Good luck figuring out when this place is open. I cannot tell you how many times I have called or was waiting outside when they were supposed to be open. Whatever is listed online is not accurate it seems. No voicemail with hours, nothing on the door. Facebook will show they are currently open when they are not. They are not always open when Google or Yelp says they are, so who knows? Not reliable at all. Overall, the food is average. The shish tawook sandwich, baklava, ghallaba, and hummus are good though. Here is some info from previous experiences... I got an order with half the items missing once and have received the wrong order other times as well. I do not like the lentil soup here. I got the lemon tawook and it was way too salty, and I like my salt. Salad is just ok, not worth what they charge. I got a side of beef skewer one day and it was fatty and low quality. Potassium broth is mostly carrot juice here and they put it in 2 cups instead of plastic bottles like other places do. I am used to the Mediterranean food in Dearborn and this is not great. Cheesesticks were gross. It was an odd texture like sawdust/mealy. It did not come with any sauce. Just weird. Unfortunately, this is the only Mediterranean place in the area. read more

I got the shawarma mix plate. It cost about $23 before tax and tip. Should be $16. It's good and has crispy edges on the chicken and meat. Must eat it with the garlic toum sauce/ paste. Probably best meal so far in Benton harbor. Still have silver beach pizza to go to. Had a dark And old atmosphere inside. Went around 2 and it was empty. It's important during COVID that we continue to support them! Our latest adventure was a showcase: seafood, meat, vegetarian- all amazing!! One of the show stoppers is the baba ghanouge. You can instantly taste the grill char. If you assume it tastes like anything you've had from a grocery store, you'll be happily surprised. Though I wish they had a website that made the menu more clear, a certain delivery app has nicely detailed descriptions of dishes. This place has unfortunately gotten beyond terrible. When we moved here five years ago, it was one of the best in the area. After tonight's order, I'm done. Remember the turkey from Christmas Vacation? That would be a moist, succulent piece of meat compared to anything we received. Everything from the shawarma to the kabobs were as dry as sawdust and likely cooked many hours before we placed our order. They forgot one of our entrees and couldn't care less to check whether they made the order when I called. Good times spending $160 for a family dinner that will mostly end up in the trash. read more

Would love to give more stars but despite having delicious food they are overpriced and closed most of the time I try to go during their listed hours. Their falafel pita has great flavors but only contains one falafel that they break up. I've had better deals for equal quality at restaurants in the Kalamazoo and Chicago areas. I would suggest to call first to see if they are open but don't rely on the automated message. If a person doesn't pick up, assume no one is there. read more

