixed reviews for this business We ordered Carne Asada Tacos and Ceviche del Mar to share. The Carne Asada was plain. Slices of grilled beef lost the juiciness and flavour of seasonings. Rice was well-seasoned but undercooked. I still found hardness pieces of rice. My bf was asking the hottest hot sauce they have inside the tacos but he didn't feel the heat so he had to ask another side of their hottest hot sauce. Ceviche del Mar was too much lime. The sourness from lime and tomatoes killed the taste of fish and seafood itself. It was unbearable for me to finish the dish even for my boyfriend whom I asked to help. I understand why the owners have Tex-Mex and Canadianized menu aside the traditional dishes judging by the crowds. But if they can keep the traditional dishes more authentic that would be a greater point for them. Wow, such mixed reviews for this joint! For me, I thoroughly enjoyed Habaneros Mexican Grill and will definitely be back. The prices were reasonable. $17.99 for 3 tacos, with rice and refried beans. Or sub one for more of the other, or sub both for fries or salad. I have definitely paid that for tacos in the city without any sides. Everything was pretty tasty, and the meat was moist. The tortilla soup was quite nice too, very nice flavour. They have a large patio which was very nice for a hot summer day. Service was fast and friendly. I so so so wanted to love Habaneros and was excited after seeing a fellow Yelper, Alouise, gives it 5 stars. Also, I should be fair and mention that I love LOVE love Mexican food! I grew up in the U.S. and Mexican food to me there was like donairs and liquor stores seem to be to Alberta. Unfortunately, my visit earlier this month for my birthday was anything but pleasant. We came in a group of 6 including two yard apes; yes, I can call them that... they are my children ;-) We started off by ordering chips, salsa, and guacamole - the flavours weren't anything outstanding and us grownups weren't really impressed at all by the tri-colour chips. For a small portion of guacamole, we were charged $4. Next we ordered 3 margaritas and a kid friendly margarita. I found it odd that of our 3 margaritas, 1 came about 1/3 empty compared to the other 2 which were full. The margarita glasses are the smallest I have ever been served and they were on the pricier side as well. I just checked their online menu and prices aren't listed there for me to reference. Next up, we shared the appetizer platter - it was pricier than most (+$20) as well and when I went to bite into my first bite of chicken there was a hair in it These things happen, but it really set the tone for the rest of the meal. It took awhile to flag down our waitress, who to her credit was busily helping others. There honestly wasn't a single thing on the appetizer platter that any of us at the table would want to order again. For me, it's a standard to always order fajitas at a Mexican restaurant. I ordered the steak variety with a chili lime seasoning. I really couldn't taste any special seasoning and the plate was mostly filled with onions. The tortillas came separately and one of them had a huge hole in the middle - I mean, the tortilla was basically a snowflake. We also ordered the fish tacos, usually a favourite of ours, but there was SO MUCH sauce that we couldn't eat them at all. My husband will usually finish anything I don't like and even he took one bite and said no thank you. The rice and beans were to their credit, delicious! Another main ordered at our table were the chicken quesadillas; nothing wrong with them but certainly nothing spectacular either. And the last main ordered was the Habanero Enchiladas and these were actually quite good. If I had to come eat here again, this is what I would order. My children were okay with their kids' meals - tacos and chicken fingers but I did find the kids' meals also priced high and they didn't include a drink or dessert. So why call it a kids' meal? It's more like a small portion of an entree. In total our bill was $160ish which I found quite high in price and overwhelmingly lacking in quality. Even if there hadn't been a long strand of hair through my entire piece of chicken or if the fish tacos hadn't been swimming in sauce (we literally didn't even eat one fish taco), I still wouldn't come back. I also found, after paying, that I had been overcharged on an item. My husband doesn't care for shrimp, so we had subbed shrimp out of his enchilada and had shredded pork at the recommendation of the server. Upon reviewing the bill after paying, I noticed we were charged an extra $3 for pork when we had been told there would be no charge. It's funny, because the month prior we had been in Leduc and almost tried Habanero's and pulled up but some guy out front had said, don't bother... it's not very good food. So we had ventured down the road and fell in love with The Sushi Factory. I guess I should have listened to the stranger's warning. Hasta Nunca Habaneros, it wasn't meant to be. I'd give them a 1 star on food alone, but the atmosphere itself was vibrant and reminded me of Mexican restaurants back home. There were numberous televisions around to keep up on the latest game score. Giving Habaneros a one star seems rather cruel, so I'll stick with the recommended Yelp ratings where 2 stars = Meh, I've experienced better. read more

