The food the first time I had it was pretty good! We got the huevos dishes that are for breakfast. They were generous with salad, beans, rice and tortillas. This time I got the chicken fajitas dish and tbh this would probably push the rating to 3.5. The chicken was okay but mushy. The green peppers and tomatoes were overcooked. You kind of want this dish to be griddled and charred. This was sort of disappointing. The service was really nice! Best super burrito I've had for a longggg time. We got Al pastor and the flavor is spot on! I got the tacos for taco Tuesday and they allow mix and match of almost all meats except cabeza I think. I tried lengua, asada and al pastor. All were really good but I think I'd rate it asada, lengua, then pastor from least to best. There's lots of seating in the restaurant since it expands to next door. The food comes out at a standard wait time. The first time we tried this hole-in-the-wall in the late '90s, I wasn't impressed. Fast forward 10 years, and I changed my opinion. I really like that I am usually the only non-Spanish speaking customer. It is a community hang-out for many who live in the neighborhood. We've even introduced friends to this place in the last 10 years. DS really likes the al pastor meat and has it with nachos. The rest of us have burritos with carne asada, pollo asada or chile verde meat. The super burrito is based on the regular burrito but adds cheese, sour cream and guacamole. There is a larger storefront on b street, but this location feels like we are getting authentic Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable, too. It is also cash only. read more

This is the second location of the original Los Primos located on North B Street. I've been to both locations and was never impressed by the food, but decided to give them another try recently. After multiple tries I can confidently say that the food is mediocre at best/flat out bad. Ordered their al pastor super burrito and chile relleno. The al pastor had little flavor. Mid. The chile relleno was $15 for just one stuffed poblano pepper, other places give two at least. The pepper was not fully cooked and the cheese inside not melted. I was literally biting into a half raw poblano pepper. I could not cut the pepper with the provided plastic knife so I had to switch to a metal knife and it was STILL hard to cut into. Beans and rice similarly had little seasoning and lacked flavor. The salsa was great though. Service was great as well and the person taking my order was very nice. My suggestion: skip this place and it's other location and go to the restaurants further down on North B Street like Pencas or Piñata if you're looking for good Mexican/Central American food. Hidden off in a nearly all Mexican neighborhood, my co-worker and I decided to drop in because it looks like the type of hole in the wall places we love. Sure enough, we stuck out again, being that everyone was Mexican except for us. The difference this time was the waitress spoke English unlike the last few places we'd been. We both went for the tacos and noticed at $1.75 each, it was on the pricey side. We tried carnitas, lengua, asada, pollo, chili verde, and tripa. I'd say everything was pretty good but again the asada was just ok compared to the many different places we'd been. The winners were the carnitas, buche and tripa. I like that the place is off the beaten path but I'm not sure the prices justify the trip (at least for the tacos). They did also have cabeza and buche is also somewhat unusual so if you're interested in the weird meats, this is definitely a good place. The ambiance is very soccer oriented in decor and there's a various Mexican programming on the overhead tv's. The watiress was really nice and the cooks are super super fast. read more

