I bought my system a few years ago from LA Solar and things have gone pretty well until the last several months with the communication of my solar edge monitoring system. LA Solar installed our system 5 years ago at a very competitive price. About 3 weeks ago they informed me that the inverter wasn't working, and they have ordered a replacement. The inverter was replaced last weekend. This was all done without me having to make a request and was covered under warranty. They have a wi-fi monitoring program for the system which alerted them to the issue. I have access to the program as well, but seldom looked at it. Had our panels installed in 2016. It's now Aug. 2020 (as you can see from screenshot of our lifetime production, we still have a few more months left in 2020) and our system has been up and running for a bit. We had LA Solar install 16 panels on 3 arrays, upgrade our electrical panel, and install an EV level 2 charger in the garage (required minor trenching underground to get into garage). To make a long story short, like some of the reviews here our system did see some degradation after we each year. Looking back at our yearly Edison bills, in 2017 we got a refund of $56.32. But in 2018 we owed nearly $400 and in 2019 we owed $173.66. We've had an electrical vehicle since 2016 but don't drive it too much. Also, we charge our EV car only after 9pm and conserve as much energy as possible (only run mini-split AC once in a blue moon). Communication was a real pain in the beginning and we wouldn't hear back from them each time for quite a while. Recently though communication has been better (as they probably noticed we wanted a resolution our shortage of production). All in all, we are happy w/ LA Solar and our system has been chugging along. We do suggest to add a few more panels to whatever they quote you. Having degradation is fine but needs to be addressed early on in the planning phase. read more

update to my earlier review. i have now had the system for a few years and am extreemly pleased with the enphases app and with the post install service i have received from la solar. greg in monitoring always returns my emails on a timely basis. a few moths ago, during the height of the heat wave, i had the system crash due to an enphase battery issue and la solar sent out a gentleman who worked remotely with enphase and was able to correct the issue the first time. i am told they have a new crew working there and i must admit, their service is now perfect! nice job! read more

They Showed Up Since the system was installed a few years ago I have never gotten service when the system was malfunctioning. At the moment power is off, we're running off battery and the panels are not charging. I have made 9 calls to them and finally spoke with Sofia who regretted they could not help me. They will come out at some future date. This has happened many times. They come in 3-14 days and say, "Everything checks out." They cannot diagnose a problem they can't see. I say, "If you had come out during the problem you would have had a better chance to diagnose the problem." They say, "Sorry, scheduling is not up to us." This has happened for years. They showed up today and fixed the problem. They showed up at about 2:00PM and think they found the source of the problem, fixed it and rebooted the system and it is currently producing power. I do not think I should have had to call 9 times and be laughed at by one of the staff members but after I spoke to Sofia she went out of her way, called me back and a team arrived for which I thank her personally. read more

I have been a customer for over six years. Each time I have interacted with LA solar employees in person, I have found them to be extremely professional and courteous. Recently I was told that my inverter was not working properly. It may have taken some time for them to fix the issue since they don't have an office in my town, but they came through and replaced my inverter. I also just went over my production capacity with a monitor agent from Fresno named Yuri H, who was outstanding. I highly recommend this company. read more

My experience with LA Solar has been exceptional from the beginning. My sales rep, Brian went above and beyond my expectations. He is very knowledgeable with the industry and took all the time I needed to understand and come to a decision. He was very friendly and made sure All my questions were answered. The process took about 2.5 months to complete, the longest was waiting on permits from the city. But they kept me informed via text and email. Disorganized, disrespectful, and dishonest. Avoid LA Solar like the plague. We had a leaky roof, so we decided to go for a full roof replacement and add solar at the same time. We came to LA Solar on the recommendation of a friend last August, and we were given a timetable of a few weeks to complete our project. Good news for getting this done before the rainy season. Months went by. We rarely got updates on our project, and when we did, they contained errors or nonsense. We constantly had to correct their paperwork regarding basic stuff--the size of our roof, the number of solar units being installed, and so on. Whenever we asked about getting a roof permit so workers could finally start, we got no response at all. We were told one day this spring that the roofers would be arriving on Monday to commence work. Monday came and went and no one showed up. We asked for but did not receive an explanation, nor an apology. After many more weeks of radio silence, we were told, congratulations, the application for our permits was being filed. The disorganization was bad enough, but last month, after more radio silence, we asked LA Solar for an update regarding our permits. They said they were waiting for a response from the city. So we contacted the city, and they said they had never heard from LA Solar. Frustrated, we went back to them and found out our customer service representative was quitting LA Solar because of their terrible customer service habits. This was what finally convinced us to cut our losses. After wasting a year of our life, we received no work on our roof, and are out $2000 of our deposit. Shame on LA Solar. read more