I really liked the decor here, but I'm biased because I love Day of the Dead things. The service was very friendly but we were waiting for a bit before our food came out. Chips and salsa keep you occupied while you wait, and though a bit runny/bland, we liked that it was made in house. We tried the Frankenstein wings - loved the sauce!! The wings themselves were delicious: juicy, hot and crispy coated. We ordered the cilantro sour cream with the wings and I kept it for my meal, I enjoyed it so much. The chile rellenos was ok. Lots of flavour and ground meat (similar to taco meat) in the pepper (one comes in the order) with a side of rice and beans. Good, but expensive for what you get. The chimichanga came with your choice of meat, and we went with beef. Wrong choice - it was very, very bland. Like, no seasoning of any kind bland. It was basically a bit of pulled beef, lots of rice and peppers/onions wrapped in a tortilla and fried. A big fajita, if you will. Again, for the price, I wanted more meat. Went with a group of friends for lunch on Sunday. We were seated quickly however the service was extremely slow. Over an hour to get appetizers. Food came out at different times. Positive: food is very tasty Negative: extremely slow service - not the fault of the wait staff. The kitchen needs more staff or a expediter. Two and 1/2 hours total time for lunch. So we decided to go here as we have heard great things about this place, my husband works in Leduc but we live in Edmonton. We were at the outlet mall and decided why not! We took my father in law with us, even though he is not a spicy food fan but we were sure there would be something he could eat and there was. He had some El Toro Grande and it was delicious! This was Saturday night and it wasn't too busy, OUR waitress was great....I say OUR waitress due to the payment issue we had at the end of our meal that left a bad taste in our mouth. First off, my in laws are not tippers due to them thinking it is not a common practice. We however are, we always get the tip at the end of a meal with them regardless of where, in cash usually. I asked the bar woman for change for a $20.00 she looked rather annoyed as she was making drinks which I totally understood, said it would be a few minutes. Then I said, oh our waitress should have money in her apron as she mentioned hers purse/apron money, she said I have no idea what she has!? Quite off putting attitude, so I waited until our waitress came back....she didn't another one took our payment. She when asked for change for a $20.00 as my father in law is making the payment said "I have no money in here, the bosses left and we have no money in our floats?" She was overly snappy and rude when asked and looked at me with disbelief I was asking here. I asked her does the till have change, she said I have no clue!?? She had to have known we were asking for tip change....as she clearly saw when the payment was made there was no tip?! We moved to leduc and thankfully they have some pretty dang good choices for places to eat here! Habaneros being one of them! It's actually got a serious Mexican vibe going on in there. Service is usually really good and we have never had an issue with the food! The salsa verde enchiladas are sooo spicy and exactly how I like them! The amount of food for the price is ridiculous. I have never finished my plate and this girl knows how to eat! We also have enjoyed the wings, salsa, salad, and tacos. This was my second visit to Habaneros- my family is a huge fan of the chicken wings so we decided to swing by for lunch. The entrance of the restaurant is a bit tough to see from the back, and you might be left hanging out there for a while until somebody spots you. Our server was okay, though not very friendly. My folks were especially fond of the garlic Parmesan wings, and she flatly told them they aren't available anymore. The starter chips and dip were a nice start to the meal- I'm always a fan of complementary appies. I noticed that the menu seemed drastically overpriced compared to similar restaurants in Edmonton, and for the actual price of ingredients used. So I was a bit