I had the Sombrero Special. It was a chicken burrito and chicken enchilada along with the usual accompaniments for a casual Mexican restaurant (lettuce, tomato, guacamole, etc). I was not impressed. It wasn't terrible, but was not really very flavorful either. For dessert, I had the sopapillas. Again, they were adequate, but nothing memorable. Prices were on the low side, which was probably appropriate for the quality of the food. The food is adequate, if you are in downtown Leclaire and really hungry. If I was going out specifically for a meal, this would not be my first choice for Mexican food in the Quad Cities.

This food is Mexican food for folks who have never eaten real Mexican food. The meat choices for the hard shell tacos are ground beef or chicken. The enchiladas, same. This is not Al pastor, lingua, carne asada, etc., etc., type of real Mexican food, never served in hard pre-made shells. I struggled down the ground beef enchiladas and left the taco. If you enjoy, say, Rudy's in the Quad Cities, you will probably enjoy the food very much. If you expect to find something more authentic to order for lunch your not going to be happy. This "food" was over $13 with tax. Way more expensive than actual authentic, filling, delicious, Mexican food in the Q.C.. I hate to give less than positive reviews, but honesty is important as well. Maybe "real" Mexican food wouldn't work for everyone at their location, but I think if they had an option or two they would gain a lot more good repeat customers including me.

I stumbled across this very well hidden place and walked in not even knowing if they served food or if it was just an ice cream place. And man, and I glad I did. Their menu was very ambitious and outstanding with many creative twists on Mexican fare. I ordered the Barbacoa Tacos and was expecting the run of the mill quality tacos. Again, I was wrong. Way way exceeded my expectations. The tacos were prepared barbacoa style and fried in beef consomme I believe, plenty of melted cheese and well seasoned meat inside, topped with a sauce and pickled onion, with neatly prepared sides of their house made hot sauce, chopped fresh cilantro, and diced onion. The plate was artfully decorated with drops of avocado puree, with a fresh lime wedge on the side. And on top of that there was a bowl of hot beef consomme for dipping/sipping. The plate looked beautiful, and the food lived up to the presentation. Delicious, and the best tacos I've had in this area, and I've had them at a lot of places. Decor is simple, not fancy at all, and a bit odd as the restaurant shares a slice of the small storefront maybe 8 ft wide, while the La Michoacana Ice Cream business takes up the rest of the location. They even have different colored booths divided down the middle of the room. A bit strange. And the location doesn't do justice to the amazing food. They also serve breakfasts which sound fantastic. I believe they also deliver through one of the delivery services. The place is also a coffee shop and features some very nice looking pastries as well. Check out their Facebook page for latest updates to hours, menu, etc. I am definitely going back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some unique and beautifully prepared Mexican food. The owner is a culinary school graduate and it certainly shows. So surprising to find this level of quality so hidden away in such a small place shared with another business. We were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated in this very casual and sparsely decorated restaurant. Our server was pleasant and was quick to bring us chips salsa, and our beverages. We were able to get our lunch for a reasonable price. However, it's probably not the best Mexican food we've had. Queso sauce tasted more like melted Velveeta, guacamole was fresh, but bland. Chicken enchiladas were presented very nicely, however again tend to lack seasoning. The cheese enchiladas were indeed very cheesy, but that's probably about all we could say.
