Chip's and salsa were great. I was impressed with the quality of the salsa. The chipotle wings were a little underwhelming. Nice and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, but I don't feel like the wings had much flavor at all. They made my lips tingle a little after but nothing on the tongue to speak of. Maybe because it was lunch size?? My large bowl of tortillas soup tasted like it was made of water not broth. My husband tasted it and he said it was extremely bland We had eaten 3 tablespoons of broth out of a large bowl of soup, so I asked to take it home and somehow they fit a large bowl of soup that we didn't even eat into a small container I'm fixing the leftover soup now with tomato chicken bullion, onion, dried peppers and tomatoes which I will purée and add to their soup. Ambience felt authentic. Food was amazing! I ordered the Shrimp Poblano and my husband ordered an enchilada dish. We had the scallop appetizers too. We were regulars of Casa Romero in Backbay but it's not as easy to find a seat and parking there anymore as it used to be. So glad we found this because it was so easy to find parking in Winthrop, the food was great, the service was top notch. We were so glad to find a Mexican restaurant that we could walk to and with that we visit them once a week. Let me start with the staff as they are some of the best! They have many great food choices to choose from here. I myself have the same thing every time we go as I don't stray far from what I enjoy. My wife has tried many different dishes here and has enjoyed all of them. Another great thing is that we have never had to wait to get a seat, they always have one available. We will continue to eat here until we are no longer in the area. read more

What a great first impression upon walking in! First Mexican restaurant I've ever been to where someone is singing and playing guitar! It was enjoyable, yet not overpoweringly loud. The waitress was sooooo sweet and attentive. For starters, the margaritas are huge and very strong (as they should be at an authentic Mexican restaurant) !! Highly recommend. I finally decided on the chicken fajitas. Chicken was well done to a crisp, and the veggies underneath tasted right off the grill. Only comes with 3 tortillas which is not enough, but just ask for more. A little skimpy on the guac and pico de gallo, you only get a little dollop and I usually like loading mine up. The food is just okay. A couple of appetizers are good. Margaritas are practically manufactured. The Coconut Shrimp is good. It isn't on the menu but is always verbally announced as a special. The owner is a very odd and, in my view, a very biased person based on protected class hostility (observed over a long time.) of his choice. If we want a much higher rated and superior Mexican food experience nearby you must try Angela's Cafe which has two locations in East Boston, very nearby. For many in Metro Boston, this is the only good source of Mexican food. The Chicken Mole is superior, and the rest of the menu is fabulous, and all can be served with mole. Another favorite is the Carne Asada. Just about a mile from La Siesta across from the Orient Heights subway. The Eagle Hill restaurant is about 3 miles. I love that they have specific vegetarian options here and that pickup is easy. I ordered veggie enchiladas which were fairly good, but not outstanding. The rice was pretty bland and the enchiladas weren't very saucy. Ordered takeout from here on a Sunday night after seeing that they were one of the few places in town that was open. There was a decent size crowd at the bar inside, but it seemed like most people had the same idea to order for pick-up. We ordered online and the food was ready for pick-up within 30 minutes. When we arrived the staff was prompt to bring it out, all pluses! As for the food, we had a large group, so we ordered the tilapia Veracruz, enchiladas mole poblano, enchiladas verdes, enchiladas rancheras, the new spicy chile Colorado burrito, the ranchero burrito with steak, and the apple burrito. The tilapia was not a favorite of the person who ordered it as the mushrooms didn't feel fresh and we were all kind of questioning the black olives with it. The enchiladas seemed to be the way to go, as I heard no complaints from anyone who ordered them. The mole was one of the best I've had, as it didn't overpower the dish and added a nice sweet contrast to the salty of the cheese. The rice was also pretty stand out, but only came with the enchiladas, as did beans. I don't know why, but I kind of thought that the burritos would have had something accompanying them as well, but they just come by themselves. I'm sad to say that the *New* spicy chile Colorado burrito was probably the worst thing that we got, unfortunately, that was my order. I ordered the sauce on the side because we were doing pick-up and I didn't want the burrito to be soggy. Unfortunately, it was soggy either way from what seemed like oil. It almost felt like more of a chimichanga than a burrito, and was very difficult to eat. Again, this was without the sauce inside; I can't imagine how it would have stayed together if the sauce was inside. The sauce itself was very tasty and had a nice kick, but the burrito itself I would say is a pass. For dessert we all shared the apple burrito. It came with two little ones and the ice cream was packaged separately. Thank you for that! Most people seemed to like it as the apples were soft but not mushy. In all honesty it is a fancier, better quality version of the McDonald's apple pies, so if you like those, I say order this. Overall, friendly staff and pretty quick service. Most of the food was pretty good, but as I said before, I would probably stick with the enchiladas as they were the favorites of the group. read more

