I have to say, I love La Pita. Everything that I've had from this restaurant has been incredibly satisfying. The food is consistently impressive and incredibly flavorful. Whether getting take out or dining in, the service has always been top notch. When dining in, the salads and soups are out to you almost as soon as you order. I am a huge fan of their lentil soup. My husband and I order the meal for two most of the time and it comes with enough food for more like four people. The value for the food you get is really good, in my opinion. My husband took me here before we were married for lunch when it had first opened. He's been to and love the Middle East, so to have authentic Lebanese food available in southwest Michigan was a miracle. We love coming here for lunch and dinner (though they're lunch menu is our fave). They're smoothies are perfect, they're shawarma is perfect, it's all honestly perfect. Every time I have come to La Pita I have loved every bite and every drink! They have wonderful vegetarian menu selections. The fresh juice is sooooo amazing! I always get all the different baklava they offer and pig out after my meal (extra delicious if you have them warmed). The place is always clean but kinda drab. I love La Pita. It's the best food in the area. It's real food. You taste what's in it and that's so refreshing. Clean well crafted dishes that are honest & you actually feel as if you have gotten better by enjoying a lunch or dinner. That being said if you are not familiar with byzantine style food then be patient. It's not the food it's the way we have become accustomed to eat and enjoy food as Americans. I don't mean to knock American diners, our food or our traditions butte are used to eating food that's almost engineered to taste good. The only way I can explain it is look at ketchup. It's one of our simplest additions to a meal. It has at least 6 ingredients and probably most of those have been processed in a factory before they made it to the ketchup plant. So what I'm saying is that when you take that tongue's process to taste and put something on it that only has 5 ingredients and none of those have ever had any more processing than a squeeze or a chop the tongues a little freaked out. Don't expect gyros & baklava like what we know of Greek food. There is no feta cheese or Tzatziki sauce in their kitchen. But you can get a fresh squeezed vitality juice that's amazing. And skip those meat pockets until you are ready. So be patient. Chew slower and more often and if you don't know then ask. Also let the food sit on your tongue a little longer. That's really the best part of the experience. The owners & workers are all direct Lebanese descendants and their dining culture is so different. There is an adjustment on both sides of the table. It's hard to comprehend at times that you both want the same thing and that's to have a great meal & enjoy it but the gestures & expressions get mixed up. It sort of reminds me of being exposed to my childhood best friend's family who were strait from Sicily. I loved it. Being in the back of their pizza shop with all the screaming, noise and excitement but I always thought Vinchenzo was in trouble. Nope. That's just a simple misunderstanding. Though over the years my friends thought the same thing when sitting around my family's table. They have this cool stone oven that is wood fired and they had it flown from the Mediterranean and had some special artisan construct it and the local health department won't let them use it because the inspectors don't know what it is. I want to know. Super cool reading all the Lebanese landmark information on the walls. Also hands down the best music videos you'll see... possibly ever? Beef shawarma sandwich is brisket. Delicious. Sam, the manager, is a fantastic guy! His staff are equally fantastic, and the food is best of all. I eat med. food whenever possible...this is the BeSt I've had anywhere. The hummus is a MuST! As is the La Pita salad, their dressing will make you come back weekly, which we do. The Shish Tawook with rice is my very favorite. The marinade on the chicken is divine. Run, don't walk here! Hidden gem! Delicious, authentic Lebanese food. The flavors of the spices and herbs are incredible! Clean with friendly service and help recommendations. Very generous portions, we couldn't finish it all! We do wish they had fountain drinks instead of cans but appreciate all the juices and smoothies they offered (we didn't try them though). Hummus and pita were great. Even a small bowl is a generous helping. Falafel is FANTASTIC. Highly recommend. The flavor is incredible. The Chicken Shawarma dinner was a huge platter and could easily feed multiple people. The rice was good, although could've been warmer. The chicken's flavor was out of this world! So bright and fresh. Some of the pieces were crispy and dry, and some tender, and some looked pink which concerned me (I didn't eat those pieces as I wasn't sure about that). The waiter seated us promptly and was hilarious as he made jokes with my party and I assuring us a pleasant dine-in. I ordered their Mixed Shawarma and it was DELICIOUS ! I kid you not, it consist of beef, chicken, and basmati rice. So you get the best of both worlds (meat). Our waiter also threw in a complimentary bowl of their homemade hummus! I'm staying in town on a work trip and needed to find a dinner spot. I searched yelp thinking "welp nothing good to eat in this town" (no offense to this cute little city. Great beach btw.) This place seemed like my best option. I'm so glad I went! I ordered the chicken kabob and chose rice and salad. The salad dressing has to be the best Mediterranean/ Greek type dressing I've ever had (excuse me while I lick the plate.) The flavor and tender juicy goodness of the chicken was perfect! They are very generous with the rice and I took that as a challenge to eat it all of course. This dish was served with a tangy, lemony garlic sauce and a stack of pita bread triangles. SO good. Becca was our server and she was amazing. We got the Stuffed Lamb and Lemon Tawook. Salad with one and a chicken and rice soup with the other. Salad is flavorful- dressing is delicious. The soup rivals any other chicken and rice soup we've ever had. We had asked for her opinion between the stuffed lamb and another lamb dish- she was honest and helpful and actually steered us toward the cheaper option. We asked for some of the garlic spread on the side to dip the pita in- it costs extra but DO THIS. She got slammed with a couple other tables all at once, was the only waitress working (Sunday afternoon) and she still was busting her butt and never skimped on service. We will be back. We have been coming here since it opened, and I hope they are able to stay in St. Joe as a much needed respite from burger joints and chain restaurants. The food has been getting better over the years - for example the grape leaf rolls used to have way too much lemon but are now one of my favorite items. Haven't ever sat down to eat here, but takeout is fast (15-20 minutes) and no complaints about the food quality. The quantity is more than you might expect, and the meal combos for 4 people easily feed 8 for us. One thing that I'd like to see - the falafel are only available as a fairly expensive appetizer or a very small number with a meal. These are super easy and cheap to make, I'd like to see them as an add on item with a substantially lower price. I believe they're less than a dollar a piece in most cities (including K-zoo). read more

