Wow talk about customer service. I have worked in the service industry for over ten years and I can tell you service comes from a top down effort; The owner of this restaurant saw me and my wife walking in to the restaurant after the kitchen was closed. He recognized my wife was pregnant got up from eating his own dinner after working a shift and made a personal pie for my wife. I could write some more but do I really have to. I ordered paparadelle with a sausage ragu. The sauce was very good. But these people have no right to use the word "paparadelle" with this dish. It's basically lasagna. Paparadelle is not curled and is made with EGG. This was nothing like paparadelle, having no egg, curly Iike lasagne, twice the width (or more) of paparadelle and quite mushad! I ate around the awful pasta, disgusted that the great ragu was ruined by it--an Italian restaurant has no idea what paparadelle is? I mean, you can be creative, but if you venture outside the norm, you better have photos. PS don't dress the Caesar salad. Dressing and croutons on the side. Long overdue review as this is our go-to spot in Commack. We think the pizza is the best in town, and their food is delicious without fail, any dish from the menu (and we have tried many, from the lasagna to the meatballs, from penne di rabbe to the chicken parm, veal cutlets, penne vodka, etc.) Service is always friendly and efficient, food is great for pickup and the ambiance of the restaurant, if eating in, is very nice. read more

Again another great time with friends from out of town. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious and well portioned ( as is always the case here). Tried the combo dishes for the first time and again was not disappointed. You get three meat choices along with spaghetti and once again I needed a take home box . The Farfalle La Scala, Pasta Del Rey and Chicken Picatta were all delicious and well portioned. The ladies even indulged in a bottle of Chardonnay while catching up. We didn't have room for dessert (again) but we topped off our meals with a great cup of cappuccino. Overall a great Italian restaurant offering friendly service and great food. Disappointed to see that La Scala only has a 3.7 rating on here. Perhaps most of the people who go here are spoiled because they live close and have a large selection of other Italian eateries nearby. Full stop... this is a 5-star establishment for the grab-and-go food. The pizza, the calzones... whatever you can get in the main takeout area is top notch for value, service, and taste. Really, I have had pizza from many different places across the world, and La Scala is THE BEST. My absolute favorite pizza spot in the whole world. I am not a biased person. You need to try it for yourself. Start with a basic cheese slice and then expand to various different pizza types. Then have yourself and a date at one of their pasta nights and go for a rigatoni or a stuffed ravioli. My mouth is watering thinking about my next visit. And the prices are really reasonable. I cannot believe I've never dined in before! We've been living in the area for 20 years, and we've sporadically done takeout for pizza or catering for a family event, but last week, my mom and I made the unusual decision to have dinner here, just the two of us, and I was blown away by two main things: 1. The Insalata Milano! I can rave about this salad all day every day, and I think that's saying something! (I mean, who gets that excited about a salad? Not me! Or not usually, anyway.) I've been thinking about and craving this salad every. day. since. The arugula, the beets, the goat cheese, the pignoli nuts, the chickpeas--everything was in abundance and in perfect harmony! All these ingredients are listed in the description and there is plenty of all of it! BEST SALAD OF MY LIFE. I literally came here to write this review for this salad. 2. The service! Quality of service is the top thing I look for in a restaurant, arguably even more than the taste of the food (you can have great food but if the service is garbage, I am NOT going back there). Our server didn't overdo it on the friendliness or talking, and yet he was kind and so thoughtful and intuitive. My mom and I ordered the one salad and one pappardelle ragu, and even though we didn't ask, he split both dishes on two plates so we could share, which is exactly what we intended. That might seem like common sense, but I was blown away! And both portions, especially the salad, were equally generous, not at all as if he just split one dish into two. We left full and with leftovers! In addition to these two main things that will bring me back to La Scala again and again, I appreciated that there was really nothing else that would deter me from coming again. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, a nice local pizza place with a clean dining area in the back, typical of what you find on Long Island. I thought the ragu sauce was a bit sweet, which isn't my preference, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Something we often take for granted on Long Island, but there is also ample parking, so no worries there! I was also very surprised that there were so many menu items that I actually wanted to eat! I like Italian, but I often find the pasta menus limited and less than exciting. On La Scala's menu, there are several pastas that I will be back to try and the salad menu, for the first time in my life, had MULTIPLE salads that sound absolutely delish! I can't wait to come back! I'm a one-restaurant-regular kinda gal and am pretty picky about restaurants, but La Scala is one that I am adding to my (very short) list! read more

