Ive been on a mission to find pockets of joy all around my neighborhood and I think I may have found the best one yet. La Snackeria is a cute little outpost deep in Sunset Park on 5th Ave. As soon as you walk in the cute pink aesthetic and inviting menu draws you in. They are known for both desserts and savory treats but I particularly came here for the empanadas. Upon the cashier's suggestion I ordered the cheese empanada and the birria + cheese empanada. Service was fast and they weren't fussy about me just chilling there and eating in. The cheese empanadas was very good, although I do wish there was more cheese in it. The birria and cheese empanada is one of the juiciest, best things Ive eaten in a while. It was oozing with beefy goodness and paired with gooey cheese, dunked in the spicy and tart green salsa that they give on the side - HEAVEN in a mouth full. I've only had this restaurant once, but this will be my go-to for a post work taco order. I found this place while doing my side hustle. I glanced at the menu and was wowed by the options. I knew I would be back and I'm glad I gave them a shot. So far, I've gotten the birria, the shrimp, and the fried fish tacos. I asked for the cashier's opinions and I'm very glad I listened. I don't truly understand why finding fried fish tacos in NYC is so hard, but this place has fried fish with lots of flavor. The birria is pretty decent too. I love this little hole in the wall spot! It's a great addition to sunset park with a different twist to mexican cuisine. I orders some macho nachos and chicken quesataco for a delivery and it was still warm and delish when it arrived. I requested everything on the nachos to be on side because I didn't want soggy nachos by the time it arrived like I have experienced with other places. But honestly I don't think that would've been the case here, they add some cheese wiz to the nachos and regular cheese and omg soooooo good! The snacks are an interesting and unique take on a lot of the delicious food already in Sunset Park. They have put their own spin on more traditional fare and it's really appealing - there's things like elote with Takis dust and fruity pebble donuts with fruity pebble ice cream...Then there's the old and reliable: tacos (which were delicious) and mangoes with chili. They are new, so I think they'll sort out some of the kinks. Mangoes could stand to be more ripe and service could be more personable. The space is small so I waited outside while waiting for several customers to leave. Then when I got inside nobody really attended to me, it was a bit confusing where to order I had to initiate the conversation of where to order. I ordered the pepino loco which was cucumber, apples, mango, chamoy, tajin, salsaghetti candy, and tamarindo. My pepino was very good, next time I'll probably add some more candies. They added a good amount of chamoy and tajin! They had a wide variety of candies, and ice cream flavors. I thought it's also cool that they have churros! Saw a couple of my friends post about this place so I decided to come try it. I definitely over ordered. their tostada and tacos taste the same so if you were getting shrimp tostada don't get shrimp tacos it's literally same thing minus beans. Got here early and we were the first one seated, I was really excited about this place. Their hot Cheetos corn was interesting, in a good way. I would skip the nachos corn one cause thst one was mediocre. Minus one star cause I ordered 1 fish taco and they brought out two, I told the waitress we only ordered one she went to ask the kitchen who said we ordered two... so she decides to take both tacos away, we figured okau maybe she will bring one back after she figures it out... 15 minute later we ask about the fish taco she said both our taco is in the front waiting for us and I again told her we only ordered one, she's like no they are both yours I repeated your order back to you... then she goes and check her notes in front of us and was like oh you're right you only ordered one... then she goes and gets the two tacos that's been sitting there 15-20 minutes by now brings it into the kitchen and said they're gonna take one away... few minutes later she brings one fish taco back.
