    QUESO BLANCO

Here is another place I would have sworn that I had reviewed before, yet I got a reminder from Yelp to review them, so I double-checked and low and behold there was no review there from Kurt V,, so here it is... I have been coming here for a few years now and have always had a very good experience every time. Parking is always good and available, even when they are busy. The restaurant itself is always clean and orderly. And the staff is always friendly and efficient. My favorite go-tos are the Queso Blanco and the Chicken Fajitas. The Queso is second to none. The Chicken Fajitas always have a nice wood grilled flavor to them that is sure to please you! A few times I have made it to dessert, but not very often. My favorite dessert herebis the churros. They are delicious in their own right, but they also give you different dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or even a vanilla cream. They are served hot and fresh!

This was my fourth visit, and once again Mexican Sugar did what it always does -- deliver food that tastes like it was made with pride and a little bit of flair. The ambiance has that relaxed, easy energy that makes you want to stay awhile. My absolute favorite is the striped sea bass -- tender, flavorful, and even better with their great selection of white wines. The chips are perfectly chippy (yes, I said it) and pair beautifully with their salsa. Whether you're meeting a group, catching up casually, or hosting a business get‑together, this spot hits the mark every time. Consistent, tasty, and effortlessly cool.

I finally branched out and got something other than the fish tacos. I got the carne asada tacos. The meat was cooked perfectly, though really under seasoned. Every time I have come here for the fish tacos I have felt the same. It is like they don't add salt to their proteins. I don't want it salty, but meat needs a little seasoning to make it pop. Also I got NO chimichurri off of that. They also came out so fast, I had just gotten chips and salsa and even the bartender commented on it. I want to like this place more than I do, because it is ALMOST there. I need to check out another location to see if this is just this location or how the brand, rolls. The decor is great and they have a nice patio. It was on the warm side when I was last there in July, and I was just sitting at the bar. They also don't have any purse hooks and the seats are rounded so you either have to take up another seat or put your handbag on the bar.

I visited this spot with a friend and my toddler for brunch last year, and the atmosphere did not disappoint. The space is absolutely gorgeous--thoughtfully designed, welcoming, and full of character. We were seated in the back area, which was perfect for families and larger parties. Meanwhile, the bar and more intimate dining spaces in the front were buzzing with energy. It was clear that the restaurant was thriving that day, and I loved the overall vibe. Our food arrived surprisingly fast, and we were able to relax, enjoy our meal, and have a great time. From the hostess who welcomed and seated us to the waiter who made sure everything was correct, the service was attentive and appreciated. Everything appeared to be running like a well-oiled machine, so shoutout to the management team for creating such a smooth experience. The reason for my 4-star rating comes down to the food. While the presentation was top-tier and looked incredible, the flavors didn't quite match the visual appeal. I also returned for dinner on another occasion and was disappointed by the fish tacos. That said, the atmosphere, service, and overall experience were strong enough that I'm willing to give this place one more try--perhaps for a future dinner date. I'm hoping the next meal lives up to the beautiful setting.

Came here during the week for lunch and thought the tacos were really good! I loved the rice and beans too.

This restaurant never fails! Hadn't been in awhile for no particular reason! We were seated pretty quickly for Friday evening. It was getting crowded. We sat on the patio. Our server was nice. The food didn't take long at all. I had sea bass salad with citrus salad. The bass was cooked good and flavorful. Very light! I had the sina colada which was non alcoholic. It was ok. I will definitely come back!

We recently dropped by on a Monday night. We were seated immediately since it was not as busy as it on the weekend. We started out with The Queso Flamado. It was a great presentation being torched at the table side, It was a little heavy and oily and I prefer the Regular Queso. We also got the Tequila Shrimp Salad. For an entree, I got the Mesquite Grilled Beef Enchiladas. The Salad and the Enchiladas were tasty. We also got The Corn Elote. It just the right amount of cream and paprika. The Yucca Fries were the perfect level of crispiness. For dessert, we got The Flan and The Churros. You can't beat the Churros with all the different dipping sauces. The ambience is casual upscale but you will be fine wearing jeans there. We will definitely come back.

Visited 6/30 before a concert, we expected them to be busy so we made a reservation because this was our first visit. When we got there there was plenty of tables but by the time we left every seat was sat. Our server was Alex D he was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered a few different drinks off both the happy hour menu and the regular menu from espresso martinis, to draft beer, and spicy margaritas. Everything was so good. We had the white queso, crab enchiladas, side of elote, and the shrimp and elote tacos. The ambiance was beautiful, dimly lit with an open kitchen making it a very intimate dinner. We will have to come back next time we're in town.

We came to celebrate my sister in laws birthday and everyone complained about the seasoning. The service was great, good timing and the waitress was nice. The ambiance was great but outside seating was too hot. I had the mole enchiladas, it came with rice and beans. The beans and rice were bland and tasteless. Literally the worst rice and beans I've ever had. The mole was not good either. After experiencing this, I asked around if it was just me or if everyone had the same issue. Everyone said the same thing. I asked around to give a rating from 1-10 and everyone said less than a 5. The place looks good but it was very disappointing.

That was my pork chop before I started eating

I am not typically a Mexican food person. The chips and salsa were out of this world. Our way to recommend recommended the pork chop and it was fantastic. I was with a business colleague and we both got it. It was so good.

