I was on vacation in my diesel motorhome passing through Paso Robles when I suddenly could not accelerate. I found La Rosa Automotive online. I spoke with John I believe is the owner and told him my situation and location. My motorhome is 40 ft so I was not sure who could tow it. John had a guy call me and the tow truck was there in minutes. Arrived at La Rosa Automotive and they quickly found that a thin rod had dis attached itself from the acceleration system. A part was sent to his shop in minutes and with one hour I was back on Hwy 101. Thank you La Rosa Automotive for a very reasonably priced repair and repaired in a very short amount of time. Nice guy, but completely unreliable. Did a good job on my first car I took in. Each one thereafter got progressively worse. I would call the shop, sometimes they would answer, most times they didn't. When they do answer you get told "I don't know, call Jonathan's cell", which he doesn't answer, and you can't leave a message because the mailbox is full. The last vehicle I took there, for a 30 min diagnosis, I went and commandeered back from the mechanics after 3 days of no response from Jonathan. Too bad, I wanted them to be better. read more

Crook. I've paid over 10K to Jonathan, and almost 2 years later, still no car. I paid for an engine replacement, paying extra for a warranty on the labor and engine itself. It took him months to finish, and only after I hassled him. Car worked for 2 weeks. Back at the shop, it took him months, again, to 'fix' it. Had it for just a week, with new problems from poor re-assembly right out of the shop, before it failed again. Now he's had my car for 10 months. Nothing. He won't return texts. When he does it's an endless line of personal excuses, including, get this, "It's too hot to work." Do yourself a favor and stay far, far, very very far away from this scam. What a mess. Update... So, here's the deal, first impressions with this shop seem pretty good, but over time and issue after issue with the same car I've decided I've had enough of this place. Long story short, this is a crooked shop. They put in minimal effort, they fix everything BUT the problem, tell you to fix it yourself, then charge you double for fixing what they were asked to fix the first time. I took my truck in to problem solve, was told 85$ to diagnose, after that hour was up he said he needed 3 to 4 more hours to diagnose properly. My truck was there for "loss of power up steep hills gas related. I don't mind paying for diagnose, but a 500$to 600$ bill for diagnose,is crap.. I took car to other shop, they charged me two hundred. My husband & I were coming back from Santa Barbara where we had just helped our son & his girlfriend move to & were on our way back home to Santa Cruz. With the intense heat, we had our A/C on the whole way and noticed our van was overheating about half way home. With the grace of God the very next exit led us to La Rosa Automotive. To make a long story short... Mr. La Rosa drove us to get our rental car, stored our van over the Labor Day weekend (at NO CHARGE!) and worked with the towing company to get our van back to Santa Cruz. I called La Rosa's this morning, drove my car in for A/C service and planned to walk home. I was delighted that Mr. La Rosa himself offered me a ride home without any delay. In less than 1/2 hour, his office called me to let me know Mr. La Rosa was on his way to my house in my car! The A/C now works perfectly with chilly 29° air available! This service was fantastic! I was 120 miles from home and my radiator blew. When I called La Rosa they said yes have it towed to their garage. They could get me in on this day. As I waited for the tow truck Jonathan drove up and asked if my son and I were oaky and if we needed a ride. When we arrived at La Rosa garage he gave me a very reasonable price. He said he would put 2 guys on it since we were from out of town so we could get going. The radiator was replaced faster then what we waited for the tow truck. La Rosa was awesome. Do not let this shop service your vehicle. To start the owner Jon is a complete D%$#. Second he marks up his parts like 300% and charges you a ton. Last but not least the shop is slow you give them your car and they say it will be done at a certain time and seems like they never hit that promise time. I have used them twice and the same outcome both times. I heard good reviews so I used them the first time i went in had a lousy experience so i figured it was an off day so I tried them again and I found out it wasn't just a bad day its just how he runs his shop. Up here from San Diego visiting family. On a Sunday we found the steering box on my truck leaking fluid pretty bad...was planning on going home Monday morning...but not driveable back home. Monday morning I started checking Yelp for a shop to repair it. After going down the list 6 places, I came to La Rosa's. He was the only one that said he could look at it NOW and see if he could repair it the same day. We get there and make the arrangements for him to inspect it. No breakfast at this point, so he recommends AND drives us to this great little hole in the wall diner, then picks us up. We're back there, he explained the situation. Fortunately the parts were available and he said it would be done for us that day. During the repair, it was found that another part was worn beyond reusing. We will NEVER use this company again. We took our truck in for diagnostic testing for the check engine light. We told them that we had just REPLACED the mass air flow with a new part. We were charged $85 to clean the brand new mass air flow. We were also charged outrageously for a new fuel filter, that was not authorized for replacement. The total estimated bill-----over $900!!!!! Because of the frivolous repairs that were done, it cost over $300 to get possession of our truck back. We took it just up the street and for UNDER $300, our truck was fixed. read more

I would NOT let them touch a lawn mower of mine. We went there got an estimate of 200$ and we agreed upon that. We go back the next day the invoice was 850$. There was no phone call to us informing us of the increase. I am understanding things happen it is an estimate and it may be a little more but to be 650 dollars more that was excessive. I asked him since we weren't called can we work with the price a little bit not looking for anything free and he acted foolish. He told me his business makes money and hes not a f##ning ni#ger he doesnt work for free. Pardon my language but that was what i was told the day i went to get the vehicle. We paid with a debit card and disputed the charges. My bank was going to refuse the whole amount but i told them to approve 500. I am more than fair i didn't expect anything for free. The really bad part was i had it at another shop and found the part he replaced was from a junkyard. It was used parts he installed. I took my car in 3 weeks ago, I lived Atascadero for over 30 years and this mechanic was recommended to me. I want to warn you since you would think by the 3 reviews that he is an honest mechanic but trust me he IS NOT. He changed 3 parts in my car, had my car for a period of 3 weeks, one time for 3 straight days and could not fix the problem but it still ended up costing me over $1500.00. He changed parts that were not neccessary, just because he didn't know what the problem was. Big parts, like an alternator that costs $500, fuel filter, transmission and gaskets all because it wouldn't start sometimes. Took it to another mechanic in town since Jonathon told me he couldn't fix it and he said that La Rosas should have found the problem right away. It took him only 2 hours and a $90 part to find and fix the problem. This mechanic told me to report him to the BBB because he replaced good parts on my car that were not neccessary and cost me over $1500. I went to Jonathan to give him a chance to resolve the issue and told him that another mechanic found the problem and asked him to at least pay for the labor that I spent for another mechanic to find the problem that he could not which again was only 2 hours and he said NO, and that the other mechanic is crazy!
