AN ABSOLUTE GEM. spanish-speaking family-run little hole-in-the-wall Honduran restaurant in a neighborhood that's gentrifying around them and running authentic latin american places like these into the ground. incredible spread of honduran food, took a normal amount of time to come out, and extremely kind/thoughtful service. they just don't speak much english! pull your google translate out or point to what you want on the menu - simple! i came for a date (with an hondureño) and i was early and hinted i wanted to sit outside (if they had seating), and the whole family that was sitting out there got up, cleared their things, and cleaned up for us to sit outside - before i could say stop! and prices are CHEAP for NYC! an absolute new favorite of mine and my first time trying Honduran. the food was to die for and i had leftovers for days. keep this place in business! just expect a normal Latin place with a baby, music and TV on! staple for the locals; bad reviews sound like they've never been in a latin joint, or a place trying to survive, or any ethnic place that doesn't cater immediately to english speakers. read more

The wait for the food was extremely painful. Do not come hungry. We waited for over an hour for 3 baladas and a picadera. Baladas are similar to an open burrito. The dough is ticker but very tasty. Filled with scrambled eggs and you can get the super one with beef. It was very oily. The picadera is like an appetizer mixture platter with beef, pork, sausage, beans, and chips. The small one is $25. Meat was overcooked and over salted. The place looks like is falling apart. The windows are broken and the door is barely standing. I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt the 1st time, but after having been there 3 times and all 3 times the service was terrible their stars dropped. I walked in and asked if they had a menu I could look at and they just stared at me like I had two heads. I did the hand motion of menu and they said it was behind me. I asked if they did to go and without any hesitation, said no and they only did dine in. I was shook because right as I was asking that, one of the ladies was packing a to go container?! The service is sooo horrible. No one greeted us when we walked in and were given dirty looks, even though we're Honduran and Guatemalan. It was unclear who the servers were because they were just hanging out. When it was time to pay, we got two baleadas and one super baleadas, they tried charging us $30. When we brought it up that they over charged us, they got mad at us and slammed the $10 that they owed us on the counter. read more

This place is NOT safe. I went there with my lady to eat, just to try something new. I love all types of Spanish food, from Ecuadorian, Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and never have I gotten sick. I can not speak to the previous posters experiences here. I eat in or take to go from this place at least once a month. The food is fresh, made to order and right in front of you by a small army of tias. The food is delicious and cheap, I just ordered enough food for 3 people and it can to a grand total of $19.00. They are also opening a new location on Melrose St to house the bar to separate it form the dining room. read more

This was my first time having Honduran food. Restaurant was pretty empty, made me a little skeptical. I was recommended to order super baleada. I had no clue what to expect. When I got it looked like a oversized taco. Baleada was amazing tasted nothing like a taco was super flavorful. I truly enjoyed the food. Down side was that the service was bad. You would think since restaurant was empty they would have paid more attention to us but they didn't. read more

Food is good but you get robbed on the prices, on the menu it's says 10$ and on the bill came to 18$. The soup it was 8$ and second time came to 13$... If i'll go next time I call the cops over to investigate... Good luck if u going! read more

My husband is Honduran and we have a few favorite authentic restaurants we visit but we wanted to try somewhere new and a little closer to home. We came here for brunch and had breakfast and it's not authentic. The tortillas were too thick and the cheese wasn't the original cheese imported as we usually experience in other restaurants we go to. The food was mediocre. Maybe dinner might be better but if you can't do an authentic breakfast not sure we would try dinner. It does look like they have great ambiance at night with music so maybe we will give it another try. If your looking for authentic Honduran food this isn't the place. read more

