My family have been enjoying this apartment living! The Lark has a small community of residents and…read morestaff that's already a family to us. We love the monthly events, they hire a DJ and set up a karaoke machine, especially during Halloween and Christmas casino nights. Ruby, Maiyah, Misael, Fredo and Lourdes greet you first thing in the morning, very professional and friendly. The amenities are great too!! My kids enjoy the pool, the snacks at the front office, and the hot chocolate slash coffee machine is top tier. There's no place like The Lark in the peninsula area. We really feel at home.

The amenities are amazing! there is a resort like outdoor pool, hot tub, bbq area, pool table, yoga room, 2 rooftop outdoor gathering places, a toddler friendly playground and a nicely decorated community room. the parties are meticulously planned and executed by ruby and her staff. the wonderful parties have themes like boba night, pizza night, Halloween, casino night and movie night. the maintenance staff, especially misuel , is incredible. they regularly respond within 1-2 days but usually it is within hours depending on the request. No job is too big or small. the problem is resolved almost immediately. It is easy to schedule an appointment for maintenance to come and they wear blue booties over their shoes respectfully. I have never experienced this level of efficiency and competency as the staff.. We have always been treated with respect, kindness, and warmth. This is unusual for such a large complex. ruby, the property manager and the rest of the staff are amazing. I am always impressed by ruby's grace, incredible fashion sense, smiling face, and her ability to manage so much while making it look so easy. She works extremely hard to make the client experience wonderful and it really shows at this property. We found a true gem in san mateo!

Apt Location: 100 Duane Street, Redwood City, CA…read more At first, they seemed like a great group to rent from. Manager was pleasant. After living in their apartment for 8 months my impression is very different. Pets welcome, but dog pee area consists of a thin layer of rocks that was never cleaned in the time I lived there, except for the one time I sprayed them down. The repair/construction crew used to sit under my window and eat lunch, leaving their debris behind. They'd often drop screws, nails in the drive. I had to replace my tire. They borrowed my waterhose many times, and the last time took the nozzle off and put it on their hose to do concrete work. I had to go look for it, and the man was confrontational and unapologetic. The nozzle was corroded and filthy. Manager bought a new one and left it at my front door. I signed a 6 mo lease when I moved from the tiny studio into the 1-bedroom. At the time I had no complaints and didn't realize the situation there was going to deteriorate so quickly. I wasn't told that when I moved into the 1-br my water bill would go from $14/mo to $109. The rent was extremely high already but I wanted to stay in the area. I requested to be released from my lease because, as a travel nurse, I was potentially changing jobs and needed to move. Manager never acknowledged my email, nor texts I sent afterwards. I paid my rent for my last full month and then she used my security deposit for the remaining TWO WEEKS left on my lease. Still haven't received the $52 left from my security deposit. When I moved, I left the apt cleaner than when I moved in (I had to clean it when I moved in, compensated $100 towards rent.) Community laundromat works by quarters or an app that may or may not work when you need it to. Two washers, two dryers. No central air. I bought a 10,000 btu portable air conditioner that, running all day on the coolest setting could only cool the apt to 88 degrees. Impossible to reach the manager, and when she feels like responding to you she doesn't answer your question. The apts are emptying and I can see why. Cute buildings on the outside, dirty and unkept in every other way. Very unprofessionally run facility.

They are super friendly, helpful, and try their best with everything. Gary and the maintenance team are great too, although we have occasionally had maintenance requests lost and had to follow up after a few days. The location can't be beat either - I love how it's walking distance from the Caltrain and downtown. It is great being able to go out to dinner and also not worry about parking because of the garage. One star off because of the pool situation. We love the pool and how warmly it is heated, but it has been closed this entire season due to maintenance, and honestly doesn't look like it will be opening anytime soon. Frustrating since there hasn't been any decrease in the rent (in fact it increased from last year despite the pool and outdoor BBQ area being closed for months).

The proximity to downtown is unbeatable and we rely on the train for commutes to work. The drawbacks to living here are the age of the building and the high rental prices. We justify the price based on the location, but the building's age (despite the renovations, which are nice) makes the amount dubious. Further, the place is very noisy. Personally, we don't mind the noise and we were well-aware of the risks, but it can be pretty nonstop at all hours. There is a lot of construction in the area nearby that can begin as early as 7am. Overall, we love living here but it wouldn't be for everyone. If loud noises and/or the dated appearance of the building would be a bother, I would recommend looking farther out from downtown.
