Really delicous place to get some authentic Mexican food. Love the inside. Not much to look at from the outside but gorgeous inside. Full of bright colours and interesting mural and interesting art all over. Seating isn't exactly comfortable but otherwise a fun plae to dine. Menu is fantastic. There are so many things to try. They have appitizers, tacos, street food, and larger mains. Be sure to check out the dessert display case. We didn't have the room for dessert but it looks amazing. Oh and there is a plentiful drink menu. Ceviche was on special and I love that so we ordered it. It contained cubed wite fish marinated in lime juice, and mixxed with pico de Gallo and tooped with avocado. It ws served with tortilla chips. It was fresh and delicious. I would order this again. My husband went with the enchilada suizas which w was 3 tortillas filled with shredded chicken baked in salsa verde. It was rich, filling , and tasty. I ordered the plato de la abuela wich had a bit of everything. It contained rice, beans, potatoes, tortillas and you can pick your filling. I went with fish and beef. Massive portions and it was really tasty too. i especially like the fish filling. I had leftovers for the next day. IF you are indecive this is a good way to go. A fantastic place for enjoying Mexican cuisine! I absolutely love it. In their busy hours, there would be a lineup and some wait time and parking would be a bit challenging but it has never stopped us from going there. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I love the interior design. It has nice colours, interesting decorations and helps having a more cheerful and authentic experience! I'm happy that I finally had the opportunity to try this place. The service was great. We were promptly great and seated upon arrival. The food was quite tasty and the prices seemed reasonable. We ordered the chicharron de queso, suadero, and pescado tacos. The tacos were delicious. It was $22 for 4 tacos and you could select 2 different flavours. They didn't skimp on the meat and toppings so it was filling. The chicharron de queso was just a big shell of crispy deep fried cheese. It came with salsa and guacamole. It was good but I wouldn't get it again next time. I'd rather spend $21 on a different item. There's a parking lot out front but it's not very big. I could see parking being a challenge on a very busy night. I liked the colour scheme and decor. It went with their brand and vibe. Looking forward to coming back again! read more

The Meal was amazing! The staff were also amazing. BECAREFUL!!! with the bill. As the wait staff did not inform me that they added 20 percent tip to my overall bill ahead of the prompt on the visa machine. I was not told this and of course it is my bad that I did not review the bill carefully. In the end they ended up with a 45 percent tip!!!! This might get a little bit confusing but Luna used to be called Huma. Huma opened in 2015 and quickly rose to be one of the most favoured Mexican restaurants in the city. Then, quite suddenly and for no apparent reason, Huma closed. However, the closure was brief and the restaurant re-opened as the newly reborn Luna. Same location, practically the same menu, same chef. (Chef Mariel!) I'm not sure what mysterious circumstances lead to all of this but I do know that the restaurant is open once again and thriving! The Edmonton Journal named Luna the Best Mexican Restaurant 2020 and for a city with many different Mexican options this says quite a lot. I visited on a Saturday evening and joined the rest of their customers in the packed house. Located on a busy corner in Hazeldean, one would likely not assume that such a good Mexican restaurant exists in a strip mall with traffic buzzing by. But it does, and you can't possibly miss their bright purple awning and signage. The vibrancy carries to the inside, where you are met with a colourful feast for the eyes. Everywhere that you look is something bright and beautiful to see. My favourite part of the decor might be the massive and gorgeous mural that features many creatures, best of all being Chef Mariel herself riding an axolotl. (It might not be Chef Mariel but I've decided that it is.) Beyond the mural, there's a monochrome hot pink feature wall full of interesting Mexican knickknacks. I also really love the sparkling star-shaped pendent lighting in the center of the room. Really, wherever you look there is something interesting to see. The care and detail that went into creating this space is over the top. It's really special. Seated at our table, our friendly server was extremely attentive even though literally every table in the restaurant became occupied during our visit. You could tell that there were a large number of regulars and that there was a mutual familiarity in the