Trattoria del Pescatore - A seafood restaurant I would come back for.

During out entire 1-2 hours here we heard not a word of English. It looked like a local joint with families and singles on dates well represented in the crowd. We were greeted at the door like we were long lost relatives and hustled right away to a table. We were presented with menus but before we could open them we were beckoned into the next room where all manner of fresh caught seafood was lying on ice. I assume they were telling us to pick out what we wanted to eat (some of the choices were still moving around) but as they spoke no English and I even less Italian they could have been telling us anything and I would not have had a clue. We picked out swordfish, calamari, bream and something else that looked adventurous. At each selection the animal was ceremoniously plucked off the ice and placed on a large silver platter. Once we were done we were led back to our table which had been adorned with bread and cutlery in our absence. We still had not opened a menu. We looked around and noticed nobody had menus and they simply told the waiters what they wanted and a few minutes later it magically appeared from the next room on silver platters for the diners to inspect. Once approved the sea creatures were then off to the kitchen and their fate. Needless to say it was delicious and as fresh a fish as I have ever eaten. And I have lived on the beach where seafood was there for the taking. Not only did we have our fill but it was the perfect fuel for our mile walk through the February night back to the hotel. Our entire bill including wine was $46.00 We would definitely come back.

I rarely give 5 stars. But...this was such a great experience. Fresh, well prepared food,…read moreamazingly kind service, deep wine list, pleasant ambiance, good value. As with other reviewers, the owner came and explained the menu to us. We were 5 so we ended up sharing 4 appetizers and 5 entrees. Had we known how much food it would be, we might have dialed it back but we wanted to try all the things. The predominant themes in our meals were red shrimp, mackerel and sardines. For starters we shared: The local red shrimp with salt and pepper. I cannot remember the last time I had shrimp so fresh. The flavors was amazing. If you're an American, be advised that these are head on. The anchovy balls with tomato sauce, like arrancini but with anchovies instead of rice. The tomato sauce was rich and flavorful as were the anchovy balls. The fresh local mackerel over salad with lemon vinaigrette., the lemon vinaigrette made the mackerel come alive. So good and substantial. And the eggplant appetizer which made for a nice pure veggie balance. For entrees we had the anchovy pasta, the red shrimp pasta, the local mixed grill of calamari, mackerel and jumbo red shrimp and the grilled tuna. We all shared each other's plates and I can't say there was a true favorite. The flavors were great in each dish. Finally the wine list....I want to say it was at least 30 bottles of well priced Italian varietals. We had the Pecorino which my son agreed was the smoothest nicest wine he had sampled. The staff was just so welcoming and kind. I am glad we went and grateful to past Yelpers for steering us here.,

Also best Aperol spritz I've ever had, made by the very kind server. Great selection of local wines as well. You really can't go wrong with this place.

Not only was it a wonderful surprise to end up dining right by the water, but even with a line out front, we somehow got incredibly lucky and were seated on the patio completely by chance. I noticed what looked like the owner (or perhaps the general manager) walking around, checking on guests, and helping with service, which added such a warm, authentic touch. Like many restaurants by the water in Italy, the seafood here is incredibly fresh ~ and this place is no exception. We ordered the seafood platter, grilled vegetables, and ravioli with marinara sauce. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious, right down to the bread. We also enjoyed some Prosecco, which paired perfectly with the meal. The view was stunning, and the whole restaurant buzzed with lively, happy energy. I would definitely return ~ not only because it was surprisingly affordable, but also because restaurants like this, with their true authenticity and old-world charm, are my favorite. One small note: the bathroom is on the second floor, so if you're older or have mobility issues, just keep in mind there's a set of stairs to climb. But that's very common across Western Europe. Fun fact: This beautiful little spot in Marina Grande has some real cinematic history. Sofia Loren and Vittorio De Sica, while in Sorrento filming Dino Risi's famous 1954 movie "Pane, amore e..." (Bread, Love, and...), actually sat at the tables of Trattoria Emilia. How amazing is that?