I am writing this review before my project is completed as my experience with LA Solar Group has been great. I had anxiety because of some of the recent reviews but wanted to share my positive experience thus far. I will finalize once the solar project is completed & Tesla Powerwalls (batteries) are installed. My experience w/ LA Solar Group has been 5-star so far. My sales rep was Zaven who was very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I compared Zaven's pricing with 2 others and it was the best price without compromising on quality. I'd recommend Zaven to anyone in my network. Once converted, he still remained active and served as an available resource. Then I started working with Nelli (project manager) to get ready for install. She was also helpful. The scheduling team needs work. It takes some patience and I'm sure LA Solar Group will work to enhance this team. Now we are onto Day 3 of install. The crew has worked very hard, take pride in quality work and worked late into the evening with a smile. LA Solar Group is lucky to have Hector, Ricardo, Ulysses, Juan, Andres on the team! Hector is the foreman and I felt very comfortable with him leading the team. It's always both funny and sad to me how responsive and attentive MIA companies can be once you your voice dissatisfaction publicly online. To the credit of the manager in charge of my case, James MacDonald, however, at this point the panels have all been installed (though it did still take months even after they had their alleged best people on the case), there's just a bit of electrical work to be finished as well as the pending installation of my Tesla Powerwalls (supply chain issues amirite?). They were also able to restructure my payment plan according to my preferences which was something else regarding which I'd been left in the lurch but, thankfully, no longer. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Though we had our solar panels turned on in March 2021 (started this project back in the Fall of 2020), I am finally able to write my series of reviews now as we finally received our first DWP bill (actually two bills, but one of the solar invertors failed already and had to be replaced, driving the bill up again!). Yes, thankfully the number of panels they installed covered the electric portion of our bill, but I would NOT choose LA Solar if I had it to do over again. Yes, I DID MY RESEARCH before choosing them, and found VERY FEW NEGATIVE REVIEWS before choosing them, but have now found out why! When things go wrong, they WILL NOT REMEDY THEIR MISTAKES WITH YOU UNLESS YOU TAKE DOWN ANY NEGATIVE WARNING REVIEWS!! To be clear, I'm used to giving 5-star reviews. MY PURPOSE in these postings, therefore, is SIMPLY TO WARN. As there were quite a few areas of warning, I will need to split this into a few sections. Also, I want to make clear that there were a FEW "good eggs" at LA Solar, and I don't want to "throw them under the bus" with the rest...Emily, Greg, and Alex (head installer)...I do appreciate you guys and the fact that you did your best to be responsive when I wrote you or tried to get you to understand my predicament thru all of this. But, I do need to follow-thru and file these reviews to warn people. Ok...so Yelp is not allowing me to break this up into smaller, separate complaints, so this is going to be one, LONG complaint with many subtitles, and I had to leave out a lot of stuff. Here we go! WOULD TALKING TO THE CEO FINALLY GIVE ME CUSTOMER SATISFACTION I WAS SEEKING? I had heard and read good things about Ara, the CEO. So, I thought I would give it a try. I had already talked to a couple of supervisors, and had not gotten anywhere, or they had gone on vacation, etc, after having promised to "resolve the issue". But, nope! Remember that by now, I am out to the tune of about an extra $6500 when you add up the roof repair that they didn't bother to inspect ahead of time and include in their estimate (that they had lied about, tried to pressure their installers to roof over, and I that I eventually had to foot the entire bill for!), the extra $1200 from the additional electric bill I had to pay from their roofing delay, and other incidental costs from other oversights (I actually haven't included everything!). A couple of statements from this CEO especially disturbed me. "I should not have to be dealing with this as a CEO" was one of them. Who, then, is going to deal with it at this point, I would ask? "I am trying to compensate you when other companies would not even try to help you" was another. Really?? I'm thinking of an old adage that goes something like "Failure to plan on your part SHOULD NOT result in an emergency on my part!" I had already explained to him that I had to take from my kids' college funds in order to pay for the roofing costs that his inspector's failure had caused! But now he's acting like I am bothering him to ask his company to reimburse me for this??? In addition, when I now mention that his salesman Ryan had neglected to actually invoice me for the $6500 down-payment in the beginning of the project, and suggested we could just write up an agreement to 'call it even' with that, he had the audacity to say I WAS IN BREECH OF CONTRACT(!!) " for not paying this amount I was never invoiced!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! I had him immediately invoice me and paid it the same day!! He finally did write up an offer for about a third of what I was out, but HE ASKED ME TO LIE saying that the payment was retroactive in time (back to the fall of 2020!), and also insisted that I would take down any negative reviews (like the one that I had to write in January that finally got them to come out to raise the LIVE electrical wires to prevent that were threatening to ELECTROCUTE my gardener and my kids!!). On top of that, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY I WAS COMPLETELY SATISFIED!!. NOT!!! I wasn't raised to be a liar, so I refused!! No wonder there were NO NEGATIVE REVIEWS when I was shopping for a contractor and I WAS DECEIVED into going with this company for my solar job!! When I pointed out his deception to Ara, he actually said I WAS INSULTING HIM!! After I responded to his email, saying we were done communicating at that point, he actually wrote back still wanting me to sign the contract. It's been just over a year since we went live with our solar, powerwall, and high amp EV charging circuit. We're pleased to say that we have exceeded our initial generation expectations (not just because we installed too much capacity) which is nice due to an expected decline as the system ages over the years. The system reliability has been great as well since they used good major components. My husband has been up in the attic each time there was a rain storm and there have been no observable leaks either. We are happy with the way the system was installed after a year. This is why we've added a star. Their inter-department communication and after-sales support were touchy, but once we got to the right people, things eventually smoothed out. Their upper management does care about their reputation and want to do what it takes to please an admittedly demanding client like ourselves. We echo some of the same comments regarding issues in other reviews. They do have a fairly aggressive outreach for their reputation management (the calls get irritating) but it reflects on their desire to remain at the top and can actually deliver on their promises in most cases. So in the end, we are satisfied and hope LA Solar continues to be a leader in Southern California solar. read more

