La Rancherita 2 is a great choice for Mexican food in the Quad Cities. Their menu is a good mix of authentic Mexican dishes and standard Mexican-American fare. They offer something for everyone at a reasonable price point and the service is always welcoming and friendly. Overall, I feel that the ambiance and service at this location is superior to that of their original restaurant, La Rancherita in Rock Island. The ambiance is more like a fast casual restaurant and less like a taqueria. It also has a better parking lot and the food is equally delicious, if not better. The steak burrito is my go-to. It's a a winner for lunch or dinner! A super-sized flour tortilla filled with thinly sliced steak that is tender and well-seasoned, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream. Dine-in or takeout, it's consistently delicious and filling! From an operational standpoint, they have a couple of quirks to be aware of. First of all, it's cash only. They have an ATM in case you're not prepared. Secondly, the waitress will not bring your check to the table. It is awaiting your arrival at the cashier. This makes tipping the proper amount somewhat problematic unless you keep a running tally or like returning to the table to leave a tip. On the other hand, if it's your treat, it makes it convenient to discretely settle the tab and tip afterwards. read more

I ordered "tacos al pastor" and the pork was saturated with fat, i just tasted them and couldn't even eat them. their chips and salsa tasted like water. their horchata was subpar, and service and ambiance not at all great. What can I say, we probably get this place to-go at least a few times a month. It's consistently great! Our kiddos love the beans and rice. My husband gets the al pastor tacos and I get the carne asada tacos. The guacamole and chips are a great add on. YUM! read more

I use to go to the original location exclusively, but have moved closer to their newer place. I get the veggie burrito and they have complimentary chips. It's cash only!! Prepare accordingly. My son likes the beans and rice. I haven't had them personally, but I've heard their tacos are very, very good. In town visiting my daughter, she picked this establishment. We went around 3 o'clock, not a usual high traffic time. The waiter was prompt, brought us our chips, salsa and drinks extremely fast. I would like to point out, their chips are the hard thick type, almost grainy, not sure if they are in house.. but not to my liking. I chose American tacos, only because at home we usually eat the more authentic steak, cilantro and onion type. Kudos on doubling up the corn shells when ordered soft! Also.. the ground beef was pretty good, had more of a black pepper flavor. The waiter now was delightful. He went above and beyond his job, I had mentioned his margaritas looked good. Personally I've never enjoyed margaritas, he swore to me I would like it and brought me a sample of both a standard margarita and a mango. First time in town and this place caught my eyes, fell in love as soon as the food came.

The street tacos and green chili sauce is really tasty. It's a pain to eat here though because they're one of the only local places that don't take credit. So you end up having to use the ATM inside and get charged a high transaction fee any time you want to eat here and then you're walking around with random cash afterwards. Just put a credit card machine in and throw out the ATM machine. People don't carry cash anymore. read more

I had always enjoyed eating at both La Rancherita's locations previously but in the past year have noticed a sharp drop in food quality - the legendary "fresh-made" pico is now consistently mushy and flat-tasting. There now appears to be no real seasoning in the meat servings besides outrageously-high amounts of sodium)! The aging lettuce now lies limp and brown-stained upon their tacos with too-old stale shells. The servers have always been aloof and seldom present but now appear to have honed their skills at ambivalence and dismissiveness to an unprecedented high level completely ignoring the customer after serving their foul meal. The restaurant's long-standing refusal to accept alternate forms of payment (cash-only here), has always seemed uncaring and arrogant and sadly has finally compelled me to take my business elsewhere. read more

The food is decent but the service is confusing. When you first get there the server is super nice and gets you drinks and takes your food order. After you get your food you'll have to track down that server if you need anything because they'll likely never come back to your table. The food is decent but it was really weird the first time I went there waiting for the server to get a box for my leftovers (ended up just getting up and asking for one) and then waiting forever for a check that would never come until we found that they just keep them all by the door and you just go pay at the register and they find your check up there. Very impressed for the Quad Cites. Better than a lot of small Mexican restaurants in Chicago. Authenticity reminds me a lot of Cuernavaca Mexico. The place is quaint. No over the top service. This is a cash only restaurant and you will pay at the register when you leave. If you are looking for a 5 Star service experience this is not your spot but if you want to transport yourself to an authentic taqueria from Mexico it hits the spot. So when you go to a place like this, it is more about the food. The steak tacos, rice and beans are delicious The guacamole is decent the one draw back is that the chips are not that fresh. I tried the shrimp cocktail and had some tacos. The food taste is bland they need to use more cilantro and ingredients in the food especially given the high prices. The restaurant itself looks very nice and new with many tv's and nice renovation maybe that is why they don't have great ingredients on their food. read more
