I feel in love with this place! The food, the staff, all of it... AMAZING. I had two pupusa's and a tamale, the flavor was just perfect. Everyone there was in a good mood, laughing , it was a warm feeling being there. I have nothing to say more than this is a must try! Parking can be tricky!

Yelpers got this one right! Was looking for pupusas, and found this place on Yelp. Finally, good Pupusas instead of the crapppy ones that I've tried via food trucks, Mission side streets, or that one in Pacifica. Absolutely fresh outside seared perfectly with great flavored pork and cheese. Bought 4 of them! The sour vegetables and sauce were awesome, and the Horchata wasn't too sweet and had a good balance of rice milk and cinnamon. They cook them near the front! Would definitely come here again and buy more Pupusas in a variety of other flavors.

This place seemed like a little hole in the wall restaurant but it was packed on a Tuesday night, so I had high hopes. They were not disappointed! Food was quite cheap (at least in relation to the rest of downtown San Mateo) and quite tasty. The pupusas in particular were decadent, cheesy, and delicious, and I'll be coming back to try more of their tacos and burritos as well. Food took an extremely long time to get after ordering, but honestly, worth it for the quality.

Solid pupusas. Friendly atmosphere. Super delish pouches of happiness. You have to eat it hot right away. You can use knife/fork but it's so good just tearing it up with your hands. The pork and cheese one (chicharrón y queso) was velvety. I guess you could almost think of it as a quesadilla but this is a much more manageable size. I had some tomato soup and crunchy pickled cabbage. Then the Loroco leaf was new to me. It reminds me a little bit of the skin part of a chile relleno, but it's fine enough that it's just the taste. The rest was cheesy softness in the corn pouch. Times visited: 1

Hubby said they're known for their seafood, so I figured I'd give it another shot. We went on Sunday night around 6:30 pm. The restaurant was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. We were seated immediately, and all the servers were nice and friendly. Hubby ordered a bunch of dishes, and here are DS's and my ratings versus hubby's: * Molcajete - 3.5/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). It looks great, but the meats were a bit subpar. * Mariscada (seafood platter) - 1/5 (us) and 3/5 (hubby). A bunch of fried frozen seafood. Hard pass. * Ceviche de Pulpo - 4/5 (us) and 5/5 (hubby). Pretty good and something I'd order again. * Costillas en Chile (pork ribs) - 1/5 (us) and 2/5 (hubby). Underwhelming all around. Overall, I'd give this meal a 2/5, plus one extra star for the awesome, friendly service. Their chips and salsa are still very good. It's free which is pretty much unheard of in the Bay Area. They're also happy to refill if you ask, and that earns them another bonus star. Hubby really enjoyed this dinner and is already planning to come back with his friends. As for me, this is probably it.

Must-try birria spot - I keep coming back for a reason…read more This place is on my list of must-tries for Mexican food, and I've been here countless times at this point. The beef birria tacos are SO good like the flavor, the birria consomme, the sauce, the meat. Everything just hits right. This is a legit hole-in-the-wall kitchen, and that's exactly what makes it special. No frills, just really good food that keeps you coming back. Every time I'm craving birria (which is often), this is where I go. The quality stays consistent every single visit, which is huge. You know exactly what you're getting and it never disappoints. For the price and taste, the value is excellent. You're getting authentic, flavorful birria without paying sit-down restaurant prices. If you're in the area and craving some birria tacos, do yourself a favor and try this place. It's the kind of spot that turns into a regular rotation real quick. Trust me, I'm proof of that.

Summary: Flavorful, but HEAVY…read more Details: They just opened up a new branch in SF, but we wanted an excuse to hit up San Mateo, and Latin American is always a good enough excuse. While photos of their SF location suggest some seeing, this OG location is pretty much pickup/delivery only: a fairly literal hole in the wall, located along a random quiet street. Most folks would probably opt to take home or eat at one of the "nearby" parks, but we've gotten in the habit of just eating in the car, which... not so great for something as messy as birria lol. I'll say that for most folks, this would probably easily be more a 4 star spot, while for us, it's more a 2 star since we're unlikely to come back. That's not to say the food was bad: on the contrary, the flavors were quite good, and the consomme was less salty than some of the others we've tried. But their food is HEAVY. Not just the birria itself, but also the burrito we got, and heavier than other places we've been for some reason, with the birria sitting in a pool of oil soon after we picked it up. This probably isn't a deterrent for most people though, so take this as you will. Accessibility: Not too relevant since this is really just a pickup spot, with the pickup window being at the usual height you'd find elsewhere.

As soon as we walk in the door we were greeted by Daniel himself who welcomed us warmly and offered meal selections and specials that were available which was very helpful. We got the nachos to share , my hubby got the burrito and I got the Rosie's special. Firstly the portions are huge and the food was all absolutely delicious and visually stunning. Everything was made from scratch and cooked fresh to order and seasoned perfectly. My husband and I are very well traveled and trying Mexican food most every where we travel, let me just say, while SFO had lots to offer for vacay, this hidden gem is at the very top of my list as the reason I want to go back to Burlingame SFO. Do not hesitate, if you live around travel to the area make Gabriel and Daniel Mexican grill a weekly staple and support these 2 brothers who have been in business for the past 23 years, you will never regret it. The food is world class cuisine, served in a quaint, relaxed atmosphere where you will be treated like family, I certainly felt like I had dinner at my uncle's home, and the prices are unbeatable for the huge portions you are served. To be honest my husband and I inhaled the nachos, they are easily the best we ever had in all our worldwide travels, but our burrito and Rosie's special were so huge we both had leftovers. These 2 brothers have perfected their family restaurant and cook with heart, passion and skill, which is unmistakable in their cuisine and warmth of their hospitality. Lastly I would like to say, I do not often write reviews unless I'm absolutely blown away, and this restaurant is easily at the top of my list of restaurant recommendations of all our worldwide cuisine adventures. To Gabriel and Daniel, thank you pouring your love and passion into your cuisine and for allowing us to experience authentic delicious food that we will talk about for a lifetime. All our love... It was very good, but the bottom of the shell gets really soggy so you can really just eat the top of the shell where it's still crispy.