Clearly ordered a chicken burrito. The lady who took my order told me 1 chips and 1 salsa came with the meal. I grabbed a bowl of chips and before I could grab a bowl of salsa she poured a bowl of mild salsa and a small bowl of guac. I apologized and asked her for hot salsa. She poured a bowl of hot sauce. I put the bowls aside as I clearly didn't ask for any and grabbed a small bowl of hot salsa. She saw and proceeded to loudly talk shit to the chef in front of everyone about my 4 bowls of salsa. When my chicken burrito came out it was instead beef, and when I politely told the waiter I had ordered chicken but I'll take it, she screamed from the other side of the restaurant "you told me beef!" One of my favorite places to go for Mexican food. One of my co-workers first told me about this spot, out of the way, away from the busy downtown parts of San Mateo. Parking here can be a little tricky during the lunch times, so even if you park a bit further away and walk from the residential area across the street from the preschool you should be all good. The iron bars on the windows don't really add to any beauty, but then again in a hole in the wall I think it adds to it's charm. I think they do a great job on the al pastor and camerones tacos, although I also think the Chile Verde and lengua burritos are pretty good and filling too. Oh little tip: I also usually ask them to grill some onions and jalapenos, and throw it on the tacos or in my burrito, you have to ask for that, they don't just give it out. That stuff is freakin money in anything they serve there!!! I also like the salsa and radishes that they have on the table, yeah they are usually still out there when you got there, but they are good, and people eat it fast and often there is little reason to be concerned. Service wise, the people that work here are very friendly, and the food rocks! Little else matters! Oh sometimes they do have stomach, liver and tripes here too, they are freakin awesome! Don't let organ meat scare you, it tastes really good! This is a local taqueria that isn't well known, but their food keeps you coming back for more. I recently came here with my coworkers and have been coming back the past few weeks. Honest to say, the first time I ate here, I wasn't too impressed. I ordered the pollo asada jumbo burrito (difference between supreme and jumbo is lettuce) I was expecting something more "healthier" like chipotle and I didn't get it (not a lot of lettuce). I thought the meat was good and the overall taste was ok. But my mind got changed the 2nd time, when I came back and opted just for the supreme chicken burrito and fell in love. That day, everything just melted in my mouth: from the melting cheese to the moist chicken to the onions and sour cream. I became a fan that very day and have came back to try other things. Their al pastor tacos are good. The al pastor meat is cooked well with a slight bit of crispiness. The quesadilla is decent size (if you get the super, split it in half). Their salsa bar has a good green sauce (more on the avocado side) and my coworkers love getting the grilled onions to accompany the chips they serve with the food. It's a little small restaurant that you may miss because it's in a neighborhood next to a market. It's a little run down, but since we were there we took food to go anyways. I had their special taco and let me tell you it was not special. And we had the quesadilla and we were not impressed by that either. I had the nachos and that was the only thing I could bear to eat. We also had the burrito and a burrito truck probably would have a better choice. I hope they improve the place since it's primos number two. Stopped in to Los Primos for lunch on a rainy afternoon. The place is a bit of a hole in the wall and parking will require some circling around on the streets, but you can't beat the food here! Food 4/5: The salsa bar had a few salsa and guacamole options (some chips were stale from being under the heat lamp). I ordered the torta with carne asada and melted into absolute bliss. The torta was piping hot with crispy bread and super savory meat, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and onions. I've seen many tortas in my life, but seriously, this was the most amazing of them all. I inhaled it. Atmosphere 3/5: Definitely a hole in the wall place. Not the fanciest of places, but when the food's good, it doesn't matter. Service 3/5: A little bit of confusion about ordering to takeout vs. dine in and discovering the salsa bar. Food came out quickly, but the cash only did put a damper on my dining experience. A surprising treat. I stopped by to to my laundry next door and my stomach grumbled as I sniffed some aromas. Naturally, I followed my nose through the open doors and asked for a vegetarian burrito without onions. The cashier/waitress charged me $5 and some change. While I waited, I was served some chips and 2 types of salsa. All of which were tasty. When I got the burrito, it was hot, and wrapped in aluminum foil. I opened it up and upon my first bite, I could taste a well prepared tortilla. Not under cooked or ever cooked as i could bit into it effortlessly and it dissolved with a buttery finish. The internal ingredients were lettuce, sour cream, rice, pinto beans, and some tomato like sauce. I scarfed it down with the salsas. Then the real test... a few hours later, it had digested well without giving me any issues. Satisfaction on both the initial consumption and the digestion afterward. That to me is good food! I left a mess of salsa dripped from the burrito and the waitress smiled and said, no worries. I left without guilt. Not the highest quality food ever, but hey, for the price, I think it is a good value. read more

At $5.50 for a regular burrito or $6.00 for a super burrito, the price was right and the carne asada burito was delicious. Los Primos #2 does a good job rolling their burrito so that you have a great mixture of ingredients in each bit, and what makes this burrito particularly special is the marinade on the carne asada. read more