Anytime I am in the Commack area and are craving Italian this is the go to place. I usually order a slice of pizza but this time we ordered paninis and sat in the back. With the panini deal, we were able to also get a soup or salad. My aunt lives in the nearby area and she always uses this placr to get catered from! WARNING: I AM BIASED. I've been eating here for 10 years and I never left a review. Here we go. Lunch order with a 3-year-old toddler. Good place for kids, pretty casual. Ordered the Chipotle Chicken square slice (a little spicy), a barbecue chicken slice (sauce is VERY sweet), two spinach garlic knots, and shared a garden salad with my wife. Chipotle Chicken was excellent, had a bit of kick to it. Barbecue Chicken was very sweet, but that's what I expected. Spinach garlic knots are 10/10, try them if you come. Garden salad was 0/10. Very disappointing. Similar to the joke Family Guy makes about pizzeria salads. It was just all around mediocre. Barely cut lettuce, not much going on in terms of olives/tomatoes/onions. Balsamic vinaigrette on the side was meh. Just very plain and could be better. (normally we order the Gorgonzola salad which is 10/10) Some customer was coughing all over the pizzeria eating area, so we asked to be moved to the dining room, and they said sure, no problem. The toddler made a bit of a mess on the table, we left a little tip because we just carried our food over, but we love this restaurant, so it is worth it. We have been patrons of LaScala for slightly over 2 years. Although we usually go there for dinner, we stopped in for a slice of Pizza at lunchtime Christmas Eve. They had the entire rear of the restaurant blocked off with tables of takeout just sitting there. Nothing was refrigerated and frankly as a food professional I was thinking to myself this food is probably not safe to consume if it's been out more than 2 hours. Anyway the reason for my one star review was that they wouldn't allow my husband,an 82 year old veteran to use the restroom. The back was off limits to paying customers. Really LaScala, shame on you! I noticed all their specialty pies were freshly cooked (so much so that I got my eggplant slice right away without them having to throw it in the oven first), which leads me to believe all their slices are gold enough that they don't have extras at the end of the night to use the following morning. Lots of good pizza options here, but this review is for the restaurant in the back. I've been here for events like retirements, and this was my second lunch. I've been impressed every time. They offer lots of good Italian standards - I've had the combo meals in the past and they are one of my favs. This year I went with the Vitello Rollatini and upgraded the veg side to broccoli rabe for $3. Last night had La Scala's for New Year's Eve dinner and ordered from their big trays. An immense amount of food, however, is always very good. We have been to L Scala a couple of times to dine in. Last night was a first to cater. All food was hot, fresh, and a good mixture in sauces with no dryness. Suggestion: Pizza is better served at the restaurant. I personally thought the three pieces we ordered were a little greasy. Still was tasty. The slices could have been less soaked in oil. It's one of many favorites if you are from Commack. The calamari was gross and the mozzarella sticks were from Costco. I'm truly disappointed. I didn't taste the other dishes we bought but the review was not good. I hate leaving an unpleasant review but coming from someone who cooks authentic Italian dishes, I will not be coming back. If I would have seen a hint of parsley or had a taste of garlic in my marinara this place would have gotten a better review. I hope that you are able to be open minded and see what others are putting out there for take out. Right now this restaurant doesn't compete. La Scala pizza is one of those foods you think about often. Is it worth flying from AUS to EWR and then crawling on the LIE for? Yes! The pizza, in my mind is perfection. They nail it. The crust, the cheese, the sauce. It's my favorite NY slice anywhere. Also, all of their other food is great too. I went to this place for my birthday at the end of July this year and I had the most amazing dish and they gave you so much food. I had zucchini linguine Firenze. It was homemade zucchini, linguine, sautéed with grilled chicken, tomatoes, celery, onions, mozzarella, and breadcrumbs, garlic, and oil. This meal had so much flavor and taste to it. Wow, been here several times and everything was