We couldn't get in that weekend so I booked the reservation two weeks out because why not! It had already been too long since I have had the amazing wagyu fajitas. When we arrived, we were seated quickly so that was really nice. It was our first time being seated upstairs - not sure if that's why our experience wasn't great. The waiter also came pretty quickly and I ordered a margarita - my husband was still deciding. My margarita came out quickly but of course the waiter took 20 minutes to come back and get my husband's drink order. The ice in my rocks margarita was melted. I could not believe it because I have never had bad service here. My husband asked the waiter what was on draft and the waiter started to tell us and then his face changed and he told us that the draft beer is really flat. That he should order a bottle. That was kinda weird for such a "nice" restaurant. I swear this restaurant used to be nice. Our food came out in a timely manner. The food runners were really on top of it. But we probably didn't see our waiter for almost an hour after that. When we were finished, the waiter chatted with the table behind us for a bit and we were sure he was going to come to our table EVENTUALLY. It took maybe 20 minutes or longer until I started sitting with my purse on my lap, both me and my husband looking around the whole dining room, when a different waiter offered to clear our table. My husband asked for the check and our waiter magically appeared and the second waiter joked that "that was fast huh?" Absolutely insane. Our waiter had some visitors coming up from downstairs and I think this is why he was checked out. But it was so incredibly rude to pay literally no attention to our table. We are very easy customers. I cannot believe I waited two weeks to have the worst service in Dallas. The other Tex Mex restaurants in the area have way better service with equally good food. After all we don't need bone marrow in literally everything to enjoy a great restaurant. I can no longer recommend Las Palmas after this experience that made us feel so unwelcome and I have LOVED Las Palmas over the years.

There was a time when Meso Maya was the go-to for upscale Mexican in Dallas. The culinary scene in Dallas has changed so much that it is not longer the case. But the downtown Meso Maya remains an icon and continues to deliver consistently good food and service. The restaurant still has the warm ambience and remains in good condition even after all these years. It was too hot to sit on the patio so we ate indoors. The interior is smaller than I remember. The restaurant still starts you out with complimentary chips which are strips, and a smoky, spicy salsa. it was great. I started with the a mescal margarita and it was excellent. The kid had Topo Chico and the wife had Prosecco. Everyone enjoyed their drink. For entrees, the wife had her favorite, the vegetable budin, which is like a lasagna. The flavors were deep and rich. She loved it. I tried the carne tacos and they were excellent! The meat was tender and smoky. The beef had been marinated for a wonderful flavor. Good quality with no fat. I usually avoid ordering beef at restaurants because I often get more fat than meat which I detest, but not at Meso Maya. Our server Luis was very good. Present when we wanted and not when we did not. Overall, the restaurant was a hit on every level--ambience, service, and food. We like the downtown location the best and will return.

I was not disappointed at all with this experience and it offered a ton of great food options. I was so full at the end of this experience, however, every single food item I tried was great and kept me wanting more. To highlight a couple of the items given on that "secret" experience was the tamales, the wagyu steak and the green sauce that came with it, and the sponge cake at the end was a great finisher. I really did enjoy the entire experience of the restaurant and the food. The entire staff was on top of their game and made sure that we had a great time. For me this restaurant was a 9 out a 10.