When calling this establishment it was a bit hard to get the man to understand what I was saying as I ordered. He repeated our order back and it was right. We asked what was the dressing on our salad, and he repeated the order again. We asked for the total and how long it would take and he yet again...repeated our order again. That being said, I was at least confident we'd get exactly what we asked for. LOL wrong. He forgot an entire dish. When arriving the bag was so tight and the place so small and shoulder to shoulder we left with the order and didn't realize till we got home. My husband called and told him we were missing food, guess what he did? Repeated the order. At this point my husband is pissed cuz the man is just telling him to order it and it'd be 30 minutes. He was not understanding that we were missing food, not ordering more after just leaving. I call again and made it clear. He said to come down and basically hung up. When getting there he helped everyone else walking in as he watched us wait after letting him know we called about the missing food. 15 min later he tells us he never added it. As we're talking the man making the food in the back has no gloves on and was eating the scraps off the food he was boxing up. LICKING HIS FINGERS. First time trying this place, and the last. We tossed the food we had ordered in the trash, and left without the food that was missing. Oh and the price online is not correct. Ordered chicken meal for 13 dollars it was actually 21 and he never gave us totals through the entire experience till we paid when picking up. Decided to try this place again since we had a Superbook deal, and it was DELICIOUS the second time around! The hummus was so flavorful, and the meats very tender. If you go, I highly recommend the La Pita Mixed Grill -- it has a bit of everything and is a great introduction to Mediterranean food if you've never had it before. The highlight of the night was their falafel. MMMMMM. YUMMMMMM. I am extremely angry at this restaurant. I came here with my mother and uncle, wanted small tastings of everything and decided on the falafel pita and the hummus Tabouli pita. I asked if the hummus tabouli pita could be put on a plate rather than inside the pita. That way I would have small tastings of everything. They said "no problem." Apparently the cook in the back said that "a sandwich is a sandwich"... So they then decided to serve me a full order of hummus, a full order of tabouli, and a full order of pitas- WITHOUT TELLING ME. When it was time for me to pay, my meal went from $12 to $25... Guy at the cashier explained to me that if it was on a plate it is not a sandwich. But I then said to him, why didn't anyone come and tell me? If they had told me I would've not ordered that food. So therefore I paid a ton of money for subpar food. I will not be back. Sidenote- my mom and my uncle's meals were an extra five dollars because they apparently they had not updated their menu. Pretty great Lebanese food! The atmosphere inside is simple but nice. Plenty of seating, great for any size group from 2 to 12. So it's ample for friends or family. Mix of chair seating and 4-person booths. The food is really tasty! Be sure to ask them to go easy on the salt. I've been here maybe 5 times now and this time we asked for "less salt please" and it tasted like they listened! We ordered the: shish kabob, chicken tawook, and lemon tawook and it was all really good. The lentil soup is amazing so be sure to order it. The only place in Southwest Michigan I would go for Mediterranean/Lebanese food. My personal recommendation is beef shawarma, super tender and flavorful. The hummus is always fresh and all but impossible to stop eating and the falafel is out of this world. Awesome and consistently delicious! My husband and I have recently moved back to the area from three years in Israel, and I have to say La Pita is just as good and in some cases better than the authentic food we have eaten in the Middle East. They are a Lebanese family who makes their food from family recipes. St. Joseph has no idea what a gem they have right in town! Having explored many restaurants in Jerusalem, eating world-renowned hummus from Abu Gosh and the well-known Ben Sira, buying dolmas (grape leaves) from the the Jerusalem market on the regular and eating falafel from street vendors... I have to say, these staples are some of the best here at La Pita. I love their falafel and hummus most of all (their hummus is probably my favorite of all). And the kibbeh (kubbeh, as we called in in j-lem), is hands down better than any I've had. I can't wait to try more of their menu and compare. They have delicious shawarma and meats. Though, as a vegan, I thoroughly enjoy their vegetable dishes. I used to come here before I left, but I had no idea how authentic it was. I couldn't fully appreciate it, though I still loved it. But having come back, I am so grateful that there is something here to remind me of my adventures abroad. read more

I've been dying to try La Pita ever since I heard about it! I went for lunch during the week and upon walking in, there were only a couple people there. I was greeted and told to grab a seat. I was walked through the menu by the server and the Chicken Shawarma - Lunch Special was recommended. You get SO MUCH delicious food with the combo! I mean read this description and tell me you don't want to go....right....now - "Chicken roasted on a rotating skewer, served with rice, hummus, house salad and garlic sauce". The service was great. The only negative (for a first time) is I feel there isn't clear direction if you sit down or order at the counter etc. Just know to take a seat and someone will bring you a menu - it's easiest to cash out at the counter/register. I will definitely be back! I hope it is busier other times during the day, because I want this place to stay open! So then dinner time came around and we thought why not come back again! So for dinner we came back and had the family platter to try a bit of everything. My husband and I love anything middle eastern to eat, so we decided to check out this place for dinner on Labor Day. Based on the Yelp reviews, it sounded promising. We arrived around 6 pm and there were only 6 other diners there, so we didn't expect a wait. It was seat yourself, and the very pleasant waiter greeted us as we chose our table and was taking our drink orders within 3 minutes. The first thing I noticed was that there weren't any food smells wafting throughout the place. Kinda disappointing since that gets you more excited for the meal. They must have just had very strong exhaust fans in the kitchen, we assumed. Needless to say, it did smell very clean! After perusing their large menu we decided on fried Kebi for an app and ordered a mixed Schwarma platter and the Shrimp in lemon thyme sauce for entrees. Our soup and salad came out first. The lentil soup was delicious. Nicely spiced and flavorful. The salad looked delicious, very fresh with herbs and persian cukes on lettuces, but it was pre-dressed in their house dressing and was SALTY beyond belief. I ate it anyway, and washed the salt down with tea. On to the fried Kebi app, which is spiced ground beef and nuts inside a deep fried potato/dough ball. Very good, but again, on the salty side. Darn! Finally the entrees arrived. Looked delish... but, you guessed it SALTY SALTY SALTY! So disappointed. The rice side with almonds saved the dish from being a complete let-down, but the lemon and salt were so terribly strong I could only eat about 1/3 of it. My husband liked the meat platter, especially the beef (chicken was meh, and dry), but said it too was over salted. The saving grace at the end of the meal was the baklava. However, it came out in the rolled cigar-like format, which makes me think that they didn't make it in house. It was deliciously buttery and nutty though. At least we enjoyed that! The service was GREAT, place was CLEAN, timing was PERFECT but food was SALTY! Probably won't be back unless someone else is paying! read more