I had ordered in installation of solar panels, a home battery, and a home charger in April of 2020. The final task was completed today. The crews who actually did the work were excellent. The project management seemed inept, though. The same crew would be scheduled to go do the same job multiple times. Management did not seem to know the status of the project despite my efforts to explain. I was told to prepare the space for one configuration only to learn when the crew arrived that the configuration was incorrect. It was most frustrating. I realize the pandemic interfered with many aspects of a job like mine, so I am understand in that regard. read more

We are satisfied with the solar panels that LA Solar installed and they have been working well for over a year. We haven't paid LADWP for power since they were installed which is terrific. But I can't recommend LA Solar because the poor communication skills by the onsite crew (many didn't speak English) and lack of professionalism by the office crew really disappointed us and caused a lot of frustration. We installed a Solar panel system (13KW) on our home through LA Solar Group. Our home is not an out of the box consideration and we had it designed by an architect. As such, we are very particular about the quality of the work done on our home. In the case of our installation, some of the patching and paint matching on our stucco wall was not performed at the quality level we expected. While the process of communicating our concerns had its ups and downs and our concerns needed to be escalated, LA Solar took responsibility for the mistakes and work done by the subcontractor. While they offered to send a different contractor to repair and paint the wall on the outside of our home, we chose to go with a contractor my wife and I vetted. LA Solar reimbursed us for the cost of our contractor even though his cost for the scope of work was outside of their protocol and company guidelines. In the end, we have the system we wanted and were able to hire a contractor we felt would provide the attention to detail to our home. read more

Do not waste your time or money. We signed in October and are currently trying to cancel after over a dozen failed inspections we are now 8 months later. Our roof was destroyed.. over 100 tiles broken. Our yard left a mess. No follow up. No communication. Charging our account while providing no service. Blaming PGE while PGE was waiting for them to submit permits and photos for over 2 months. And still no PTO. To this day we have loose panels on our roof and no connection as they refuse to remove their equipment. Save yourself the legal fees and find another company. read more