disappointed about that. My folks found some other flavors to try for their wings, and were happy with their meals. I'm one of those weirdos that can't handle cilantro- it tastes like soap! I asked if it was possible to make my fish tacos without, and the server said it was no problem. However, my tacos arrived covered in a cilantro packed salsa and I had to be that person and asked for her to have them remade. I've never done that in my life. It was a bit strange that she had set them down and when I mentioned the cilantro she just commented "oh yeah, it's in the sauce. I told them not to put it on." When my cilantro-free tacos arrived a while later (after my folks had finished eating) I noticed they were pretty bland and not very tasty. I tried adding a plain salsa, but I think they were missing some spice and pizzaz. The rice and beans were okay, and I appreciated the big portion size for the price. So you take a trip to Mexico, right? And suddenly you get a craving for some polar bear sausage fried in seal fat, right? You're kinda out of luck, eh? It would sure seem so. But what if, as you were walking through a rural village outside of Mexico City, you spied an igloo mixed in with the Adobe huts. You go inside and sit down in the light of a whale oil lamp to a meal of polar bear and seal. It'd be a bit ironic, eh? My experience wasn't quite the equivalent but it did seem a bit ironic that I was taken to a Mexican restaurant on my way up to the far northern Alberta bush. Come to think of it, it probably wasn't very ironic at all but that's the way it seemed at the time. Truth be told, it did seem a bit Canadianized. The menus looked a bit unauthentic and I didn't see a single Mexican in the place. Inside was kind of a clutter but not overly unpleasantly so. But truth be told again, it was a decent experience. We had a party of fifteen and we were all taken care of nicely. The waitress was nice; we got all our food; and I didn't hear any real complaints. I got tamales, which tasted quite fine actually. Habaneros is a hidden gem! I stumbled across Habaneros and have told several people about it since. The have a great menu with many options (check out the menu before you get there, so many great choices!) The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is an excellent spot for a night out with friends or drinks with coworkers. We had the chimichanga, taquitos, and, for dessert, the choco-changa. Oh Habaneros, how I looked forward to dining with you. Unfortunately, our experience was not so good. Out of nearly a dozen items ordered at our table, there is only one any of us would order again. Food did not come out in a timely or logical fashion and the food value and quality were all over the map (including mistakes, a hair in our food, and some items that none of us enjoyed at our table). While I do appreciate the ample television screens throughout the restaurant and bar to keep me up to date in all things sports, it's not enough to bring me back. read more

This is my second trip back to Habeneros and I really quite enjoy this place. We sat outside and we came just in time before it started to get a little busier. Ordered the sizzling steak fajitas to which I enjoyed. The waitress was friendly and we all enjoyed our meal (my family). Would definitely go back. read more

I wish I could give this more stars - I love Mexican food, but the total experience was disappointing on all counts with the exception of service - our waitress could not have been any more helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately, the food was "meh" and the drinks were less than "meh" - my margarita was served in a relatively small glass and wasn't more than 2/3 full, not salted, and had a strange aftertaste, as though there was some sort of chemical residue in the glass. Our party of four adults and two children ran up a surprisingly high tab, with only one person truly happy with their meal. (Well, okay, the 3 year old liked his chicken tenders, if I'm being fair). The appetizer platter had a few nice items, others were blah, and one piece had a hair cooked in it (they did deduct the cost from our bill, thank you). If you love fajitas, I'd suggest you not order them - it was a platter piled high with onions, some peppers, and very little meat. The quesidillas, sounding fabulous on the menu, were dry and uninspiring. Whatever sauce was in the fish tacos was distasteful to all of us - the plate came with three and two were returned untouched. It saddens me to be such a Debbie Downer about the restaurant - maybe it was just an off night - but I highly doubt I'd give it another try. I'm glad to see other reviewers had a better experience and hope that is more usual for them. read more
