Found myself craving Mexican (specifically, Birria) one Friday evening after a long work week. Nenes Taqueria hit the spot in every way I wanted. I went on a Friday evening around 9:30pm. It was still fairly busy inside, but it was mostly people grabbing to-go orders. After ordering I snagged a spot at the counter. There's extremely limited seating, so I wouldn't bank on eating at the restaurant when it's busy. Be prepared to take your food to go. I got the Nene's Deluxe, which comes with a taco, a mulita, and an empanada - all with Birria of course. It was all delicious. The mulita was at the bottom of the box and got completely soaked with Birria. It was extremely messy to eat. Get plenty of napkins. I also got a side of fries and nacho cheese, because it was a long week and I deserved it. They had a seasonal strawberry horchata as well. This was okay. I also think I might just not love horchata in general. This meal definitely hit the spot. The Birria and consommé were top notch. I would return in a heartbeat. read more

The empanada was not like the usual closed off empanada, it was like open like a taco but instead of a taco shell, it was like the empanada dough. I didn't try the mulita yet but it was huge. Filling between two tortillas and I saw some guac filling as well. The consome was good! Not too salty - and has general pieces of meat inside the soup. The tacos were good but I felt like it lacked a little depth. I added some of the mango(?) it was a sweetish salsa and that gave it a nice little kick. read more

I've been enjoying Nene's for a few years now, as they're exceedingly close to me and deliver on good birria tacos, consistently. Whenever friends visit my area, I consider this place one of the staples that I'll bring them to. In the summertime, I have even made use out of their limited seating outdoors. Usually, the service is fairly straightforward--you order, get your receipt then move down to the window and wait for your name to be called. Not much pleasantries but they get the job done. However, today I had an experience that left a poor taste in my mouth and honestly will put me off from going back for at least a while. When I went up to order, I asked for "the combo with birria tacos and consome", the cashier confirmed with me if I wanted "just Birria tacos? Or the combo?", I replied, "right, the birria taco combo." I think trying to be overly explicit led to the misunderstanding, because I got my order with only 3 Birria tacos. When I asked about the missing consome, she repeatedly insisted that I said no to the combo. After prolonged back and forth, she asked if I want consome, and when I said yes, she proceeded to ring it up on its own for $4. The thing is, I had already pulled out a dollar to cover it, as it's only a 50 cent difference between the combo and 3 tacos alone. I pointed this out, to which she shoved the consome at me with a look of disgust and told me she didn't want the money. I left the dollar in the tip jar anyway, but I felt uncomfortable from the exchange and also that it held up the delivery drivers and other patrons waiting in line to order. read more

3.5 stars. I order from Nene's in Astoria all the time, so I thought to try this location closer to work. I tried something different than my usual and went with the Adobada Tacos (Pork Al Pastor). The meat itself was spicy and a little rough, which leads me to believe it was maybe old meat. Instead of cubed, the pineapple was shredded which offered a nice touch. Unfortunately the actual taco got soggy by the time I ate it so I just picked out the meats and pineapple. There is plenty of avocado green sauce placed on top, which moving forward, I will request to be on the side to prevent the taco from getting soggy. Overall I probably should just stick to what I know/like so I'm willing to give this location another shot! read more

The chile poblano burrito with mushroom was awesome - enormous, and extra hearty from the chewy cheese stuffed poblano pepper. There are a ton of veggies and beans inside, and the pineapple salsa alongside makes a really great addition. I also tried a nopales mulita, which was also tasty. My God, I have been sleeping on this place for way too long. Best birria and Cali burrito I've had delivered in the neighborhood. Came quickly and tasted great. The burrito was much larger than at Taqueria El Pastor now, and it is 30% cheaper. The birria empanada was phenomenal. It's times like this when I'm glad I started eating chicken after 15 years of pescetarianism. Nenes does have nopales for the vegetarians, but I need real protein, so the chicken taco is what I got here. They're more known for their birria tacos, in fact they have an entire section of their menu dedicated to birria items, but I really don't like that gamey flesh smell that red meat gives off so that's really not for me. Still, I can say Nene's produces a great product. I also got a side of rice and beans, which were made to perfection and full of flavor. There's not much in the way of seating at this location, but if you're okay with standing at some of the high tops they have, this will do. They open until 11pm most nights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, so it's a great spot for a late night bite, especially after a show at the Bell House nearby. read more

On my list for so long and didn't disappoint. Great Mexican food. Awesome tacos. I loved the asada and adobada. We ordered the Birria pizza. That's the thing to get. Stopped in Nenes after a long day of travel from the Midwest to Brooklyn and I was starving. Thankfully, I came in during a not crowded time (2 pm on a Wednesday) and walked in to the delicious smells at the recommendation of a local friend. This place is a cross between a convenience store and restaurant, but with the quality of the food, you'll be blown away. The ambiance is very casual, and seems like a mostly takeout restaurant but they have a few tables to sit at as well as bar seating. You order at the front and then they'll call your name when your food is ready. I ordered 3 tacos: quesabirria, Al pastor, and carne asada, as well as a tamarindo to drink. Everything was delicious and the prices were super reasonable for NYC. The tamarindo was very sweet and just how I like it. The tacos were all fantastic but their famous quesabirria is definitely their best - highly recommend you try. Great local stop to visit if in the area! read more