air among the customers. People love Luna and it's their place. To drink, you know that they've got beer like Corona and Sol and that margaritas are number one. (I'm getting a margarita next time for sure!) But they also serve Horchata ($4.50) which is my non-alcoholic favourite and I needed to try Luna's version. Served in a nice big glass, this might have been some of the best horchata that I've ever tasted. Flavoured with rice, cinnamon, vanilla, and almonds, this horchata was creamy and full of flavour. The nuttiness and hint of spice really came though! Certainly not watered down, this is the horchata that you need in your life. Three different types of salsa were also delivered to our table to use with... Anything. All of it! Roja, Verde, and Habanero. Two were green and one was red, each featuring a different level of spice. All delicious. The starter section of the menu is full of things that you want to eat. It's kinda difficult to choose only one. I noted the queso fundido which reminded me of a trip that I took to Mexico with friends where we all became obsessed with ordering the very same dish. However, the most famous item on Luna's menu as got to be the Chicharrón de Queso (A giant cornucopia of crispy cheese. Served with pico de gallo and guacamole - $20.00) which might be one of the most impressive things that you'll ever see. This thing must be seen to be believed. When you notice this dish traveling around the room and being delivered to other tables it's the sort of visual that makes you say "what is that?!" First of all, it's huge. One of my co-diners called it the "cheese arm" because you could literally slide your entire arm into the cheese tube. You know how when you're cooking a grilled cheese sandwich and the best part is when some of the cheese gets all fried and crispy on the pan? That's what this entire thing is. They have harnessed the power of what everyone actually wants in a cheese experience and it is being delivered. I've never seen anything like it before but let me tell you, ripping off chunks of crispy cheese and using it like a chip to scoop up perfectly-made guacamole and pico de gallo was an absolutely satisfying experience. Most of the cheese was very crispy but sometimes I'd hit little areas that still contained some chew. Definitely a dish to share, this thing is every cheese-lovers dream. I really liked that part of the menu is dedicated to Mexican street food and I really wanted to sample something from this section. This is where you'll find the Mexican corn that so many of us love. I decided to try the Taco Arabe (Marinated pork cooked on the traditional Trompo (upright grill), shaved onto a flour tortilla. Served with Salsa de Chipotle and lime - $7.00). My first thought upon seeing this dish was "that's it?" But then I tasted it and the simplicity of it all made sense. This place is terrible. Absolutely terrible. Bland white rice with peas and carrots, that's not even how Mexican rice is made. Tasted like it was made from a frozen bag. The beef I ordered came out as ground beef with no taste. The chicken I received was lukewarm. The beans were watery with no beans. I don't know why this is rated so high. We stopped by Lunas for a quick bite and ended up staying for the cocktails and more food. The service was great, and seemed very family oriented. The lime margarita was not to sweet and not too tart, and hand poured (no pre mix here). The chalupas were covered in a delicious sauce. We had the pastor tacos and carne asada - tacos were pretty tasty and met all the standards, but I found them to be a bit on the pricey side for what they were. That said, I would definitely go back for more! The salsas had three heat levels, and although I typically like my salsa hot, the mild salsa verde was delicious. Swung by here Friday after work for a snack on my way home. Nice little eatery. Lively music and friendly servers. Used to be by a similar name Huma I think. Im not sure if they renamed or its an entirely different place then it was. All in all it was great. Decent sized menu that had the right amount if options. I got Brisket tacos, I believe it was Tacos de suadero. Really tasty. Came with hot sauce, lime and chopped Radish. I'm giving this place 5 stars because of how they handled a bonehead mistake I made. I didn't bring my debit/ credit cards as silly as that sounds. And I had forgotten until I went to pay my bill. Very authentic Mexican cuisine with lots of gluten free options. Several vegetarian options and other modifications available as well. The ingredients were simple and fresh. The hot sauces were very flavourful and delicious - I highly recommend trying one of each! You can't go wrong with any of the taco flavours. This restaurant has some of the most authentic and delicious Mexican