    Blueberry Upside-Down Blueberry Butter Cake
    Stephanie G.

The food, service and ambiance are exceptional at Manninos! The commack location is very modern, always decorated beautifully and has a huge bar on the main level with a second smaller bar upstairs. They are always packed so I recommend making a reservation. But the food is well worth the wait. I always love getting the spicy rigatoni vodka but recently, I tried the Pollo Mannino and it was incredible as expected. The dessert options are also incredible. My personal favorite is the blueberry cake and gelato but most recently when I went they had a special that was a peanut butter crunch cake, and that was to die for as well. One thing that I really love about this location is that the owner Joe is always around. I don't think I've ever been there when he wasn't walking around and he's very hands-on.

Normally I'd wait a few visits before reviewing any new place but Mannino's Italian Kitchen I don't think will be in my rotation. Why? Well the interior restaurant is beautiful, while I was waiting for my wife to arrive, the nice looking front bar area was cool. The menu seemed to be jumping all over the place. The prices are a little over the top, $85 for a stuffed veal chop? $30 for calamari?? I have tickets for a jazz show so I want to eat and bolt. I ordered a cocktail under the $16 cocktail menu, the Old Fashioned Mannino's. Nice starter cocktail for dinner. Here's where it went a little loopy. I ordered the Monkfish special. I love Monkfish but it was served in an egg coating. Really? It's like dipping a porterhouse in chocolate. The fish was good I wouldn't order it again. Would I come back? I would. The place had a nice vibe, the wait staff was attentive and I had a good cocktail. If I'm coming back, its for that veal chop! (No calamari)

It was my daughter's sweet 16 dinner & everything was absolutely perfect! From the food to the staff, 1000000 Stars! Always loved how they decorate for Christmas. It was beautiful!

What a night!! Excellent food..our waiter AMAZING & the decor & seating 10 at a round table PERFECTION!! We started off with delicious grilled pulpo salad, baby artichokes, fried calamari to name a few.The birthday boy had lobster risotto..pure deliciousness & all portions were huge.I had veal dore which was melt in your mouth veal accompanied by 2 francais pieces of shrimp.Another diner had Tuna Orientale perfectly cooked & quite a few had the Frutte de Mar. We usually are in Oakdale but they are renovating & couldn't accommodate our large party. Dessert was a creamy crème brûlée & warm donuts. I had wanted to try the upside down blueberry butter cake but it never came out..no problem we were all deliciously stuffed!! Great night & thank you Mannino's it was a pleasure!!

As you can see the bolognese that was in my chicken rigatoni Ala vodka. Yuk

I have come here a few times. It's not great but it's not bad either. Last time I came here I got the seafood tower which was super fresh and tasty. Rigatoni Ala vodka with grilled chicken. They put meat sauce in my Ala vodka. If you make a mistake at least correct it don't just serve it anyways. I thought it tasted funny but I had a little to eat there and took the rest home. Next day heating it up I noticed all the bolognese they put in it. Grossed me out. Paid over 30 bucks for that too. Won't be going back there for at least a long while. Ambiance is nice my dinner not so much.

What can I say? Best Italian restaurant hands down. A beautiful venue without being pompous. The waitstaff is not only personable but hilarious! I went with my staple the chicken mannino BUT sunday sauce is back through March! The chocolate cake, forget about it, it's a sin! So decadent with multilayers and a crunch. Between Mary and Gianna my favorite bartenders, the absolutely delicious food, and the ambiance... I don't think they could get rid of me if they tried! Great for dates, groups, and private parties.

We came here for a mother's day lunch. I must say the pasta was absolutely delicious and the portion was huge! The service was a little slow and we were not given a drink menu until we asked for one. But I'm hoping that was just because it was a busy holiday.

The bi-level bar and lounge was dark, swanky, and seductive. It would make an excellent spot for dates or groups of friends, like mine. We started off sitting at the bar, as there were no large tables available upon our arrival. However, after about 15 minutes, the host approached to tell us that he could actually seat us. I picked up my glass, which was wet with condensation, and it slipped out of my hands. I was able to collect it with only a minor spill, but the host insisted that the bar staff make me a new cocktail in case the glass had chipped at all. It was a considerate gesture that I greatly appreciated. Plus, since I had already taken a few sips, I was thrilled to get those back in a new glass! In terms of my cocktail of choice, I had opted for the Hot Tijuana Tease, a fiery blend of mezcal, blanco tequila, chile poblano liqueur, and lime juice. So, it was essentially a spicy margarita, and it was excellent. There were clean, crisp notes of peppery heat balanced with layers of robust smoke. My only complaint about the lounge was that the bathrooms were beyond tiny. There were two unisex stalls in a very tight alcove that also included a cramped sink counter. It was awkward and uncomfortable to share that space with another patron. Aside from that, the Hide Rooftop was a beautiful place with a friendly staff and interesting drinks.

The place itself is very nice and has a cool feel to it. It goes really far back and has two bars, with a little stage in the middle for local musicians and performers. In terms of the drinks they serve, they have a lot of good canned craft beer options (not sure what's on tap), that are served in a nice chilled glass. Their cocktails are very creative and taste delicious. My friends got an East meets West (Mezcal, mango puree, fresh lemon, basil simple syrup with tajin chili salt rim & basil leaf) and a Main Squeeze (Blood orange vodka, passion fruit nectar, aperol, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, thyme simple syrup topped with citrus foam & dried rose petals). The east meets west was really good, and the basil really complemented the mezcal in an unexpected way. The main squeeze was also really delicious and tasted like candy, except for a perplexing smokey aftertaste that we couldn't quite figure out. Overall though some very creative and potent cocktails that we definitely want to come back and try more of! My only issue was with how slow the service at the bar in the front was. I feel like those two cocktails shouldn't have taken 15 minutes to prepare (not an exaggeration). Maybe this is an issue with understaffing?