What can I say, this is my favorite restaurant to go to. The homemade salsa is some of the best I've had. I always order the ranchero burrito with shredded chicken and it is always filling and delicious. I've tried other choices from the menu as well and have never been disappointed. I had a great time. We came in without a reservation and were seated shortly on the back deck. There was a group of us celebrating a friends birthday and we all ordered drinks and dinners. I decided to go to Nice little Mexican joint downtown Winthrop MA. To grab a margarita and s quick bite. As usual the margarita was great as you can choose your own tequila. I got the house margarita with salt and upgraded my tequila awesome drink. I decided to try the ceviche. They offer shrimp ceviche. When it arrived at the bar it was very pleasing to the eye and a decent size a little different than I'm accustomed to. The taste was a little bit on the bland side, being in downtown Winthrop pretty much expected that. I did however receive a shrimp and every spoonful between us. Tested the shrimps on the other hand could have been that I selected. The salsa however at this location is fantastic I asked for seconds the chips I average. Parking is usually easy I've been here three or four times and always got a spot out front. My bartender is always fantastic very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks also he's familiar with all the types of tequila. And the conversation was pretty good too. For a small town Mexican restaurant I could never expected anymore. In the selection of tequilas is excellent they must have 10 or 15 different types very impressive for a local joint. The restaurant is kept clean and is very well decorated. That the court is Mexican tiles paint etc. very nice. read more

I made a special trip through Eastie to come here. I am not sure if I would a come again, unless I was in the area . This place is small!! Only about six tables. I only wanted a pork burrito, which is my Mexican standby. I go that and some chips and guac which was very creamy and rich. A little chunky too which I like. A family owned business and they guy whom I thought was the owner was nice and pleasant. The pork had good flavor, similar to Tacos Lupita. Burrito size was huge. I managed to stuff fit all down and waddle out. Cute place. Again, its way out in Winthrop, but it your in the area, its worth checking out. Yet again, Groupon has uncovered a surprising gem in the form of La Siesta. Venturing to Winthrop under threat of impending storm, we made our way to Winthrop Center and were momentarily met with great disappointment. From the outside, it didn't look like the restaurant was open. We approached the front door with apprehension, as the posted hours did not include lunch, but were quickly greeted by two friendly staff members. The second staffer, who turned out to be our waitress, seated us in an almost-deserted dining room with all of the attendant Mexican styling, including abundant applications of brightly-colored tile. After delivering chips and salsa, the waitress departed to provide us time to review the modest, though not overwhelming, menu. In the intervening moments, Jeremy K and I both selected the same entree, Enchiladas Mole Poblano, and opted for the guacamole-dip appetizer as well. We eagerly set into the chips and salsa as well, both noting the later's superb flavor. The guacamole dip, which arrived just as we finished the complementary starter, was served in an iceberg-lettuce-lined tortilla bowl surrounded by the precise number of tortilla chips needed to finish the dip. The dip was extremely satisfying, the onion, tomato, and cilantro blending well with the avocado. In mere minutes, we devoured all of the dip and chips, leaving behind the tortilla bowl in hope of saving some room for the enchiladas. Following a brief interlude that allowed for a bit of digestion, our generously-sized enchilada entrees arrived. Served with sides of rice and refried beans, the pair of enchiladas were drenched in an excellent mole sauce and a touch of melted cheese. The flavors comprising this dish melded perfectly and made for an extremely satisfying meal, one that I devoured with the same excitement I'd attacked the guacamole dip with. Throughout the first visit, our waitress returned with appropriate frequency, never intruding but providing the reassuring sense that service is a high priority at La Siesta. We easily redeemed our Groupon and were on our way, the staff's genuine gratefulness for our visit following us out the door. Just over a week later, we returned to redeem a second Groupon. We were greeted by the same friendly staff, the consistency a positive sign. We opted for the queso fundido appetizer this time, and while tasty and satisfying, I preferred the guacamole dip; perhaps it was the heaviness of this dish that made it an inappropriate midday snack. That said, the queso fundido is excellent in its own right. For my main course, I selected the Chicken Poblano, which featured grilled chicken, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes in a poblano cream sauce. Again, the flavors were excellent, the poblanos providing an appropriate amount of heat for this dish. The rich cream sauce was superbly flavored, making this dish extremely satisfying. The generous portion, this time too much to finish after the chips, salsa, and queso appetizer, made for an excellent snack later that evening. As was the case during our first visit, the staff was equally as friendly and attentive the second time around. All in all, La Siesta is an exceptional restaurant nestled in Winthrop Center, one to which I would return regularly if only it were closer to home. read more
