Exquisite tacos. I was hesitant for a while to come here since it's a white neighborhood and they seem to think they're experts on Mexican food just cause they visited Mexico once. But this place was actually pretty good. I got three asada tacos since the my don't have original goat birria. The meat was tender, juicy and very tasty. Friendly staff and very good tacos on handmade tortillas. I've eaten so many tacos I dont know what to say about them but these are really good if you're nearby. Really solid. I had a nopal asado burrito, which came in a flour tortilla with rice, beans, grilled cactus, and some veggies. It was plenty flavorful, especially with the spicy green salsa on the side. For about $20, it made for a pretty filling meal. I'm not a fan of fried fish with tacos. I decided to give it a go and was reminded of why I don't like it. It's to greasy. I like grilled fish on my tacos. The tortillas were a little thinner than what I'm used to. I didn't know a tortilla could be that thin. I did have to wait longer than I expected. Someone with a higher number got served before me. I always get the tacos with everything on them as they always add the freshest sauces and toppings. For burritos, I love al pastor which has the perfect balance of sweetness from the pineapple. A solid taco place if you're ever in the mood for some traditional Mexican tacos and drinks. So far I've gotten the tacos al pastor and the birria and both have been excellent. They also carry grilled cactus tacos and mushroom tacos for the vegetarians. Of course they carry the Mexican cokes which I am a huge fan of. I'm also a huge fan of their Michelada's and margaritas. A mixed review of a taqueria of I ever had one to date. The al pastor tacos are really the ticket here, as the name implies. Tasty meat, good pineapple flavor, and you certainly plenty of both. To put it up against their birria tacos I was something I had to try. Unfortunately, this is where it lacks. The taco is nicely filled but the birria meat is bone dry. There is no juicy meat and it has no cheese in it, making it quite unappetizing. It is unfortunate because the price is good, three of these for $10. Sadly the birria taco is not good as the al pastor. I thought about going up to the counter and getting another taco like the pollo or carne asada tacos, but I stopped just short, thinking, if the birria taco is dry, what does that say about their other tacos? Taqueria al Pastor is a new-ish addition to Cobble Hill. The layout reminds me a lot of Los Tacos #1 with a similar ordering and dining concept. The service was really friendly and it seemed like everyone enjoyed working here. All the food is made fresh and it took about 10min for the food to be ready. I was hungry and almost ordered 3 fish tacos, but I'm happy I only ordered two. They were big! Very generous with the portion size and amount of fish. The fish itself I was a little bit disappointed by, there was a huge amount of breading which is something that I don't like with fried fish tacos. My go to!! Pricey but worth it and everything 20dlls in nyc now. I always get their chicken burrito with guacamole on the side! I do not like their green salsa and always ask for their regular red one. Figured I should write more reviews for nyc places that are my favorite. Also their beans in their burrito taste homemade. I'm Mexican from Texas border so very picky with my food and avoid usually Mexican food in nyc. But when you like a spot it's gold! Simple burrito but spot on. This taqueria opening up a few blocks from my apartment is the best and worst thing to happen to me in a while. On the plus side, it's the real deal. They have actual, authentic, delicious al pastor tacos, with a trompo rotating back there like it should be. In fact, all the tacos are absolutely on point. The fish is fantastic too. On the minus side, I'm going to be plus size. I was trying to do this thing where I didn't eat all the food all the time, but being able to waltz over here for incredible tacos at any time of day is really going to be a problem. Things You Should Know: 1. They serve up their tacos on one tortilla, instead of too. I like this, but it does get a bit messy. I might rock a plato one day just to see how that goes. Or a volcano, or a gringa. Although those might not help me not make a mess. 2. Apparently the 'volcanes' on the menu are like a tostada covered in melted cheese, then topped with the rest of the stuff. The 'gringas' are two tortillas with melted cheese and the stuff. I had to ask. 3. My kid thinks the pollo tacos are too spicy, but she's like three years old and can't even handle black pepper. That said, she did keep going back for more, which speaks to how tasty they are. 4. The sign says Taqueria & Bar, but the bar isn't open yet. Maybe when this whole pandemic thing blows over. 5. I'm going to be in here a lot. I'm probably the guy hunched over in the corner dropping onions and salsa on his pants. Not the homeless one though. I smell marginally better. read more

