Guy Fieri may have put Angela's Cafe on the map over a decade ago but since that time they've put in the work to become a beloved Eastie institution. As someone who eats out a little too frequently, Angela's is where I find myself most often. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, with family and/or friends or flying solo, Angela's always delivers and after every meal there, I'm already planning my next visit. Snagging a table for breakfast can sometimes be cutthroat, especially on the weekend, but it's absolutely worth the wait. Adela, Roxana, and the entire breakfast crew are always a delight. Whether you choose traditional Mexican or American, you're in for an outstanding meal. I can't recommend enough the deluxe rancheros with chorizo (and green sauce!). For something sweet, you can't go wrong with their pancakes and French toast. On the caffeine front, their coffee is always hot and never-ending, and sometimes I can't resist also having one of their tasty espresso martinis. For dinner, you'll typically find me at the bar which is usually manned by the lovely Marcella. My go-to meal is the poblano and chorizo burrito and a passion fruit margarita. Oh, and their homemade tortilla chips and green and red sauces, which are my hands down favorites out of any restaurant. I've ordered this combo so often I don't have to say a word as I saddle up to the bar. Aside from my combo, I love their guacamole, tacos, tamales, and enchiladas, but as with breakfast, you really can't go wrong with anything they offer. Angela's Cafe excels at what I consider the trifecta of dining out: mouthwatering food and cocktails, fast and friendly service, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. Props to owner Joel for maintaining this high standard all these years and frequently being on the premises to greet patrons. Angela's was recommended to me and I was told I had to try the mole. The restaurant is large, nicely decorated with friendly service. I ordered the mole with chicken breast and it was delicious. I finished every drop of the sauce. It had a depth of flavor and was savory, spicy and a little sweet all at the same time. It was served with a generous amount of chicken, rice, black beans and fresh handmade corn tortillas. Had there been some veggies or a fresh salad, it would have been perfect. I tried this place because I heard great things about the other location but this one is closer to me. The thing that stood out to me was the service. I haven't seen such accommodating, happy, kind etc wait staff in forever. It was really a pleasant surprise. The food was great too and prices were very reasonable especially compared to the portion size. Wow! Some of the best Mexican food I have had in a long time, and I wish there was a location closer to my house. We were there for lunch on a weekday so no reservation needed, and it was a very comfortable space. I recommend starting with an appetizer that's shared for two people. I cannot recall the name of the dish, but they have a few sizes available for sharing on their menu (not shown on the website for some reason). It's a great way to taste various dishes/ sauces before ordering your meal, and if you are still unsure the servers are super helpful. The food with limited for vegetarian people, but I got the mole and verde enchiladas with vegetables, and they were quite tasty. The enchiladas were filled with spinach, tomato, onion, and mushrooms. The sauces were flavorful awe were also provided with some delicious (although not very spicy) hot sauces. Our food came out very quick and the severs were attentive. I'm in a handful of local foodie groups on Facebook (surprise, surprise). Someone had asked about where in the area to find great, authentic, Mexican cuisine. Angela's came highly recommended, and I was recently able to try it out. I have to admit, I am wrestling with this one. It is my opinion the food is as authentic as it gets. Thus, it is hard for me to criticize as this is not Americanized, nor is it something I grew up eating. I will proceed with caution, and try to remain as fair and balanced as I can. I had the opportunity to try: - Adobo Poblano: The chicken was very tender, and the portion was huge. Though, the dish does not lie in the chicken, it lies in the sauce (pun not intended, but it works, so I'll take it!) This sauce is at the base of my quandary. As I understand, it is made from two kinds of [mild] chile, accented by garlic, oregano, and bay leaves. It had solid flavors, and was not overdone or overpowering by any means. The notes from the sauce were subtle, but lacking "oomph" for my taste. It felt somewhere between bland and flavorful - enough to elevate the chicken a little, but it still felt like something was missing, not necessarily heat. - Guacamole: This was excellent. I did not feel there was anything I would have done differently if I were making it myself. The texture, proportions/balance, salt, and acid levels were all 100% on point. - House Margarita: I will give Angela's points for making it boozy. However, the marg didn't work for me as it tasted a little harsh. I learned from a bartending YouTube channel that different kinds of tequila in an overall recipe can make a margarita go from amazing to awful. Thus, perhaps just a spirit choice led to some kind of conflict in the glass. - Chips & salsa: These are some of the best homemade chips I've had in a Mexican restaurant anywhere. They were cooked to perfection, with just the right consistency, and just enough oil still remaining. While not salted, the oil helped salt from the shaker stick. I enjoyed the sauces for dipping as well. They were distinct and interesting. However, the ramekins they were served in, combined with a more watery consistency made dipping a large chip next to impossible. Now, since I was (and still am) willing to give Angela's the benefit of the doubt, I would have awarded four stars. However, the service left much to be desired as I found it very inattentive. There was a longer than normal wait for our orders to be taken, and then for someone to come by when we were done eating. When we'd requested the check and some bags for the to-go containers, we found our request immediately forgotten and had to flag down a server and remind him we were waiting. If the restaurant was at capacity with one waiter, I would have been more understanding. Yet, this didn't seem to be the case, and is the reason for a lost star. Thus, where it comes to the food, the experience wasn't mind-blowing. However, I think that's kind of the point - the dishes are meant to be authentic and homestyle. I do not believe this is a place where the chef hopes the Michelin guide would award them some stars. The service definitely needs some refining, as it threw a significant wrench in what would have otherwise been a four-star experience. read more

