Best tamales I love the cheese version as well as the chicken. Very delicious and I'm not a tamale person but now I am!! They have great pastries too,-such a fresh and wide variety. This is one of my local bakeries and after trying others around the area, it was time give this one a try. I had high hopes for this place after reading some of the glowing reviews, but I should had paid more attention to the ones less flattering. At first sight, the place is dreadful. The customer area is poorly tended, dirty, and quite gloomy. If you look carefully you might spot a few cobwebs and traps (traps for what? I do not know). Nevertheless, some like-places have proven to serve some of the best food in town, so I was willing to over look the scene. Next, I walked over to the display and was pleased with what I saw. The cakes looked superb, very appetizing, a feast to the eyes. My mouth watered and my mind completely forgot the dreadful place. I opted for strawberry with traditional pink flowers. It looked like the perfect birthday treat. I could have taken a picture and posted it on-line for all to enjoy. A real treat to the eyes. It was taken to the party and stored 'till the appropriate moment; the time when every man, woman, and child awaits with anticipation. The box was opened and immediately the remarks were positive. I was sure it'd be a success, but alas, my optimism and pride quickly faded. One slice and the true antagonist was revealed. It was nothing but an ogre dressed in royal garments. The cake crumbled, the frosting was gummy, and the taste....ugh! My tastebuds rejected the texture and flavor of this dreadful substance with all their might, but in shame I swallowed. As I looked around, the guest did the same, but their faces could not hide the disgust. I could not hide fast enough. I was the culprit responsible for everyone's misery, including my own. Save yourselves!!! I've been generous with a rating of 2, only because beauty, even if it is without substance, is still worth something. Their Tamale's are the bomb. Went in here as our normal source (family made variety) were not going to cut it this year due to some issues. So we were looking for true home made to take the place of the one's we have known and loved for decades. They had to be mommacita approved by the matriarch of the familia for consumption at the Christmas Eve dinner table. We had tried several other bakeries / restaurants in LA that are lauded as "top tomales in LA".... well none came close. The Masa / Meat ration is fantastic and spot on. Their flavors are very good and this is the True Winner for Just like Mommacita makes them. Pork = Fantastic Pollo - Equally as Fantastic and actually better than any other I have had. Good stuff here! A great bakery with a variety of delicious pan dulce, baked in small batches throughout the day. Cakes made to order (by reasonable request made in advance, of course) and the warm, hearty champurrado is great too. It's got a more cinnamon-y taste than the traditional chocolate-based flavor which is most common. The tamales are just okay (which explains the snooty 4 out of 5 stars rating); I've had better ones 'cause I'm a fatty and I've eaten millions in my lifetime. So trust that I know. Haha! read more

Loved their Elote tamales. Their champurrado tasted and looked like hot cocoa, too watery for my taste. Their unisex bathroom's door didn't lock and it was filthy, stinky and full of graffiti (nasty) They don't clean their tables right away either. We were looking for a table to eat our tamales and all of their tables were dirty, we had to ask for more napkins to clean our table. Next time we come we'll definitely order to go. read more

Our secretary brought in a beautiful fruit tart from this place. It had a chocolate filling over a firm crust. The fruits were fresh strawberries ,kiwi,grapes and canned peaches. It was delicious. But the tart was difficult to cut because it stuck to the decorative cardboard base and it got mushy rather quickly. Been coming here since I was a kid. Best pan dulce in town. Desserts are pretty good as well and the meals that they serve now are deccent. Please pay attention to what they charge you. This isn't the first time this has happened to me here. This was the reason why I hadn't been here for a while but i wanted a tamale and stopped by early in the morning before work. I figured I give it another shot. I was charged $$29 for two tamales and a two juices. I was confused because it just didn't add up and she said it was ok. I knew something wasn't right so I asked for my receipt and the lady in the front seemed annoyed that I even asked for a receipt. She gave me my receipt and sure enough , there was 5 more additional charges! Before I can even speak she walked away and pretended she had something to do in the back. I looked over and this other lady cleaning approached me and asked what the problem was. I informed her of the situation and she called the other lady and told her she overcharged me. This lady then rolls her eyes proceeds to pass the blame something about the cash register being used prior to her. Seemed like they were both aware. I get the feeling they do this often and since people are always rushing they must get away with it a lot. The food is okay. It's a hit or miss sometimes. The tamales sometimes don't have enough meat or the juices are made with old stale ingredients. The menudo lacks flavor sometimes and they give you very little meat more caldo. I went here because I was craving pan dulce. I went here and this place did not disappoint. They sold a huge variety of pan dulce, tamales, other baked goods like cakes, even breakfast lunch and dinner Mexican plates (tacos, burritos, guisados) that were not expensive. This place has an A rating but I noticed a lot of instances that turned me off. They handled the money and then handled my bread. I asked them to use gloves/tongs and received a dirty look but it was done. The man with glasses behind the counter also sneezed and didn't cover his mouth/nose. Try somewhere else! If you like Pan Dulce!! You must come here!! There champurado is delicious!! I like going in the morning for there great tasting Breakfast mananeras (Like a small Torta) They make one with chorizo con huevo. They also make some with ham and cheese! They are perfect. Than you can leave without buying there Enpanadas of Pina and Guava! Those are my fave!! They also make apple, but I don't like apple. But I'm sure there good! :-) I totally recommend this place!
