Authentic Mexican food not made by el gringo. The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. I will be honest the place is not necessarily inviting and the decor is not the best but the food makes up for it. It is a bit dark inside but once again the authentic dishes make up for it. These folks have been here like forever. They have been great in the community so I support them. Bottom line if you are willing to go to a food truck or get gringo Mexican food, then do yourself a favor and visit these folks. Imagine yourself walking into someones house, who insists on decorating with paper mache, tinfoil and tinsel. Every 8 minutes a random spanish song emitts out of the jukebox at top volume, effectively preventing you from hearing the spanish soap on the TV. Then the food comes and all the short comings of the atmosphere are forgiven. Saying that portions are generous is an understatement. Once you walk through the doorway into what appears to be a converted house and get past the (exceptionally) loud karaoke singer you will be seated in a somewhat dark, somewhat sticky dining room with tacky paint and wobbly tables. Don't be fooled however, as this is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The burritos are STUFFED with steak, and not the 2nd rate steak you find at most places; premium quality steak with nan an ounce of gristle. $9.95 for the burrito including a side of rice and beans! The steak alone was probably worth $6 had you went to the grocery store and bought it yourself; it was seriously that chock-full-o-beef!! Also, the guacamole was excellent and clearly homemade fresh to-order. Our waitress was extra friendly and seemed like she was the granddaughter of the old Mexican abuela who, at least in my mind, was out back peeling avocados. The place was full of Mexicans grabbing a beer and dinner after work, mixed in with a few young people on dates. Authentic Mexican, I eat lunch here at least 4 times a month. I always have their famous Chimichanga con arroz y frijoles with a Bohemia beer. The waitresses are always super nice and professional. Best Mexican authentic food we have found in Fairfield county. Best part, they deliver! If you don't like Karaoke, loud singers or Mexican soaps, don't eat in, just have it delivered. Regarding the bad reviews on this site, I imagine it's hard to find an authentic Mexican food place where everyone speaks perfect English. This place did have issues in the past, but now they go to lengths to get a fluent English speaker on the phone. We used to have an issue here and there with the language barrier, but the owner,Maria, gave me her cell number and says to call her directly. She even delivers it to us herself. Coming to Fairfield for the summer from Tucson, AZ has got me seriously hankering for some good Mexican food. La Poblanita was exactly what I was looking for! Their enchiladas poblanas are really excellent, especially when paired with a cold Negro Modelo to the stirring soundtrack of a ridiculous karaoke guy who sings while you eat. I'm going with four stars instead of five because -- let's be real -- this isn't the best Mexican food I've ever had. But it's far and away the best Mexican food I've had around here. The first time I went to this place may have been 15 years ago so it's been there a long time. Located on the first floor of what looks to me like a two family house. They have great Mexican food and the place has an authentic Mexican atmosphere. Weekends are especially lively and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. Among other Mexican favorites they have Huarache, which is basically a thick oblong tortilla filled and topped with your choice of toppings, very similar to Sopes if you've had them. Good food but a shit staff. They messed up my order and when I called back the one guy that spoke a little English said it was my fault. First off I have ordered with them numerous times and never had a problem but this time they where having an off night. When I first called a woman answered in Spanish and when I replied in English she had and attitude like I inconvenienced her by speaking English. I usually enjoy the food and dont mind the language barrier, but don't be rude. As if I dont deserve the minimum of decency. I have been here twice for lunch. Although the food is reasonably priced and the portions generous, it is bland and tasteless. I ordered a steak burrito (dinner), and my friend ordered a chicken burrito. Both looked ok at best, but tasted like nothing. The chips were good, but the salsa was watery. Service was non-existent, and we were forced to go to the counter to get our bill after waiting patiently for about twenty minutes. Oh, and the staff speaks no English, which was o.k. for me because my Spanish is passable. I might try them again, but I am not optimistic. I never leave reviews but felt I had to. The food is OK but I'll order from them occasionally because they deliver. This one particular day I decided to order online. I received my confirmation and awaited my meals. I took the time to shower my two toddlers and clean up. I realized it's been 1 1/2 hours and still no food. I called them and they said oh online doesn't work. I received a confirmation on their website and they sent me an email confirmation, but it doesn't work!