Alibi is currently running a Harry Potter pop up, and if you know anything about me, you will know I am a HUGE fan. The Alibi was decorated beautifully and there were two really cute Photo Ops by "Platform 9 3/4" and the Wand Shop. Come here for the drinks! The Hufflepuff was bourbon forward and reminded me of an Old Fashioned which further confirmed that is truly my house. It also came with an edible golden snitch. The server pointed it out before I gave them what I thought to be decor. I popped the chocolate golden snitch in my mouth after being directed to take the wrapping off first. We then did butterbeer shots and I can't even begin to tell you how delish they were...dangerously delicious. Food was had and it wasn't anything to write about but I'll try. Queso dip is made in house, which I respect. Loaded potato wontons were a great idea and were probably the best things on the table. You can't go wrong with pretzel nuggets. Chocolate cake is never a bad idea. I ended my visit with a chocolate frog drink. Very similar to an espresso martini. You know how hot they are right now. It came with a an actual chocolate frog which was nice. Finally one of the staff members came over to help us play Bertie Botts and we all picked a jellybean. I got lemon. Some of us got soap and warwax. So fun! It was so good, we are going to try to snag another rez for trivia. Reservations are for 90 minute seatings. You pay $15 for a ticket but you get a souvenir cup with your ticket. Not mad about this because the cup is actually decent and will be used. Their next pop up will be "Slime Time". Slime is not my thing but maybe you'll see me at the other pop ups.

The only negative about the ambiance was that it was quite loud. The high ceilings didn't do much to absorb sound, so it was hard to hear my companion unless we leaned forward and spoke pretty loudly. The booth was very comfortable, the table spotless, and even the menu was clean (a small pet peeve of mine). The tap water came in a beautiful glass with a straw, although the water itself tasted a bit chemical-like. They have a lunch menu with very reasonable prices. We ordered a sushi-sashimi combo and stir-fried soba with vegetables. The lunch menu is limited, so they also gave us the regular menu. Oddly, only 1 regular menu was provided for 2 people, so we had to keep passing it back and forth. It's an easy fix that would make browsing much easier. We ended up ordering an appetizer and a signature roll from the regular menu too. The lunch specials came with salad or soup. We chose the salad, which was mostly romaine with a typical Japanese dressing. The portion was larger than expected for a side salad, and the lettuce was fresh and crunchy. Our appetizer was the Lobster Tapas: "Spicy lobster & shrimp wrapped with seared pepper tuna." This was delicious. There were 5 little towers with very fresh ingredients and 2 excellent sauces--a chunky green sauce and a sweeter orange sauce. The tuna was flavorful and very tender. At this point we were already planning to come back with the rest of the family. Next came the sushi-sashimi combo. There were 9 pieces of sashimi beautifully presented on ice, plus 3 pieces of sushi and a spicy tuna roll. The sashimi was very fresh, tender, and flavorful, especially the tuna. Unfortunately, the spicy tuna roll was the weak point. It tasted dry, lacked flavor, and seemed to contain far more crunchy fillers than tuna. It reminded me of a meatball with too much breadcrumb and not enough meat. I'd rather have a smaller roll with better-quality fish than a larger one padded with fillers. The spicy tropical roll was also disappointing. It too seemed to contain more fillers than fish, and the sauce was a little too sweet. It didn't taste fish-forward enough for a "signature" roll. The flavors leaned more fusion than authentic Japanese. If ingredient cost is the issue, I'd gladly pay a few dollars more for a better fish-to-filler ratio. The stir-fried soba with "vegetables" was also disappointing. The noodles didn't taste like Japanese buckwheat soba, and the both the taste + presentation reminded me of instant ramen. The flavor was decent but nothing memorable, and there were only a few pieces of zucchini--nowhere near enough vegetables to justify the name of the dish. The service was good overall. Our server was very sweet and friendly but definitely could use more training. While we were both trying to read the single menu, she interrupted to take our order instead of asking if we needed another minute--or even better, bringing us a second menu. Not a huge issue, but not especially pro or polished. As we were finishing, we ordered a couple of takeout items for a family member. The server kindly offered to package our leftovers with the takeout, which was appreciated. However, when the bill arrived, 1 of the takeout dishes was missing. It took a while to get her attention, and when we did, she reprinted the check without explaining how much longer the forgotten item would take. She did swing back to say she'd ask the chef to expedite, but we still waited quite a while, making us late for a meeting. As for the takeout, the Valentine Roll was just ok, similar to the signature roll we had at lunch. We also ordered a tuna roll, yellowtail roll, and sweet potato roll. None were bad, but they lacked the flavor we expected. Whether it was the rice or the ingredients, they just didn't stand out. Overall, it was a nice lunch. The beautiful restaurant, fresh sashimi, generous salad, and excellent appetizer showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately, too many of the rolls relied on fillers instead of fish, the soba missed the mark, and there were a few service missteps. They're very close--just a handful of small, doable improvements could elevate the experience from okay to outstanding. I hope they do.