Was visiting from out of town. La Pita popped up on near by eats. Food all has to be thrown out. Ordered Salmon kabobs and got salmon covered in a garlic tomato sauce. Would have went back but they had closed. I tried to eat it but the salmon was soggy and tasted off. Ordered fattoush salad and it wasn't even close to what it should had been, throwing some refried oily pita crumbs on top was a fail. Chicken shawarma was dry and mushy. The chicken was under seasoned and had a texture of putty. the fries were old and had been fried again. This whole meal cost $37 and all had to be thrown away. We didn't want to take chance of getting ill. read more

We ate here as a family at the request of my Grandmother who's only want was the family come together for a meal that she thought everyone would like. The family had mixed reviews of this place. Now, I want to be fair and honest in my review. My food was fine. I had the mixed chicken/beef shawarma for the main course with a greek salad and the lentil soup. All were very tasty. The rest of the family had mixed reviews concerning some of the items they had purchased. My aunt in fact went to talk to the chef about her distaste for one dish in particular, but the manager offered 50% off the item instead of taking it off the bill completely, which I thought was strange. The service could use some polishing up, as our server disappeared several times during our meal and there were no more than 3 parties in the restaurant at any given time. Also strange. Really one of the best restaurants in St Joe. and some of the best Mediterranean food I've tasted anywhere. Including the Mediterranean! The lentil soup is so incredible and so different from anything I've tasted before. It's NOT pumped with salt and garlic like most restaurants but flavorful. Is it cardamom or cinnamon or nutmeg? Not sure but it's wonderful. The prices are great and the portions are filling. Whether you're a meat eater or vegan there's plenty of fresh options. Enjoy. Solid traditional Mediterranean food, but I honestly recommend take out. The staff is thin so they're running around table to table a little for my tastes. But it's about the food and you can't do much better in the St Joe/Benton Harbor area. I enjoyed Chicken Schwarma, hummus, and babaganoush. Pretty good food. I had the Chicken Shawarma pita, and it was very good, the sauce was outstanding. I came here with a co-worker about 2 weeks ago and waited about 20 minutes to get a carry out order, which took longer than expected. There was only a table or two dining in at the time. My co-worker and I were craving the Chicken Shawarma yesterday and decided to call in our Chicken Shawarmas 15 minutes ahead of time. When we arrived, the kitchen "hadn't received the order", so we had to wait another twenty minutes for our orders. Was excited to see this place open in St Joe last time I was visiting back home - as I love falafel and hummus and there are definitely not enough true ethnic restaurants in the area. I placed an order to go and had the Dolmas wrap (vegetarian grape leaves) and a falafel wrap. Both were good - but not great. The falafel was better then the dolmas - which was a bit of a mess. I wasn't a huge fan of the pickled veggies and I would have liked it better had the pita wrap been more of a pita. It was thinner -more like a tortilla. I will try it again next time I am home, but still would like to see a bit more flavor and more authenticity. read more

This is not a fancy place, but their food is authentic and delicious! They are also fairly generous in their servings. The mixed Mezza appetizer plate was wonderful, as was the crushed lentil soup. I was not impressed with the Veggie Musakaa, it was just ok. Didn't have enough flavor for me. The Falafels were definitely worth getting. They were wonderful and not at all greasy. Just lots of great flavor and a nice crunchy coating. The pita bread was nothing special, but we didn't mind to much because the hummus & baba ghanouge were so good! Really a great little place in this neck of the woods. Nice to have Mediterranean cuisine in the midst of so many chain restaurants and fast food. We got the chicken and beef shawarma pita wraps and a falafel wrap all to go and eat on the beach. The chicken and beef held up really well, great flavor to the meat and nicely sauced. The falafel didn't hold up as well, losing its crispness and was a bit dry. I'd like to try it immediately after serving. The pittas were nicely priced at $3.99 ($3.75 for the falafel) but the rest of the dinner menu was pretty pricey. I'll come back for lunch, which seemed more reasonable. On the plus side, some of the dishes other people were eating did seem like a good size. I'll definitely be back to try others things, but most likely at lunch, at least at first. read more

The food is excellent. The waitress (the only woman working the front) has a horrible attitude. Talked short to people. Rude on phone to others. I waited on a to-go order for over 35 minutes. I asked for a side of Tahini sauce and she tried to charge me. I reiterated that I had waited for over 35 minutes on a to-go order and you wanted to charge me for one small side Tahini? I left. It came with the freshest salad with tomato and carrots and the best Salad dressing. The chicken was delicious with rice and pickles!