food I've had in Edmonton. Service: Our visit here was on a Saturday just after noon. It was pretty busy as the servers were doing their best to keep up. Our experience started out Ricky because our server was a bit new and confused but he was so nice and ver my polite and the food came quickly so that made up for the little bump in service. Food: We had the 4 tacos (asada and pastor) and the enchiladas. The asada tacos were the best I've ever had. The seasoning is amazing. Will definitely get those again. But the whole meal was great. And a big lunch with a couple of non-alcohol drinks with tax and tip was under $50 so you really can't go wrong with this place. Drinks: We didn't have any drinks with lunch but lots of folks were having the margaritas and they looked goooood! Ambiance: Very comfortable and authentic looking interior. I've eaten at Luna Cocina three times now and each time the food was delicious. Although I'm a Pescado Taco person because the fish is so flavourful my guests have tried other menu items which have all been very tasty. Today I tried the chocolate brownie which was light like chocolate cake and delicious. Although it was busy because we arrived during the noon rush our server was very polite, friendly and careful. I gave it a review from when it was called huma and it was pretty bad to be honest service was very slow, food was terrible and just a bad expirence. Then we decided to give it a try when they changed their name and is a whole new ball game, the food was exactly how I remember it being when I first went, service was very very fast and very well taken cared off, the owner came to talk to me and had a little chat about how things gone and I'm really happy the way the restaurant has gone and how it looks. Is a beautiful place and honestly a good place for food and first dates, this place might be able to beat la patrona which was the closest to authentic to Mexican food. I think the dessert needs to be a bit better (tres leches) a bit more soft but other wise the enmoladas were to die for. I'm really happy about this place and I cannot wait to go back read more

I really love this place. We come like 2-3 times a year. My girls miss the cow tongue burger. Went tonight for my birthday. Took my girls. It was nice. Wasn't super busy/which it normally is! And it should be. It's a great place. The server tonight was great! She was very attentive. And helped to embarrass me by singing happy birthday lol. The fajitas were great. It's just a good time. SO disappointed. Was quoted 45 minutes for a table (party of 5) went back in after an hour and they were giving our table away to a party of 6 that arrived 15 minutes later than us saying that it was because they were 6 people. Then waited another 15 minutes only to be crowded into a table of 4 with a folding chair at the end. This restaurant clearly only wants to pack in as many people as possible with no regard for customer service. The food was ok at best, there was a piece of plastic in our dessert and our server got our bills wrong. We try to support local but won't be going back here. read more

A perfect place to eat, I shouldn't need to say more but I will. We love this place and I'd have to list pretty much the entire menu to tell you what's good here. This used to be called a different name and closed for a short time while rebranding but I can tell you the food and service are the same A+. We come here once about every month or so from out of town and have never been let down. The tacos are fantastic, the jalapeño cremicita is hands down the best salsa you will ever have (you can buy it in a container to take home along with chips, just make sure you leave some for me). The pastor is a favourite for myself and the girlfriend, she also really enjoys the brisket tacos. The chips are my benchmark for chips when eating out everywhere, this place hand makes them, keeps them warm and salted to perfection for you. I didn't even know chips could be that good until I went here and now I'm a happy chip snob I guess. Nothing worse than going to a Mexican place and getting Tostitos brand chips that aren't even warm, this is usually the start of your meal and it's nice that this place puts the care into serving you those warm perfect hand made chips. According to the girlfriend nobody makes a better mojito, and according to me nobody makes a better michelada. The servers are always excellent, we always seem to get the same one though and she's fantastic (sorry don't know her name) The place is small so make sure you are prepared for a small wait if you haven't made reservations. They've repainted and it's very nice inside. We were there opening weekend and just this last weekend, seriously just eat here for Mexican food don't waste your time anywhere else. read more