Decided not to cook tonight after a long day of work. Called them up around 6 and ordered two chicken dinners and two small salads. One dinner came with rice for my fiancé, and one with fries for myself. The guy on the phone repeated my order back to me THREE TIMES and said it would be about 20 minutes. Walked in and went to checkout, and the total was $49.80. I thought that was a little steep for being the smaller dinners and salads, but everything is expensive everywhere, so I just paid and left. Got home and they forgot one of the dinners. I called and asked if I could go back and pick up the missing dinner. I thought, "I should've checked before I left, no biggie." Get back and walk in to no sorry, no it'll be ready soon. I'm just told to wait to the side while 3 other families order and receive their food. While I'm waiting, I look back and see the ONLY cook eating food and licking his finger with no gloves and continuing to cook. After this, I'm pissed. Basically, I am paying all this money and coming back and now disgusted with the fact of what I just witnessed. Wait 15 minutes just to get called to the counter to say it was my mistake, and I only ordered one dinner, not two. I went home threw everything out. If you want to pay 50 dollars for one dinners' worth and get sick, this is the place for you. Will never be back. read more

We ate here as a family at the request of my Grandmother who's only want was the family come together for a meal that she thought everyone would like. The family had mixed reviews of this place. Now, I want to be fair and honest in my review. My food was fine. I had the mixed chicken/beef shawarma for the main course with a greek salad and the lentil soup. All were very tasty. The rest of the family had mixed reviews concerning some of the items they had purchased. My aunt in fact went to talk to the chef about her distaste for one dish in particular, but the manager offered 50% off the item instead of taking it off the bill completely, which I thought was strange. The service could use some polishing up, as our server disappeared several times during our meal and there were no more than 3 parties in the restaurant at any given time. Also strange. My review may be a bit unfair because we are not the easiest family to serve at a restaurant. First off, the restaurant may not look like too much from the outside, but the inside is very clean and well decorated. The waiter was patient but he was the only one working and there was less than an hour to close. We have an egg allergy and a celiac in the family so we had a lot of questions about menu items. He didn't know the answers to many of them and did not offer to check with kitchen staff. He knew to warn me (celiac) about the rice (cooked with pasta) and some other menu items, but when asked about the soup could not tell me if it was gluten free or not. He also insisted the falafel was gluten free despite being cooked in a shared fryer with gluten containing kibbeh. For an intolerance that might not be a problem, but for celiac disease that is NOT gluten free and could make someone very sick. I ended up getting two shish kabobs with no sides because he couldn't guarantee me any of them were safe. The shish kabobs were delicious. My son (egg allergy) ordered the shrimp and it came out covered in a thick creamy sauce he wasn't expecting. When asked if the sauce was egg free the waiter did not know the answer and did not offer to find out for us. My husband ended up eating the shrimp and giving our son his shish kabob and rice meal to prevent an allergic reaction. Overall, I'm sure this restaurant is great if you can eat everything without concern for your health. But if you need a waitstaff knowledgable of ingredients or willing to go the extra mile to find out for you, you likely won't find it here. One additional point, food was served in styrofoam with plastic utensils. Not what we were expecting based on the price point and atmosphere. read more

I have eaten here 5 times so far and have been satisfied each time. They have an ample selection on the menu with plenty of variety including the juices and other interesting alcohol free drinks. I would definitely recommend Shish Tawook which is garlic marinated chicken cubes grilled in the kabob style. Fantastic each time and a real winner with our whole family. The mixed grill and or mixed platters are a great way to sample and pick your favorites if you are not familiar with this cuisine. All that we have tried has been very good with large portion sizes accompanied by good service. There were 5 of us the last time and we ordered a combo appetizer of Hummus, babaganeush, tabouli and stuffed grape leaves. My children devoured this in short order and left the rest of wondering where it all went. It was excellent. The lentil soup is very good and definitely worth trying.