This restaurant was located in the corner of my airb&b and I kept seeing it so full of people so I decided to give it a try for brunch. We did have to wait a bit since we were a party of 6 and had luggage. They were super accommodating and allowed us to put our luggage by the hostess area. I ordered their huevos poblanos which came with refried beans, scrambled eggs with cactus and ham, avocado, homemade potatoes and side of tortillas. It came with a chipotle sauce that I asked for on the side and it was delicious. The eggs with the cactus gave it a distinct but very tasty flavor and all the other flavors on the plate meshed well. The iced coffee was strong just how I like it. The only thing I wouldn't recommend ordering is their French toast since it is basically just white bread dipped in egg batter; they do not use any special bread to make the French toast fluffier. Their prices are very affordable, they have an outside seating area as well and everyone is very friendly. If you are in Boston and are in the mood for some Mexican breakfast, lunch or dinner, you should give this restaurant a try. read more

I love Angela's! The staff is so friendly. They speak English and Spanish- for the non Spanish speakers who might be intimidated about visiting & thinking you have to know Spanish. Drinks are delicious! Never had a bad drink! Often the owner is around assuring everything is well and people are taken care of. I love the ambiance. Any holiday that comes around, they decorate accordingly. Usually a line on weekends for breakfast/brunch. I told my boyfriend, I sometimes miss working in the food industry; and if I were to go back, I'd work for a place like Angela's because I've seen how well the owner takes care of his staff & interacts with his customers. I first came to this restaurant in the evening in search if a good margarita (if you look at my reviews you know I love margaritas!). The margarita was strong but didn't have flavor. I also ordered guacamole from my table and it was lack salt, lime and flavor. My friend ordered a passionfruit margarita and she said the same thing it was strong but had no flavor. Fast forward to the morning! I had the centro American breakfast that was delicious. The beans was perfection and the scrambled eggs was on point. They also served FRESH orange juice. The price was also very reasonable. If my flight back to NY wasn't so early I would eat there again. I took off one star because of the flavorless guacamole and margarita. There was a long wait so definitely get here early to get yourself on the waiting list. We started off the meal with mango and strawberry margaritas. The mango one used real pulp mango juice which I enjoyed but my boyfriend preferred margaritas at other establishments. But let me tell you: these Pancakes were the best I've ever had in my life!!! (So good I have to capitalize the P in Pancakes - just out of respect for the Pancake Chef and Pancakes themselves). I wish there was an Angela's closer to where I live just for the pancakes. I ordered the dulce de le - a bit hesitant since I was nervous it would taste more like a dessert. The huevos rancheros were tasty but not generous in portion size. This was the place to be on a Sunday morning for brunch. There was quite the wait and we were able to snag a table after 30min or so. The service was pretty disappointing and it was clear that they were understaffed. The food took over 30min to come to the table and we never had our waters refilled through our entire meal. They were out of orange juice as well, which seemed strange. The food was above average and there are many things I'd like to try on their menu. My Eggs Florentine was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the potatoes but I did think the portion size was small. It doesn't get better than this! We arrived at a busy time but we didn't have to wait long. The wait staff set up a new table just for us. The majority of the customers were speaking Spanish as the owners are originally from Mexico City, but English was also fine. My cafe con leche was great and we shared a small guacamole that was freshly made and mild with freshly toasted homemade tortilla chips. I ordered the chilaquiles with a combination of red and green sauce (because I couldn't decide). It was great! The green sauce is nicely mild and sour as you would expect from a tomatillo based sauce and the red sauce was spicy and flavorful but too so spicy that it overpowered the subtler flavors of the fresh corn tortillas. Fresh crumbled queso fresco was sprinkled over the top with sliced avocado. Unfortunately I was so hungry that I dug in before taking a photo. ;-) My daughter had a vegetarian breakfast burrito with a side of home style potato hash browns. Her tortilla was moist and fresh and she was happy with it. Despite being busy and packed with a wait line, the wait staff was kind, prompt and attentive. All the wait staff took care of everyone, we were frequently checked on and it was appreciated. There's a bar seating area, which is perfect for one or two people together, great art on the wall, tables that they will move around to accommodate larger groups, and it was decorated for the holidays while we were there. Photos from key locations in Mexico City decorate the entrance. Confirmed with the owner that they make their own fresh tortillas every day. When I see excellent five star reviews (or even four stars) from solid Yelpers- with a lot of information in the review I appreciate it. I knew when I got here things would be fantastic and they were. You don't need my review but I will say I agree with the comments about how fresh everything is. Guacamole is truly one of the best I've had. And the sauces and the chips that accompany the guac are above any regular restaurant. I had the Sopa Azteca and the ceviche tostada and my husband had a typical burrito. I did not take a picture of the burrito because well, it's a damn burrito. But when he cut it open it was amazing and I wish I'd taken a picture of it it was very good. Don't forget the salty spicy rimmed margarita. read more

I've been here a few times for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is very good and fresh. They have a mix of typical American breakfast fare as well as latin American. I recently had their pollo mole. The sauce was addictive. The chicken was just meh, but you probably don't want overly seasoned chicken with a beautiful sauce like mole. read more
