This is one of the taco places we like around Cleveland area. We often get the barbacoa, al pastor, carne asada and chorizo tacos from them. Sometimes, the meats are a bit salty. The al pastor is okay. I have had better al pastor before. Their al pastor is lack of some flavors and no pineapples. Additionally, they have a condiment and garnish bar which was pretty cool. You can add whatever you want ranging from cilantro, onions, limes, picked onions, salsa verde and etc. Overall, it will satisfy your taco needs. read more

I live near Lakewood and frequent La Plaza in Lakewood. We were going to be out on the far west side and I was shocked to learn from my wife that La Plaza has a place in Amherst. It's located in a somewhat residential area - a small strip section. Currently it's just La Plaza Tacquiera, however they are in the process of adding a grocery market area. This dining area is much larger than Lakewood's and also includes a superb selection (probably 20 choices) of ice cream - yes, ice cream. And flavors you primarily do not see elsewhere - ie corn elote and mango tajin . Don't worry, they still had the likes of oreo as an option. While we did not try it, we definitely will be back very soon to partake. As for the food, top notch Mexican fare, much like Lakewood. Salsa bar is still an option with probably about 10-15 choices of add-ons. I got the taco plate (3 tacos - your choice of meat, along with rice and beans) for $15. My better half had a tamale and a taco. The air is filled with the smell of Mexican beef stewing. Served in a Styrofoam container, with plastic utensils available, everything we had was excellent. Quality wise, well above what we have in most mexican restaurants. My biggest issue - I added on lettuce, tomato and cheese (about $1 extra per taco) and helped myself to the taco add-on bar. This Styrofoam container was packed and difficult to navigate with plastic utensils. However, a minor inconvenience for the authentic quality. We would probably make the effort to go out of way to this place vs heading into nearby Lakewood which is minutes away. Much larger space, much larger grill area, better atmosphere, very clean ... plus you have homemade ice cream a few steps away. We strongly would advise you to try this place. Love this place!! I've only come twice so far, but the burritos are amazing - and the nachos will knock your socks off! There are many kinds of proteins and lots of traditional foods (?) I don't know much about "real Mexican" but there is lengua. There is a topping bar with salsas and pickled onions and sour cream. Huge portions! We have been wanting to try this place since I heard of their Lakewood location. When they opened up one in Amherst I was excited! The menu consists of tacos, quesadillas, torta and nachos. There are 6 meats to choose from. Then they have an awesome topping bar so you can customize your meal the way you want. We ordered tacos and a torta and they were overflowing with meat. The kids loved the toppings bar. Lots of indoor seating. Plus they have ice cream in the back. With popsicles and homemade ice cream with a lot of fun flavors. read more

Excellent Food Experience! We decided to take our friends here that were visiting from 1 hour away. The husband (chili rancheros and burrito) has traveled the world... he said this is the best Mexican food he's experienced in the USA. The wife loved her tacos and said beans were ok, rice was a little crunchy. But tacos were top notch. I enjoyed a pork tamale. And... we all shared a large guacamole and chips. So GOOD! My husband also enjoyed chili rancheros and a burrito. What is also fun about this place is they offer frozen desserts and HORCHATA (rice milk beverage.). Do yourself a favor... We stopped here to grab a bite. I have never eaten anything related to Mexican or Tex-Mex that tasted like their food, and I lived in the SW for many years. I do not understand the higher reviews. Maybe it was an off day or something when I stopped in, but our meals were not good. The chicken taco was not tasty, and the Tostado was sticky and moist. You could not lift the bread. Stuck. The beef was gristle and chewy. I will say the pork tamale I ordered was good. They sell them 1/2 dozen or 3.00 each--those I may pick up and serve at home with sauces. Otherwise, I can't recommend them based on our one meal. The restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff was friendly. read more

I was prepared to be disappointed... I was pleasantly surprised! Here, in backwater Amherst, is an incredible Taqueria and Michocana ice cream/popcicle/cold stuff place. It appears to be just another set of doors on the strip mall next to a Sunoco gasateria. The atmosphere was traditional taqueria with an order station near the door and large cooking area in view. Further down is the salsa/topping bar and beyind that is the bombasticaly bright and colorful ice-cream area... I ordered the taco plate which includes three tacos and beans and rice. I was allowed to use any of the available proteins in my tacos... I ordered Carne Asada (steak), Carnitas (pork}, and Chorizo (slightly spicy sausage). I also ordered a Pollo (chicken) tamale and chips. My dining partner ordered a Pollo Grande Burrito and a Mexican Coke. For those of you not in the know, Mexican Coke is still made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, just like dad drank... Slightly less sweet than the HFCS version here. In my opinion it is VERY good. Worth the extra expense. They also offered a selection of Jaritos fizzy fruit drinks and a standard fountain fare. The chips were well prepared but the mahic is the salsa bar. Many selections to choose from and I tried most of them, all excellent! My tacos were tremendous. Just the right size and well balanced flavors. I liked the chorizo and steak ones the best. I will try others on future visits. The rice was basic but tasty. The refried beans were some of the best that I have ever had. I have had a lot of refried beans! These were with perfect consistency and flavor balance. Excellent on the fork, chip, or taco! My tamale was incredibly excellent. Again well balanced flavors and a good portion. The textbook perfect consistency. Add a dash of salsa from the bar and it is so good the angels wept... My dining friend's burrito was enormous and (with a sample) delicious. Perfectly grilled to give the chewy and still slightly crunchy outside. The ice cream area is an explosion of chroma and lighting. It reminded me of Tokyo at night, but more colorful. The ice cream and popsicles are displayed beautifully and the service was fantastic. Many, many flavors to select from. I chose pineapple ice cream and it was a pleasantly unusual creamy and sherbertey mixture that resounded in the namesake flavor. Priced reasonably. Presented well (especially in the ice cream area!). Totally superlative flavors. 5 stars. I never went to the potty, so that is for a future report. 5 stars. Did I mention: 5 stars! I can't speak to the food because I didn't get any. I ordered online for the Amherst store, and when I got there I was told all online orders go to the other store, and I'd have to wait for them to make the whole order. Then, just before giving me the order, I was told that they had no vegetarian option at the Amherst store at all that day, that someone had not shown up for work. I should have been told at a couple different times in processing my order that there was no vegetarian option at the Amherst store, and not the very last thing before fulfilling the rest of the order and AFTER running my credit card for the whole amount. I grew up in Los Angeles, I know Mexican food. This place is the closest thing to authentic l've found in Clevelan.

Somehow, I missed the first year of this location! Been going to Lakewood for years, now another option! It is just as good if not better. The personal attention is a little more on point because there are less people here. I'm sure there are times when they are slammed as well. I got a vegetarian tostada and it was out of this world.
