This restaurant is a gem. Best food yet in Italy. And everything was gluten free! Eating here was like eating art - especially the artichoke... absolutely amazing. The noodles were great, it rivaled some of the best Ramen noodles I've ever tasted. Service here was good. The servers were attentive and nice. It feels like an underground secret atmosphere, not too loud, so you can speak easy here. The Salmon was great, and they included squid ink as a side sauce, which was a nice surprise and made the dish memorable, and artistic. The tiramisu here made me realize that every other tiramisu was trying to taste like this one. It was perfection
This was my favorite meal I had in Rome!! It was the best gluten free pizza i had ever had, the sauce was sweet and flavorful and it had the perfect amount of cheese. You could not tell the difference between the regular crust and the gluten-free, they were both light and fluffy with a crisp undercarriage and they clearly mark gf items with a flag.
Last dinner of our trip was at La Soffitta Renovatio. They have several gluten free pasta (1,00€) and pizza (2,00€) options. Busy on a Friday evening (8:00pm). All the tables inside were reserved but no wait for one outside. No coperto charged. - Calice rosso (6,00€) - Carciofo giudia (8,00€) - fried artichoke was tasty. The outer fried layer tasted like fries - Carbonara (13,00€) senza glutine (1,00€) - guanciale was good. Carbonara not too heavy - Fettuccine porcini (18,00€) - homemade fettuccine. Very firm, al dente bite. Reminded me more of noodles than pasta
Wonderful gluten free restaurant in Rome near the Vatican. The staff is friendly and smooth. The food is delicious and the gluten free options are plentiful. I love the gluten free pizza here, it's one of the best places in Rome and definitely worth a try if you are gluten free. The ambiance is quiet and comfortable, it would be a good spot for a date or for a small group of friends. The wine is delicious as well!
We stopped here for lunch during the week around 2pm and were able to dine outside. They have a separate, all-vegan menu that you have to ask for. My wife & I split a couple pizzas, a Capricciosa (artichokes, mushrooms, and vegan salami of some sort) and a Fume vegan (smoked cheese and spek, a type of smoked ham, vegan of course), €13 each. We also got a side salad (€7), pretty lame really, as it was just some leaves, 4 slices of tomato and shredded carrots -- you dress it yourself, as per standard in Italy (and many places in Europe). Both pizzas were quite large and very filling, with the flavours and textures balanced well. Good bases and crusts, on the thicker side. Very friendly and astute service. Didn't feel like too much of a tourist trap despite the proximity to the Vatican. Recommended.
The food is delicious, freshly made pasta. We came here because of the gluten-free options. Family friendly restaurant. The waiter gave my son coloring pages and color pencils he was entertained. They were really sweet to him & even provided him whipped cream with strawberries just because while we waited for our dinner to arrive. Our food was very good we came back again the next night.
The service was amazing,l. We arrived as a group of 10 for lunch with no reservation and they took care of us immediately. Our waiter was friendly, fun, and unflappable dealing with all our allergies. The food was fresh and delicious. Even the gluten free pasta was fresh made in house. What a treat!! Then, they had a section, a whole selection, of gluten free desserts. I had the strawberry cheesecake. They were also extra careful double checking ingredients for cross contamination for my niece who is severely allergic to nuts. Everyone said the "normal@ food was delicious too!! Def eat here. Only a 10 minute walk from the Vatican!
I visited La Soffitta Renovatio for lunch on my recent trip to Rome, before heading to the Vatican nearby. I heard very good things about their gluten-free pizza and pasta so I was excited to try this place out but sadly my expectations were not met. By the quality of my food, I felt like I had been transported from Italy to Stoke On-Trent. Upon arriving at the restaurant, the point where to queue for a table was unclear, Firstly I went inside before being told to go back outside to be "checked in", after explaining to the waiter that I wanted to sit inside, I was then directed to wait somewhere else before being escorted back downstairs to my table a few minutes later - I felt like a Yoyo and would have preferred to just be in one place. It just left me feeling awkward. During my time in Rome, I wanted to try out a Cacio e Pepe, a traditional pasta dish from the Lazio region which includes Rome, my guest opted for a Margherita, we both ordered our food gluten-free, so I could try a bit of both. The pasta was dreadful, it was just so bland and dry, the pasta itself just didn't taste good and even the pepper and the sauce just couldn't save it and make it edible. The pizza was equally as bad, there was a lack of cheese and I originally thought they'd made the wrong order. The toppings again had no flavour, and the base was dry and gritty, I needed water just to stomach it and the dried rice from the flour was just leftover in my hands. Service seemed quick enough but neither attentive nor overly friendly. The chairs inside the restaurant were also incredibly uncomfortable, this is a trend I noticed during my time in Rome, I had to stand up multiple times during my meal just to get out of the discomfort. I'm not sure if they were having an off day or if there's a more glaring problem, as I also noticed the diner next to me being displeased with her pizza, where she was just taking the meat off and left pretty much everything - I noticed the gluten-free flags in this diner's food too - the only thing I liked about this place was the flags for gluten-free, but given how bad the pizza and pasta was, you'd know they were gluten-free on first bite anyway. I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, as unfortunately my excitement was met with regret and fury. 1*
Very hot day out when our group found this place with outdoor seating as well as basement seating with air conditioning. The English was partially in English and the staff seemingly all knew enough English that we had no issue. They take credit card. Everyones's meal was good, except the pizza was 'wet' (oil, maybe some grease as there was a lot of cheese) the ox tail was good, but as expected, very small portions. Great spot for a family lunch or a dinner date. Everything was good and I recommend this place, but there are so many places in the area to try, I likely won't come back.
My Sicilian friend recommended this place. I enjoyed it very much. If you want Italian foods and hospitality it is place to come! They do really Italian foods. Chef will come to greet you and adjust the food based on your preferences! When you order, they provide a perfect guidance with the highest hospitality! They prepared lasagna with beef meat! I do recommend this place with yummy foods! Enjoy!
We stopped here around 11:30 after our tour of the Vatican, very hungry for lunch. The outside area had plants hanging around and was just a super cute vibe, which was part of what we were looking for (along with pizza). We got the primavera pizza and it was good, and definitely plenty for us to share, however we want to get a different kind next time. This was our first Italian pizza so nothing to compare it to, but we feel we could've maybe ordered better. However, service was great and we didn't get stuck sitting for long which was nice!