Overall we're super happy with our 20 panels + 1 Tesla Powerwall from LA Solar Group, especially during a pandemic. LA Solar, Nune, Jeff, and the installers were totally awesome. Great communication, fair price, and seems like a great system at our duplex in Los Feliz. Two major issues: 1) We had an unpermitted patio, so if you have anything unpermitted on your property, get it permitted before installing solar. Obvious? Maybe. But I asked if the inspector who was coming might flag our patio and was told it shouldn't be a problem. It was a huge problem and the inspector lost his mind - it then took us 5 months to get the patio permitted. Of course it was totally our fault for having an unpermitted patio but wish LA Solar had of been a bit more realistic about setting expectations for what an inspector from LA building & safety would flag. What will they flag? Anything and everything. 2) LA Solar's phone numbers and emails seem to be powered by a CRM that is designed for an enormous company or something. I got a ton automatic system-generated emails form LA Solar and eventually had to start ignoring all the emails. Even just calling the phone, pre-pandemic, was a problem. Like every extension seemed to be for the wrong person, but luckily this one has an easy fix. Ignore the mountain of automatic emails, get a real phone number for your rep, and talk to your rep. Nune was great and there was also someone named Jeff who was incredible in the home stretch with LADWP. Very grateful to both of them for their quick and clear communication, and the installers seem to have done a great job although it's only been live for one day so will update after a year. read more

This is a MAJOR investment so I'll treat the review accordingly and try to cover my entire experience so far. I met with LA Solar Group, Solar City, and Crown Solar before deciding to go with LA Solar Group. My parents have panels installed by Solar City but I decided to do some shopping around just in case there were better prices out there and it turns out Solar City was the most expensive of the 3. Crown Solar was pretty competitive but doesn't seem to have a big reputation/many reviews. The last thing you want is to dump a bunch of money into a company and find out they went out of business and you can't get support on your hardware that was supposed to be covered by warranties. The guys from LA Solar group are smart and competitive. They asked to see quotes from the other providers and insisted they would beat their prices. I have a large tree in front of my house. While it does keep the house quite cool, shade is a known enemy of solar panels and they even offered to credit me for the tree removal in an effort to max out panel product. Financing is done through LA Credit Union. If you haven't done your homework, do study up on combo loans. It's tricky and probably sounds like a scam but relies on you getting a refund the following year. The actual install process was pretty smooth. I didn't have to babysit the installation and the mounting is clean. I have some reverse tilt panels on the rear of my house and they seem sturdy enough. I'm not actually offended by solar panels affecting the aesthetic of buildings, so there's not much to really note other than the panels are installed exactly as they were planned in the design app. Afterwards, it felt like I was a bit in the dark for system activation. The process doesn't end once the panels/inverter are up. You have to get permission to operate from your electric company (LADWP in my case). It took a few emails/phone calls back and forth between LA Solar Group and DWP to get things moving. As long as you are on top of the activation process, you'll get your system running in a reasonable time. Responses to status inquiries were always received in a reasonable amount of time and my sales rep never ignored any of my text messages. The monitoring app is somewhat limited if you are expecting live stats. Since the inverter is connected via a cellular connection, the readings only update in 4 hour intervals. 2/22/2018 - I met with a Raffi at the end of January 2018. He said he wanted to make sure my production was in line with what the contract required from LA Solar. I haven't heard back yet even though it's been weeks. I'll update my score back to 5 depending on the result of his followup. 2/28/2018 - The power production guarantee is annually NOT monthly. 6/7/2018 - After trimming the giant tree in front of our house, I'm happy to report I just got my first DWP bill where I overproduced and received a credit! Seriously, if you have a tree that's shading your panels, consider trimming it greatly to increase production. read more

Update: A representative named Greg reached out to me to hear and learn about the issues I was having. He was very understanding and very courteous. Once he heard everything he got straight to work and started to get things moving forward very quickly! Whenever an installation took place or if an inspector came Greg always called me at the end of the day to follow up with me and see if I was happy with the work that was done, if there was something that I had concerns about he would make sure things were taken care of with the best quality. I have to also mention Hamlet who is in charge of construction/installation. He personally made a house visit to assess the situation and let the installers know exactly what needed to be done. Even though this installation took WAY longer than expected once I started dealing with Greg and Hamlet my experience with the company became much better. I was able to stop worrying if/when things were going to get done because I was pretty confident that they would go out of their way to make sure things were on track! As of today I have fully functioning solar panels running great thanks to Greg and Hamlet! read more