What a beautiful restaurant! If you're looking for a cute date night or even a girls dinner, this is the place to go. The lighting is moody, and on the darker side and the restaurant itself is large but it gets so busy that it does feel tight when walking around. We attended a private party in one of the rooms, which was closed off from the rest of the restaurant. Overall a great space for the ~37 people and even a space open for a guitarrist. The room itself did get a little warm and dark, but it was a very intimate feel. The acoustics was definitely a little rough, since we weren't able to hear each other very well with the noise from the rest of the party or when the doors opened and the rest of the restaurants noise filtered in. Service for the most part was not bad, refills had to mainly be requested since they stopped quickly by each table and rather than check with everyone it was a "refill?" and quickly walk away. Bar orders from the servers went a lot more smoothly. The food was not bad, to be expected for the area. We had great chips and salsa with queso and guacamole to start. You honestly can't go wrong. The cesar salad was okay and the enchiladas were not too bad. I was a huge fan of the refried black beans and my husband was a huge fan of the cilantro lime rice. The steak in the enchiladas were a little too well done and another party goer had some chicken fajita that the knife would not cut through because it was so overcooked. Overall the food was okay. This is definitely a vibes and drinks place

Loved this place! The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had. The drink was beautiful and delicious, and the service was amazing--everyone from the hostess to the servers was excellent. I'm just visiting but already want to come back before we leave!

Sat at the bar for dinner by myself while staying at a nearby hotel. They had so many employees behind the bar and running around the restaurant. Everyone I interacted with was great and took care of me. The margarita was delicious and the chips and salsa were unique. The salsa was a warm salsa and more like a mole than a traditional salsa. The enchiladas were large and pretty good but nothing special. The side of elote was also large and I couldn't even finish it. It was full of flavor and the perfect side to go with my meal. The restaurant was packed with a huge line outside waiting but the bar had plenty of open seats. I would come back for sure.

When we asked the manager about it, he didn't seem to know they changed this. 10/25/25 was 8.25% tax (including alcohol in the order). All recent bills were anywhere from 13% to 16.5% hidden in the "tax" line, not even itemized. I'm sure because they know most won't realize it. This may explain why on a Friday at 5pm (even with a social hour) the bar was empty except for one other couple. The menu leans Mexican fusion, with standout seafood and steak options across the board. One of my personal favorites is their sea bass special with pineapple reduction. It's beautifully balanced sweet, savory, and rich without being heavy and comes with perfectly cooked charred vegetables on the side. The drinks are excellent, especially the margaritas, which definitely lean on the stronger side, fair warning that one drink can feel like two. Save room for dessert too; they offer a solid selection of cakes and sweets that are a great way to close out the meal. Service is attentive and warm, and they also have private group dining rooms available, making it a great option for corporate events or holiday parties. The manager also came and gave us free beef fajita samples since he found out it was our first time. The flavor and juiciness of the beef blew me away. Living in Sioux Falls has many positives, but distinct and deeply flavorful Mexican cuisine is unfortunately still something that's a little harder to come by compared to places like Arizona or Texas. So, we made it a point to stop at Lupe Tortilla while passing through Irving. The first thing we noticed was how packed the restaurant was during lunch. People were pouring in steadily, and the atmosphere had that energetic local favorite feeling where you know people come because they genuinely enjoy the food. Thankfully, the meal itself delivered. Now, was it the absolute best Mexican food I've ever had? No. But it was still leagues beyond most of what we've experienced lately back home in South Dakota. The carne asada especially stood out. The portion was massive, tender, and packed with smoky, savory flavor. You could immediately tell it had actually spent some time on a grill instead of simply being rushed out of a kitchen. We also enjoyed the tacos, enchiladas, and burritos, all of which had that comforting Tex-Mex richness and seasoning that we've really missed. Unfortunately, we were on a fairly tight travel schedule and couldn't linger the way we would have liked. Honestly, this felt like the sort of place where you could easily sit awhile longer, enjoy another drink, sample more dishes, and just soak in the lively atmosphere. Still, even as a quick stop, it was a great experience and a delicious reminder of how much we miss the bold Mexican food culture of the Southwest.

Digo yo... no sé. Mejorar estos dos detalles llevaría la experiencia en El Viejón a otro nivel. ¡El Viejón, recomendadísimo! ------------------------------------- Leaving DFW airport, I found myself craving seafood soup--no idea where the craving came from. I searched for nearby options and El Viejón came up. I checked the online menu and reviews, then drove 13 minutes, only to discover a real gem. What I loved: The service was excellent. Nidia took care of us--she was not only kind, but also attentive and efficient. Adolfo, the manager, is a great guy. The simple but important things: Their plastic cups are surprisingly original. The menu is simple and humorous. Prices are fair for the generous portions they serve. What truly impressed me: The seafood soup. This kind of soup is simple: either you know how to make it, or you don't--and when you don't, it ends up like the one at Pappadeaux... something to cry about. This one, however, is loaded with seafood (crab, clams, octopus, fish, shrimp, squid, etc.). It has a subtle sweetness, and you can taste every distinct note. Highly recommended. One soup is more than enough for one person. I learned that lesson too late--after also ordering the grilled octopus. I had to get it to go because it was simply too much food. My only two complaints: The tostadas they serve come with chicken that looks like tuna but tastes like plastic. My dog was with me and wouldn't even eat it--which says a lot. Very strange. The other issue is the music: too loud and all from the same genre. If the goal is to honor Mexican culture, there are so many genres to choose from. Just saying--I don't know. Fixing these two things would take the experience at El Viejón to another level. El Viejón--highly recommended.

This place was a big disappointment!!! Walking in was your typical Mexican seafood place. Looked…read moremore like a cantina than a restaurant. We had fish soup, shrimp and fish filet with fries, coctel de camaron and taco de ceviche. The fish soup had a bad taste to it, the filet and shrimp were greasy, the coctel de camaron should have had more of a tomato taste they usually use Clamato. The tostada de ceviche was too fishy tasting! The chips came out with some kind of slaw to dip in. Not your normal chips and salsa. I will say that our server Luz Maria was very nice and the margaritas were good! But that's it!!! I don't know what all the hype is about here. Not near the kind of restaurant it should be for what they charge!!