Best meal/experience we had our entire European trip. We were searching for GF friendly location and everything on menu can be made GF including all desserts. My wife who is GF couldn't believe it and would have eaten here everyday our entire trip if could. Prices were more reasonable then other nearby 'touristy' locations and seemed most diners were locals which is always a good sign. Everything we tried was top quality and the staff was friendly, attentive, and spoke English. My wife wanted to thank the husband/wife owners who manage the restaurant and they were so thankful to be recognized they made us each a special dessert free of charge. The attractions in Rome are certainly some of the best in the world, but when we think about our Rome vacation I think our overall experience in this family run restaurant will come to mind as one of the most enjoyable/memorable our entire trip. I would recommend it to anyone, GF or not, seeking a high quality authentic Italian meal in welcoming (no fuss) environment with highly trained professional staff. None of our other meals at other restaurants even came close. read more

We were starving after spending the day in Vatican City and had trouble finding a restaurant with the kitchen open between lunch and dinner. Thankfully we stumbled upon la Soffitta Renovatio. The service was some of the best we had throughout Europe and the food was so delicious. The tagliata was cooked to perfection and was quite tasty in the balsamic vinegar. As for the carbonara, I could eat it morning, noon, and night. The pasta is so simple yet so amazing. The pancetta is just one ingredient, but it goes a long way in adding the needed depth to the pasta. I looked forward to each crunchy morsel in every bite. I wish I could go back to try the pizza which I heard is quite popular. If you ever find yourself near Vatican City, definitely drop by la Soffitta Renovatio. read more

High expectations for this place after rave reviews on Yelp, but sadly disappointed. Ordered the sliced beef steak. It looked lean upon arrival, but was actually extremely marbled. Some prefer fattier cuts of beef, but there was barely any actual lean meat on it. Maybe got 4-5 bites that were edible, the rest was fat. For €20 I felt a little robbed. My mom ordered the salmon and half came out raw. :( The roasted potatoes were good though! The place itself was really neat in a basement-like setting with very nice waiters, but the food was just subpar. read more
This was our first meal in Rome and my wife wanted Pizza. We found La Soffitta through all of the yelp reviews and want to thank everyone for the information. This was a great place and the food was tremendous..... Started off with Calamari. Calamari was really good (not overdone like most) and the portion was plentiful. We had the Margarita and Bascaiola pizzas for our main. Good sized pizzas that were cooked to perfection. The toppings were very fresh and the dough/crust were soft. Service was good and the waiter was attentive to our needs. This is a little hidden as it is downstairs from street level. read more

So this is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me. The location is convenient, the interior design is nice and pleasant, the food is agreeable and the price is reasonable. 3 stars b/c our server was rushed and unhelpful and because pizza was fine but not memorable. And 4 because the gluten free crust was so good, i double checked that it was glutenfree! and that they have a variety of glutenfree desserts. This is a little cozy place close to the vatican that i would definitely go back to if I'm in Rome and craving pizza (I'm gluten intolerant) - thank god it exists! I don't think it's the most exciting place to get pizza /dinner in Rome if u don't have food allergies though. read more
Lovely place! We googled places to eat close to where we were staying! This place came up and did NOT disappoint! Firstly, you take stairs down to get here from their main door, and it's very spacious! Love the ambiance - candle lit, dim lighting, and lovely paintings! The menu here is really extensive, and they have a full page of specials that are handwritten - another sign of a family-owned (although large) Italian business! Our waiter was kind and explained everything on the menu in detail The food -- I don't think I'll ever feel the same way about margherita pizza I have at home in the US again! So so fantastic and the tomato sauce was unbelievable. Cacio e Pepe was fantastic as well!! Also, the fried pizza is super excellent. It's really fried dough that makes the crust and is topped with marinara and oregano! For dessert, they had multiple options and gelato. We tried the canoli and the tiramisu both of which were excellent. I did enjoy the tiramisu more! Price were soooo reasonable! Definitely recommend! read more