This is an interesting place on a Sunday morning. Almost every patron was a middle-aged man. There was a self-appointed DJ playing Peter Gabriel and KC and the Sunshine Band on youtube on a giant projected screen. Soccer posters are everywhere. Anyway, we intentionally ordered as much food as possible to get a wide sampling of what is available. Strangely, they don't have coffee, so we ended up ordering some tamarindo and passion fruit juice, which was good enough. The first food that we got was also probably the best. Honduran enchiladas. The chicken was moist and juicy. The cabbage gave it a nice touch, with some raw pepper and pickled onion giving it a tasty crunch. Next we got a bean soup with chicharron, with came with rice, avocado, and an entire plantain submerged in the depths. I didn't really know what to do with the chicharron, but it was tasty enough. Additionally, we got a breakfast platter with a fried porkchop, eggs, Honduran bread, mashed fried beans, feta-esque cheese, and avocado. I probably omitted some parts of it actually. Although the pork was a little dry, the food was in general pretty good. We would come here again and try out some new things. I kind of wonder what it would look like at a different time of the day. read more

This place is kind of hilarious, sort of like crashing someone's birthday party in a restaurant. It has that fluorescent lit vinyl table cloth banquet feel, complete with a bunch of dudes in the corner chowing down. The best was the projector screen displaying cheese Latin music videos (and watching whoever was browsing the internet to find the songs). Our waitress didn't speak much English and my Honduras pork dish was so overcooked I couldn't eat it. But the beans and rice were phenomenal. I should have just gotten that. The portions were enormous, and it was pricier than I expected. They turned off the heat almost as soon as we got in there, and the temperature outside was in the teens! Really a shame that the rating is so low. Delicious Honduran food, especially the baledas - handmade flour tortillas stuffed with chorizo, carne asada, queso, avocado, etc. The big plates of marinated, grilled flank steak with fried plantains, crisp slaw, avocado, refried beans, and queso blanco are excellent and enough for two at $12. Nice change of pace from the local Mexican spots. The enormous, gauzy ceiling drapery and, yes, constant YouTube DJing of ranchera music only add to the chill vibe. Unfortunately this was my first time having Honduran food. I should have known to stay away when I tried to call them. I got hung up on the first time, I called again and got no answer. I went anyway and the lady I spoke to when I got there was very kind. The cashier was very rude. The food was God awful. I ordered two baleadas and an enchilada and I had to throw both away. They tasted as if they were intentionally made for me to never want to go back. Never have I ever had food where I had to spit it into a tissue because of how bad it tastes. And it sincerely made me sad, I was initially excited to try the food from here because it's Central American and it's well received. I can't believe how disappointing this was. read more

Food could taste better. Honestly as a Honduran it's so hard to find a good Honduran restaurant in New York. I was hoping Perla del Ulua could do it for me but sadly no. Food is okay could be more tasty and the waitress are so rude have such a bad attitude you can see their faces and it says it all. If you want grilled meat prepare yourself it will take them 2 hours to prepare it . I understand it can be hard to serve fast in a busy restaurant but still buy a bigger grill and get your workers going how can one wait 2 hours for food. read more

Came here since bae was raving about the baleadas. Actually was pleasantly surprised, the decor may be horrible, but the food is actually good! Baleadas sort of reminded me of blini we have back in my home country. The chorizo really added flavor to the baleadas so they were really good, almost like a fat taco. This was the first time at a Honduran place. I thought the food I had was very good and very authentic. The atmosphere is very casual with TV's with sports on them and one huge screen with a guy playing spanish music videos that everyone was really gettting into. I read the reviews about this place and was really expecting nothing much. I came for a private party in the back. I thought it was interesting that the party was catered as if you are dining in as a private patron. I was given some options and I chose the steak dinner. Best decision of MY LIFE. It was a huge portion and delicious! I'm central american and never have I ever had food this good (not even IN Honduras!) I know what you may be thinking... I may be exaggerating right? NOPE. This food was serious business! I'm most definitely coming back to try the pupusas (which I was told they rival Bahia, which for all you pupusa fans know thats a serious allegation) I am not completely convinced something this good is real so stay tuned for my updated review of a visit sans birthday party in the back. went back to this place again to join some friends . nothing has changed. When u explain how u want your meal and they give it to u as they want. Can't complain, they get upset. Well the chicken and fish were overcooked.