Canceled my LA Solar contract with them and at the time I was doing a ground mount. I came home from work with no one home and discovered they had just randomly showed up and started digging holes. I had canceled this over 3 months ago. Special type of dumb people work here at this company. UPDATE Obviously calling this company is a waste of time, I don't think anyone even works at these offices I called all of them even the out of state ones and it just rings and rings. Also emailed LA Solar and got a response this morning from a girl that said she CC Michael in to help and still no response. I called Peter who left the note drawn in crayon on a random piece of paper on my door no answer. Get a call from my kids Edison came over and turned the power off for the day because LA Solar requested. Imagine going to work one day and you come home and have holes and poles all over your yard, keep in mind if I kept my agreement with LA Solar this ground mount was no where near the design I signed off on, and to top it off I have no power now the next day while my kids are at home. read more

LA Solar got in touch with me. Their contact, Tigran, was very professional and listened courteously to my concerns in my previous review. For a more than fair price, he sent over Adrian, a pro installer, to install a single panel for me and my solar system was up and running on the same day of installation. This was exactly the process which was originally described to me by their original salesperson 3 years ago. I am glad that they held to their word. Notes on Adrian: he was a courteous, groomed and bright eyed installer who reminded me of Levi, my first installer. Very professional. He took pictures of each step, which he sent to me, and explained exactly what he did to me. He even invited me to climb up on the roof using a very sturdy ladder setup to oversee some details of the layout. He also, at no cost to me, took out a satellite dish I had up there that was blocking approximately 1 percent of my solar production. He also gave me advice on maintenance if I ever need it and offered his personal assistance if I need something done. I was very impressed by his desire to keep the customer happy and secured. I suggest asking for Adrian if you decide to install. He will work with you. I would trust him for any major solar install job. Again this January, I have a leak in the same spot plus one more! I worked with a very good, very patient sales rep who spent a lot of time helping us navigate our complicated HOA issues. He was responsive and quick to assist, and I would recommend him (and did!) to anyone and everyone. He gets 10 stars PRE-sale... However, since the sale was completed, it has been a completely different story. Sadly this seems to be a case of "good sales, bad service" which is very alarming since we're too far in now to go with another company. I REALLY wish I would've known it would be this way ahead of time (hence the review warning others). The sales rep is off the map, doesn't respond, doesn't return calls. Communication is awful. People show up with no warning, no knock at the door, calls are scheduled then no one calls. We are literally STILL waiting on batteries ordered months ago, we are STILL waiting on an email so we can set up our wifi to monitor the system. Panels have been installed for a few weeks... are they working? No clue! No one will communicate with us to tell us what's going on. So fair warning to others. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Let me share my saga. I came to LA Solar as a referral from a solar group that LA Solar acquired. Evidently they didn't bring any of the successful DNA from Barnes Solar over... Brian my sales rep was and continues to me wonderful. We priced out and financed the right solar solution for me. He took the time to hear what I needed and covered all the details. After a week or two of back and forth to get things right, I signed documents in September 2022. Brian had already shared with me that inventories were backed up, so I wasn't expecting a quick turn around on installation. The install crew came out in early December to put everything on the roof. When they were finished there were four solar panels still on the ground. I counted the ones on the roof, and the right number were installed. What I came to understand is that they installed the WRONG panels. Instead of the 450w panels I had ordered, they had installed 390w panels instead. The inventory guys evidently caught the error and added four panels to make up the wattage difference - but never bothered to tell me. After much back and forth, we agreed to keep the 390w panels and have new drawings created in mid-December. Then the work stopped. After THREE failed inspections, they finally put the additional four panels on the roof (in the wrong location), and still have yet to pass an inspection. I can't get anyone from the production team to call me back, or take this serious. Due to my financing, they already have 80% of the money. The bank has sent me the first bill, and I still don't have live solar on my house (March 2023). I've complained, written to the Contractors Licensing Board, and pestered - but they just don't care. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They don't take their work seriously, can't communicate internally or externally, and won't finish your job in any sort of timely way without constant micromanagement on your part.