After visiting the Vatican we stopped here for lunch. It is in the basement of the building. It is well air conditioned. We were seated right away. A lot of us are Cesar salads and our daughter had the gluten free pasta. A great place in Rome for gluten free. They are Celiac approved. Place filled up with your groups as we were finishing up. read more

One of my favorite places in Rome. I went probably over five times in six months. They have a full vegan menu which is one of the most impressive I have seen in Italy. Make sure to ask for Washim, he is a great waiter. He also was Charli, Dixie, and lol huddys waiter as well read more

This place knows how to do pizza! I ordered the gluten free Diavola pizza, which had tomatoes, mozza, and sausage on it. It cost 10 euro, then only 1 euro more to make it "senza glutine". So worth it! Unlike other establishments that charge quite a premium for gluten free options, or don't offer them at all, La Soffita Renovatio offers all its pizzas and pastas as both gluten free and regular. The food came out quickly and I scarfed down that pizza so quickly - it was mouthwateringly good. My boyfriend ordered a regular pizza and raved about its quality too, so we can attest that this place is one of the best in the Prati neighbourhood for all pizza! Definitely worth checking out as it is very close to the Vatican. We ate dinner at 6:30pm and it wasn't busy at all, but as we left around 7:30pm, it was getting full inside. All in all - great location, awesome prices, and top-notch pizza. Can't wait to come back! read more

I was worried about finding a nontourist trap restaurant near the Vatican and was pleasantly surprised with this place. The absolute stand outs were the carbonara (best of my trip) and the divola spicy salami pizza (second best pizza of Italy trip). read more

Great pizza at a good price. Very filling pizza, they offer single pizzas that one can eat or larger ones for multiple people. It is downstairs in a building, that helps keep it cool inside. I would say everything was a 10/10 except the waiter, which didn't say a single word to our table even when we ordered. At the end of our meal, he gave us our bill and we were waiting to pay when we watched our waiter come from the back changed in different clothes, and leave. We waited for about 30 minutes until we had to call another waiter to take our payment. Although the other waiters in the establishment seemed to be very good and outgoing! read more

Its kind of hard to find down the street from the vatican. Had the pulpo for appetizer. It came thinly sliced with green leafs and carrots. Was nice and light. My friend ordered the pizza - talk about thin crust!!! Tried a piece and would recommend. I had the pasta. Was a great dining experience and would recommend if you can find it. read more

Of our time in Rome, this restaurant - I must say - had the best pizza I have ever had. ( The obligatory ... I grew up eating NY Style pizza. ) Where do I start with it? This was the classic Margherita pizza. Such a simple thing! Crust, sauce, cheese, basil. Simple, yet so often done oh so wrong. The flavors here were absolutelt divine. Fresh tomato, grown in Italy - olive oil, authentic, locally sourced. The right amount of cheese, not drowned like a US Imitation... crispy, satisfying, delicate blend of wonderful fresh flavors that - I wish I could have more odten than not! My one complaint? Pizza is ruined for me. I need to go back to Italy to have pizza. Nothing compares!! Even the pizza Napoli - we had it. La Soffitta was better in my opinion. What pizza should be - has been forever changed for me! Stop at La Soffitta and have your idea of the ideal pizza changed forever! read more
If you eat gluten free then Rome is probably your kryptonite. Pizza, pasta everywhere. However, this place has you covered! They really cater to GF eating. I ordered a pizza and the crust totally hit the spot. It's definitely a thin crust but it's also not crunchy or cracker-y. And it comes w/ a tiny Italian flag! Plus they have Zatec GF beer which is one of the best GF beers I've ever had. And I really miss a good, cold beer on a warm day. Our waiter was very friendly. It seemed like most of the staff spoke English as well, so I'd absolutely recommend this place if you're venturing around the Vatican City. And get the tiramisu. It tastes like delicious tiramisu!! read more

A nice little underground restaurant with excellent gluten free crust (and non-gf pasta, as evidenced by this charming photo of my friend devouring her pasta). After a long day of walking, we found it delicious and reasonably priced, as making a pizza or pasta dish gluten free is only 1€ extra. The only reason I cannot award 5 stars was our slow service, but definitely worth the trip if you're allergic to wheat as I am, or have some other gluten issues. read more

Fantastic gluten free pizza yesterday and very friendly service. I don't know how much they can separate for true intolérants but the whole menu including pizza and pasta is available as gluten free and they are really careful on the service and knowledgeable. Typical Italian cuisine and a whole (separated) glasshouse for cakes and desserts. read more

The general issue with Yelp in Rome is that Americans find everything fantastic compared to the California pizza kitchen. This place is 100% the biggest tourist trap ever. The food here is a shame for roman cuisine. Waaaaay past its glory days read more
