Not a great place for infants. The ratio is to high at 1-7. Babies don't get the attention needed.

What I love about this place is the one on one help each child gets during the lesson. Master Jim really lights up while working with the kids. You can tell he loves teaching Taekwondo. They learn discipline and respect, counting and other words in Korean. The lessons also help with focus and concentration. Class here is the highlight of my little man's week. Every morning he asks if today is a Taekwondo day. I wasn't sure how he would do with three days a week, but he absolutely loves it. I am watching my little unsure shy guy come out of his shell. He memorized the rules of Taekwondo after his second day and is just so eager to keep or practicing and learning more.

Master Jim is patient, kind, yet, stern. He has high expectations for his students in (and out) of class and teaches without demoralizing. (The classes are taught with Korean immersion so students are learning skills with correct terms. I LOVE THIS!) The Dojang is clean and the atmosphere is intimate, friendly and structured. My son has been enrolled for 2 weeks and I have seen a positive and dramatic change in his character. Example: Last week the children had some fun skill building challenges. If he would have "lost a challenge" 2 months ago, he would have had a major meltdown. On Friday, he dropped and did 5 push-ups and then sat straight up to wait his turn for the next challenge.

Physical Abuse: In August 2025, teacher Miss Hilary pulled my child around by the hand squeezing in a painful grip. My child broke free and ran away out of fear and hid in the bathroom. Miss Hilary tried to physically block me from searching and was terminated the following day. Neglect / Food Issues: The facility participates in a food program but consistently served inadequate portions and no fresh produce. On one morning, breakfast was half a small tortilla and corn syrup from canned fruit, with no actual fruit, and staff refused substitutions. Zero compassion. Theft / Property Mismanagement: Miss Hilary allowed a meaningful necklace to go missing for a week and it was only "discovered" after I mentioned filing a police report. Other children were allowed costume jewelry, showing selective enforcement. Financial Mismanagement: Director Hunter required families to pay out of pocket until ECECD reimbursement came through, which took six months for over $1,000. Staff repeatedly shifted blame. Administrative Issues / Environment: The facility often smells of soiled diapers upon entering, and staff leave children to scream and cry uncomforted when parents drop them off. Director Hunter has a history of avoiding responsibility, contributing to these ongoing problems. These experiences caused significant stress and show that this facility does not provide a consistently safe or reliable environment.

My wife and I both work full time so we had to enroll our son young. Shortly after we started the daily drop-off we questioned how much me he was actually getting out of his carrier. We would pick him up and he would be in his carrier, lethargic and unresponsive to our arrival, unlike how he was at home. When asked what he had done that day, nobody could really tell us and the structure we had been told during walk-thurs was not what was actually going on. Another time we picked him up he was wet and unchanged. We asked when he was last changed and nobody knew so we have no idea how long he's been like that. A few weeks later he had a round of stomach issues and pain only to find out they had been feeding him solid food that we hadn't provided, long before he was supposed to be eating solid food. When we brought questions or concerns to the director we always felt like we got canned responses. Child/caregiver ratios were WAY higher than what we were told. I arrived once to find an overwhelmed caregiver and asked her why she had 12 infants to herself and she was entirely apologetic but said it was just the situation she was put in. Again, apathetic response to my concerns by administration. The final straw was, each child was supposed to have their own crib. I stopped in to pick him up early and there was some other kid in my child's crib and my kid was back in his car seat. We immediately disenrolled our child and moved him someplace else. I would not recommend this place under ANY circumstances. I contacted the state regarding the care and ratios but do not know if they followed up on any of it.

I needed interim…read morecare for my 19 month old toddler because we lost our other sitter to a day job, and we were still on a waiting list for a daycare/preschool closer to home. The Y had an opening, and we went. Well, I am really glad that we did. The carers are awesome, they all made a fuss over my son everyday, which was great. They have a little report card they give you at the end of the day so you have some idea how your kidlet ate, napped and generally did during the day. The staff are fun, friendly and have a really good sense of humor, which I really appreciate. They made sure all the kids were fed often, and were prompt to change diapers. My son never had any issues with rashes or other diaper stuff. Pros: The staff are great, very engaged with the kids, and my son was always relaxed and happy at the end of the day. They got to play a lot of games, there's a big space and not too many kids (15 total) for the number of caregivers (3 at any time). They have the same people there, so the kids have consistency in caregivers too, which I really like. They did different activities, painting, drawing, singing, and just playing. Cons: the only con was that the outdoor area isn't ideal. It's in an office building so the outdoor space is concrete. There are foam pads on the ground, so the kids won't get scrapes when they fall, and there's lots of toys, but it's still concrete. I think given the location, and the awesome staff, that isn't a terrble thing for me. Overall, I do recommend YMCS downtown daycare. They are really convenient, really nice and reasonably priced, too!

At the previous school my child was hit by a teacher and we created an investigation. So I wanted my child to be in an educational system in which I could have access to video monitoring services and one that held teachers accountable. So I as any parents of a little one I was skeptical of every place that I went to observe and I ended liking kiddie academy because of their philosophy, rules, and how they hold teachers accountable. My child has a few couples of days getting used to his new school and he did bite a child one day and got suspended. However in no time he learned to get a long with the rest of the children and be friends with children. I saw my child grow as the little butterfly he is and be confident in his social skills and educational journey. He was able to graduate from pre-K with his peers and do the summer program as well. He loved it so much that me that he is in kinder he tells me he misses Kiddie academy friends and teachers. The team is amazing and wonderful and I will forever be grateful they took care of my little one as one of theirs.

Despite the multiple discussions with management and staff, my 2 year old son continued to be bitten. The management had an attitude of "kids will be kids" and not an attitude of how to make sure he and the other children were not bitten. One or two bites may be a toddler behavior but not 32. The lack of care, or plan put in place was the reason we had to disenroll. It was not fair to my son to go to school everyday in that type of environment. The only reason I didn't give it one star was because there were a couple teachers I liked at the school.

My oldest daughter, Dasia went on to graduate with honors from Brooklyn Technical High School and Amherst College. She got her Masters from Wake Forest and will be pursuing her PHD. My daughter Alasia went to Midwood HS and graduated at 20 with her Bachelors in Bioengineering from Michigan State University. She just completed her Masters at NYU. They went when they were very young and even though they don't remember things like going to their first protest (w/ the students of UNM protesting the Invasion of Iraq in '03) or to Disneyland, they both remember Our Montessori and the wonderful teachers, especially Ms. Belinda and Mr. Chris. They remember the school down to details like the fishtank, the classrooms decorated with planets and red bicycles. When I told Alasia I spoke with Ms. Roxanne, she asked "Wow, does she remember us?" I told her yes and her face lit up. I would recommend this school to every parent. The staff is attentive, genuinely love teaching and are dedicated to the mission of Montessori. In NYC, I would have never been able to afford to send my daughters to a school like this. Ms. Roxanne's explanation of why she chose to structure Our Montessori as it is in order to make it accessible to all children regardless of socioeconomic background was heartwarming and inspirational. I went on to work in special education in NYC and I hope to design a Montessori program exactly like Our Montessori in honor of the great work they've done. I wholeheartedly recommend this school and look forward to reading all of the alumni stories of achievement to come!