Gotta first give a shout out to the staff, always super kind and engage the customer so you get exactly what you want. Props to them! I've been here a few times. I've tried the fish, cactus and chicken tacos. Big fan of the fish taco and the cactus one is pretty good as well, gotta a pretty decent kick! I've never been a huge quesadilla person but there's are really good. Comes with great cheese, good veggies and guacamole with your choice of protein. Honestly can't go wrong. The first time I came here which was very soon after they first opened, I stepped out after seeing the taco prices. However on another night, I decided to finally get food here as the place is pretty popular and I went with one their rice plates/plato de arroz as I found this is probably a better deal for dinner as along with the meat, it also comes with either corn tortillas or tortilla chips as well as a variety of other things (beans, cheese, salsa, guacamole.) I believe it was 15.99 or something similar which isn't cheap but then again it is Brooklyn Heights so what are you going to do? As per the namesake, I went with the al pastor. Al Pastor refers to a type of pork grilled very similarly to Middle Eastern shawarma in a mix of Mexican spices with some grilled pineapple and after waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so, the food was ready and the portion size is large. As the other reviewer noted, the al pastor was surprisingly spicy. Usually I find a lot of places tone down the heat and I am glad that there was a ton of flavor here. There was maybe a bit too much cheese below the meat as it got a bit overwhelming but overall it was very tasty. The tortilla chips were fine though I would definitely go with the corn tortillas next time and the guacamole was good. Not the best I have had but still tasty and better than a few of the other places nearby and definitely with fresh avocado. A lot of people here might complain about the prices but this is Brooklyn Heights and I think it was fine at least for the plate. I see comparisons to Chipotle but the latter is much more Tex-Mex and the food quality at that place is much worse by comparison (at least in terms of the meat quality and flavor (but then again I dislike Chipotle.) All ranting about that other worse chain aside, the food here is very tasty. I'm not exactly sure whether it would have been worth it to buy a taco because of the prices but for the plate, I found it to be a good deal especially if you're looking for something spicy, fresh, and tasty. read more

Mexican approved! My mom (who's from Mexico City) and I came here after we walked by and she spotted the trompo and was like we HAVE to go in. Dropped in for a couple of quick tacos Al pastor and they did not disappoint. The meat is tender and tasty, the seasoning is perfect, and they are actually kind of spicy (I don't think they're too crazy but you might want to ask for them not spicy if you can't handle heat, they're definitely above mild/medium. The staff was extremely friendly and all spoke Spanish, which is a good sign. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and nicely designed. Will definitely be returning and bringing friends. Also - someone wrote in a review that the tortillas were soggy, and I feel that's either a lie or they got REALLY unlucky. The tortillas were pretty darn crisp and fresh for ours. Pretty solid and pretty tasty tacos! I read the other reviews and was in the area, so I dropped by. Had to try "the best al pastor taco you can get in NYC" as I've seen it described here. I bought 2 al pastor, 2 steak, some chips & guac, and some jamaica and horchata for myself and my partner. Spent about $35 with tip, so pretty decent for a filling lunch in NYC. The food came out quick and we sat in their outdoor space. Not as nice as their indoor area with all of its colors and music, but we had room to spread out at least. The tacos, unsurprisingly, are their best feature. I have to admit, I am hard-pressed to think of a single other taqueria that makes better Al Pastor tacos. I've tried at least a dozen restaurants, food carts and other joints across 3 boroughs so far (Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn), and yeah this Al Pastor is at least as good as some of the best I've tried elsewhere - if not better. Each one costs about 4-5 bucks and it's huge - it takes careful maneuvering to get a good bite in and not have it crumble to pieces. It's decently spicy too - which I love, but my partner doesn't. So if you're not into spicy food, be sure to tell them - or do like we did; just have the steak of chicken options, which weren't spicy. Their chips and guac were decent, but I've had better at other places so I'm spoiled now and have pretty high expectations. I enjoyed em but wasn't blown away. The cold drinks were tasty and I'd order them again for sure. Particularly on a hot day. If I lived in the area I'd be eating their tacos pretty regularly! read more

Such an odd dining experience. The counter is in the front, you're served in actual plates but have to seat yourself and expected to clean up after yourself at the same time. The bar is glass with blows my mind, who cleans that area? Who knows. The birria tacos are not all that, the tortillas are handmade, you can literally see them making them, doesn't distract from how subpar these are to any truck in queens.