good. Today we stopped by for dinner, we were seated relatively quick. Water and bread came next, that was it, we had waited almost 30 mins no one came over to take a drink or dinner order. We decided to leave, told the hostess why and all she could say is sorry. This place is hit or miss lately. I've gone here for about 40 years. Recently I'm in Commack often. I went this first time for lunch it was delish, next dinner delish, back for lunch still good, last time the soup was mealy. Like it was frozen and defrosted which I'm sure is normal but this must have been past expiration. It was horrible. I could not even eat it. Left hungry. It's just not the same as the prior owner. Being that it's Passover, but I've been craving Italian, I decided I would get zucchini noodles. I've been on a vegetarian kick for about two weeks. So I went simple, zucchini noodles with broccoli, garlic and oil. Although the meal itself was just decent in flavor, and a generous portion (I can easily make 4 meals out of it), it was very liquidy. Very watery/oily. Zucchini noodles need to be dried after spiralizing them. There was so much liquid in the container that I decided to measure it just to see how much. It was almost a cup! To substitute zucchini noodles is an extra $3.50. Kinda pricy in my opinion to substitute...but healthy is more expensive. I'm very torn. However, I feel I would come back to try something else. read more

This Commack staple has been here since 1974 serving this community proudly. My company has been using them since then for take out and special occasions and they have never disappointed. Tonight is the first time I ventured here outside of work with my lovely wife. We started with the ridiculously large scampi garlic knots with a homemade olive marina cheese tapenade to dip and I actually wanted to swim in it. Next up were our overwhelming large entrées. I had the #3 combo which was chicken and veal cutlets, an Italian sausage and a meatball in a fantastic marina that I almost finished. My wife went with the shrimp, mussels, clams fra diavalo over angel hair and we like it spicy and it was . We decided to eat outside even though there was a deluge of gnats as were leaving our home in Hicksville that seemed to follow us all the way to Commack but luckily we were able to finish our meal before they really ramped up. My wife was raving about it the whole way home so I'm certain we will be back here many more times in the future. read more

This place puts out delicious authentic Italian cuisine. They bring you out garlic knots to nibble on while your food is prepared. Going by the quality of the knots I knew I was in for a great meal. I ordered the stuffed flounder. Which is stuffed with crab meat, lobster, and shrimp with a side of angel hair pasta. It was delicious and full of flavor. My brother had the Parmesan shrimp which he loved. The kids all ordered the buffalo chicken subs which was destroyed in no time. Which is a testament to the goodness this spot puts out. Nothing was left to be boxed and taken home. The service was great, they were attentive and took your plates away when you were done eating. They take pride in their service and cooking. We've been to La Scala many times. The pizzas are delicious...the kind that you wish other parts of the country were able to make. In the next room is the dining room with tables and booths. We were seated immediately. Our friendly waiter came over and took our drink orders a martini and gin and tonic and brought us water. Another waiter brought over a basket of garlic nuts, which were delicious, but had a tad more oil than needed. The appetizers were delicious...stuffed artichoke, clams casino. The next course was minestrone and onion soup. All of this was a meal in itself. I ordered a penne, sausage and broccoli rabe entree, but we had ordered too much food. It was boxed to take home. It was delicious, but too salty. The desserts were cannolis and to top off this deluxe lunch we had cappuccinos. The timing of the check was perfect. Give La Scala a try. I've been to La Scala twice before and both times I have had a wonderful experience! My first visit to La Scala was for lunch with a co-worker. I ordered a penne vodka and chicken pizza slice. My co worker ordered penne with broccoli in a garlic and oil sauce. We both enjoyed. My slice was HUGE and definitely filled me up! The waiter was also very nice as well. I also went to La Scala for lunch today with two other co-workers because I happened to be in the area again! We were very pleased with our lunch at La Scala. I ordered rigatoni vodka for lunch. My dish came with minestrone soup as well which was an excellent touch! The soup came out hot and tasted delicious. It may have been the best minestrone I've ever had! As far as the rigatoni vodka, the waiter asked if I would like vodka with meat sauce. Which I thought was interesting. I asked him if he meant pancetta but he meant beef? I thought this was an odd meat to put in a vodka sauce. It didn't taste bad at all! But I felt that I would have enjoyed it more without the beef in the vodka sauce.