I've been here a few times with friends. We come here bcus it's only a few blocks away from where we climb at Brooklyn Boulders. It's a good spot bcus they're open late and they have some seating (indoor and outdoors). Food is pretty tasty and decently priced. But if there's a lot of people ordering, the food can sometimes take a while to be ready. So usually if we see that there's not a lot of people, then we'll go in and order. We once had the birria pizza to share amongst 4 people. We each had 2 big slices each. It was yummy and very filling, but the only con was that it was very flimsy and would easily fall apart. My friend and I came here after hearing about the hype. Honestly this place may be overhyped... My friend is originally from California and we were hoping for tacos that could compare to the west coast. By those standards, we left disappointed. The birria tacos were good, but we had better. It also was additional for the consome (the dip). The pork taco was probably the best. The lengua (beef tongue) also was disappointing. There was a good amount of protein in the lengua and pork taco so we left feeling full with 2 tacos. I think the birria taco skimped a bit on the meat (you can see the pics). I came here after an evening of hanging out. My cousin had been here before and said it was good, and since we were both hungry, we decided to stop by. I ordered the nachos, which were huge. They came with mozzarella cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños (I opted for no black beans), and I believe that was about it. They also give you a side of cheese and guacamole. I didn't really like the cheese--it didn't taste like typical nacho cheese and instead reminded me of a cheap, squeeze-style cheese. I also ordered the chicken quesadilla, which my cousin recommended. I did enjoy it and asked for guacamole on the side. I tried a new flavor of Jarritos--Guava--which was really good. My partner and I got the birria tacos combo which was super affordable especially since we got a drink. The service was very good and recommended us to get the combo, very lovely. This was the most delicious tacos I've had, compared to the other places I've gone. The tacos itself had a good crunch and wasn't soggy at all, made on the spot beef. The beef itself was packed full of flavor and had a perfect amount of onion, cilantro and cheese! The cheese itself was very melted that I got a cheese pull. I've been here several times (because it's conveniently located) and the service has never been good. I think this last time did it for me. I ordered the birria nachos for the first time and dined in the restaurant. Every single chip was soggy. I asked the young female cashier if we could get chips as these ones were soggy and she said I'd have to paid $4 for them (this is after paying $30 for nachos, an agua fresca, and a burrito). On top of that the nacho cheese they used was worse than shelf Tostito's cheese. The birria was a bit chewy. The guac here is also off. Found this place on Tik Tok so when I saw we were in the area of it, I knew I had to try it. The food was delicious. I got pork tacos and the Birrea soup on the side. Been thinking about that soup ever since. The service was quick! There's a few seats inside and several tables outside but it was kind of cold so we stood inside. Very disappointing experience at Nene's Taqueria on Graham Street in Brooklyn. The food here is good, which is the only reason my family and I have continued coming back. Unfortunately, the service has steadily gotten worse. Today I placed an order at 3:57 PM (receipt shows this). After waiting about 20 minutes, I asked the employee behind the counter about my order. She checked the screen, realized it hadn't been made, and silently started preparing it--no explanation and no apology. I finally received the food at 4:32 PM, about 35 minutes later. When I got home, the order was still incomplete. The nachos were missing the guacamole, sour cream, and cheese, and both plates I ordered were missing the chips that normally come with them. For a place that charges good money for food, this level of service is extremely frustrating. Advice to anyone ordering here: If you're eating here or ordering takeout, check your bag carefully before leaving and be prepared to show your receipt if something is missing. This place has been on my social media feeds for a while so I finally made the trip out to the restaurant. I didn't have much hope, as I've been disappointed by social media suggestions before. However, I was pleasantly surprised. My partner claims that a true taco establishment must provide a good horchata. I didn't grow up with horchata, so I don't have a strong baseline of what a good one should be like. I'm not sure if I came on an off day, but the consistency was not what I typically expect of a horchata. It was almost like a milkshake consistency, but I didn't hate it. For the price of the horchata, if you like it, it's definitely worth it. They provide great birria tacos that will allow me to skip a trip to Williamsburg or Queens to get the famous birria tacos from another taco truck. I also got an adobada taco and it was delicious as well. I wouldn't necessarily say this place is better than Los Tacos No. 1 or Birria Landia, but if you don't want to make the commute to those places, this place is a great contender. read more

I am a huge fan of their original Bushwick location but it was such a far trek for me. I'm so happy they opened up a second location here in Park Slope. Although the space is smaller than the original, there is more seating. They have all the classics, including tacos, empanadas, and the viral birria pizza and birria ramen. If you are looking to get a taste of what they do, I would recommend the Birria Deluxe ($13.50) which comes with a taco, empanada, and mulita with consommé. Personally, I love their birria empanadas as the crust is so delicious and crispy. The Birria Combo ($12.50) comes with three tacos and a consommé. Don't sleep on their California burritos either-- they are stuffed with fries. Just a warning: the service can be inexplicably slow. They do a lot of online orders so sometimes it does take 20-30 minutes for your order to be ready. read more
